SPRUCE @ HillV2 - 15th Anniversary Grand Reopening with New Menu Featuring Collaboration by MasterChef Singapore Season 4 Winner Inderpal Singh

IMG_2232

SPRUCE recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a grand reopening at HillV2 and introduced a new bakery and bistro concept. Their all-new menu features a range of new dishes alongside an exclusive MasterChef collaboration with MasterChef Singapore Season 4 winner, Inderpal Singh. This collaboration consists of 5 items by Chef Inderpal, which showcase his expertise in spices.

IMG_2169

The new modern space is adorned with warm lights and lots of greens, making it a cosy space for gatherings.

IMG_2175
Beverages

Their beverage list is extensive, with homemade drinks such as Homemade Lemonade ($8), freshly squeezed lemon with fresh mint, and Arnold Palmer ($7), a blend of freshly brewed tea and homemade lemonade. Cocktails, created in collaboration with award-winning mixologist Nithi, are also available.

IMG_3084

IMG_3083
MasterChef Laksa Pumpkin Soup 3.8/5

The MasterChef Laksa Pumpkin Soup ($15) caught our eye for its intriguing combination of sweet pumpkin, laksa leaves, galanga and chilli! The creamy soup took some getting used to but paired well with a crunchy slice of garlic bread.

IMG_3086

IMG_2204
MasterChef - Fenugreek Crab Cake 4.2/5

A popular MasterChef creation is the Fenugreek Crab Cake ($22). Despite its price, it was chock full of succulent crab meat. We were also fans of the rich and aromatic fenugreek chutney, which enhanced the overall umami flavours.

IMG_2228
MasterChef “Chilli Prawn” Roti John 3.5/5

The MasterChef "Chilli Prawn" Roti John ($27) featured prawns in chilli crab sauce on a basil roti john, offering a special twist on the classic beef or chicken versions. However, it was a tad pricey for its portion.

IMG_2216
Prawn Orecchiette 4/5

For mains, we first had the Prawn Orecchiette ($24), which saw orecchiette pasta tossed in spinach and garlic cream sauce, with tiger prawn chunks and zucchini. While I would have liked the pasta a touch softer, the garlicky sauce was quite enjoyable.

IMG_2224
Truffled & Mushroom Risotto 3.8/5

The Truffled & Mushroom Risotto ($23) was decent, with carnaroli rice simmered with mushrooms and mascarpone cheese. The thick texture made it better suited as a sharing dish.

IMG_2239

IMG_2253
Chimichurri Baby Back Ribs 4.2/5

Apart from the Fenugreek Crab Cake, our other unanimous favourite of the night was the Chimichurri Baby Back Ribs ($26). I rarely order baby back ribs as they usually come doused in a thick, sweet sauce, which I am not a fan of. SPRUCE's rendition, however, has the tender ribs served with a zesty homemade chimichurri sauce and shoestring fries on the side.

IMG_3085

IMG_2250
MasterChef - Barramundi & Coconut Briyani 4/5

The MasterChef — Barramundi & Coconut Briyani ($28), aptly described by my dining companions as a healthy briyani, was clean-tasting in a good way. The pan-seared barramundi had a crisp skin, while its meat remained tender. It was atop coconut briyani with pistachio and raisins and accompanied by a side of refreshing yogurt.

Kozen Sushi Bar & Restaurant @ Flanders Square - Offering Dry-aged Sashimi and a Variety of Delightful Japanese Dishes

Ambience 2

Nestled in the quaint street just behind the City Square Mall carpark, Kozen Sushi Bar & Restaurant specialises in dry-aged sashimi, offering a unique twist on traditional Japanese cuisine.

Chawanmushi Crabmeat 2
Chawanmushi of the day – Snow Crab 4/5

We started our meal with the Snow Crab Chawanmushi ($16.90). The jiggling steamed egg topped with sweet snow crab meat and ikura was pleasantly delightful, with a fresh hint of sweetness from the snow crab. This dish was a definite winner, and we really enjoyed it.

