Bacon Wrapped Meatballs 4/5

With a variety of appetizer to choose from, we started off with the Bacon Wrapped Meatballs ($11.90) which comes in deep fried pork meatballs wrapped with crispy bacon. The side of Garlic Aioli sauce dip is a great complement to the savoury pork and bacon.

Pop Corn Pork 3.8/5

The Pop Corn Pork ($9.90) features a basket full of pork cubes marinated with Morganfield's secret spice mix & deep fried till crisp. Dipping it into their homemade Garlic Aioli & BBQ Ranch Sauce adds a sweet tangy and smoky flavour to the savouriness of the meat.

Golden Fried Wings 4/5

We had the Golden Fried Wings ($12.90) as the third appetizer. Marinated with a secret recipe, its outer skin is fried till a golden brown crispiness, while its meat is tender and juicy. The appetizers are best paired with a glass of beer in hand.

Summer Peach Cooler 4/5 and SweetWater Blue 4/5

For drinks, we had the Summer Peach Cooler ($6.90) and SweetWater Blue ($10). The former is a refreshing blend of sweet peach & orange flavour with a splash of fizzy soda, while the latter is a fruit beer which has a refreshing and fruity taste, light with a hint of fresh blueberries. With an ABV of 4.8%, the craft beer is easy to drink and finishes extra clean.

Candied Peach BBQ Sticky Bones 4.2/5

The highlight of the meal is the limited-time Candied Peach BBQ Sticky Bones (Half Slab $29.90, Full Slab $46.90). Created specially for the ladies, it is made with slices of juicy peaches and rich honey, which constitutes the perfect blend of sweet and tangy over the generously-portioned and well-executed ribs.

IMG_20180429_160426_010
Smokey Bacon Bourbon Sticky Bones 4.5/5

Another one of their highlights - The Smokey Bacon Bourbon Sticky Bones (Half Slab $29.90, Full Slab $46.90) features a slab of tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, topped with a hearty, rich and smoky sauce infused with bourbon, hand-chopped bacon bits and strips of candied bacon. With a flavourous luscious coating atop the savoury meat, the dish displays the perfect balance of sweet and savoury.

Bread Pudding 4/5

End your meal on a sweet note with the Bread Pudding ($11.90). This comforting homemade bread pudding comes served with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream & whiskey sauce. A recommended dessert option for the alcoholics, as the whiskey sauce is very thick and rich in taste, that I feel might be a tad too overpowering for the dish.

IMG_20180429_160834_506
Chocolate Brownie 4.2/5

For chocolate lovers, try the Chocolate Brownie ($13.90) which comes in a fudgey chocolate and walnut brownie, and served warm with vanilla ice cream & chocolate sauce.

These limited time offers are available all day, every day from 30th April to 24th June. Make a date with your Mum and Dad to enjoy this special treat at Morganfield’s.

Note: The Candied Peach BBQ and Smoky Bacon Bourbon Sticky Bones are also available as part of the weekday Top Value Set Lunch promotion ($29.90), that comes with a free soup and drink.

Comida Mexicana @ East Coast Road - New Casual & Convivial Dining Concept By Margarita's

ComidaMexicana4

Same same but different that is exactly how I would describe Comida Mexicana at East Coast Road. Managed by the same folk behind Margarita's, the team has revamped its outlet in East Coast Road and created a new casual and convivial dining concept offering Mexican food which in Spanish is the name of the restaurant - Comida Mexicana.

ComidaMexicana8
Tortilla Chips with Dip 3.5/5

We started with some freshly made tortilla chips before dinner is served. At Comida Mexicana, you order the prefer choice of dip to go with the tortilla chips. There are a total of 4 different dips on the menu and we tried the Red Salsa ($6), Green Tomatillo Salsa ($7) and Chile Con Queso ($16). Most in the group likes the chile con queso or chilli with melted cheese while I actually enjoyed the green tomatillo salsa for its spicy kick.

ComidaMexicana10
Enrollados 3.8/5

The Enrollados ($18) is the Mexican popiah. The tortilla is rolled up with chicken, jalapenos and cheese stuffing. It is then coated with egg and deep fried. This is topped with fresh salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The doughy bite of the enrollados was quite enjoyable with the different flavours working in harmony.

ComidaMexicana14
Mash Avocado Sopes 3.8/5

Next we tried the Mash Avocado Sopes ($20) which is known to be originated from central and southern parts Mexico. The crackling and light fried masa base held the pile of mash aovcado for a textural enjoyment. I only hope the flavour has more punch in it.

ComidaMexicana17
Crab & Avocado Quesadillas 4/5

The Crab & Aocado Quesadillas ($28) is an off the menu creation. What made it worked was actually the creamy sauce of the crab mixture. It was surprisingly very delectable, complemented by the thin and crispy tortilla.

ComidaMexicana23
Carnitas 4/5

Next we tried the Carnitas ($32) which is Mexican pulled pork. It comes with warm corn tortillas, salsa rojas, salsa verde and guacamole. We are supposed to eat it like a wrap with a bit of everything. However I felt the corn tortilla was too thick, masking the appreciation of the dish. Credit has to go to the beautifully cooked pulled pork which is tender and flavourful. I actually ended up having the pulled pork without the corn tortilla.

