This Lunar New Year, Peach Garden has launched a selection of carefully curated new menu items such as the "Heng Heng" Million Dollar Yu Sheng, together with premium dishes and traditional festive goodies. Orders can be made in-store and online from 5 January to 26 February 2021. Renowned for its authentic Cantonese-style cuisine and impeccable quality of Chinese cooking, Peach Garden is especially known for the quality of its Yu Sheng and Pen Cai dishes.

"Heng Heng" Million Dollar Yu Sheng 4.5/5

Toss to an auspicious year with their latest "Heng Heng" Million Dollar Yu Sheng (百万捞生). It features a golden dome encasing a bed of Yu Sheng ingredients that include premium toppings such as Lobster, Baby Abalone, Wagyu Beef and Salmon. Smash the dome open with a mini hammer, and the cracker shatters to reveal the colourful array of fresh ingredients as well as big sweep tickets for a chance to get lucky in the new year.

Only available for dine-in, this Yu Sheng centrepiece comes in 2 sizes: Small ($168++ serves 4 pax), and Large ($268++ serves 8 pax). There is a non-beef alternative with Australian Scallops in place of Wagyu Beef.

Double-Boiled Essence of Chicken Soup with Stuffed Fish Maw 4.2/5

Next, we had their Double-Boiled Essence of Chicken Soup, which arrives with a tiny flame below the pot to keep it warm. The nourishing soup is intense in flavour, well-packed with the chicken's essence after hours of boiling. It is a well-executed bowl of soup that we enjoyed very much.

Peach Garden Mala Seafood Pen Cai 4.2/5

Peach Garden spices up the traditional Pen Cai with their new Peach Garden Mala Seafood Pen Cai, which serves 6 pax. The pot is filled with luxurious ingredients such as lobster, red grouper, sea cucumber, Australian scallop, prawns, fish maw, and king oyster mushrooms. They are infused with a fragrant in-house mala spice and layered upon one another for a medley of flavours.

Roasted Golden Suckling Pig 4/5

The majestic Roasted Golden Suckling Pig comes with mahogany, crisp skin and sticky-tender meat. We were served pieces of crackling skin, accompanied with thin slices of soft mantou buns, sweet sauce and crunchy green onion.

Traditional Steamed Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausages 4/5

The piping hot and delicious bowl of Traditional Steamed Claypot Rice was a welcoming end to the main courses. Well-flavoured and filled with a generous amount of lup cheong, you can taste the fragrance of the ingredients infused with the subtle burnt aroma.

Double-boiled Tang Yuan Eight Treasures and Tian Shan Bird's Nest in Young Coconut 4/5

Complete the Lunar New Year meal with their traditional desserts such as the Double-boiled Tang Yuan Eight Treasures and Tian Shan Bird's Nest in Young Coconut. The dessert is served warm in a coconut husk, adding a refreshing coconut flavour to the comforting bird nest soup.

Black & White Sesame Nian Gao 3.8/5

A must-have delicacy for the Chinese New Year, the Black & White Sesame Nian Gao is soft and chewy with a very subtle hint of black sesame.

Reunion Imperial High Tea Set At Tian Fu Tea Room at PARKROYAL Beach Road

Tian Fu Tea Room at PARKROYAL on Beach Road is a fully dedicated tearoom serving premium Chinese tea, with a wide selection of over 30 varieties of fine tea which you can enjoy with handcrafted dim sum. Each Lunar New Year, a specially crafted high tea set menu is offered for you to celebrate the new year in a different manner. Reunion Imperial High Tea (团圆宫廷下午茶) for this year is available from 13 January to 9 February 2020.

The Reunion Imperial High Tea Set comprising 8 handcrafted dim sum items and a tea of your choice A Yusheng is included as well, customised to the party size.

Other than emphasizing the colours of each exquisite dimsum, 'cuteness' level is equally important to pipued your appetite. Steamed Pumpkin with Yam Cake was vibrant with a layer of pumpkin sandwiched between yam and sweet potato, and every bite was a combination of sweet and savouriness. The Deep-fried Spring Roll with Minced Prawns and Mushrooms are made skinny to resemble 上上签, the divinatory sticks. That was rather creative I thought. Steamed Dumpling with Diced Abalone and Minced Meat was cute but letdown by its unpleasant thick and doughy skin.

Steamed Siew Mai with Scallop was a luxurious interpretation of our common siew mai. Encased within the emerald skin is prawns, topped with a whole scallop that was sweet and succulent. The Ebiko provides the right jab of saltiness to the siew mai.

Deep-fried Crispy Dumpling with Foie Gras was quite delectable with its flaky pastry crust, but the filling made with diced lotus didn't quite gel with the crust. While I was expecting something creamy or buttery since the menu stated foie gras, the filling was rather chunky and the foie gras was more like an afternote which tasted slightly odd to me.

Homemade Rainbow Noodles with Fresh Prawn was beautiful with noodles that are naturally coloured with ingredients such as beetroot, spinach etc.

