Diverging from the usual Yusheng offerings, Yan introduces the "Shun De" style - a cascade of crispy vermicelli adorned with shredded purple and yellow sweet potatoes, pickled ginger, and gold flakes. Embracing the Year of the Dragon, the restaurant introduces the Kaleidoscope of Prosperity Yusheng in "Shun De" Style with Australian Lobster ($238/$418), where the Mandarin term for lobster, directly translating to "dragon shrimp," symbolises the auspicious year.

This Lunar New Year, Si Chuan Dou Hua at PARKROYAL on Beach Road welcomes the Year of the Rabbit with exclusive Lunar New Year dishes and set menus catering to a variety of family and group sizes starting from two persons. There is even a vegetarian menu for those looking to go meatless.

Abundance Treasures Yu Sheng 4/5

Si Chuan Dou Hua at PARKROYAL on Beach Road premieres its first-ever Abundance Treasures Yu Sheng featuring a combination of its Signature La Zi Ji (diced chicken with dried chilli), Abalone and Smoked Salmon. Surprisingly the combination works.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-9
Double-boiled Chicken Broth 4/5

The hearty bowl of Double-boiled Chicken Broth with Sea Cucumber, Matsutake Mushroom and Dried Scallop is boiled over 4 hours, extracting the essence of the ingredients for a sweet and earthy finish.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-10
King Garoupa with Fresh Sichuan Peppercorn 5/5

The crowd's favourite goes to the King Garoupa with Fresh Sichuan Peppercorn and Julienne-cut Chinese Lettuce on a Sea of Spring Onions. The fish fillet comes with a punchy heat and distinctive numbing spice fragranced by the Sichuan peppercorn. It was so good that I was silently screaming for more. It is an exclusive outlet dish at Si Chuan Dou Hua, PARKROYAL on Beach Road.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-12
Braised Bird's Nest with Fresh Fish Maw in Crab Meat Sauce 4.2/5

Another beautiful dish on the menu is the Braised Bird's Nest with Fresh Fish Maw in Crab Meat Sauce. It is thick, rich and creamy with immense umami flavours.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-18
Braised 8-headed Abalone with Hangzhou-style Pork Belly 4.5/5

Not to be missed is the Braised 8-headed Abalone with Hangzhou-style Pork Belly accompanied with Seasonal Vegetables. The pork belly is so soft and tender, falling apart with ease while the abalone provides the contrasting springy texture.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-23
Braised Lobster with Fish Paste Noodles in Superior Stock 4/5

Another outlet-exclusive dish is the Braised Lobster with Fish Paste Noodles in Superior Stock. The highlight is the springy fish paste noodles paired with juicy lobster.

SichuanDouHuaCNY23-27
Pan-fried Auspicious Nian Gao and Bunny-shaped Milk Pudding 3/5

Lastly, we had the Pan-fried Auspicious Nian Gao and Bunny-shaped Milk Pudding, ending the meal on a sweet note. Unfortunately, the dessert is not as good as the savoury items.

Da Paolo Pizza Bar @ Holland Village - Toss To An Auspicious Lunar New Year With The Unique Lo Hei Pizza

IMG_2285

In conjunction with the Lunar New Year, Da Paolo Pizza Bar at Holland Village has launched a unique Lo Hei Pizza. Available all day, from now till 31 January 2023, for dine-in only. The Lo Hei Pizza combines both the spirit of their pizza and the celebratory dish, featuring a colourful medley of julienned vegetables and seafood atop a freshly baked mozzarella cheese pizza base.

IMG_2295
Lo Hei Pizza

The base of the artisanal thin-crust pizza is made with Da Paolo's proprietary pizza dough recipe, where the dough is leavened for 48 hours, hand-stretched, and then stone-baked in the oven. Lo Hei Pizza ($58) is a pizza bianca in which a white base is chosen to pair with the yu sheng topping. Atop the mozzarella cheese pizza base is a combination of crunchy vegetables such as carrot, daikon, and celery, as well as piquant house-pickled red cabbage for some acidity. The seafood topping includes succulent raw Hokkaido scallops and citrusy house-cured Atlantic salmon slices. Binding the ingredients and the pizza dough together is a homemade plum sauce with some extra crunch and nuttiness from white sesame seeds, crushed peanuts, and crispy rice paper.

IMG_2311
Lobster Bisque Fried Croquettes 4/5

After tossing to an auspicious new year, we had a couple of starters from the menu - Lobster Bisque Fried Croquettes ($18) and Buratta & Prosciutto ($30). The croquettes were very robust in flavour and not too creamy despite the addition of bechamel cream. I like how the piquillo sauce gave it a touch of peppery and fruity sweetness to balance its flavours.

IMG_2274
Burrata & Prosciutto 4/5

Burrata & Prosciutto ($30) is an evergreen item here. With the burrata so plump, fresh and creamy, I can see why.

IMG_2304
Spicy Lobster Tagliolini 4.5/5

We also had the Spicy Lobster Tagliolini ($36), a lip-smacking delicious pasta dish on the menu with a full-bodied tomato sauce spiced up with garlic and chilli, accented with occasional bust of sweetness from blistered tomatoes. I love the chunky slipper lobster too!

IMG_2325
Tiramisu 4/5

For dessert, we had the signature Da Paolo's Tiramisu. It is good for two, but one can easily polish it clean.

Five Blessings Lo Hei

One of my favourite Yu Sheng this year has to go to Min Jiang's Five Blessing Lo Hei ($298), which comes with lobster, abalone, salmon, Hokkaido scallop, and crispy salted egg yolk fish skin. The magnificent Yu Sheng is adorned with a beautiful illustration of two rabbits in a bamboo forest, personally hand-painted by Master Chef Chan Hwan Kee of Min Jiang. The invigorating dressing of plum sauce, strawberry jam, calamansi juice, lime, ginger flower buds, chilli padi, garlic and onion bound everything today for a sweet, tangy and refreshing finish.

MinJiangCNY22-39

New festive takeaways this Lunar New Year at Min Jiang include the Five Fortune Appetiser Platter ($192.25) comprising Chilled Mini Abalone, Deep-fried Prawn, Jellyfish, Barbecued Iberico Char Siew and Boxing Chicken.

Double-boiled Abalone Soup with Handmade Dace Fish Balls and Matsutake Mushrooms in Claypot

Another takeaway favourite of mine at Min Jiang is the Double-boiled Abalone Soup with Handmade Dace Fish Balls and Matsutake Mushrooms in Claypot ($321.65). A good change from the usual richly flavoured dishes, yet comforting and heart-warming with fragrant sweetness imparted from boiling chicken and dried sole fish. The treasure pot features luxurious ingredients such as whole abalones, fried eel fish maw, deep-fried handmade dace fish balls with black moss, conch meat, matsutake mushrooms and radish.

Min Jiang at Dempsey did not lose out in their festive takeaway offerings either. The Braised Pork Belly, Minced Pork Ball with Quail Egg, Chicken Roll and Sea Treasures in Pot ($429.85) comes with the pot when delivered. The highlight of the robust dish is the succulent pork belly that is slow-cooked with aromatics and chicken broth for two and a half hours, followed by steaming for three hours. It is a delicious but painstakingly prepared dish.
