Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie @ Momentus Hotel Alexandra - A Spanish-inspired Festive Buffet Dinner

IMG_9937

Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie at Momentus Hotel Alexandra celebrates this yuletide season with you with a Spanish-inspired Christmas Feast. Alongside festive favourites with a dinner buffet, this feast occurs every Friday and Saturday, including public holidays from 15 to 31 December 2023.

IMG_9972

The highlight for me is definitely the free-flow of Jamon Iberico de Bellota, carved straight off from the ham's leg. Rich and savoury with a luscious mouthfeel, it's perfect with aperitivo of Sangria de Bienvenida that's being offered.

Ala carte free-flowing tapas are served upon order - Albondigas Spiced Spanish Meatballs, Gambas al Ajillo Garlic Prawns, Pimentos de Padron Fried Green Peppers, Puntillitas Fritas Baby Squid Fritters with Aioli and Croquetas de Jamon Serrano Spanish Ham. The moriesh Puntillitas Fritas Baby Squid Fritters is a must-try!

Cochinillo Spanish Roast Suckling Pig

If you drop by on 24 and 31 December 2023, the Live Action Station will also offer a whole Cochinillo Spanish Roast Suckling Pig. Crispy skin with tender meat and the rarity of being offered on a buffet will make your trip here worthwhile.

In addition to the regular roasts, the Live Action Station is packed with even more mouthwatering items - Crackling Porchetta with Truffle & Herb Stuffing, 75°C Slow-roasted Whole Lamb Leg and a classic Grain Mustard & Honey-Glazed Gammon Ham.

IMG_9930

Their signature Spit-Roasted Rotisserie Chicken and the Australian Wagyu Tomahawk are still available. From 1 to 31 December 2023, receive a complimentary salad and fruit cake when you order any two festive roasts.

Cured Salmon Terrine

Seafood on Ice is also more beefed up with Boston Lobster, Pacific Oysters, Poached Sea Prawns and Sea Whelk. The cold larder counter includes a specially crafted Cured Salmon Terrine alongside the regular Charcuterie Board and Antipasti.

IMG_9920
Hand-stretched Wood-fired Sourdough Pizzas

The Hand-stretched Wood-fired Sourdough Pizzas also have Spanish-inspired flavours, such as Ham & Manchego Cheese and Chorizo Diablo.

The Hot Mains offers comforting and hearty dishes such as Live Bouchot Mussels in White Wine Saffron Sauce and Beer Braised Beef Brisket, which pair well with the Valencian Seafood Paella.

IMG_9918
Churros

The desserts didn't quite delight as much as the mains, although Spanish specialities are being offered, such as Turron de Jijona and Spanish Crema Catalana, which are very much on the sweeter side. The Churros is the one to go for.

The Marmalade Pantry @ Anchorpoint - New Outlet With New Menu-exclusives And Retail Items

IMG_4976

The Marmalade Pantry has recently launched a new outlet at Anchorpoint. For a limited time until 31 August 2023, you get to enjoy new menu-exclusive Anchorpoint Specials alongside the familiar classics of the restaurant.

IMG_4929
Fried Artichoke with Lemon Ricotta 4/5

From the outlet's exclusive menu, we started with Fried Artichoke with Lemon ($20). The Polenta-coated fried artichokes were crisped on the outside, with some of the inner petals remaining succulent and tender. The cold and zesty ricotta provided a cool and creamy contrast to the crispy artichoke.

IMG_4941
Tortilla with Mesclun Salad 3.8/5

The next appetiser was Tortilla with Mesclun Salad ($16) that was goozy within, loaded with deep-fried cubed potatoes, flavourful diced Spanish Chorizo and sweet caramelised onions. The dollop of soy-based garlic aioli added a subtle tanginess to the tortilla and further enriched the mouth feel of the dish.

IMG_4952
Pork Cheek and Carrot Puree 3.5/5

For mains, we had Pork Cheek and Carrot Puree ($28), served with roasted cabbage, tamarind, and ginger carrot puree. The texture of the braised pork cheek could be more tender, but overall they were nicely flavoured and enjoyable. A notable element of this dish is the sweet-sour tamarind and ginger carrot puree, which helped cut through the meat's richness.

