GUPSHUP @ The Serangoon House - The Great Indian Feast, 1-for-1 Promotion

IMG_6858

GUPSHUP at The Serangoon House presents the vibrant, diverse flavours of Indian cuisine, elevated with contemporary finesse, under the guidance of Chef Jolly, a former MasterChef India judge and an award-winning culinary personality with over 25 years of global experience. The restaurant is tucked discreetly in the basement of The Serangoon House. Its intimate space, designed in Indian colonial style, carries a sense of grandeur with a touch of mystery. Chef Jolly's curation of regional dishes is wholesome, and some of which may be unfamiliar to the local palate. It is best experienced through the newly launched The Great Indian Feast, an unlimited à la carte dining journey spanning India's rich culinary tapestry.

IMG_6861
Lotus Papdi Chaat 3.5/5

The Feast features 13 dishes, beginning with three appetisers: Pani Poori, Bhindi Amchur, and Lotus Papdi Chaat. The Pani Poori was an absolute standout, with paper-thin semolina shells filled with crushed potato and chickpeas. Served alongside were tamarind and spicy mint shots, which were sharp and tart, making each mouthful a punchy delight. The Lotus Papdi Chaat delivered a creamier contrast with yoghurt, pomegranate-mint sauce, and the satisfying crunch of lotus crisps.

IMG_6855
Bhindi Amchur 3/5

The Bhindi Amchur are okra fries, dusted with chickpea flour, cumin, and mango powder, leaning more towards crisp finger food than juicy bites, but made for moreish nibbles.

IMG_6879
Amritsari Chole 4.5/5

IMG_6917
Tandoori Kulcha 4/5

From the Small Plates, the signature Amritsari Chole and Tandoori Kulcha stood out. The curried chickpeas were deeply spiced and hearty, well stewed to tender and soft, while the kulcha, stuffed with spiced potatoes, coriander, lime, and dried pomegranate seeds, was delicious even on its own.

IMG_6937
Chicken Chettinad Curry & Parotta 4/5

Chettinad cuisine is renowned for its rich, chilli-driven gravies, and the Chicken Chettinad Curry exemplifies South India's bold, spice-laden profile. The curry carried a robust depth with tender chicken. Unfortunately, the handmade parotta fell short, seemingly undercooked and lacking the full layering of a well-made parotta.

IMG_6877
Gosht Seekh Kebab 4/5

IMG_6878
Chicken 65 4/5

IMG_6867
Chicken Keema Kal Dosa 3.5/5

Other savoury highlights included Gosht Seekh Kebab, featuring tender lamb mince skewers flavoured with garlic, coriander, and mild chillies; Chicken 65, a South Indian classic of spiced, crispy fried chicken morsels; and Chicken Keema Kal Dosa, offering homely rice flatbread topped with spiced minced chicken.

IMG_6849
Chilli Paneer 4.5/5

One dish that intrigued me the most was Chilli Paneer, one of the most well-known dishes in Indo-Chinese cuisine. The flour-coated fried paneer is tossed in a Tangra-style sauce that is sweet, spicy, tangy, and garlicky. The flavoursome sauce was a sharp yet delicious contrast to the gentle, milky sweetness of the paneer.

IMG_6942
Kulfi Falooda 4/5

For desserts, we had Kulfi Falooda, featuring a house-made frozen reduced milk with almond and pistachio, fragrant with cardamom and rose, topped with vermicelli, holy basil seeds and a drizzle of raspberry sauce.

IMG_6951

Other than The Great Indian Feast, GUPSHUP has also launched a refined menu of small plates, hearty mains, and creative desserts, ranging from street-style favourites such as chaat to elevated tandoor-grilled specialities and regional delicacies.

Promotion from 1 Sep to 15 Oct 2025

Magpie @ Eng Hoon Street (Tiong Bahru) - Borderless Soul Food with Punchy Flavours and Playful Creativity

Magpie20

Magpie at Eng Hoon Street offers borderless soul food by New Zealand-born chef-owner Eliot Thomas. It’s a place that embraces being unconventionally familiar and unapologetically bold. The philosophy here is simple – come as you are and celebrate life’s moments over aggressively delicious shared plates, a kickass curation of booze, and the irresistible allure of music.

The menu is refreshed regularly, but when I visited, it was categorised into four sections – Snacks, Small Plates, Big Plates and Dessert. Each dish felt like a flavour bomb, and one common thread tied them together: a zesty, tangy punch that lingered in almost every bite.

Magpie2
Fresh Tandoor Bread 3.5.5

We started with the Fresh Tandoor Bread ($12) glazed with Magpie’s butter. The bread was delightfully chewy, but what truly elevated it was Nikki’s Special Chilli. Think of it as Magpie’s version of Lao Gan Ma – robust, spicy, and addictively savoury, the kind of condiment that makes everything taste better.

