Suki Thai Steamboat and Thai Cuisine @ Golden Mile Complex

IMG_8197ed

Suki Thai Steamboat and Thai Cuisine is the latest addition in Golden Mile Complex. The month old restaurant serves not only Thai Steamboat but also Mookata as well as some authentic Thai dishes. Suki Thai offers both set menu as well as a la carte dishs for its Thai steamboat and mookata.

Thai Steamboat 4.2/5

The Thai Steamboat comes in two soup base, Chicken and Tom Yum. Among the group, we seems to prefer the tom yum more than the chicken soup base. The sour-spicy broth seems to be even more tastier after cooking the ingredient in it, infusing all the essence.

Mookata 4/5

Suki Thai started off with only steamboat has since introduced Mookata on their menu after feedback from patrons. The beauty of dining at Suki Thai, especially in a big group, you get to enjoy both the Thai Steamboat as well as the Mookata.

All in One Combo Set Menu

As Suki Thai is still new, they are also still adjusting their food offering as well as the pricing, gathering feedback from patrons. On the combo set menu they have the Vegetable Combo ($14.90), Meat Combo ($24.50) and Seafood Combo ($29.50). To be competitive, Suki Thai has since introduced the All in One Combo Set Menu ($40) which comes with everything; seafood, meat and vegetable. It is really value for money.

Kurobota Pork

Suki Thai also offers some selection of premium items on the menu such as the Wagyu Beef ($22), Kurobota Pork ($22), Baby Abalone ($26) and Canadian Big Scallop ($16). I like the fact that the meat at Suki Thai is not thinly sliced, which comes with a nice bite.

IMG_8199ed
Jade Noodle 4.2/5

The ala care items at Suki Thai comes in different coloured code which determines the pricing starting from $2.50 per plate. One item not to be missed in the Jade Noodle which is the same noodle served in MK Steamboat in Thailand. This is like your wanton mee noodle served cooked. It is super springy and so good that I can eat on its own.

Crispy Fish Skin 3/5

Thai Fishcake and Cheese Hotdog 3.5/5

The thing about having steamboat or mookata is to wait for the soup to boil and then cooking the ingredients. Sometimes the wait is just too long for the hungry stomach. Worry not as Suki Thai also offers some delectable light snacks and food to fill up the stomach first such as the Crispy Fish Skin, Thai Fishcake and Cheese Hotdog.

IMG_8181ed
Mango Salad 4/5

We also asked the kitchen to prepare for us a plate of Mango Salad the "real" Thai way without tuning down for the local palate. Instantly I can taste Thailand burning in my mouth, it was so fiery that I felt I was knocked out by a muay thai boxer.

Besides the trio offering of Thai Steamboat, Mookata and Thai cuisine at Suki Thai, I like the spacious spacing at Suki Thai compare to the the other restaurants in golden mile complex. Having steamboat and mookata can be quite a sweaty event. The air conditioned and spacious spacing means no more squeezing and sharing tables with strangers.

Huber's Deli @ Pasarbella (The Grandstand)

IMG_2627ed

Inspired by other global markets around the world, Pasarbella at The Grandstand is set up to offer a one stop food and lifestyle experience under one roof. Nestled in the 30,000 square feet market square is Huber's Deli that offers freshly made sausages in a bread roll or sandwiches. The concept reminds me of Victoria Market in Melbourne where one can do their marketing and have a quick bite after that.

IMG_2630ed

The sausages at Huber's Deli comes in a convenient takeaway box. The sausage is also cut into half for easy consume.

IMG_2644ed
Spicy Pork 4.2/5

After browsing the menu, the Spicy Pork ($9.90) caught my attention. I felt in love with sauerkraut in my previous trip to Germany and since then I could not resist having anything that comes with it. The pork sausage came with a hint of spiciness, with the sour sauerkraut and salty bacon bits lending a balance to the delightful bite. Not only is the sausage freshly made, the baguette too. It was also crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.

IMG_2645ed
Chicken Cheese 4/5

The Chicken Cheese ($9.90) is more tender texture compare to the pork sausage. The coating of melted cheese on the chicken sausage gave it a nice buttery and saltiness to fully enjoy the bread roll

For shuttle bus service to The Grandstand, frequency is every 1 hour interval.

Backyard @ Dempsey

IMG_6003

Backyard@Dempsey is a casual and comfort restaurant and bar amidst the lush and mature greenery nature just off the Dempsey catchment of F&B establishments. The nook in the woods is a relaxing haven for the frazzled and for those seeking a brief respite from the everyday hustle of Singapore.