IMG_4954
Black Pepper Seafood Spaghetti 4/5

Black Pepper Seafood Spaghetti ($29) stood out with all elements done right. The black pepper sauce made with Sarawak black pepper was punchy, and the charred capsicum's fruity sweetness brought out the succulent seafood's sweetness. The seafood was at their right doneness with a good bounce, and the al dente spaghetti was a very satisfying plate of food.

IMG_4957
Duck Ragu Pappardelle 3.8/5

Duck Ragu Pappardelle ($30) was hearty with a tantalising combination of flavours - plump, sweet tomatoes punctuating the deep and rich flavours of the balsamic braised duck. The large surface of the pappardelle and its relatively rough texture made it ideal for such a robust ragu. However, the texture of the pasta could have been better.

IMG_4983
Kimchi Steak Fried Rice 3.8/5

A mainstay on the menu, Kimchi Fried Rice served with Argentinian Grass-Fed Sirloin Steak, 100g ($28) is a dish that excites the palate. The steamed rice was mouthwatering with soy sauce, sesame oil and fiery with chilli. The plancha-grilled sirloin steak had rich beefy notes, which complemented the bold flavours of the kimchi rice. However, some fresh elements as garnishes would help give this dish a more well-rounded taste.

IMG_4990
Honeycomb Poached Pear 3.8/5

The outlet's exclusive dessert is Honeycomb Poached Pear ($16). The pear was made by poaching it in an aromatic ginger flower syrup. While I wished the flavour of the ginger flower could be more pronounced, it was tender and not overly sweet. The accompanying whipped mascarpone provided a decadent creaminess, while the unassuming honeycomb gave a delectable crunch and sweetness.

ViewDee Thai Bistro & Bar @ Sprout Hub - Great Chill Out Place With Delicious Thai Food At Former Henderson Secondary School

ViewDee12

Taking over the space at Sprout Hub is ViewDee Thai Bistro & Bar, transforming the former Henderson Secondary School's canteen into little Thailand with neo lights and stalls selling Thai-centric cuisine. The huge and airy premise is an excellent location for chilling out with friends over drinks and delicious Thai food. The huge selection of Thai dishes also caters for a hearty family dinner.

ViewDee14
Signature Lobster Tom Yum Mama 4/5

Great for sharing is the Signature Lobster Tom Yum Mama ($48.80). Besides the majestic lobster, there is other seafood, such as squid, mussels and clams. It is very enjoyable. However, the tom yum soup was too sweet. A bit more balance in the soup would be preferred. There is even a hearty seafood porridge version that is ideal for the rainy weather.

ViewDee34
Royal Thai Fish Head Hot Pot 4.5/5

Something uncommon on the menu is the Royal Thai Fish Head Hot Pot ($48.80). The creamy soup base is packed with robust flavour, complemented by ingredients such as tofu, mushrooms, seafood and yam and vegetable. It is non-spicy, hearty and comforting.

ViewDee27
Green Papaya Salad $11.80

Besides the sharing tom yum mama and hotpot, the kitchen woks up an eclectic selection of Thai dishes. We started with the Green Papaya Salad ($11.80), whetting the appetite. The sharp flavours and the salad's crunchy texture make it an appetising starter.

ViewDee28
Waterfall Deep Fried Pork Belly 4.5/5

The Waterfall Deep Fried Pork Belly ($15.80) is a favourite of mine and the dining group. The deep-fried pork belly is succulent and crispy on the skin. However, the soul of the dish goes to the sweet, sour and spicy sauce that elevates the taste profile to a whole new level.

ViewDee11
Thai Style Kang Kong 4.2/5

ViewDee7
Basil Minced Pork 4.2/5

The Thai Style Kang Kong ($12.80) and Basil Minced Pork ($15.80) are two items I often order at a Thai restaurant. Both are well executed in the way I like. I understand Thai chefs cook the dishes, and they don't hold back or tone down the flavours. That is why I enjoyed their cooking.

ViewDee20
Thai Style Steamed Seabass 3.8/5

Another dish I enjoyed is the Thai Style Steamed Seabass ($38.80). The fish was moist and fresh, cooked in a sweet, sour and spicy sauce, the characteristic flavours in Thai cuisine. However, being picky, the chef is slightly heavy-handed on the sweetness.

