Wang Dae Bak Charcoal Grill BBQ @ China Square Central - Authentic Charcoal Grilled Korean Barbecue

WangDaeBak19

Wang Dae Bak Charcoal Grill BBQ established in 2011 is famed for its authentic charcoal-grilled barbecue, signature seafood and kimchi pancake, and bibimbap. Currently, it has a Soulmeat Festive Set ($118) for the festive seasons. The set comes with two prime cuts, spicy marinated chicken, half half pancake, japchae and soup.

WangDaeBak14
Truffle Boneless Prime Ribs (200gram) 4.5/5

WangDaeBak16
Marinated Pork Belly 4.2/5

WangDaeBak18
Truffle Duroc Pork Collar 4.2/5 and Spicy Marinated Chicken 4/5

Diner at Wang Dae Bak definitely cannot do without the premium and quality meats. Slow grill them over charcoal fire to get a nice char on the exterior while the meats remain tender and juicy. Have it on its own or wrap it with cabbage to appreciate the beautiful meats.

Japchae 4/5

While waiting for meats to be grilled, diners can start on some ala carte cooked dishes too. Though look simple and plain, each strand of the Japchae is infused with the savoury soy sauce flavour with a delightfully chewy texture.

WangDaeBak7
Spicy Seafood Tofu Soup 4.5/5

The Soulmeat Festive Set comes with a choice of soups. Besides the Spicy Seafood Tofu Soup which I ordered, the other options are Kimchi Soup with Pork Belly and Seafood Beanpaste Soup. The soup is an excellent complement for the grilled meats. Not only does it help to wash down the greasiness, but it also whets the appetite for more grilled meats.

Half Hal Pancake 4.2/5

A signature and popular item on the menu is the Half Half Pancake. I notice almost every table in the restaurant ordered this. The portion is huge! Half seafood pancake, half kimchi pancake. It is crispy and yet not too doughy.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

They have also recently expanded the section on the second floor, which used to be the private two-storey events loft space. The exclusive extended dining area can accommodate more people with ample room for social distancing yet still maintain an intimate community feel with its cosy seating and warm surroundings. Customers can enjoy their hearty meals in a bright sun-lit interior overlooking the tree-lined sidewalk through tall glassy windows.

Big Brekkie Waffle Plate 4/5

The Big Brekkie Waffle Plate ($22) is a hearty rendition of the classic American Big Breakfast with corn waffles, grilled sausage, crispy bacon, sautéed mushroom, soft scrambled eggs, and roasted tomato with a side of healthy greens.

Avocado Open Face Sandwich 4.2/5

Another staple in the breakfast menu is the Avocado Open Face Sandwich ($18.50). The sourdough bread is crisped to perfection and smothered with melted cheese and avocado before being topped with a fried sunny-side-up egg and sprinkling of kale chips.

KaraCafe3
Kaya Butter French Toast 4/5

For desserts, we had their Kaya Butter French Toast ($14), which is inspired by the traditional Singapore breakfast food of kaya toast. The gorgeous dish features fragrant pandan bread dusted generously with toasted coconut flakes, capped with seasonal fresh fruits and edible flowers.

KaraCafe6
Okonomiyaki Truffe Tots 4/5

We also had a side of their signature Okonomiyaki Truffle Tots ($12) which comes in a generous portion of crispy tater tots doused in an umami okonomiyaki sauce.