IMG_6010
Cream of Shitake Mushroom 3.8/5

I enjoyed the Cream of Shitake Mushroom ($6.30) that came with slices of shitake mushroom giving it texture and flavour.

IMG_6016
Lobster Bisque 3.5/5

I could tasted the roasted lobster flavour in the Lobster Bique ($7.30) but I would prefer it to be more creamy.

IMG_6018
Ayam Goreng Kunyit 4.5/5

When the Ayam Goreng Kunyit ($2.10 per pc) was served, I already could smell the aroma of the spices. We were pleasantly surprised that such Malay style chicken marinated in turmeric and cumin is served at Backyard@Dempsey. A best try.

IMG_6026
Spam Fries 4.2/5

Actually I have no clue what is Spam Fries ($9.80) until I bite into it. Instantly fell in love with the luncheon meat fries! This is my first time having them and I hope I don't sound like a mountain tortise.

IMG_6032
Spinach Salad with Marinated Chick Peas & Feta with Grilled Chicken 3.8/5

The Spinach Salad with Marinated Chick Peas & Feta with Grilled Chicken ($14.30) is a lovely combination of fresh and healthy ingredients.

IMG_6042
Kronenbourg Beer Battered Fish & Chips 4.2/5

Two types of Fish & Chips are available at Backyard@Dempsey, the bread crumbled and beer battered. Han, the owner told us the best beer battered fish is from Guinness Stout but the appearance is not presentable. The Kroenbourg Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($14.30) is the next best. Golden brown and crispy outside while fresh and moist inside.

IMG_6043
Pomodoro Sausage Linguine 4.5/5

The pasta at Backyard@Dempsey is quite special. I would labelled it as semi dry version with a nice amount of sauce coating the linguine. It also has a nice balance of tomato and cream sauces making the Pomodoro Sausage Linguine ($12.80) very delectable.

IMG_6053
Grilled Chicken Spaghetti 4.2/5

Like the Pomodoro Sausage Linguine, the Grilled Chicken Spaghetti ($12.80) is cream base but same semi dry version with the right amount of sauce coating the spaghetti. Both the pastas were as good except that I preferred tomato base sauce.

IMG_6047
US Black Angus Prime Ribeye 250g 4.2/5

This may not be Wagyu Beef but the US Black Angus Prime Ribeye 250g ($45.80) was just as good. The lovely beef was nicely grilled and fork tender. The ribeye was already flavourful without any sauces. Nevertheless you can still request for topping such as truffle salt ($2.80), blue cheese ($2.30), sauteed onions ($1.20) or sauteed shitake ($2.80). I tried the truffle salt with the ribeye and it enhanced the flavour even more.

IMG_6050
Shroom Burger 4.2/5

The Shroom Burger ($13.80) was topped with shitake mushrooms sauteed in a special herbed mozzarella brown sauce. The patty may not look appetising but it was packed with flavours and juiciness. Definitely one of the better burgers I have tried.

IMG_6061
Dressed Up Dog 4.2/5

Dressed up indeed it was. The Dressed Up Dog ($14.80) was all dressed up with bacon, melted cheddar cheese and a sunny side up egg. We had the giant chicken hot dog as some in the group does not take beef. The owner told me that giant beef frank will be more flavourful with the combo.

IMG_6069
Affogato 4.2/5

Being both a coffee and ice cream lover, I just can't fault the Affogato ($7.30) that is shot of espresso served over a scoop of clotted cream ice cream. As per what I have shared with the owner, I have affogato elsewhere where it is more elegantly presented.

IMG_6074
Blueberry Panna Cotta 4/5

I don't really know how to appreciate panna cotta but I do enjoy the silky smooth lightness of Blueberry Panna Cotta ($7.30).

IMG_6076
Honey Walnut Panna Cotta 4/5

Besides blueberry panna cotta, Backyard@Dempsey also serves Honey Walnut Panna Cotta ($7.30) if you prefer stronger flavours.

Most of the F&B establishments are located at the hill top of dempsey and it is rather inconvenient for people that do not drive. Backyard@Dempsey is conveniently located within walking distance from the bus stop opposite Gleneagles Hospital. For car owners, Backyard@Dempsey has plenty of free parking lots too.

Thank you for Han, Val and Jerome for the invitation and hospitality.
