The Bravery @ Amoy Street - Muslim-owned Cafe Reopens at New Location with Refreshed Brunch Menu

TheBravery2

The Bravery has moved from Lavender Street, where it has stood for seven years to, a two-storey conservation shophouse along the trendy Amoy Street neighbourhood. The second storey also houses The Bravery’s in-house bakery, which churns out fresh bread and baked goods daily. With a full-service team led by Sous Chef Melvin Lam and award-winning Head Barista Maryvn Tan, customers can expect an elevated menu comprising new dishes, crowd-pleasing signatures, freshly-baked treats and quality brews.

TheBravery4
Nova Cheese Toast 4/5

From the brunch menu, we had the Nova Cheese Toast ($16), where lemon and dill cream cheese is spread on house-baked sourdough bread and topped generously with smoked salmon, ikura, and microgreens. The side of silky smooth scrambled eggs was a welcoming addition to this classic brunch dish.

TheBravery6
Steak & Eggs 4.2/5

The crowd-favourite Steak & Eggs ($23) was no less impressive as well, with tender grass-fed striploin served with a side of house-baked sourdough toast and sunny side eggs.

TheBravery9
Cod en Papillote 3.5/5

The Cod en Papillote ($33) features cod fillet is baked in a paper bag with fennel, seasonal greens, herbs, microgreens, and soy broth to keep the fish tender and moist. It is served with a bowl of furikake-topped rice to complement the fish.

TheBravery17
Seafood Alfredo 3.8/5

A dish with an umami punch is the Seafood Alfredo ($20). The creamy al dente spaghetti is complete with Tiger prawn, white clams, crab meat, ikura, and a crustacean oil made in-house by infusing roasted shellfish into olive oil.

TheBravery10
Hojicha Milk 4/5, Dirty Matcha 4/5

The Bravery serves up signatures like the ever-popular Lavender Latte ($6.50) along with new offerings such as Hojicha Milk ($6.50) and Dirty Matcha ($7). Using beans from Allpress Espresso in Melbourne, which boasts of rich, chocolate notes with a full-bodied flavour, each cup of joe makes for the ideal morning or midday pick-me-up.

TheBravery12
Gateau au Chocolat 4/5

We round off our meal on a sweet note with their variety of desserts. Available all day, the bakery churns out a wide range of bread, cakes and pastries, such as the crowd-pleasing Gateau au Chocolat ($6.90 per slice) filled with rich chocolatey decadence.

TheBravery16
Lemon Meringue Pie 4/5

The Lemon Meringue Pie is enjoyable as well, with a lightly torched meringue atop, soft, tangy curd and crumbly base.

So France @ Duo Galleria - Experience The Taste of True Bistro Of Living

SoFrance23

So France at Duo Galleria unveils a new look, introducing all-new menus, crafted to deliver an authentic contemporary French bistro experience. Classic, yet vibrant and modern, from the existing space that houses both a bistro and an epicurean grocer, So France now extends with a new alfresco terrasse for nights of drinks, tapas and sharing platters.

SoFrance6
Salade Landaise 4.5/5

The new menu at So France embodies their philosophy of "innovative tradition", fusing classic French flavours into the current palate. And what caught my attention was the section on the menu that is devoted to duck. Starting with a salad that is native to the coastal Landes region of France, the Salade Landaise ($24) was hearty with cured duck gizzards (confit in duck fat and roasted to order) and cured duck breast. With crispy croutons tossed in, this salad was all about luscious mouthfill, meaty texture and crunch. The magic touch to this salad was the shaved foie gras terrine, that buttered every mouthful, but just very lightly, as they melt in my mouth. The ingredients sounded rather rich, but nothing was assertive, especially when the greens were simply dressed with Balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

SoFrance21
Duck Rillette 4.5/5

Also available in their Tapas menu, Duck Rillettes ($15) is a must-order if you are in a group, especially when you are in the mood for a long night. What a pleasure to see and enjoy the rillettes with an entire bottle of cornichons! The duck leg meat is marinated with orange skin, star anise and thyme for 4 hours, rinsed and sous vide for 18 hours, then rested for about 26 hours. Shredded and not pulverised, a right amount of cold duck fat binds the shredded meats together, creating a luxurious spread for the accompanying croutons. The seasoning is on the lighter side, so one could really appreciate the very clean flavours of the duck and its fats.

SoFrance22
Duck Confit 4.2/5

SoFrance31
Mash Potatoes 4.5/5

You may have come across many versions ever since you get acquainted with French cuisine, but do try their highly raved Duck Confit ($34). Glistening, evenly roasted with smooth-running edges, the duck skin was crisp, and the meat was tender with a good ratio of fats. I could do with a bit more sauce, which helped to bring out the flavours of the duck confit. Although roasted Grenaille potatoes are served alongside, what really completes the dish is their Puree / Mash Potatoes ($8). A full-on, creamy confection of butter, cream and potatoes, this mash potatoes of theirs will have you coming back for more.