Magpie6
Prawn Tostada 4/5

The Prawn Tostada ($30) was next, with a thick prawn paste patty sandwiched between two crispy tortilla bases. The tostada was generously drenched in a rich, tangy tomato-based sauce, creating a textural contrast of crunch, tenderness, and saucy brightness.

Magpie12
Kokoda Ceviche 4/5

A standout was the Kokoda Ceviche ($29), a traditional Fijian dish. Unlike Peruvian ceviche that typically uses tiger milk, this version brought together passionfruit, coconut, and avocado. The result was tropical, punchy, and refreshing, pairing beautifully with the delicate slices of fish.

Magpie18
Cumin Lamb Ribs 4.2/5

My favourite of the night was the Cumin Lamb Ribs ($36 for 4pc). The meat fell off the bone effortlessly, tender and juicy, enhanced by a bold aji amarillo sauce and fresh coriander. This was comfort food reimagined with a fiery kick and layered complexity.

Magpie21
Lebanese 7 Spice Chicken 3.8/5

For the main, the Lebanese 7 Spice Chicken ($52) delivered a hearty plate brimming with aromatics. The blend of spices gave depth and warmth, balanced by pistachio yoghurt, pomegranate, and mint for freshness and tang. It was a dish that showcased both richness and restraint in the right proportions.

MagpieInterior-1

Magpie is not about subtlety – it’s about vibrancy, boldness, and soul. Every dish we tried had that unmistakable zesty finish, making it a dining experience that stays memorable. If you enjoy food that excites the palate with punchy flavours and playful creativity, Magpie should definitely be on your radar.

Firangi Superstar @ Craig Road - Enters Its Next Delicious Chapter

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-1

Firangi Superstar, the modern Indian restaurant along Craig Road known for its cinematic flair and fearless flavours, ushers in a new chapter with a refreshed menu of creative debuts and beloved returning favourites. Inspired by India's diverse culinary regions, each dish here is vibrant, layered, and imaginative, offering thoughtful vegetarian alternatives for most plates to cater to all dietary preferences.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-3
Papi’s Jammed Gun 4/5

Papi's Jammed Gun ($29) pairs wagyu beef tartare with crispy papdi, finished with caviar, grated egg, and Firangi's signature gunpowder spice for a punchy, umami-rich bite. The vegetarian version swaps in beetroot tartare and Moai Caviar, delivering the same savoury depth without the meat. It is an excellent introduction to their modern Indian approach.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-5
Big Baller Peperoner 4.2/5

A playful reimagination of the classic paneer Manchurian, the Big Baller Peperoner ($28) features a golden-brown burrata sphere atop tangy, umami-packed Manchurian chilli sauce. The combination of creamy indulgence and bold spice makes this fusion dish both comforting and exciting.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-10
This is Also Not Aloo Gobi 3.5/5

Firangi's twist on the traditional cauliflower-and-potato Aloo Gobi ($18) swaps in bite-sized Romanesco Cauliflower over a spiced potato foam, finished with crispy potato strips and a dusting of aromatic spices. While visually appealing, it leans more subtle in flavour compared to the other bolder offerings.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-13
The Nut Kraken 4.2/5

Octopus cooked pollichathu-style, marinated in spices, wrapped in banana leaf, and grilled to smoky perfection – is served over a sweet, smoky gravy with banana leaf oil and crispy coconut chips for texture. The Nut Kraken ($32) strikes a nice balance between spice, smokiness, and freshness.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-17
The Bengal Bake Off 5/5

My highlight of the night, The Bengal Bake Off ($108), features tender seabass baked in salt dough with a creamy Kasundi marinade. The mustard's bright tang, mellowed by cream and lifted with aromatic banana leaf oil, brings depth and layers of flavour that linger beautifully on the palate. A smart, brilliant pairing that elevates the dish to star status.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-19
Back In The Saddle 4.5/5

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-24
Naan 4.2/5

A returning crowd favourite, Back In The Saddle ($21 per 100g) is Tandoori-spiced lamb cooked until tender, infused with confit garlic and fragrant curry leaves. The sauce is rich and flavourful – perfect for scooping up with Firangi’s signature naans, which have a satisfying chew and char.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-27
Rasmalai “Tres Leches” 4.2/5

The Rasmalai "Tres Leches" ($16) is an inventive dessert that sees layers of cake soaked in rose-saffron cream, topped with pistachios and served with a scoop of saffron ice cream. It's a fragrant, floral twist on the Latin American classic.

FirangiSuperstarJuly25-31
Banoffee Fritters 4.5/5

A playful nod to local goreng pisang, the Banoffee Fritters ($14) feature churros-style crunch with crisp spring roll pastry filled with banana mousse, coated in dark spiced chocolate, and plated with crushed Parle-G biscuits for extra crunch. Comforting, nostalgic, yet refined.