Chawanmushi Scallop 2
Chawanmushi of the day – Scallop 3.8/5

Another chawanmushi we tried was the Scallop Chawanmushi ($16.90). It was a good dish topped with aburi fresh scallop and ikura, but it lacked the flavour depth of the snow crab version.

Lobster Toro Don 2
Lobster Toro Don 4.2/5

The Lobster Toro Don ($59.90) is a premium don featuring fatty tuna (toro) dry-aged for 9 days, chunks of lobster meat with uni sauce, and topped with ikura. It is served with raw egg yolk for dipping the tuna. This dish was incredibly umami, and we scraped every single grain of rice from the bowl!

Beef Wine Short Ribs 2
Beef Wine Short Ribs 3.5/5

The Beef Wine Short Ribs ($45.90) offered fork-tender braised beef short ribs, making it an excellent appetiser for sharing if you're looking for something non-fish. However, we found it too salty for our taste, but it might be perfect for those who love beef.

Nigiri 2
Seasonal Nigiri 4/5

The Seasonal Nigiri Platter provided a great mix of dry-aged and seasonal sashimi, allowing us to try different fishes, each with its own sweetness and flavour. A highlight of any Japanese meal, this sushi platter did not disappoint. Our selection included Chutoro, Isaki, Kinmedai, Smoked Salmon, Minced Tuna Maki topped with Uni, Aka Ebi with Ikura, Mikan Tai, Shimaaji, and Akami. Be sure to check with the restaurant for the current selection, as it changes seasonally.

Chocolate Banana Waffle 2
Chocolate Banana Waffle 3/5

Kozen has recently launched a dessert bar, open from 6pm daily until 1am, making it a great spot for late-night dessert cravings. We tried the Chocolate Banana Waffle ($14.90), accompanied by not-too-sweet chocolate ice cream and caramel macadamia. While the flavours were nice, the waffle itself wasn't crispy enough for our liking.

Ambience 3

Kozen Sushi Bar & Restaurant impresses with its innovative dry-aged sashimi and a variety of delightful dishes. The Snow Crab Chawanmushi and Lobster Toro Don were standouts, offering exceptional flavors and quality. While some dishes like the Beef Wine Short Ribs and Chocolate Banana Waffle had room for improvement, the overall experience at Kozen was enjoyable and worth a visit for anyone looking to indulge in premium Japanese cuisine.

Ajoomma Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant @ Gemmill Lane - Celebrates June Holidays with Moo-ve & Tail Campaign, and A Revamped Menu Featuring Seafood Barbecue and Traditional Korean Dishes

Ajoomma55

Ajoomma Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant at Gemmill Lane is celebrating the June holidays with a new "Moo-ve & Tail" campaign. The campaign offers diners a chance to win various prizes, such as a free steamed egg, complimentary side dishes, free plates of pork/beef, and more. The grand prize is 30% off the total dining bill. Along with this exciting campaign, the restaurant has revamped its menu, featuring seafood barbecue delights and traditional Korean dishes.

Ajoomma62
Black Trumpette Angus Beef Tataki 4/5

We began our meal with the Black Trumpette Angus Beef Tataki ($32) and Truffle Steamed Egg ($16) to whet our appetites before diving into the barbecue. The Angus Beef Tataki was a standout, with its beefy richness beautifully complemented by the accompanying components.

Ajoomma39
Truffle Steamed Egg 4/5

The Truffle Steamed Egg, resembling a soufflé, was extremely fluffy and pillowy. The truffle's earthy note elevated its flavour profile.

