MYX @ Chip Bee Garden - Soulful Comfort Food with a Playful Twist

MyX6

MyX (pronounced “Mix”), the latest concept by Eleven Co. Group — the team behind MOXIE, SIRI HOUSE and CUDO — has found a cosy home in Chip Bee Gardens, Holland Village. Designed as a neighbourhood gathering spot, MyX blends soulful comfort food inspired by the American Coastal South and Latin America with a relaxed, community-driven vibe. The menu is built around sharing, bold flavours and creative reinterpretations, making it an inviting place to linger over food, drinks and conversation.

MyX17
Artichoke Dip 4.2/5

We started with the Artichoke Dip ($15), a deceptively indulgent yet straightforward opener. A lush blend of cream cheese, ricotta and parmesan is enriched with truffle paste and truffle oil, giving it a deep, earthy aroma. The marinated artichokes add a gentle tang, while the fried Jerusalem artichokes bring a satisfying crunch. Finished with dill, it is comfort food at its most addictive, especially when scooped generously.

MyX12
Salmon Tiradito 4.2/5

The Salmon Tiradito ($25) impressed with its layered flavours and finesse. The salmon is brined, brushed with shoyu and lightly torched, lending it a subtle smokiness. The dressing — a complex mix of lime juice, citron vinegar, hot pepper sauce, housemade adobo paste, guajillo chilli paste, agave syrup and white shoyu — strikes a delicate balance between acidity, sweetness and heat. Pickled daikon adds freshness, while harissa mayo, balsamic glaze and fried capers elevate the dish with richness and pops of umami.

MyX5
Red Prawn Ceviche 4.5/5

Another standout cold dish was the Red Prawn Ceviche ($23). Lightly blanched local Anka prawns are paired with a chilled tomato-based sauce made from charred beef tomatoes, red bell peppers, red onions, habanero and garlic, blended with paprika, Clamato juice, red wine vinegar and beet juice. Seasoned with Cantonese prawn powder and sakura ebi oil, the ceviche delivers depth and savouriness, while crispy sakura ebi, pickled cucumber and watermelon radish add texture and contrast.

MyX7
Venus Clams 4.2/5

Moving on to warm plates, the Venus Clams ($19) offered comforting indulgence. Bathed in a creamy sauce of nduja, housemade garlic confit, soju, and cream, the clams are further enhanced with smoky chipotle oil. Served with a garlic butter griddled baguette, this dish is made for mopping up every last drop of the rich, flavour-packed sauce.

MyX20
Grilled Iberico Pork 4.2/5

For mains, the Grilled Iberico Pork ($38) is a confident highlight. The pork secreto is marinated overnight in citrus juices, aromatics and Mexican beer, resulting in tender, juicy meat. Lacquered with chipotle aioli and torched upon ordering, it carries a gentle smokiness. Accompaniments such as arugula, pickled plum, burnt red onion purée and a Thai-style toasted rice dressing add layers of acidity, nuttiness and spice, making each bite dynamic and well-balanced.

MyX24

MyX30
Dirrrty Chicken Rice 4.2/5

The Dirrrty Chicken Rice ($32) is MyX’s playful take on a Southern classic with familiar comfort at its core. The chicken, marinated overnight with a robust spice blend and citrus, is roasted till flavourful and succulent. It is paired with dirty rice sautéed with onions, red bell peppers, chorizo, confit garlic, Southern spices and adobo paste, then steeped in chicken stock. Hearty and deeply satisfying, this dish bridges bold Southern flavours with comforting familiarity.

MyX32
Yuanyang Tres Leches 4.2/5

Desserts rounded off the meal on a high note. The Yuanyang Tres Leches ($14) is a clever hybrid of tiramisu, yuanyang and tres leches. A light sponge soaked in black tea, espresso, condensed milk, evaporated milk, cream and cocoa is rich yet not cloying, topped with vanilla-infused mascarpone and served with raspberries for a refreshing lift.

