POCHA! Korean Street Dining @ Compass One - Launches 1-Metre Korean Street Food Platter

1 Metre K Platter

POCHA! Korean Street Dining has always been a go-to spot for those seeking authentic and flavourful Korean street food. This time, they've taken it up a notch with the launch of their 1-Metre Korean Street Food Platter - a feast of eight different items, designed to transport you to the bustling street markets of Korea.

Platter 1
Seafood Pancake and Krispy Chunks 3.5/5

Platter 3
Sindang Tteokbokki 3/5, Eomuk 3/5 and Kimari 3.5/5

Platter 4
Kimchi Mandu, Corn Dog and Rice Balls 2.8/5

The 1-Metre Korean Street Food Platter ($34.90) presents a mix of hits and misses. While the Kimari, Seafood Pancake, and Krispy Chunks stood out with their rich flavours and delightful textures, some items could have been more enjoyable if served hotter. Despite this, the platter remains an excellent option for sharing between 2 to 3 people, offering a satisfying variety of street food favourites.

Fried Chicken Ramyeon 1
Fried Chicken Stir Fry Spicy Shin Ramyeon 3/5

Cheese & Bacon Ramyeon 1
Cheese & Bacon Stir Fry Spicy Shin Ramyeon 4/5

The Fried Chicken Stir Fry Spicy Shin Ramyeon ($13.90) pairs a crispy chicken cutlet with stir-fried Shin Ramyeon, delivering a satisfying kick of spice. While the heat is spot on, the dish falls short in creativity, tasting more ordinary than expected.

The Cheese & Bacon Stir Fry Spicy Shin Ramyeon ($13.90) stands out with its rich, creamy texture, thanks to the addition of bacon, mushrooms, and cheese. Though the spice level is mild, the flavour profile is incredibly satisfying, making it our favourite.

Sindang-Dong Tteokbokki 1
Sindang-Dong Tteokbokki 4/5

With the added cheese topping, their signature Sindang-Dong Tteokbokki ($11.90) comes highly recommended. The sauce is packed with flavour, and the tteokbokki has just the right amount of chewiness, making it a comforting dish for any Korean street food lover.

Ganjang-Gejang 1
Ganjang-Gejang 3/5

We ventured to try the Ganjang-Gejang ($15.90 per piece, 2 for $26.90, 3 for $33.90), a raw marinated crab dish. The crabs are soaked in a homemade soy sauce, giving them a jelly-like, unique texture. While slightly salty, the dish offers an intriguing flavour experience.

The new dishes are available at all POCHA! outlets.

Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant @ Anchorvale Village - Opens A New Outlet in Sengkang with Exclusive Dishes

Group

Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant, a household name in Singapore, has opened a new outlet at Anchorvale Village, bringing its legendary dim sum closer to residents in the Sengkang area. Known for its consistently delicious offerings and bustling atmosphere, Swee Choon's new outlet introduces a slew of exclusive dishes on top of the usual classics.

Triple BBQ Meat 2
Triple Combination of BBQ Meat 4/5

One of the new outlet exclusives is the BBQ Meat selection. You can pair these with rice or noodles or enjoy them on their own. We had the Triple Combination of BBQ Meat ($23.90), featuring Honey Char Siew, Garlic Roasted Chicken, and Roasted Pork. The Honey Char Siew was nicely glazed and incredibly tender, earning high marks. The Garlic Roasted Chicken surprised us with its crispy skin and tender meat, and the fragrant chicken rice we paired with it was perfect. Although we wished for more crackling on the skin of the Roasted Pork, it was nicely seasoned and not too salty.

Siew Mai 2
Siew Mai 3.8/5

Salted Egg Custard Bun 2
Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bao 4/5

Baked BBQ Char Siew Bun 2
Baked BBQ Char Siew Bao 3/5

No visit to Swee Choon is complete without sampling their classic dim sum items. We started with the Siew Mai ($2.90/2pcs), which was juicy and meaty, packed with ingredients. The Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bao ($5.80/3pcs) featured soft, fluffy dough filled with a sweet and savoury salted egg custard that oozed like lava, making it a delightful treat. For those seeking a texture contrast, the Baked BBQ Char Siew Bao ($4.90/2pcs) offered a crusty exterior with a fluffy interior filled with chunky sweet BBQ char siew.

Mee Suah Kueh 3
Swee Choon Signature Mee Suah Kueh 3/5

A must-try is the Swee Choon Signature Mee Suah Kueh ($3.30/2pcs), which provides a delightful textural contrast with its crispy exterior and soft interior.