Ajoomma58
Korean BBQ 4.2/5

Ajoomma24
Marinated Chicken Thigh 150gm

Ajoomma32
US Prime 2MM Beef Short Plate 150gm

Ajoomma43
2MM  Pork Belly 150gm

Moving on to the highlight of the night, the Korean Charcoal BBQ, I appreciated the use of charcoal fire, which imparted a wonderful smokiness to the grilled ingredients. For our BBQ selection, we had:

- Marinated Chicken Thigh (150gm)
- US Prime 2MM Beef Short Plate (150gm, $31)
- 2MM Pork Belly (150gm, $28)

Ajoomma48
Marinated US Scallops with Dill

Ajoomma19
South Africa Live Abalone

Besides the meats, the restaurant also offers a variety of seafood for grilling. We tried the Marinated US Scallops with Dill ($36 for 5pcs) and the South Africa Live Abalone ($18/pc). Watching the live abalone being grilled over the charcoal fire was a unique experience, as this is not commonly seen in most Korean BBQ restaurants.

Ajoomma5
Spicy Kimchi Tuna Soup 3/5

Apart from the BBQ, the restaurant offers several mains. We started with the Spicy Kimchi Tuna Soup ($20), a hearty and flavorful stew that showcased the bold and tangy flavours of the kimchi, making it a comforting choice.

Ajoomma12
Korean Beef Tartare Bibimap 4/5

The Korean Beef Tartare Bibimbap ($25) is an innovative two-in-one dish where traditional Korean bibimbap is topped with beef tartare. The beef tartare added a textural contrast and an extra layer of flavour, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the dish.

Ajoomma67
Japchae 4/5

The Japchae ($23) featured glass noodles stir-fried with a variety of vegetables in a sweet-savoury soy-based sauce. The delightful mix of flavours and textures, along with the fragrance of sesame oil, made this dish a joy to eat.

Ajoomma74
Coconut Jelly with Coconut Ice Cream 4.2/5

We ended our meal with the Coconut Jelly with Coconut Ice Cream ($12.50). The coconut jelly, made with coconut water, was very refreshing, and the coconut ice cream added an extra touch of sweetness, rounding off the dinner perfectly.

Ajoomma Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant at Gemmill Lane offers an exciting dining experience with its "Moo-ve & Tail" campaign and revamped menu. The use of charcoal fire for grilling imparts a delicious smokiness to the dishes, while the inclusion of seafood and traditional Korean mains adds variety. Whether you're there for the BBQ or the mains, Ajoomma promises a delightful meal.

The Marmalade Pantry @ Anchorpoint Shopping Centre - New Weekend Brunch Menu Selection

IMG_5033

The Marmalade Pantry has recently launched a brand new brunch menu, available only on weekends.

IMG_4977
Whipped Feta Brulee 2.8/5

First, jazzing up the brunch experience is a sharing starter – Whipped Feta Brulee ($18). This dish features a creamy blend of whipped feta and cream cheese with a caramelised crust textured with pomegranate seeds, pistachios, and dates. Served with sourdough crostini, it's akin to a mezze. It would have been more enjoyable with a higher ratio of feta, as I found the sweetness of the dip a tad cloying towards the end.

IMG_5006
Crab & Chilli Scramble 3/5

We had the Crab & Chilli Scramble ($30) and Beef & Potatoes ($30) for mains. The first featured scrambled free-range eggs infused with homemade chilli jam and paired with poached lump crab meat. The crab meat was meaty and had a pleasant, sweet taste. The eggs were delightfully fluffy, but the sweet chilli jam made the dish's overall taste a tad on the sweeter side rather than injecting that expected depth of heat or flavour.

IMG_4994
Beef & Potatoes 4.2/5

On the other hand, Beef & Potatoes ($30) stood out with its tender 150-day grain-fed Australian beef brisket, served with a savoury white bean puree contrasted with sweet roasted grapes. The dish was completed with chunks of fluffy roasted potatoes, creating a well-balanced and hearty main course.

IMG_5024
Skillet Pancake 3/5

For something sweet, the Skillet Pancake ($24) features a pancake prepared à la minute and served with berry blossom jam, Chantilly cream, and fresh berries sprinkled with crunchy granola mix. The light cream and tart jam were both delicious and their portions definitely can be more generous given the size of the pancake. The pancake resembled an airy sponge cake more than a pancake, but overall it was a delectable sweet weekend treat.