MyX36
Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta 4.2/5

The Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta ($14) offers a lighter finish, with a softly set Greek yoghurt panna cotta infused with kaffir lime and lime juice. The brown butter crumble adds nuttiness, while the cherry compote introduces gentle sweetness and acidity.

Overall, MyX delivers soulful comfort food with creativity and confidence, backed by thoughtful execution and bold flavour combinations. With its inviting atmosphere, shareable plates and playful spirit, it is a welcome addition to Holland Village — a spot that encourages gathering, sharing and returning for more.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

The Drunken Chef Private Dining - Affordable Home Private Dining with Comforting Chinese Classics

TheDrunkenChef32

The Drunken Chef by Sherine Chua is one of the newest additions to the home private dining scene, offering a Chinese cuisine menu at $98 per pax, making it one of the most affordable options currently available. The experience focuses on comforting, well-executed dishes that feel familiar yet thoughtfully prepared, making it ideal for intimate gatherings and family-style celebrations.

TheDrunkenChef39

We started with the Marinated Tomatoes, a refreshing opener that delivered a pleasant balance of sweetness and tanginess. Light and appetising, it gently whetted our appetite and set the tone nicely for the upcoming feast.

TheDrunkenChef42
Braised Beef Shin & Tripe 4.5/5

One of the highlights was the Braised Beef Shin & Tripe. Both components were well infused with the rich braising sauce. The beef shin was tender and flavourful, while the tripe retained a delightful chewy bite. A gentle hint of spiciness helped lift the overall flavour profile, making this a satisfying and robust dish to start the meal.

TheDrunkenChef5
Drunken Chicken 4/5

The Drunken Chicken was tender and well-cooked, though it felt slightly restrained in terms of the Chinese wine aroma and flavour. A more generous hand with the alcohol could have elevated the dish further, giving it the signature fragrance that drunken chicken lovers would expect.

TheDrunkenChef9
Kam Heong Clams 5/5

The Kam Heong Clams stood out with their bold aromatics. The sweet and juicy clams were beautifully coated in a fragrant, punchy sauce that paired exceptionally well with rice. The sauce was so addictive that it was impossible not to drizzle it generously over our bowls, savouring every last drop.

TheDrunkenChef15
Sio Bak 4.8/5

A clear crowd favourite at the table was the Sio Bak. It had been a while since I encountered this style of roast pork, featuring an addictive, crispy, almost biscuity skin. It immediately brought to mind the roasting technique of 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist, delivering both nostalgia and satisfaction with every bite.

TheDrunkenChef18
Cai Poh Steamed Snapper 4.5/5

The Cai Poh Steamed Snapper was simply and skilfully executed. Steamed to perfection, the fish remained moist and tender, while the preserved radish and soy sauce enhanced and highlighted the natural sweetness of the fish meat without overpowering it.

TheDrunkenChef21
Kai Shui Bai Cai 4.2/5

At first glance, the Kai Shui Bai Cai may look humble and unassuming, but simple dishes often require the most finesse. This was done excellently — clean, light, and delicious, allowing the vegetable's natural sweetness to shine through.

TheDrunkenChef25
Seafood Pao Fan 4.5/5

The undeniable highlight of the dinner was the Seafood Pao Fan. Even before it arrived at the table, the rich crustacean aroma wafted out from the kitchen. Once served, the fragrance intensified, drawing everyone in. The robust seafood flavours paired with fluffy rice created a dish that was both hearty and deeply comforting, making it a memorable centrepiece of the meal.

TheDrunkenChef36
Gui Hua Gao 4.2/5

To end on a sweet note, we were served Gui Hua Gao (Osmanthus Jelly). The gentle sweetness and floral fragrance of osmanthus were complemented by crunchy chestnuts and wolfberries, offering a light yet satisfying conclusion to the meal.

Overall, The Drunken Chef by Sherine Chua delivers a value-driven home private dining experience with comforting Chinese dishes that resonate with warmth and familiarity. At $98 per pax, it presents an accessible entry point into the private dining scene, especially for those seeking honest flavours and a hearty communal dining experience.