The highlight for me is the sweets - Deep-fried Dumpling with Sticky Rice Pancake. I love the mochi-like sweet potato crust and the sticky rice pancake encased within was soft with just the right amount of sweetness, definitely one of the best Niao Gao delights I have tasted so far. Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Ginger Soup was comforting, and the red bean filling wasn't too sweet either. Despite all the items above, I felt I could stomach a few more of these sweets!

I like the privacy of the Tea Room. The cosiness of the Tea Room is also one of the reasons for you to visit with your loved ones and sip the afternoon away with quality catch-up over the Dim Sum and premium teas. The Reunion Imperial High Tea is priced at $40 per person, available from 230pm to 5pm.

Celebrate The Lunar New Year With Baba Chews Bar & Eatery @ Hotel Indigo

With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, there is no better time than now to make plans for an abundant and hearty reunion dinner with your loved ones. Nestled in Katong and an occupant of the former Joo Chiat Police station, Baba Chews Bar & Eatery is an all-dining restaurant imbued with contemporary Peranakan elements, and plays a modern fusion to its selection of traditional cuisine from the Straits of Malacca, western favourites and local delights. This festive season, diners can relish in a scrumptious set menu specially curated for reunion dinner on 15 Feb 2018 to usher in the Year of the Dog.

Baba Salmon Yu Sheng 4.5/5

As with all Lunar New Year reunion dinners, we start off the meal with the classic Baba Salmon Yu Sheng ($48/$68) which comes in a platter of assorted vegetables and ingredients including the pickled radish, cucumber, pineapple, sweet turnip, corn flakes, and generous salmon slices. A tangy home-made kaffir lime plum sauce is poured over the Yu Sheng before tossing to good fortune and health.

Hee Piow Ting 4/5

Also known as the Paranakan-styled Fish Maw Soup, the Hee Piow Ting ($16 per bowl) comes with pork meatballs, fish maw and cabbage. While the minced meats in the meatballs boast a soft and tender texture, the pork-based soup has a rich but balanced flavour which makes for a comforting dish to have before the mains are served.

Red Garoupa Tempra Style 4.2/5

The Red Garoupa Tempra Style ($88) features a fried red garoupa fish with peranakan onion and chilli sauce. While the sauce adds a tinge of spice to the dish, it is not spicy and packs a rich savoury flavour to the fish, which retains a soft and moist texture beneath its crispy skin.

“Lobster” Carrot Cake 4.5/5

A local all-time favourite, the “Lobster” Carrot Cake features a stir-fried Singapore style carrot cake with a soft chewy texture and a taste familiar to many. The addition of lobster and silver fish brings a unique upgrade to the dish, elevating its entire taste with a subtle hint of crustacean sweetness from the lobster and saltiness from the silver fish.

“Ong Lai” Noodle 4/5

The “Ong Lai” Noodle comes in a bowl of sauteed tumeric noodle coated with generous amounts of curry cream sauce, and served with seafood and chopped abalone. The robust piquancy from the curry cream sauce is by no means an easy feat, while the addition of seafood and chopped abalone lends a refreshing zing to the edging spice flavour.

Pulut Hitam with Sesame Dumplings 4.2/5

One of the quintessential traditional desserts, the Pulut Hitam with Sesame Dumplings is a must-have to end off the meal on a sweet note. The black glutinous dessert soup is thick, gooey, and packed full of goodness. A gentle bite on the delicate skin of the dumpling oozes out a fragrant black sesame lava which is simply pure indulgence.

During Chinese New Year, most eateries and restaurants will be closed to celebrate the festive occasion. You will be glad to know that Baba Chews Bar and Eatery will be open throughout the Chinese New Year Holidays. From 16 to 18 February 2018, look forward to a sumptuous Chinese New Year a la carte buffet brunch ($42++ per adult) with a pantry laden with delights such as Seared Tuna Ahi, Prawn Shooters and Smoked Sea-Caught Fish from the chiller, a soup pot of Bakwan Kepiting, D.I.Y. Rojak and Kueh Pie Tee as well as desserts like the restaurant’s signature Nangka Cheesecake, Durian Mousse with Gula Melaka, Lychee Crème Brulee, Salted Egg Kaya Macaroons, assorted Chinese New Year cookies and many more.

Further complementing the spread in the pantry are the Baba Chew’s all-you-can-order menu of 12 mains, cooked a la minute. The season’s highlights include: Lobster Carrot Cake – stir-fried Singapore style carrot cake with lobster and silver fish; Conpoy Glutinous Rice – stir-fried glutinous rice with ‘lap mei’ (waxed meat), mushroom, dried shrimps and dried scallops; Chef Alvin’s special “Ong Lai” Noodles - sautéed turmeric noodles with curry cream sauce, served with seafood and chopped abalone; Tempura Niao Gow – fried glutinous rice cake drizzled with yuzu caramel sauce; just to list a few.

Ultimate Rice Dumpling Listing 2016

Dragon Boat Festival or Duan Wu Jie (端午节) is just around the corner on 9 June 2016. It is celebrated in Singapore in events like dragon boat race as well as eating rice dumplings.