IMG_4975

The new brunch menu selection can be enjoyed for dine-in at The Marmalade Pantry Anchorpoint from 11 am to 5 pm, the Novena and Downtown outlets from 11:30 am to 5 pm, takeaway (self-collection), and delivery with orders made online.

Boeuf @ Teloy Ayer Street - Launches A Revamped Menu Alongside an Upgrade Weekend Free-Flow Steak Promotion

IMG_4943

Known for its dry-aged steaks, Boeuf at Telok Ayer Street recently launched a revamped menu alongside an upgrade to its popular Weekend Free-Flow Steak promotion, including three unlimited sides.

IMG_4898
Shrimp Avocado Salad 4.5/5

Adding to the range of appetisers available, the Shrimp Avocado Salad ($18) will certainly appeal to seafood lovers. Lightly coated with a sweet and tangy homemade whiskey cocktail sauce, the chilled shrimp boasted a succulent texture enhanced by creamy fresh avocado slices, with pops of crunch and sweetness from pomegranate seeds. Topped with lumpfish caviar, the salad's overall sweetness was punctuated by a delightful briny and salty nuance.

IMG_4913
BBQ Short Ribs 5/5

Due to popular demand, the BBQ Short Ribs ($48), previously available only as part of a platter, are now offered à la carte. It's no wonder, given that the AUS Black Angus Short Ribs were incredibly tender and juicy, with delectably gelatinous parts. The exterior, deliciously caramelised with a blood orange glazed BBQ sauce, provided a sweet and umami complement to the beefy flavours.

IMG_4928
Signature Dry-Aged Ribeye 3.5/5

IMG_4940
Steak Butter

We also tried the Signature Dry-Aged Ribeye ($99) — AUS Black Angus Ribeye MB5 (400g), served with one side and one sauce of your choice. Truffle fries and steak butter are new items, also available à la carte. The steak butter, offered in three different flavours, might intrigue you for an enhanced experience. However, I didn't enjoy the ribeye as much as the short ribs, finding it slightly too chewy and lacking in flavour.

IMG_4936
Truffle Fries 3.5/5

The fries were pretty crisp and moreish with a creamy truffle dip. However, I prefer them with a generous sprinkle of parmesan for that extra oomph.

IMG_4954
Lemon Tart 4/5

For dessert, we had the Lemon Tart ($13 for 2 pieces). Unlike a regular lemon tart filled entirely with lemon curd, which can be overly sweet, this one was filled with whipped mascarpone flavoured with Madagascar vanilla lemon curd and a sprinkle of toasted hazelnuts, offering a more balanced sweetness.

IMG_4925

As mentioned, Boeuf brings a new Weekend Free Flow Steak Promotion. For just $48++ per diner, enjoy endless servings of Argentinian Black Angus Ribeye Steak, grilled over a charcoal fire, with a free-flow trio of sides, including crisp skinny fries, fresh sourdough with butter, and creamed spinach. There is also a refreshing three-course set lunch ($29.90 ++ ) including an appetiser, main course, and coffee or dessert.

Shaburi & Kintan Buffet @ JEM - New Summer Buffet Menu Featuring Seafood Platter with Oysters, Scallops, Prawns and More

IMG_2940

Shaburi & Kintan Buffet has been a popular, family-friendly option at JEM. It offers both Shabu-Shabu and Kintan (Japanese BBQ) buffet options at various price points. The restaurant has launched a new seasonal Natsu Matsuri Shaburi Platter/Kintan Platter as part of summer celebrations.

IMG_3067

From now till 27 June 2024, the Natsu Matsuri Shaburi Platter is available at an attractive 20% discount, priced at $68.04++ for 2 pax (U.P. $78.80++). After that, it will return to its original price point and remain available until the end of August.

IMG_2932
Natsu Matsuri Shaburi Buffet 4/5

The restaurant was decked out in vibrant decor that matched the summer vibes. Look out for the blue food tags to identify the special seasonal items!