Revolution Wine Bistro @ Henderson Industrial Park - New Food-Forward Dining Destination by The Team Behind Defunct RVLT

IMG_7797

From the team behind the now-closed RVLT, Revolution at Henderson Road is a brand-new restaurant that has redefined itself as a food-forward dining destination, shedding its old wine bar image. The cosy space is designed in collaboration with iconic Danish design house Fritz Hansen. It is furnished entirely with pieces from their design heritage, lending an understated yet elegant and cosy atmosphere.

IMG_7780
Chicken Nuggets with Tomato Sriracha 4.5/5

At lunch, the menu leans towards simple, comforting fare — shareable starters, locally inspired pastas, and hearty mains. A must-try from the sharing plates is the Chicken Nuggets with Tomato Sriracha ($20), a highly requested favourite carried over from its previous spot. These are far from your usual fast-food nuggets. Made from a golden ratio of 80% chicken thigh and breast to 20% soft bones, they were tender and succulent, with a contrasting crispy crust. The crunchy, soft-bone bits buried within elevated the textural enjoyment. And what made these morsels even more addictive was the in-house Tomato Sriracha dip, crafted with 3-day fermented tomatoes, which imparted a fruity-sweet, vinegary tartness and a punch of heat, making it an excellent palate awakener.

IMG_7768
Homemade Sourdough with Whipped Seaweed Butter 4.5/5

The Homemade Sourdough with Whipped Seaweed Butter ($8) was pleasing, featuring a well-made sourdough that struck a delicate balance of tang, nuttiness, and structure, with a crusty exterior and a chewy interior that paired beautifully with the umami-rich butter.

IMG_7789
Hua Diao White Clams Linguine 4.5/5

Revolution also offers a Set Lunch ($28.80) comprising a salad, a choice of pasta, and a drink (iced tea, lemonade, or coffee). I tried both the Hua Diao White Clams Linguine ($19.80) and the Chicken Rendang Homemade Ravioli ($19.80). The linguine had an intoxicating aroma of Hua Diao wine, with a buttery, garlicky sauce that coated the al dente pasta and large, meaty clams.

IMG_7807
Chicken Rendang Homemade Ravioli 2/5

The ravioli, however, paled in comparison. The pasta dough was a bit thick, and the minced chicken filling made only a slight impact. While the rendang gravy was bold and aromatic, textured with seasoned breadcrumbs, a simpler execution, such as egg pasta with shredded chicken, could have been more successful in conveying the idea.

IMG_7759
Kale Salad 4/5

Among the salads, the Kale Salad was delightful, featuring crisp, fried kale paired with fresh leaves, avocado chunks, and tomatoes.

IMG_7817
Crystal Sensu Fan 5/5

IMG_7824
Chicken Skin Stroopwafel 5/5

Dinner service features a five-course tasting menu ($98++), and I tried a couple of the courses. The starters showcase a Trio of Snacks, starting with Crystal Sensu Fan, topped with Lobster Roe Bavarois and Caviar, which was incredibly delicate yet deeply umami. The Chicken Skin Stroopwafel with Drunken Foie Gras and Rose Wine Jelly offered a playful contrast of crisp chicken skin waffle and unctuous foie gras terrine, with the jelly cutting through the richness.

IMG_7838
Mala Taco 4.5/5

In the same vein, the Mala Taco, filled with luscious negitoro and topped with tomato jelly, featured a sesame and hazelnut-infused tuile that delivered a layered sweet-savoury nuttiness and mala warmth without overwhelming the negitoro. In contrast, the tomato jelly balanced the richness of the bite.

IMG_7851
Mussels Cheong Fun 4.5/5

Another course I tried was the brilliantly executed Mussels Cheong Fun. The soft, tender cheong fun acted like a delicate veil, concealing a surprise of aromatic moules marinières beneath — sweet-savoury with a touch of brininess, brightened by vibrant acidity and a drizzle of scallion oil that added gentle herbaceous notes. Paired with a Jerusalem artichoke purée, the mild, earthy base absorbed the sauce beautifully, making for a deeply satisfying bite.