SoFrance9
Oeufs Meurette 4.5/5

Oeufs Meurette ($22) is your eggs and bacon dish but done in a traditional Burgundian way. What gives this unassuming dish its characters is the complex homemade red wine sauce made with beef and chicken stocks, veal jus, shallots, vinegar, red wine and butter. It flavoured the subtlety of the poached eggs while the more assertive flavours of the meaty, thick-cut bacon mellowed out its sweetness and acidity.

SoFrance15
Sea Bass Filet 4/5

For lighter fare, on the menu, they have Filet de Bar / Sea Bass Filet ($28). I loved how crispy the skin was, juxtaposed with creamy broccoli puree and broccolini mash.

SoFrance29
So France Beef Burger 3.5/5

Catering to our undying love for burgers, there is So France Beef Burger ($24), with a patty made with a combination of brisket and chuck, layered with sundried tomatoes, raclette cheese, rocket and caramelised onion. Served medium rare, I reckon the patty needs more fats to up its beefy flavour. But overall, it was still quite a pleasure to bite into the fat burger, especially when the custom made sourdough bun was so light and chewy. You will appreciate the fries too, which is made with potatoes from France.

SoFrance39
Creme Brulee 3.8/5

For desserts, the Creme Brulee ($12) was simple but comforting with it's warm, vanilla aroma and mellow sweetness.

SoFrance36
Floating Island 3.8/5

The first time I tried a Floating Island was in Hungary at a sidewalk bistro, that was served in a cup. The Floating Island ($12) here is a much more elaborated version, and I do suggest you try this classic dessert, which is rather rare in Singapore.

Tablescape Restaurant & Bar @ Grand Park City Hall - Old School Charm With Bread And Dessert Trolleys

Tablescape11

Stepping into Tablescape Restaurant & Bar at Grand Park City Hall gives you an old-world charm with gueridon service. Having visited the restaurant when it first opened. I was looking forward to the new changes new Executive Chef Armando Aristarco has brought to the restaurant.

Tablescape1

It is great to see that the bread trolley is still around. With 4 types of freshly baked in-house bread in rotation daily (out of the 14), this is paired with a choice of salted or unsalted butter that is churned in-house. This is followed by an amuse bouche whereby the Sicilian prawn is paired with burrata, zucchini and squid ink croutons.

Tablescape3
Scallop 4/5

The Scallop ($20) is a light starter in which the raw scallop is served with a refreshing cucumber gazpacho. A dish that allows the natural freshness to speak for itself without any strong seasoning to distort the taste.

Tablescape4
Beef Tataki 4/5

Next is the Black Angus Beef Tataki ($20). The beautiful beef slices are paired with pumpkin puree at the side and white pepper foam on top. It is another light-handed dish, allowing the main ingredient to shine.

Tablescape5
Egg 4/5

The Egg ($28) is a luxe version of our local breakfast. The slow-cooked 62 degree Celsius egg is covered with Parmesan fondue. It is then topped with two textures of asparagus and black summer truffle. I would recommend saving some of the earlier bread to mop up the dish.

Tablescape7
Duck Risotto 3.8/5

Moving to the mains, we started with the Duck Risotto ($38). Using camaroli rice, the rice is slow-cooked with duck stock until the starch is released from the rice, giving it a creamy consistency. This is finished with olive oil, parmigiano reggiano and parsley. Not to forget the tender smoked duck and cubes of pan-seared foie gras that adds colour to the dish.

Tablescape11
Iberico Pork Chop 4/5

One of my favourite for the night is the Iberico Pork Chop ($42) which has been marinated with salt, sage, thyme and black pepper. The piece of pork chop is then grilled to perfection upon order. It was tender, flavourful with an exterior char. The beautiful piece of pork chop is served with pommery mustard sauce, sauteed vegetables and roasted potatoes.

Tablescape9
Organic Chicken 4.2/5

The Organic Chicken ($28) comes all the way from France. It is sous-vide and then roasted until crispy on the exterior, moist and juicy inside. Not to forget the baby romaine lettuce with housemade cardini dressing, topped with baked bacon bits and Parmigiano Reggiano shavings.

Tablescape12
Coconut Raspberry Mousse 3.5/5

Tablescape13
Champagne Jelly 3.8/5

From the dessert trolley, we have the Coconut Raspberry Mousse and Champagne Jelly. The Coconut Raspberry Mousse comprises of a layer of raspberry gel, coconut mousse, and almond crumble. Each spoonful comes with a multi-textural enjoyment. As for the Champagne Jelly, it is a light and refreshing dessert, with the candied orange peel giving it a citrusy lift.