ComidaMexicana26
Mexican Yucantan Chicken 4.5/5

A favourite dish among the dining group is the Mexican Yucantan Chicken ($28). The chicken skewers are spiced with achiote and orange. The tender and juicy chicken was extremely delicious with the sweet marination.

ComidaMexicana31
Salted Caramel Pina Colada Bread Pudding 4/5

A pleasing dessert to wrap up the dinner is the Salted Caramel Pina Colada Bread Pudding ($15). The play of hot and cold, sweet and savoury together with the soft bread pudding provided a delightful finishing for a lovely dessert.

ComidaMexicana29
Kahbrita 4.5/5

For coffee lover, not to be missed is the Kahbrita ($14). Similar to affogato, the dessert glass consists of Kahlua and a scoop of ice cream coated with Mexican chocolate. A shot of espresso is then poured over the dessert for a bitter sweet enjoyment.

ComidaMexicana1

Overall I find the place and food at Comida Mexicana is family friendly which suits its neighbour. However I find the Mexican food here a bit light handed. I thought Mexican food should be more vibrant in flavours.

SPRMRKT Daily and SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar @ Robertson Quay - Dine, Retail and Art Concept Under One Roof

20170507_115250_HDR

Whether or not you are into arts, museums and galleries, dining in places with strong arts affiliations tend to pepper the overall experience. If that's the case for you, you may enjoy SPRMRKT Daily and Kitchen & Bar at STPI-Workshop & Gallery, Robertson Quay. Situated right beside the river, the 2 storey building can't be more apt to house SPRMRKT's second establishment where it combines dining, retail and art space into one, all set to inspire the soul and mind of yours.

20170507_122059_HDR
Blackened Fish & Chips 3/5

At SPRMRKT Daily, we tried 2 of its menu's mainstays brought from its first establishment at McCallum Street. Blackened Fish & Chips ($20) with batter blackened by squid ink. Although I couldn't really taste the squid ink, I enjoyed its light and airy texture while the fish was kept moist. The sweet potato fries was moreish and its in-house slaw was even more so!

20170507_122444_HDR
Carbonara 3/5

The Carbonara ($20) was hearty with lots of bacon toasted for extra texture. Break that soft poached egg and you will get a velvety finish to the creamy sauce. We had the pasta sat for a while and the sauce flavoured with aged pamarsan seemed to have seeped deeper into the pasta, which was even better as it seemed to be a little too watery when it was served.

20170507_114241_HDR

While waiting for your food, spend some time at the retail section that has curated brands of similar values and virtues. You will find independent labels here with deep traditional and/or artisanal roots such as Cerana Honey (a producer of sustainable honey), Bruneus (the first retailer of activated nuts in Singapore), The Hunter’s Kitchenette (a maker of nut butter inspired by the hunter-gatherer lifestyle). What stood out for me while browsing is Chocolate Concierge, the first artisanal chocolate-maker focused on bringing the cocoa trade to Malaysia. Not because that their chocolate bars are exclusive to SPRMRKT, each bar of chocolate simply looks like a gift hand wrapped with a designer wrapper. Not just food, SPRMRKT also collaborates with Mmerciencore for their exclusive Mint Cream cleanser, and Kamilinen, who hand-stitched their staff's aprons! Even BooksActually found its way onto the shelf.

20170507_132846_HDR
Croque-Madame 3.5/5

On the second level of the space is SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar which offers a European bistro style menu. Our brunch started with the Croque-Madame ($20). Indeed, it was a french portion but its taste did surpass my expectation. Crispy Farmer's white with creamy and flavourful béchamel in between to harmonise the cheese and the meaty ham. The fried egg in panko breadcrumb crust was a delight too.

20170507_134252_HDR
Chicken Pot Pie 2.8/5

Unveiling what's underneath the puffy dome is always exciting of the Chicken Pot Pie ($18). In it we got a creamy mixture of chicken, potatoes and carrots. The base wasn't too creamy and dipping the pastry into it is like dipping a fluffy prata into curry. It was good but a thicker and richer base may enhances the experience a lot more. I also don't quite get that joy and happiness of eating a pot pie. Well it may be a personal thing.

20170507_131818_HDR
Smoked Chicken Ravioli 2.5/5

Smoked Chicken Ravioli ($22) Ravioli, like risotto is a challenging dish to handle. The skin, the filling and the proportion of both need to be rather precise. Perhaps, this dish needs more time.

20170507_135744_HDR
Weekend Roast 3.8/5

Saving the best for the last, our Weekend Roast ($34) was made up of 180g Pork Belly, homemade ricotta, Yorkshire pudding, mushrooms and vine-ripped tomatoes. No seasoning required when the meat itself was flavoured by its own melty fats lined with crispy skin. I love the homemade ricotta which lighten the meat like how yogurt does to meat. The accompanying mushrooms and tomatoes were leads in their own right.

20170507_141848_HDR
Bread & Butter Pudding 3.8/5

To round up our Sunday Brunch, I would say SPRMRKT's Bread & Butter Pudding ($10) did it. The taste of the sweet, buttery and flaky viennoiserie followed by the warm custard, juxtaposed against a fine classic vanilla ice cream, spells nothing but bliss for that moment. Yes, more ice cream please!