Sichuan Chili Oil Dumpling 2
'Sichuan Chilli Oil Dumpling 3/5

The Sichuan Chilli Oil Dumplings ($5.90) was drenched in fragrant Sichuan chilli oil. These plump and juicy dumplings, encased in soft, translucent skins, offered a spicy kick.

Tofu Bomb 2

Tofu Bomb 3
Tofu Bomb 4/5

An innovative take on traditional dim sum, the Tofu Bomb ($4/2pcs) featured a crispy exterior filled with flavourful ingredients and a slight spiciness from the mixed chopped chilli inside, making it a flavour bomb in itself.

Lychee Prawn Cheese Ball 2

Lychee Prawn Cheese Ball 3
Lychee Prawn Cheese Ball 3.5/5

Another creative dish is the Lychee Prawn Cheese Ball ($3.90/2pcs), shaped to resemble the lychee fruit with a delightful crispy coat. It’s filled with cheese for an elevated taste profile, though I wished the prawn flavour was more pronounced.

Sweet Potato Balls and Egg Tarts 2

Sweet Potato Salted Egg Custard Ball
Sweet Potato Salted Egg Custard Ball 4/5, Baked Hong Kong Egg Tart 3.5/5

We ended our meal with some sweet delights. The Sweet Potato Salted Egg Custard Ball ($3.90/2pcs) was a highlight with its oozing lava filling and mochi-like chewy texture. The Baked Hong Kong Egg Tart ($3.50) offered a sweet, creamy, and eggy custard encased in a buttery tart, making for a satisfying end to our meal.

Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant's new outlet at Anchorvale Village continues its tradition of delivering delicious dim sum while introducing exciting new dishes. It's a welcome addition to the Sengkang dining scene, sure to delight both long-time fans and new customers alike.

Yakiniku-GO @ The Seletar Mall - Mini BBQ Grill And Affordable Japanese Yakiniku Set Meals From $9.80

YakinikuGo22

Yakiniku-GO is the latest restaurant by RE&S Enterprise, with its first-ever Yakiniku concept marks its 76th outlet in Singapore. Diners can enjoy a vast repertoire of meats, from beef, lamb to chicken and seafood, with quality meat sets from $9.80. The electric grills produce no smoke as well, so there is no lingering BBQ odour even after your meal. Ordering at the restaurant is fuss-free and contactless as diners can scan the QR code on their mobile devices to make their orders.

YakinikuGo6
Yakiniku-GO Set 4.2/5

The Karubi Set starts at $9.80 for only the boneless beef short ribs (100g). For something fancier, go for their signature Yakiniku-GO Set ($20.80 for 220g), which features three popular beef cuts - Beef Short Plate, Beef Ribeye Steak and Beef Tongue, along with rice, soup, kimchi or salad. A favourite among yakiniku aficionados, the Karubi (Beef Short Plate) has a superb tenderness and juiciness. We also loved the Beef Tongue, which has a rich, deep flavour yet tastes surprisingly clean.

YakinikuGo10
Value Treat Set 3.8/5

The Value Treat Set ($19.80) comes with Beef Short Plate, Beef Flap meat and chicken, served alongside rice, soup, kimchi or salad.

YakinikuGo4
Double Karubi Set 4/5

The Double Karubi Set ($20.80 for 200g) comes with Beef Short Plate and Beef Boneless Short Rib, served alongside rice, soup, kimchi or salad.

YakinikuGo3
DIY Niku Sushi Set 4/5

For some DIY fun, you can make your own sushi with the DIY Niku Sushi Set ($6.80). First, grill the beef short rib meat and lay the grilled meat on the sushi rice. Then, wrap with seaweed and garnish with kimchi, spring onion and sesame seed.

YakinikuGo13
Wagyu Tokujou Karubi 4.2/5

Besides the value sets, we also had ala carte orders of other meats. The Wagyu Tokujou Karubi ($11.80 for 50g) is evenly marbled and said to have a marbling score of at least eight or nine out of twelve, which has a good balance of fattiness and lean meat for a melt-in-the-mouth texture upon grilling.

YakinikuGo15
Harami 4/5

The Harami ($6.90 for 50g) is one of the most popular items on the yakiniku menu. The outside skirt has a deep, umami flavour and a slightly chewy texture.

YakinikuGo16
Ribeye 4/5

The Ribeye ($2.90 for 50g) was also equally good, with a strip of fat that runs the middle that lends an incredible depth of flavour.

YakinikuGo24
Seafood Hoiru Yaki 4/5

Other than beef, they also have a seafood alternative. Baked in foil, the Seafood Hoiru Yaki ($12.80) consists of fresh scallops, prawns, and squid in a rich teriyaki and butter sauce. Non-beef options also include chicken, lamb leg and salmon.

