Fat Prince @ Peck Seah Street - Mediterranean Food in Singapore with Middle Eastern Soul

Fried snapper kebab-7

Fat Prince is one of those restaurants where the moment you step in, you already know you're in for a treat. Warm light, low seating, soft fabrics. The air hums with conversation and clinking glasses. Intimate yet lively, this is Mediterranean dining with Middle Eastern flair, done the Fat Prince way.

Cashew hummus-2
Cashew Hummus 4/5

We started with the house-baked pita bread served with cashew hummus and baba ganoush. The Cashew Hummus ($14) was creamy and nutty, topped with a roasted cashew gremolata and smoked paprika.

Baba ganoush-1
Baba Ganoush 4/5

The Baba Ganoush ($14) was smoky and bright, topped with a harissa-tomato topping and fresh parsley. Both were delicious spread over the warm Pita Bread ($5 per piece). Other dip options include Muhammara ($14) and Labneh ($12).

Egyptian roll-5
Egyptian House Roll with Date Butter 4/5

Their pillowy-soft Egyptian House Roll ($8), also house-baked, deserves a mention of its own. It comes with a date butter that's slightly sweet, and feels like a Middle Eastern twist on honey butter.

Halloumi-1
Halloumi 4.5/5

One of the table favourites was the Halloumi drizzled with truffle honey ($16). The cheese was grilled to a golden crust, springy inside, salty in a good way, and the truffle honey added a lovely sweetness and aroma, making us all eye for that last piece.

Lamb and chicken skewers-4
Chicken and Lamb Skewers 4.5/5

The skewers arrived on a rather impressive large platter, and the meat was plated with a flourish. The Chicken Skewer ($16/piece), served with a traditional Lebanese garlic toum, was tender and juicy with a lightly charred exterior. The Lamb Skewer ($18/piece) was nicely seasoned and complemented by a refreshing mint tzatziki that cut through the richness. They also have a beef skewer option, as well as other tempting mezze plates such as crispy calamari, Fattoush and Tabbouleh salads, fried cauliflower, falafel, and fried harissa chicken!

Fried snapper kebab-4
Build your own kebab - Fried Red Snapper 4.5/5

For sharing, the build-your-own kebab is a fun and communal way to enjoy the evening. The ingredients are vibrant and fresh! We had the Fried Red Snapper ($48), which I loved! It's crispy on the outside, flaky and tender inside, and paired with a very appetising fennel slaw, tahini yoghurt, and pickled vine peppers. If fish isn't your thing, they also have a version with Wagyu Beef Cheek ($68) or a vegetarian Grilled King Oyster Mushroom ($32).

Potato-2
Marble Potatoes with Harissa Aioli 4.2/5

On the side, the Marble Potatoes with Harissa Aioli ($12) were dangerously snackable. Crispy skins, fluffy centres, and a smoky-spicy aioli that kept us reaching for more.

Dubai knafeh-2
Dubai Chocolate Knafeh 4.2/5

Fat Prince doesn't let the meal taper off quietly; the desserts demand some attention, too. The Dubai Chocolate Knafeh ($15) was warm, decadent, and drenched in a dark chocolate sauce. Paired with rose and pistachio ice cream, it offered a contrast of floral and nutty notes. You have to devour it though, before the centre gets soggy from the ice cream.

Baklava ice cream-1
Baklava Ice Cream 3.8/5

We also tried the Baklava Ice Cream ($14) served with orange honey, almonds, and shards of filo pastry. It has some of the crunch and sweetness of baklava, reimagined into an ice cream dessert.

Drinks-2
Drinks

Don't leave without trying their drinks. I like that the drinks menu is inclusive and offers Full Proof (classic cocktails with a full pour), Half Proof (half the alcohol but all the flavour), and No Proof (completely alcohol-free). It's perfect for someone like me who doesn't drink much but still wants a beautifully crafted drink in hand.