IMG_7866
Pandan Madeleines 4/5

Rounding off the meal, the petite Pandan Madeleines ($12) were delightful, with a lingering buttery flavour in every bite.

Uoharu (魚治) @ IOI Central Boulevard Towers - Celebrates 1st Anniversary with Limited-Time Menu and Fun Interactive Activities

Uoharu1stAnniversary35

Renowned Tokyo izakaya Uoharu (魚治) marks its first anniversary in Singapore with a lineup of limited-time dishes and engaging activities from 14 August to 19 October. Since opening its doors a year ago, Uoharu has impressed diners with fresh produce sourced directly from the famed Toyosu Market. The izakaya has now expanded its offerings to include premium seafood and fish flown in from Hokkaido, further elevating the authentic Japanese dining experience.

To celebrate the occasion, Uoharu has introduced a series of interactive activities such as the Egg-slide Challenge (win your dish for free if you succeed!), mochi pounding, Polaroid snapshots with a complimentary sake shot, and a lucky-draw Fuku Stick with prizes including free beer and dishes.

Uoharu1stAnniversary6
Seared Miso Sashimi Tartare 3.5/5

The Seared Miso Sashimi Tartare ($14.80) arrives dramatically, fire-torched tableside. Wrapped with seaweed and creamy egg yolk, each bite is rich, smoky, and texturally layered. It is a fun and flavourful start to the meal.

Uoharu1stAnniversary8
Akita Smoked Radish with Cream Cheese 5/5

The Akita Smoked Radish with Cream Cheese ($10.80) is a simple yet outstanding dish that stole the show. The crunchy, smoky-sweet radish paired with smooth cream cheese was so addictive that we immediately ordered a second serving.

Uoharu1stAnniversary10
Japanese-Style Tomato Salad 4.2/5

Refreshing and light, the Japanese-Style Tomato Salad ($12.80) showcased tomatoes with an incredible natural sweetness, enhanced by a nutty goma sesame dressing.

Uoharu1stAnniversary13
A4 Wagyu Baguette with Cured Egg Yolk 3/5

Priced at $16.80 for two pieces, the A4 Wagyu Baguette with Cured Egg Yolk ($16.80 for 2pc) comes with its own Egg-slide Challenge. While the wagyu itself was tender and savoury, the highlight here is the fun activity rather than the flavour.

Uoharu1stAnniversary16

Uoharu1stAnniversary18

Uoharu1stAnniversary17
Grilled Seasonal Shellfish 3.8/5

Grilled Seasonal Shellfish ($38.80) comprises a trio of scallop, turban shell, and surf clam.. The scallop and clam were sweet and delightful, though the turban shell proved tough and less enjoyable.

Uoharu1stAnniversary22
Beef Tongue and Daikon Nitsuke 4/5

The Beef Tongue and Daikon Nitsuke ($21.80) was a comforting and flavourful simmered dish. The tender cubes of beef tongue practically melted in the mouth, balanced beautifully by the sweetness of slow-cooked daikon.

Uoharu1stAnniversary26
Beef Bone Marrow with Baguette Toast 3/5

The Beef Bone Marrow with Baguette Toast ($25.80) delivers rich, buttery marrow spread over crisp baguette, making it a decadent drinking snack. Indulgent as it is, the heaviness may not appeal to everyone.

Uoharu1stAnniversary30
Jumbo Sea Tiger Prawn with Mentai Aburi 4/5

The Jumbo Sea Tiger Prawn with Mentai Aburi ($26.80) impressed with its sweet, briny flesh crowned with creamy, smoky mentai, which is decadent and indulgent. Personally, I felt the bold topping overshadowed the natural sweetness of the prawn, though I can see how the punchier flavours would appeal to the younger generation.