Tablescape14
Chocolate Souffle 4.2/5

A classic dessert is the Souffle ($16), It is light and fluffy. It comes with the choice of Grand Marnier or Valrhona Chocolate and Creme Anglaise.

Tablescape15

Executive Chef Armando Aristarco has put together a fine European menu rooted in classical cuisine made excitingly contemporary. The bread and dessert trolleys give the restaurant an old school charm too.

WAKANUI Grill Dining @ Marina One - Mutunga Wiki Sunday Brunch

Wakanui24

WAKANUI Grill Dining Singapore at Marina One is a New Zealand steak and lamb restaurant, featuring Ocean Beef and WAKANUI Spring Lamb from the Canterbury region in the South Island of New Zealand. When WAKANUI started in Tokyo in 2011, it successfully became one of the leading steak and lamb dining experiences in Tokyo in a short period of time. Experience this fusion of flavours of New Zealand meat and Japanese cuisine at an unhurried pace with its newly launched Mutunga Wiki Brunch & Bubbly.

Wakanui25
Kagoshima A5 Wagyu Fillet 100g

Mutunga Wiki is "weekend" in Maori and this leisure brunch is available only on Sunday 11am to 3pm. There will be a buffet spread of cold seafood selection, appetiser, dessert and cheese with any main course order. From $89 onwards, the main course menu features its signatures such as the Wakanui Spring Lamb Half Rack, which is highly raved about, Ocean Beef Ribeye 350gm ($118) to highly prized Kagoshima A5 Wagyu Fillet 100g ($118). My choice of main was Kagoshima A5 Wagyu Fillet. Aptly cut into cubes, each cube was evenly seared, breaking down the fats and releasing the flavours. The rest of the mains were definitely a lot more sizeable, but the full-bodied flavour and texture of this Wagyu were deeply satisfying.

Wakanui20

Besides, there is no lack of food from the buffet spread. It was a simple lineup of brunch items, but each dish was done extremely well. I adored the creamy eggs, crispy slices of bacon, and everything you need to create a hearty bistro brunch is right there.

Wakanui9
Scallop and Salmon Sashimi

Wakanui6
Clams, Oysters, Prawns

These cold seafood selections will be good accompaniments to your wines and champagne, free flow at $39. The sweet and plump scallop sashimi was superb.

Wakanui3
Cheese Platter

Do not miss out the Kapiti Smoked Havarti from the Cheese Platter! This creamy havarti cheese will whet your appetite with its buttery flavours, imbued with a smoky taste.

Wakanui18
Beef & Potato Casserole

Since Wakanui specialises in high quality beef and lamb, you can imagine how yummy this Beef & Potato Casserole is.

Wakanui1
Bread Pudding

For dessert, the rich Bread Pudding was decadent with a creamy base reminiscent of rum-and-raisin flavour and a golden crust. I love the flaky crust atop; it felt like I was having a croissant dessert. That summed up my Sunday brunch with a blissful sweet note.

MEMO @ Studio M Hotel Singapore - A Cozy Cafe Tucked Away From The Hippy Robertson Quay

MemoCafe3

Cafes within hotel premises have always sat with well me - the quiet ambience, decent food and excellent service. Not referring to those at the lobby that offers high-end afternoon tea, but a much less conspicuous setup such as the Tuxedo Cafes located within the Carlton Hotels, which remain one of my favourites. And I think I have found another one! MEMO at Studio M Hotel Singapore, which has recently revamped from a self-service deli to a full-service all-day dining cafe to includes your all-time favourite brunch items, pasta and mains, alongside sandwiches and salads.

MemoCafe20
Lemongrass & Turmeric Wings 3.5/5

Apt for any occasion is this what I would describe as a refined Ayam Goreng style Lemongrass & Turmeric Wings ($8). Thin crust and crispy skin, if you are here for their beers instead or coffee, then go for it.

MemoCafe7
Chum Chum 2.8/5

I tried one of their brunch items Chum Chum ($18), which to me seems like a dish created more for a hangover cure. Imagine you have streaky bacon on top of beef rendang, plus fried egg and chicken flavoured rice. For regular days, this is a tad too greasy for my liking.

MemoCafe18
Prawn Penne 3.8/5

Pasta renditions of our local prawn mee aplenty but I reckon MEMO's Prawn Penne ($18) is definitely one of the more memorable ones. The prawn bisque that lays the foundation of the dish is superb. Chockful of flavours, yet its consistency was unexpectedly light, flavouring the pasta without weighing them down. And the prawns, each individual slice was firm and succulent.