Firangi Superstar’s refreshed menu keeps its signature flair intact while adding clever new creations that span the spectrum from playful to elegant. Whether you’re here for a bold, spice-laden main or a quirky dessert that channels local flavours, this cinematic Indian dining experience continues to deliver both style and substance.

Oscar's @ Conrad Centennial Singapore - The Sea, Smoke & Spice New Themed Buffet Experience

Seafood on Ice 1

Known for its generous spreads and lively live stations, Oscar's at Conrad Singapore Marina Bay presents two new themed dinner experiences: The Sea, Smoke & Spice and Flavours of Yesteryear. Celebrating both the bold and the familiar, each theme invites diners to savour distinct culinary stories, from flame-kissed signatures to comforting heirloom recipes.

Seafood on Ice 2

We tried The Sea, Smoke & Spice theme buffet, and here's our review.

Seafood on Ice 5

Seafood on Ice 3

The evening begins with a refreshing taste of the sea. The Seafood Bar featuring freshly shucked Oysters, Slipper Lobsters, Mussels and Flower Crabs is not to be missed. We especially enjoyed the oysters that were sweet, plump, and incredibly fresh.

Jamon 2

A surprise highlight was the freshly sliced Jamón. We recommend pairing it with the sweet melon from the fruit section for a classic, satisfying combination.

Risotto 1

Risotto 2

Another standout for us was the Mushroom Risotto. Served with whipped Chantilly and sautéed mushrooms, it's finished in a dramatic Parmesan wheel. The al dente rice was creamy and well-seasoned, with rich, earthy mushroom notes that packed a punch.

Lamb Shoulder 2
Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder

Chermoula Fish Pot 2
Chermoula Fish Pot

For those who love deep, bold flavours, the Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder, infused with aromatic spices, was tender and juicy, with a savoury richness. The Chermoula Fish Pot featured flaky fish marinated in North African herbs and spices. Both dishes were flavourful, though potentially a little heavy for those with lighter palates.

Oven Roasted Striploin
Oven Roasted Marinated Angus Beef Striploin

Pulled Beef Sliders & Marinated Spanish Octopus
Pulled Beef Sliders and Marinated Spanish Octopus

The Oven-Roasted Marinated Angus Beef Striploin was a crowd-pleaser, especially when paired with the variety of sauces offered. We found the Pulled Beef Sliders to be a little dry, although the flavour came through well. The Marinated Spanish Octopus, served on a soft jacket potato with sour cream and olive oil, leaned salty. While the potato was beautifully cooked, crispy on the outside and soft within, we found it slightly overpowered the octopus.

Outdoor BBQ 1

Outdoor BBQ 4

Outdoor BBQ 3

The heart of the Sea, Smoke & Spice experience lies at the Live Charcoal BBQ. Smoky and sizzling from the grill:

• Sticky Australian Lamb Ribs
• Spice-rubbed Hanger Steak
• Kurobuta Pork Tomahawk
• Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms

Locally farmed Barramundi and Tara-marinated prawns grilled just right added a coastal flourish to the mix.

Tandoori 2

Right next to the BBQ, don’t miss the Sizzling Tandoori Delights. We loved the Tandoori Chicken and Seabass, and the Chukandari Paneer Tikka stood out for its bold seasoning. Pair everything with fresh naan bread for a complete experience.

Laksa 1

A must-have at Oscar’s: the Signature Seafood Laksa at the Live Noodles Station. Rich, creamy and comforting, served with tofu puff, prawns, fish cake and a quail egg.

Dessert - Strawberry 1
Fresh Strawberries

Dessert - Strawberry 2
Macarons

To end on a sweet note, the buffet's dessert selection is a dream come true for strawberry lovers. Fresh strawberries shine across shortcakes, praline tarts, mousse domes, and the signature Strawberry Romanoff. The fruit's tartness and aroma cut through the savoury dishes with perfect balance.

Dessert - Strawberry 5
Almond Strawberry Tart

Dessert - Strawberry 7
Strawberry Cheesecake

Dessert - Strawberry 1=4
Strawberry-Inspired Chocolate Bar

Other strawberry-inspired delights include:

• Almond Strawberry Tart
• Strawberry Cheesecake
• Strawberry-infused Chocolate Bar
• Strawberry Panna Cotta
• Macarons

Dessert - Strawberry 9
Strawberry Pannacotta

The Sea, Smoke & Spice dinner buffet is available from Wednesdays to Saturdays, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and is priced at S$96++ per adult and S$48++ per child (aged 6 to 12). Reservations are highly recommended at https://www.sevenrooms.com/experiences/oscars
