Paradise Pizza & Elixir Coffee and Wine @ Holland Grove - Indulge in New Lineup of Artisanal Sourdough Pizzas, Pastas and Sides

IMG_5284

The introduction of Paradise Pizza was inspired by the popularity of the pasta and pizzas previously served by Elixir Coffee and Wine.

IMG_5261

Both brands are still housed under one roof in Holland Grove, allowing you to enjoy quality coffee and wines alongside a refreshed menu of sourdough pizzas, pasta and sides, all inspired by comfort foods from around the world.

IMG_5279
Beverages

We opted for a refreshing Yuzu Cooler ($6) and the chocolatey Marou Single Origin Chocolate ($7) for our beverages. For coffee enthusiasts, don't miss their brews made with beans from the award-winning Blacklist Coffee in Perth.

IMG_5280

IMG_5281
Deep Fried Burrata 4/5

The Deep Fried Burrata ($24) immediately caught our eye from the list of starters. This hearty dish features a thin-crusted fried burrata ball served with pomodoro, arugula rocket, and balsamic caviar. The plate offered a well-balanced blend of savoury and sweet, with the balsamic caviar adding pops of sweet and fruity notes.

IMG_5282

IMG_5285
Mentaiko Lemon Butter 4.2/5

The Mentaiko Lemon Butter ($22) pasta was a delightful surprise. The mafaldine’s curly edges excellently picked up the bright sauce, which, though initially more sour than expected, became increasingly enjoyable. The generous addition of tobiko provided extra bursts of salty notes and crunch.

IMG_5283
Jap A Dog 4.5/5

Paradise Pizza created Jap A Dog ($26), inspired by the popular hot dog chain in Canada. The combination of Arabiki sausage, furikake, kewpie mayo and bonito flakes was harmonious and reminiscent of an okonomiyaki. Make sure to dig into the pizza while it's hot to appreciate the chewy, freshly made sourdough base fully! There are currently 7 other pizza flavours to check out, including interesting options like Hot Assam and Black Truffle, as well as classics such as Pepperoni and Margherita.

IMG_5287
Darn Good Tiramisu 4/5

We completed our meal with the Darn Good Tiramisu ($14), crafted with mascarpone and Blacklist’s espresso, following the same recipe as the restaurant’s sister brand, Fat Belly. While I found it slightly too creamy for my liking, the flavours were spot on, making it a satisfying end to our meal.

Chicco Pasta Bar @ Holland Village - A Delicious New Addition Offering Homemade and Affordable Pasta

ChiccoHollandV17

Following the successful launch of Chicco Pasta Bar on Telok Ayer Street, this popular pasta restaurant, known for offering top-quality homemade pasta at affordable prices, has opened a new outlet in Holland Village. I'm particularly excited about this new location as it's much closer to my home.

ChiccoHollandV3
Duck and Parma Ham Toastie 4.2/5

We kicked off our meal with the Duck and Parma Ham Toastie ($16). This toasted sandwich is generously packed with confit duck, Parma ham, and manchego cheese. The result is an intense and satisfying rich and savoury flavour profile. However, the richness might be overwhelming for one person to finish all four pieces, making it ideal for sharing.

ChiccoHollandV7
Gramigna 4/5

ChiccoHollandV19

Chicco Pasta Bar is known for showcasing seven different types of pasta at any given time, many of which are unique shapes not commonly found in other restaurants. We started with the Gramigna ($20), a creamy dish tossed in pork ragù and finished with cheese shavings. The combination of the tender pasta and the savoury ragu creates a comforting and flavourful dish.

ChiccoHollandV12
Spaghetti 4/5

Next, we tried the more familiar Spaghetti ($24), prepared aglio olio style, and paired it with squid, prawns, and clams. The flavours were well-balanced, making the dish delicious and satisfying. Notably, the texture of the pasta was softer compared to the usual al dente, providing a different but enjoyable experience.

ChiccoHollandV29
Gigli 4.2/5

Another standout pasta dish was the Gigli ($18), cooked in truffle ricotta and field mushrooms. This dish offered a delightful play of textures, with the doughy pasta providing a lovely bite and the field mushrooms adding a contrasting texture. The addition of truffle elevated the dish with an earthy note, making it a favourite of the evening.