ViewDee44
Flaming Pork Knuckle 3.5/5

The Flaming Pork Knuckle ($38.80) made an impressive entrance lighted in flame. Served bone-in, it is crispy on the skin with fork-tender meat. It comes with three dipping sauces for full enjoyment.

ViewDee4
Tom Yum Seafood Pizza 2.5/5

The menu even includes western fare, such as pizza and burgers. We tried the Tom Yum Seafood Pizza ($19.80). The flavours reconciled with me, but I was not fond of the dough. It tastes like instant dough.

ViewDee3
Beer Gao

ViewDee Thai Bistro & Bar is a great place to chill over delicious Thai food. Besides the usual beer tower or liquors, you can get Beer Gao here, a combo of Stout and Lager.

Musette Cafe @ Thye Hong Centre - Brunch Classics With An Asian Flair And Sweets From Kōbō by Melissa

IMG_1946

Musette, located at Thye Hong Centre, is a casual bistro that serves brunch classics with an Asian flair. Kōbō by Melissa also resides within Musette, providing diners with her signature creations of cakes and pastries using Japanese techniques.

IMG_1942
Breakfast Sando 4.5/5

A more exciting brunch item on the menu, and is also one of Musette's signatures, is the Breakfast Sando ($19). Packing the breakfast essentials between 2 toasted fluffy white bread with evenly brown crusts, well-grilled smoked bacon, soft scrambled egg and slices of wholesome avocado bound together by oozy cheddar cheese and chipotle sauce. There were also some finely chopped pickles to lend some acidity to its richness. And what also made it such a delicious sando were the two fluffy slices of bread that come with evenly brown buttery crusts, lightly toasted with butter to enhance their toasty notes.

IMG_1909
Shakshuka 3.5/5

Shakshuka ($18.00) is a new brunch item. While I love the bold and robust tomato sauce, which makes a good Shakshuka, it is more cohesive as a dish without the Chicken sausage by the side. It seems awkward to me.

IMG_1914
Spicy Crab Rigatoni 3/5

Under Mains, we tried the Spicy Crab Rigatoni. This rendition will hit the right spot if you like yours with a good amount of heat. However, the saltish tobiko works better with mild flavours instead of layering such highly flavoured dish with even more savouriness.

IMG_1931
Kale & Avocado Salad 3.5/5

Kale & Avocado Salad ($18) comes with a heap of Fried Kale which sits well even with non-greens lovers. The sweet and citrusy Honey Thyme dressing complimented the bitter greens and sharp feta cheese.

IMG_1932
Kaya Butter Roll 5/5

IMG_1962
Tiramisu 4/5

On your visit, you must give Kōbō cakes here a try! The Kaya Butter Roll ($8) is simply divine. Nothing was overpowering or overly sweet, which allowed the pandan flavour to come through. The pandan cake roll was light, soft and fluffy, and the aromatic kaya inside enhanced that pandan flavour, leaving a lingering pandan scent on my palette. In addition, the light French butter stick embedded within added a creamy mouthfeel to the cake, which elevated the overall experience.

2280 Burger @ Henderson Industrial Park - Gourmet Burgers By BurgerLabo

2280Burger7

Hidden in Henderson Industrial Park is a burger restaurant, 2280 Burger, by the same people behind Burger Labo and Naked Finn. The name of the burger place 2280 comes from the four-digit code of the beef neck cut used in their beef patty. I had difficulty finding the place because its exterior looked different from a restaurant but more like an interior design house.

2280Burger10
2280 Burger Double

There are only three burgers on the menu - 2280 Burger Single ($9.50), 2280 Burger Double ($13.50) and Blue Cod Burger Single ($15). I decided to go for the 2280 Burger Double that comes with two hand-shaped beef patties, pickled onions, melted cheese, and shio kombu mayonnaise in between two buttered and fluffy buns.

2280Burger2

The beef patty, which uses grass-fed Aberdeen Angus beef and Kuroge Washu from Toriyama Umami Wagyu, is a juicy stack of deliciousness further elevated by condiments coming together beautifully.

2280Burger3
2280 Burger Double & Blue Cod Burger Single

We also tried the Blue Cod Burger, which is more expensive than the beef burgers. It is a delicious burger, but we could not overcome the psychological barrier that it tastes exactly like McDonald's Fillet-O-Fish.