IMG_2964
Twin Pot

With the whole range of broths available, we definitely appreciated that we could opt for two broths instead of just one. For an additional $1, you can opt for the Twin Pot. We chose the classic Original Kombu and Chicken Collagen Paitan for our first pot and the seasonal Creamy Truffle and Clear Truffle for our second. Other broth options include Hot Miso, Tonkotsu, and Sukiyaki.

IMG_2909
Banchan

We enjoyed the Banchan more than we expected! The sesame spinach, beansprouts, kimchi and radish tasted fresh and had a good crunch.

IMG_2899
Sushi Rolls

However, the Sushi Rolls, mainly consisting of chicken and a higher rice-to-meat ratio, were skippable in favour of better carb options.

IMG_2891
Takoyaki

At the Fried Food section, you can find Tempura Sweet Potato, French Fries and Takoyaki, all of which we noticed were popular with children.

IMG_2913
Tori Karaage

Among the starters, there was Chawanmushi and Tori Karaage available. The latter was chunky and seasoned well, despite lacking crunch.

IMG_2920
Hot Food

The Hot Food section offered a variety of dishes, including Bacon with Potatoes, Beef Japchae, Curry Chicken, Yakisoba and Ginger Fried Rice. We were pleasantly surprised by the Ginger Fried Rice, which had a lingering ginger aroma.

IMG_2938
Condiments

All Condiments are included in the buffet price, and there is a good selection of sauces to choose from. Take a look at their sauce board for the restaurant's recommended mixes. I liked the Japanese Favourite, a tangy and refreshing mix of ponzu, original Shaburi sauce, and Japanese leek. The seasonal spicy Shaburi sauce, studded with sesame seeds, is perfect for those who like more heat.

IMG_3009

IMG_3028
Natsu Matsuri Shaburi Platter

Next came the buffet's highlight, the Natsu Matsuri Shaburi Platter, served in a wooden boat. It featured a range of seafood, including Half-Shell Scallops, Cooked Prawns, Fresh Salmon, Baby Cuttlefish, Oysters, and White-Shell Clams. Our favourites were the plump scallops and crunchy prawns.

IMG_3006

IMG_3002
Special Shabu Meat

As part of the buffet, we could select two plates of Special Shabu Meat. We chose the Tender Chicken, Homemade Chicken Ball, Iberico Pork, and Pork Cheese Shabu. The meats were thinly sliced and fresh, without any gamey smell. The Pork Cheese Shabu was particularly interesting, with cheese slices served alongside the pork. We were taught to roll the cheese up before putting it into the bubbling pot for a quick cook for that cheesy ooze.

IMG_2926

IMG_2947
Shabu ingredients

Shabu ingredients are free-flowing for all diners, including leafy vegetables and chilled/frozen options like fishcakes, crabsticks, chikuwa, and fish balls. We enjoyed the fresh ingredients, including black fungus, corn, mushrooms, tofu, egg, etc.

IMG_2908
Chocolate Fondue

For desserts, we started with the Chocolate Fondue, which featured bittersweet chocolate with choices of marshmallows, churros, and more to pair. Unfortunately, we found the churros and donuts a bit too hard and preferred the fresh fruits.

IMG_2900
Dango

The time-limited Dango leaned more dense. They come in pairs on a stick, with sauces on the side to drizzle over. While we found the Dango average, the black sesame paste was rich and fragrant.

IMG_2916

IMG_3056
DIY Kakigori Station

The DIY Kakigori Station, located with the beverage machines, allowed us to make our own shaved ice. Pour the ice cubes into the top of the machine, switch it on, and you will have a bowl of shaved ice in no time. Drizzle with sauces such as Strawberry sauce, Blue Hawaii sauce, and Condensed Milk before pairing with azuki red beans or even soft serve and warabi mochi. While the ice wasn't as fine in texture, it was a fun experience.

IMG_2983

As part of the summer celebration, diners who spend a minimum of $80 can participate in their Sure-win Gachapon Game, with prizes such as return cash vouchers and cute keychains.