MemoCafe13
Seafood Casserole 3.8/5

The crustacean flavours are even more intense in Seafood Casserole ($22), centring a beautiful slice of barramundi, accompanied by prawns and potatoes. The nicely toasted sourdough is there for you to sop up the delectable saffron tomato sauce. It was a pity that the potatoes, carrots and celery were not being cooked down in the same sauce, which would have otherwise rendered much of its flavours into them.

MemoCafe2
Hern & Lemon Baby Chicken 3/5

While the Grilled Herb & Lemon Baby Chicken ($18) was pleasingly tender and well marinated with aromatics and spices, the smoky chipotle sauce didn't seem to gel well with the meat. I think even without any sauce, the baby chicken stands out on its own.

MemoCafe5

What's cute is that you could even choose a limited time only Star War print on your latte! A range of other beverages is available as well, such as Better Latte Than Never, which is flavoured ice lattes with interesting options such as gingerbread and chocolate cookie, as well as wines and beers.

MemoCafe25

In the heart of Robertson Quay, I love how MEMO is being tucked away from all the hippy spots, and it is just me, my companion and my food.

Les Bouchons Rive Gauche @ Robertson Quay - Sunday Brunch Along The Singapore River

BouchonsRiviera13

Located at Robertson Quay, the laid back ambience is what Bouchons Riviera Brunch is all about. Inspired by the decadence of the French Riviera and staying true to its French heritage, Head Chef Mickael Cornac of Les Bouchons designed the a la carte menu with 30 new all-time brunch favourites including the classic French dish.

BouchonsRiviera1
Riviera Wellness Bowl 3/5

Riviera Wellness Bowl ($18) has a couple of exciting elements such as the strawberries which have been soaked overnight with balsamic vinegar to soften and infused it with an additional layer of flavour. The same goes to the Goji berries which were soaked in passionfruit tea beforehand. Given all the exciting dishes on the menu, this serves more like a sharing appetiser to start off your brunch.

BouchonsRiviera5
Eggs Mimosa 3/5

Have a taste of some of the French classics such as the Eggs Mimosa ($14) with sauteed garlic asparagus but what really got me into the mood is the Escargots De Bourgogne ($16) with garlic butter.

BouchonsRiviera7
Escargots De Bourgogne 4/5

I have a little aversion to escargots, to be honest, but being cooked down to such tenderness helps to diversify the attention away. The hero of this dish, I would say is the garlic butter, and the escargots are there to give the dish some textures, while you deliver the rich and flavourful sauce into your mouth. If you love pesto sauce, this will hit all the right spots.

BouchonsRiviera10
Gueule de Bois 3/5

I learned that the concept of Sunday brunch dates as far back as 120 years ago. It came about as a means to overcome a British author’s own hangover from the night before, which is the reference behind this Gueule de Bois ($24) or more commonly referred to as the Bouchons Hangover Cure. You get to try the most hyped about “Impossible” meatballs, served along with scrambled eggs with truffle oil on a slice of toasted sourdough bread. The meatballs are infused with other aromatics and spices; hence it tasted almost like lamb meatballs but without the gaminess. Still, it lacks the natural sweetness from real meat. I'm still not convinced after trying it, but I love how wholesome this dish has been played out, with all other elements such as the sautéed porcini mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes and asparagus so nicely done to draw out their freshness and flavours.

BouchonsRiviera17
Sunday Roast 3.8/5

Bouchons Sunday Roast ($32) may vary each week and our ‘Roast of the Day’ was chicken with mushroom sauce and roasted baby potatoes. Nothing much to fault about the chicken really, what I want to highlight is the decadent mushroom sauce. It was so rich and shroomy, if you were to lighten it with cream and stock, it would have been one of the most comforting mushroom soups ever.

BouchonsRiviera19
Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak 4/5

Les Bouchons is amongst one of the first restaurants in Singapore to serve French Steak Frites “Steak and Fries” and if you are here with just one or 2 friends, Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak ($39.80) would be enough to last through your whole Sunday conversation, coupled with a few glasses of wines. The steak was packed with good fats and flavours, and they thoroughly nailed it with the free flow homemade French fries that came with unevenly crisped edges, with dented soft pockets to give you the potatoey flavour. I don't remember having such good fries for the longest time.

BouchonsRiviera24
Crepes 2.5/5

For desserts, the Crepes ($8) with Nutella and banana was a little underwhelming, with the crepe being a little stiff.

BouchonsRiviera21
Chocolate Brownie 3/5

Chocolate Brownie "Fait Maison" ($10) with vanilla gelato is definitely more apt for the occasion with the warm, dark and moist chocolate brownie. Much bigger scope of ice cream is needed for sure.

Brunch at Les Bouchons, overlooking the Singapore River on a Sunday noon is the kind of hours that you would wish to spend just to have a quick escape from everything else. ‘Bouchons Riviera Brunch’ menu is available on Sundays between 1130am and 330pm.
