Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen @ Changi City Point - Discover Refreshed Taste of Authentic Vietnamese Flavours at The Renovated Space

PaperRice12

Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen has unveiled its newly renovated space at Changi City Point, alongside a refreshed menu that dives deeper into the rich culinary traditions of Vietnam. Helmed by a native Vietnamese chef, the restaurant promises an immersive journey through more than 15 cities in Vietnam, offering dishes that are both authentic and beautifully executed. From hearty bowls of pho to light, vibrant salads, the new menu balances the comfort of street food with refined presentation.

Beef with Banana Blossom and Starfruit Salad 3.5/5

The Beef with Banana Blossom and Starfruit Salad ($11.90) kicks off the meal with a medley of vibrant colours and textures. Julienned banana blossoms are tossed with grilled beef rump slices, pickled radish, onions, mint leaves, and fresh starfruit, all bound together with a bright fish sauce dressing and finished with crushed peanuts. It’s a symphony of flavours comprising sweet, sour, tangy, and umami that play harmoniously on the palate. Light yet deeply flavourful, it’s a perfect appetiser to whet the appetite.

Hue Minced Pork Lemongrass Skewers 4/5

Inspired by the central Vietnamese city of Hue, the Minced Pork Lemongrass Skewers ($11.90) are fragrant and juicy. The pork, subtly laced with lemongrass, is grilled and served with rice vermicelli, purple lettuce, and a side of Vietnamese peanut sauce. While the bitterness of the purple lettuce may not appeal to everyone, wrapping the pork with the noodles and sauce brings balance and richness to each bite. A playful, hands-on dish that encourages diners to customise their bites.

Vietnamese Crepe (Banh Xeo) 3.5/5

The Vietnamese Crepe ($16.90) is a crispy egg crepe folded over a generous filling of bean sprouts, yellow mung beans, onions, and spring onions. We had the seafood version, but you can also choose from grilled pork belly, chicken, or mushrooms. Served with fresh herbs and a tangy fish sauce for dipping, each bite brings crunch, freshness, and a gentle richness from the crepe itself. A classic Vietnamese street food favourite that’s executed with finesse.

Wagyu Waterfall Beef Pho 4/5

One of the most visually arresting dishes on the menu is the Wagyu Waterfall Beef Pho ($34.90). Premium Wagyu beef slices are served hanging dramatically over a steaming bowl of pho, before being fire-torched at the table by the staff. The thin slices are then dipped into the slow-cooked beef bone broth, where they finish cooking to perfection. Silky rice noodles, a robust yet clean broth, and tender beef make this bowl of pho as comforting as it is luxurious. Served with crisp vegetables on fried rice paper, it’s a feast for the eyes and palate.

Banana Sago in Coconut Creme 4/5

BTo end the meal on a high note, the Banana Sago in Coconut Crème ($5.90) is a creamy, comforting dessert. The base of rich coconut cream holds chewy tapioca pearls and slices of caramelised banana, topped with chopped nuts for added texture. Sweet, nutty, and lightly aromatic, it’s a fitting conclusion to a flavour-packed Vietnamese meal.

Table Manners @ Changi City Point

IMG_2030ed

If you are looking for value for money set lunch in the East, I would recommend Table Manners at Changi City Point. Located at The Oasis which is the alfresco area of Changi City Point, it is a great place to grab a bite or over a cup of coffee. The concept at Table Manners is rather simple, you either choose a set menu from 4 of the waiter's choice or customise your own. One basically choose from a combination of fibers and proteins with add-on options.

To complete our meal, we went for the add on at $5.80 that came with a drink, dessert and soup of the day. The good bowl of tomato soup was tangy and comforting. On the other hand, the dessert and ice lemon tea were average.

Cajun Chicken with Mashed Potato and Mushrooms 3.5/5

The customize Set B Lunch Set ($13.50) allows one to pick 2 fibers and 1 protein. For the fibers, I picked Mashed Potato and Mushrooms while the protein was Cajun Chicken. The mashed potato was smooth and creamy. The Cajun Chicken was also beautifully grilled, tender and moist.

Meat Lover 3/5

The Meat Lover ($17.00) is one of the 4 waiter's choice. It comes with NZ Angus Sirloin Steak, Pork Sausage and Buttered Mashed Potato. While I enjoyed the pork sausage, I thought the portion of the steak can be a bit bigger. I even heard the next table commenting about the size of the steak.

Overall one will get a decent meal at Table Manner with the value for money lunch set. Although the food was rather average and nothing really to shout about, patron at least has a choice of customising their own set menu with the ingredients they like.

Capri by Fraser Changi City Singapore

IMG_1998ed

Capri by Fraser Changi City Singapore is one the latest hotel properties launched in the Eastern end of Singapore. The hotel is conveniently located beside the Expo MRT station. Strategically it is near the vicinity of Singapore Expo, Changi Business Park and Changi Airport. A great accommodation choice for businessman and event organisers. Abundance of eateries can also be found at Changi City Point shopping centre next door.

I have booked the studio deluxe room which is about 36sqm for my staycation. Walking into the room, a warm and brightly lit room by the natural sunlight from the floor to ceiling full glass windows.

There is a pantry area which is a welcome for long stay. There is a coffee machine for the daily caffeine dosage. Cooking stoves and oven allow one to cook up a delicious meal. Fresh ingredients can be easily purchased from the NTUC and Cold Storage just beside the hotel.

The toilet does not come with a bath tub but I am not complaining. It is spacious and clean is the most important. Toilet amenities such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are readily available.

I love this working space and seating area with the floor to ceiling window. Comfort sofa to laze the door away watching tv, reading a book or magazine.

Although there is still construction outside the view of room, many may not know this is a perfect hotel for plane spotting. Depending on the time of the day, the is the sky way where you will see the planes descending towards Changi Airport runway.

The bedroom at Capri by Fraser Changi City Singapore is very comfortable too. Picking the bone, I don't like the tv which is mounted by the side of the wall. Although it can be tilted towards the bed it still not a direct view. Overall I love the interior and layout of the room. I would definitely recommend my business partners and colleagues to put up at the hotel. It also provide a free shuttle bus service to/fro the airport. Look out for the purple colour bus.

Texas Chicken @ Singapore Expo

Another new fried chicken fast food chain, Texas Chicken has opened  or relaunched in Singapore after KFC, Popeye and Arnold. I mentioned relaunched because I remembered there was Texas Chicken in the 1980's if my memories were correct. Nevertheless, thanks to Select Group, they have brought Texas Chicken to Singapore. Currently they have 2 outlets in Singapore Expo and United Square while the third is going to open in Changi Airport Terminal 1 transit soon.

Compare to the other fried chicken chains, the fried chicken at Texas Chicken was less oily. However I thought the chicken lacked the fragrance in their seasoning. The biscuit was nice. I preferred theirs to Popeye. Their biscuit was the hard type while Popeye's was soft inside. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes sides were norm while the mashed potatoes had a buttery taste.
