Coucou @ Craig Road - New Look and Menu Elevated With Additional Swiss Classics

IMG_9307

Coucou, the Swiss Restaurant located at Craig Road, has recently unveiled a refreshed new look and menu. The revamped cosy interior brings to our sunny island the ambience of a snug alpine cabin in the Swiss mountains, making it a cosy spot to gather over bubbling hot cheese fondue.

IMG_9291
Malakoff 4.5/5

Part of the mainstays, Malakoff features a golden, deep-fried dome of Gruyère cheese with a crispy exterior and gooey, molten centre. It is a Swiss speciality, unique to only three villages in the "La Côte" region. Served with vinegary Dijon Mustard to cut its richness, Swiss mercenaries once enjoyed this treat with local white wine. Over here at Coucou, a curated list of wines is offered.

IMG_9288
Fondue Moitié Moitié 4/5

A staple for almost every table at Coucou, Fondue Moitié Moitié is a decadent pot of melted Vacherin Fribourgeois and Gruyére, served with crusty bread. Sides such as potatoes and pickles for add-ons are available.

IMG_9279
La Fameuse Salade Coucou 4/5

It is recommended to have some La Fameuse Salade Coucou alongside to complement its richness - a curly chopped salad tossed with housemade 'Grand Père' dressing, a recipe passed down from the co-owner Yves' grandfather.

IMG_9254
Le Tartare De Boeuf 4/5

Coucou offers a Le Tartare De Boeuf prepared tableside. The beef tartare is mixed with Sbrinz Cheese, Rucola salad, chopped onions, chilli and mustard. A sampling is given to ensure that the spice and tang levels are suited to your preference. I had mine with more mustard for an extra kick of tang.

L'iconique Emince De Veau Zurichoise 4.5/5

The Traditional Zurich Style Veal Ragout with Rosti is a crowd-pleaser for mains. The mushroom sauce was comforting and flavoursome, and the rosti was fluffy with crispy sides. While some of the sliced veal were slightly dry, the delightful creamy mushroom sauce compensated for it.

Pave De Bar Au Safran 4.5/5

The Sea Bass Fillet is a lighter option. The moist and flaky fish paired aptly with a subtle floral saffron sauce. The sauce had an excellent consistency, adding a gentle yet flavorful note to the delicate sweetness of the fish.

Tartrelette Au Citron De Mrs Chin 4/5

Dessert was a Lemon Tart with raspberry and its top brûlée. The tart shell was buttery and delicious, and I appreciate how the bitter caramelised notes and the tart raspberry balanced the sweetness of the curd.

Boeuf @ Teloy Ayer Street - Launches A Revamped Menu Alongside an Upgrade Weekend Free-Flow Steak Promotion

IMG_4943

Known for its dry-aged steaks, Boeuf at Telok Ayer Street recently launched a revamped menu alongside an upgrade to its popular Weekend Free-Flow Steak promotion, including three unlimited sides.

IMG_4898
Shrimp Avocado Salad 4.5/5

Adding to the range of appetisers available, the Shrimp Avocado Salad ($18) will certainly appeal to seafood lovers. Lightly coated with a sweet and tangy homemade whiskey cocktail sauce, the chilled shrimp boasted a succulent texture enhanced by creamy fresh avocado slices, with pops of crunch and sweetness from pomegranate seeds. Topped with lumpfish caviar, the salad's overall sweetness was punctuated by a delightful briny and salty nuance.

IMG_4913
BBQ Short Ribs 5/5

Due to popular demand, the BBQ Short Ribs ($48), previously available only as part of a platter, are now offered à la carte. It's no wonder, given that the AUS Black Angus Short Ribs were incredibly tender and juicy, with delectably gelatinous parts. The exterior, deliciously caramelised with a blood orange glazed BBQ sauce, provided a sweet and umami complement to the beefy flavours.

IMG_4928
Signature Dry-Aged Ribeye 3.5/5

IMG_4940
Steak Butter

We also tried the Signature Dry-Aged Ribeye ($99) — AUS Black Angus Ribeye MB5 (400g), served with one side and one sauce of your choice. Truffle fries and steak butter are new items, also available à la carte. The steak butter, offered in three different flavours, might intrigue you for an enhanced experience. However, I didn't enjoy the ribeye as much as the short ribs, finding it slightly too chewy and lacking in flavour.

IMG_4936
Truffle Fries 3.5/5

The fries were pretty crisp and moreish with a creamy truffle dip. However, I prefer them with a generous sprinkle of parmesan for that extra oomph.