36 M.S. Handmade Yun Tun Noodle @ Seletar Hills Estate - Plump & Juicy Dumpling That Is Not To Be Missed

36MSHandmadeYunTunNoodle2

Located n the corner coffeeshop of the rather quiet Seletar Hills Estate is this unassuming stall, 36 M.S. Handmade Yun Tun Noodle. The stall sells both the char siew wanton mee and dumpling noodle.

36MSHandmadeYunTunNoodle3
Dumplng Noodle 4.2/5

I was told that the char siew wanton mee here is decent but the star is actually the Dumpling Noodle. The springy noodle which has a good bite to it is tossed in a sweet and savoury dark sauce that made it so deliciously good.

36MSHandmadeYunTunNoodle4

The other highlight is the plump and juicy handmade stuffed with minced pork. You get a burst of flavours accentuated by the tee poh in the stuffing mixture. This is so much better than their wanton which is rather small in size. By the way, the portion here is rather small. Hence for the big eater, you may need to have 2 bowls.

Canadian Pizza Dine-In Cafe @ Jalan Kayu

IMG_6451

Canadian Pizza is know for its 2 for 1 pizza delivery at 6241 0241 but little may you know that Canadian Pizza actually has a Dine-In Cafe along the same stretch of road at Jalan Kayu. Opened back in December 2011, the Dine-In cafe offers an extensive menu besides pizzas.

IMG_6455

The Dine-In cafe has both a alfresco and air conditioned seating. It is a halal certified restaurant that offers an extensive menu, not just only pizza.

IMG_6457
Root Beer Float 4/5

Started the meal with a mug of classic Root Beer Float ($4.50). You can also ask for Pepsi or 7-Up if you do not like Root Beer. For cold beverages, Mocktails, juices and soft drinks are also available.

IMG_6460
Smoked Salmon Salad 3.8/5

The plating for the Smoked Salmon Salad ($8.80) may not look elegant but it was good. The used of fresh ingredients such as onion, lettuce, black olive, tomato and bread crumbs was packed with flavours, a healthy but yet flavourful salad to start with.

IMG_6468
Tomato and Mushroom Soup 4/5

The Tomato Soup ($4.50) and Mushroom Soup ($4.50) was surprising creamy, tasty and robust. Like my dining partner Melissa commented, the soups were much better than a popular family restaurant in Singapore which I can't agreed more.

IMG_6471
Grilled Cajun Fish 4.2/5

The Grilled Cajun Fish ($16.90) came with salad, fries and lime mayonnaise. The grilled fish was extremely flavourful and I won't mind going back for more. As I gathered my thoughts composing the post, I realized the grilled fish was sliced into strips. Visually I think people would expect a whole piece of fish fillet so they don't feel short changed.

IMG_6472
Baked Macaroni 3/5

The Baked Macaroni ($9.50) unfortunately was a let down. Though the macaroni was nicely cooked, they were kind of bland.

IMG_6475
Fresh Sage Sausage 4.2/5

The Freash Sausage ($13.80) came a bit on the salty side but if paired with the mashed potatoes and sauce, it actually had a good balanced of flavours. It was one of my favourite dish at Canadian Pizza Dine-In Cafe.

IMG_6487
Crazy Canadian Stacker 4/5

The Crazy Canadian Stacker ($14.90) came with double patties, grilled bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion rings, cheese and fries. The huge and juicy burger was packed with flavours and it was not going to be easy for one with a small appetite.

IMG_6492
Peri Peri Chicken 3.8/5

I was worry that the Peri Peri Chicken ($16) may be too hot for my taste buds but they were quite mild and easily for the palate. The chicken has a nice crisp on the outside while tender inside. Served with fries and salad.

IMG_6500
Steak Sandwich 4/5

Stacked with grilled beef, onion rings, lettuce, tomatoes and brown sauce, the Steak Sandwich ($13.90) was worth the penny. The perfectly grilled beef impressed me and well paired with the special brown sauce.

IMG_6503
Brownie with Ice Cream 3/5

IMG_6509
Bread Pudding 3/5

IMG_6511
Apple Crumble 3/5

Besides the extensive mains that are available on the Canadian Pizza Dine In cafe, it also offers some classic desserts for the sweet tooth. We tried the Brownie, Bread Pudding and Apple Crumble. Unfortunately I didn't get to note down the price. The dessert was nothing to shout for but decently good.

In a small way I am quite excited about Canadian Pizza Dine-In Cafe. The mains are value for money and it is currently the only place you get your Canadian Pizza prepared by the chef upon order. What's more, the mains are available for delivery too. At the moment, the cafe is having a Friday night special with $40 spent customer gets a free regular pizza.