Uoharu1stAnniversary33
Oden Moriawase 4.5/5

The Oden Moriawase ($18.80 for 7 kinds/ $32.80 for 20 kinds) is a quintessential Japanese comfort dish. The lightly seasoned dashi broth, sweet daikon, and variety of fish cakes made this a must-order, especially for sharing.

Uoharu1stAnniversary41
Chicken Wing 4.2/5

Grilled and perfectly executed, the Chicken Wing was juicy with a crisp skin, which is always a crowd pleaser.

Uoharu1stAnniversary49
Premium Seafood Donabe 4/5

Packed with crab, hotate, aka ebi, salmon, and ikura, the Premium Seafood Donabe ($29.80) was brimming with oceanic flavours. The donabe sealed in all the goodness, with fluffy rice soaking up every drop of umami essence.

Uoharu Singapore celebrates its milestone in true izakaya spirit with great food, premium seafood, interactive fun, and plenty of sake to go around. While not every dish hit the same high note, highlights such as the Akita Smoked Radish with Cream Cheese, Oden Moriawase, and Jumbo Sea Tiger Prawn with Mentai Aburi make this anniversary menu well worth a visit.

Filo Bistro @ Upper Thomson Road - Family-Run Bistro Offering Western Cuisine with Asian and Local Influences

IMG_6739

"First in, last out" is what Filo Bistro set out to achieve when it first opened its doors at Upper Thomson a year ago. Unlike the more casual dining spaces in the vicinity, Filo offers a more elevated yet cosy experience, one meant to be so memorable that guests feel reluctant to leave, living up to its motto of being the "first in, last out." The team has now decided to bring together the most beloved dishes from both the Brunch and Dinner menus into a single Unified Menu, launching on 1 September.

IMG_6716
Crispy Halibut 3/5

To start, the Crispy Halibut with Yuzu Mayo ($18) made for a delightful finger food. The airy batter encased firm and flaky slices of halibut, while the citrusy yuzu mayo added a creamy lift to the overall mouthfeel. However, I preferred a thinner crust, considering that the flesh is rather delicate.

IMG_6727
Asahi Clams with Sourdough 5/5

From the appetisers, the Asahi Clams with Sourdough ($22) was a standout. Its soul lay in the broth, crafted with Asahi beer and Japanese sake, an aromatic mix carrying a waft of alcohol, a depth of umami from kombu, and natural sweetness from the clams. The toasted sourdough bread was served as a vehicle to soak up all the goodness of the broth, though it would be more practical to serve them warm in a basket lined with cloth rather than in a dim sum steamer.

IMG_6743
Hokkien Mee Paella 4/5

The menu highlights Western cuisine with Asian and local influences, most evident in the Hokkien Mee Paella ($32). The rice was well infused with the flavours of a rich pork bone and prawn broth, offering both bite and depth. An assortment of seafood ingredients gave the dish a hearty texture, while the use of calamansi in place of lemon was a brilliant nod to a local delight. Still, the addition of a punchy sambal further reinforced that connection.

IMG_6754
Aged Crispy Pork Belly 2.5/5

Less successful was the Aged Crispy Pork Belly ($32). While the skin delivered the desired crunch, the meat itself was tough, and the flavours didn't quite benefit from the ageing process. The accompanying Thai curry barley risotto, though robust in flavour, leaned overly creamy and somewhat cloying, as the barley seemed to have been stirred into a curry cream base rather than cooked together. A more balanced approach could be presenting the risotto topped with bite-sized pieces of crispy pork belly, allowing one to enjoy both elements in a single spoonful and achieve a better harmony of textures and flavours.

IMG_6708
Eternal Blossom, Filo Signature

To complement the food, the drinks menu features curated gin-based cocktails such as Eternal Blossom, alongside a thoughtful selection of coffees and teas. An interesting option is the iced Filo Signature, a mild coffee infused with pandan extract, prepared in-house.

IMG_6693

For those seeking a more intimate dining spot in the Upper Thomson area, Filo Bistro offers a distinctive alternative, presenting an elevated yet homely experience.