ChiccoHollandV34
Iberico Pork Chop Parmigiana 4.2/5

ChiccoHollandV38

During dinner service, Chicco Pasta Bar offers a variety of mains in addition to their pasta dishes. We opted for the Iberico Pork Chop Parmigiana ($30). The pork was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy beneath a thin batter coat. It was dressed in a tangy tomato sauce and topped with cheese shavings, served with a side of French fries. The dish was a well-executed blend of flavours and textures.

ChiccoHollandV43
Tiramisu 4.5/5

For dessert, we indulged in the Pistachio Tiramisu ($12). This twist on the classic tiramisu features a perfect balance of creamy coffee mascarpone and nutty pistachio. The flavours melded together beautifully, creating an utterly satisfying end to the meal.

ChiccoHollandInterior-1

Chicco Pasta Bar's new outlet in Holland Village lives up to the reputation of its original location, offering a delightful range of unique pasta dishes and Italian specialities. While some dishes may be rich and best shared, the overall experience is one of high-quality ingredients and well-crafted flavors. With its diverse menu and inviting atmosphere, Chicco Pasta Bar is a welcome addition to the vibrant dining scene in Holland Village.

Little Pond 小鱼塘 @ Holland Village - Sauerkraut Fish Hotpot and Prawn Pot Restaurant with Unlimited Drinks, Ice Cream and Condiments at $1/Pax

IMG_9069

I’ve been curious about Little Pond (小鱼塘) after visiting the relatively new One Holland Village. The Chinese restaurant sits on the second floor, just next to Lau Wang Claypot.

IMG_9104

The restaurant was filled with a constant stream of diners on a weekday night. Little Pond specialises in Golden Sauerkraut Fish (酸菜鱼) and Fried Prawn dishes available in different flavours.

IMG_9025

For $1 per person, you get unlimited drinks, ice cream, condiments, and sauces.

IMG_9033

A special mention to their drinks - apart from the typical sweet cold beverages, they offer healthier customisable drinks using a range of tea ingredients, such as Jasmine Tea, Rock Sugar, Chrysanthemum Flowers, and more.

IMG_1655
Golden Sauerkraut Fish 4/5

What differentiates Little Pond from other sauerkraut fish places is that their Golden Sauerkraut Fish ($39.90 for Small) can be enjoyed like a steamboat! After having the fish, you can opt for additional sides to cook in the soup afterwards.

IMG_9059

The induction stove in the middle of each table will help keep your pot bubbling hot, and the service staff will assist in adding more broth along the way. While it may not be the best sauerkraut fish we've had, we liked the freshness and texture of the fish slices. We found it pretty value for money too. By default, the pot comes with slices of snakehead fish, cabbage, enoki mushrooms and tofu puffs. Note that the broth can get quite salty, especially after you've added additional ingredients.

IMG_9086

For our ‘steamboat ingredients’, we had Sliced Chestnut Pork Neck Roll ($8.50), Mashed Shrimp Meat Paste ($7), 6 Sec Seaweed ($5), Cheerful Farm ($12), and Sweet Potato Noodle ($3.80).

IMG_9054

I would skip the Sweet Potato Noodle next time, as the type they use disintegrates too quickly for my liking.

IMG_9037

IMG_9076
Signature Fragrant Spicy Prawn 4/5

Moving on to their Signature Fragrant Spicy Prawn ($49.90 for Small), it was a pity that even though the prawns were sizable and meaty, we found them overcooked. The prawn pot was a lot more oily but had good heat. It came with a bed of ingredients such as konjac, corn cobs, potato strips, lotus root, and more.

IMG_9079
Cold Mixed Shredded Vegetables 4.2/5

If you're coming in a bigger group, try their starters too. We particularly enjoyed the Cold-Mixed Shredded Vegetables ($8) and Cold-Mixed Tofu and Dried Moss Vege ($6). The former had a mix of kelp, carrot, beancurd skin, peanuts, and more in a tangy seasoning.