IMG_4954
Lemon Tart 4/5

For dessert, we had the Lemon Tart ($13 for 2 pieces). Unlike a regular lemon tart filled entirely with lemon curd, which can be overly sweet, this one was filled with whipped mascarpone flavoured with Madagascar vanilla lemon curd and a sprinkle of toasted hazelnuts, offering a more balanced sweetness.

IMG_4925

As mentioned, Boeuf brings a new Weekend Free Flow Steak Promotion. For just $48++ per diner, enjoy endless servings of Argentinian Black Angus Ribeye Steak, grilled over a charcoal fire, with a free-flow trio of sides, including crisp skinny fries, fresh sourdough with butter, and creamed spinach. There is also a refreshing three-course set lunch ($29.90 ++ ) including an appetiser, main course, and coffee or dessert.

The Astor Grill @ St. Regis Singapore - A Pop-up Restaurant Inspired By The Heritage of St. Regis, New York

AstorGrill42

Nestled within the St. Regis Singapore, The Astor Grill is a pop-up dining experience that promises an unforgettable culinary journey from 1 June to 31 August 2023. This exclusive pop-up brings together premium cuts from renowned artisan suppliers and introduces bespoke dining rituals from the esteemed House of Astor in New York. Available for a la carte lunch and dinner at Brasserie Les Saveurs, The St. Regis Singapore, The Astor Grill offers a truly exquisite experience.

AstorGrill2
Assorted Bread Basket

To kickstart the gastronomic adventure, diners are treated to a complimentary Assorted Bread Basket featuring a delightful selection of Sourdough, Curry Leaves, and Seaweed-infused bread.

AstorGrill5
Amuse Bouche

The culinary journey begins with a tantalizing Amuse Bouche—grilled sourdough topped with Tomato and Iberico Ham. While a small morsel, it serves as a flavorful teaser to awaken the taste buds.

AstorGrill14
Traditional Beef Tartare 4/5

AstorGrill17
King Crab Salad 4.2/5

AstorGrill12
Grilled King Prawn 4.2/5

Impeccably crafted starters grace the menu, including the Traditional Beef Tartare ($30), King Crab Salad ($52), and Tiger Prawns 'A la Plancha' with Avocado, Peach, and Basil ($39). Each dish offers a unique combination of flavours and textures, making it difficult to choose a favourite. However, the grilled tiger prawns stand out with their sweet succulence, complemented by the fruity peach and creamy avocado.

AstorGrill44
Tomahawk Australia Angus Grass Fed 4.2/5

From the signature sharing cuts menu, we had the 1.4kg Australian Grass Fed Angus Tomahawk ($290) grilled over the custom-built parilla grill. The whole tomahawk will be presented on a steak trolley and carved tableside. Beautifully marbled texture, tender and succulent. A rich and robust full-bodied flavour enhanced with the rosemary aroma.

AstorGrill25
Striploin Japan Full Blood Wagyu A5 4.5/5, Bavette Australian Angus 4.8/5

For discerning palates, The Astor Grill offers artisanal cuts and monthly exclusives. We had the pleasure of savouring the Striploin Japan Full Blood Wagyu A5 500 Days Grain Fed ($170) and Bavette Australian Angus 200 Days Barley Fed ($62). Our table was divided in preferences, with some favouring the Japanese Wagyu for its exceptionally high marbling content, resulting in buttery tenderness. On the other hand, I found the Bavette more appealing, with its well-rounded beefy flavour and a slightly firmer bite, striking a perfect balance between tenderness and texture.

AstorGrill31
Oven Roasted Rack of Lamb 4.2/5

The menu also features non-steak options, such as the Oven Roasted Rack of Lamb ($76). Perfectly grilled, tender, and devoid of any gaminess, it is a delightful choice for those seeking an alternative to beef.

AstorGrill21
Grilled Whole Turbot 4.5/5

The Grilled Whole Turbot ($298) is ideal for sharing, and it impresses with its impeccable texture and flavours.

AstorGrill50
Lemon Tart 4.2/5

AstorGrill51
Astor Grill Tiramisu 4.5/5

To conclude the meal on a sweet note, The Astor Grill offers a selection of delectable desserts. The Lemon Tart ($22) is a perfect choice for a light and refreshing option. Those with a sweet tooth will delight in the Chocolate Mi-Cuit ($22) and Sticky Toffee Pudding ($22). However, my personal favourite is the Astor Grill Tiramisu ($22)—a deconstructed yet well-balanced rendition comprising espresso-soaked ladyfingers, coffee gelato, and crispy gold crumbs.