IMG_9049
Cold Mixed Tofu & Dried Moss Vege 4.2/5

On the other hand, the Cold Mixed Tofu & Dried Moss Vege ($6) had crunchy dried moss vegetables and slices of beancurd in a mild dressing.

IMG_9048
Orlean Chicken Skewers 4/5

We also had the Orlean Chicken Skewers ($3.90 for 2 Sticks), which were seasoned well but slightly pricey.

Ginkyo by Kinki @ One Holland Village - Redefining Japanese Dining with a Festival of Flavours

Ginkyo17

Nestled in the heart of One Holland Village, Ginkyo by Kinki emerges as a vibrant social haven, weaving a tapestry of contemporary creativity into the fabric of traditional Japanese dining. Drawing inspiration from the Icho Matsuri 'Ginkgo Festival' in Tokyo, this modern Japanese bistro is the brainchild of the visionaries behind Kinki Restaurant + Bar at Customs House. Ginkyo doesn't just offer a meal; it orchestrates an experience, blending authenticity with a touch of avant-garde flair.

Ginkyo3
Truffle Fat Wings 4.2/5

We first sampled the Truffle Fat Wings ($19) - a delightful symphony of textures and flavours. Deboned wings, generously stuffed with Niigata Koshihikari rice infused with truffle paste, edamame, and sea kelp. Charcoal-grilled to perfection and glazed with housemade yakitori sauce, these wings transcend the ordinary. The oil from the chicken skin elevates the dish, and a squeeze of lemon adds the perfect zing.

Ginkyo9
Uni, Caviar, Ikura 4.2/5

The Uni, Caviar, Ikura dish ($22) is a visual and gustatory masterpiece. Resembling sushi, the rice is seasoned with kombu, shaped, and pressed overnight. Tempura-battered and deep-fried for a crispy texture, it's adorned with negitoro, Tokujo grade uni, Magnum ops, Oscietra caviar, Kita-sanriku ikura, sliced cucumber, and gold flakes. A symphony of flavours unfolds with each bite—a perfect harmony of the sea and land.

Ginkyo11
Kimchi Onigiri Arancini 3.8/5

Ginkyo's playful creativity shines in the Kimchi Onigiri Arancini ($14). A Japanese twist on Italian arancini, deep-fried kimchi rice filled with gorgonzola is wrapped in seaweed and served with kimchi aioli. The result is a tantalising explosion of spicy and savoury notes, redefining the boundaries of fusion cuisine.

Ginkyo15
Swordfish Ceviche 4/5

The Peruvian Swordfish Ceviche ($19) is a journey to South America and Japan on a single plate. Diced swordfish marinated in fig-infused Japanese rice vinegar and lime juice meets a medley of citrus, tomato, avocado, Japanese cucumber, shallots, pickled green chilli, and spicy mayo. Enjoy it on crispy rice crackers for a burst of textures and flavours — a delightful wrap of freshness.

Ginkyo19
Hamburg Wagyu 4.2/5

For a carnivorous indulgence, the Hamburg Wagyu ($36) steals the spotlight. Kagoshima A4 wagyu, minced and seasoned to perfection, graces a bed of crispy rice. Topped with a hot egg bath, burdock chips, and oba tempura, this dish is an orchestra of flavours and textures — grilled elegance that unfolds with every bite. There is also the option of topping up $15 for foie gras.

Ginkyo25
Okonomi-Rosti 4.5/5

The Okonomi-Rosti ($30) offers a quirky take on the traditional okonomiyaki. Grated potatoes seared to a crisp form the base, adorned with cabbage, bacon, Hokkaido scallops, bonito flakes, mentaiko sauce, and shredded nori. Each bite is a dance of flavours — a perfect fusion of Japanese and European influences.

GinkyoInterior-2

Ginkyo by Kinki is more than a restaurant; it's a culinary overture that celebrates the fusion of tradition and innovation. The menu is a curated symphony, with each dish a note in the harmonious composition of Japanese flavours and global influences. As you step into Ginkyo, prepare for a gastronomic journey that transcends boundaries, guided by the expert hands of culinary maestros.