Fat Prince creates a dining experience that offers a fresh interpretation of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. The plates are designed for sharing, and the atmosphere invites relaxed conversations. Whether you come for the smoky skewers, the halloumi, or that pretty chocolate knafeh, you have a meal filled with character, warmth, and generosity.

Entrepôt @ The Robertson House - A Taste of Anglo-Asian Inspired Cuisine

IMG_0656

Entrepôt at The Robertson House stands the hotel's all-day dining restaurant and bar. Conceptualised based on Singapore's quayside story and growth as an entrepôt port, Entrepôt's menu is inspired by Anglo-Asian cooking techniques and flavours. The dishes are also crafted with communal dining and a spirit of friendliness in mind.

IMG_0600
Black Sesame Hummus 2.8/5

IMG_0608
Pita Bread

Our dinner began with an off-the-menu starter - Black Sesame Hummus and Charcoal-grilled Pita Bread with dukkah. The acidity of the hummus was quite on point, but the flavour of the black sesame seemed to have been overshadowed by the seasoning.

IMG_0619
Signature Chinese Terracotta Tea 4/5

Next was the Signature Chinese Terracotta Tea ($10/portion), featuring a Crustacean Tortellini in Chinese Dried Mushroom Tea and Lapsang Souchong. The tea-infused mushroom consomme was earthy and light, complementing the meaty tortellini well.

IMG_0626
Heirloom Tomato and Fermented Plum Salad 4/5

From the Starter menu, we also tried the Heirloom Tomato and Fermented Plum Salad ($18). The Fermented Plum Dressing, combined with a sprinkle of salty Olive Vegetables, worked harmoniously to enhance the inherent sweetness of the tomatoes. Elevating the dish further were drops of Thai Basil Oil, adding a delightful pepperiness to the overall flavour profile.

IMG_0652
Angelica Root French Corn-fed Chicken Roast 3/5

IMG_0636
Tasting portion

For Mains, we had the Angelica Root French Corn-fed Chicken Roast ($45), served with Cordyceps, Mushrooms and Asian Napa Cabbage. The well-caramelised skin was deliciously savoury-sweet with Herbal Honey. While the meat was tender, I found it rather bland, particularly when contrasted with the heavily seasoned Angelica Root Chicken Jus.

IMG_0659
Claypot Rice 3/5

Claypot Rice ($28) indulged with Chorizo Sausage and Smoked Pancetta, contributing robust flavours and a meaty texture to the rice. The earthiness of the Wild Mushrooms provided a well-balanced contrast to the intense flavours of the meats. However, the dish leaned towards being a bit overly flavoured due to the infusion of Harissa in the rice.

IMG_0667
Sticky Red Date Pudding 3/5

For desserts, we had Sticky Red Date Pudding with Butterscotch Ice Cream. The ice cream had a smooth and velvety texture, but the pudding, unfortunately, lacked the dense and sticky texture that I was anticipating.

IMG_0588

The Drinks Menu is attractive with spirits and teas exclusively crafted for The Robertson House, such as Dr Robertson's Gin & Tonic concocted with Dr Robertson's Gin, the hotel's exclusive gin crafted with Tanglin Gin, Singapore's pioneering gin distillery.

Western Mahua (西部马华) @ Vivocity - Delicious Handmade Lanzhou La Mian, Pulled And Cooked On The Spot

WesternMahua-09

Recently I have seen a number of Western Mahua (西部马华) restaurants, specialising in Lanzhou La Mian, popping up in different areas in Singapore. They have three outlets now at Vivocity, PLQ and Holland Village. I always go to the outlet at Vivocity, which is nearer to my home. Surprisingly, after my first try of its noodle, I am a convert and have been going back a few times.

WesternMahua-03
Signature Sliced Beef "La Mian" with Superior Bone Soup 4/5

I usually had the Signature Sliced Beef "La Mian" with Superior Bone Soup ($9.80/$11.80). The clear bone soup is boiled for six hours resulting in a light yet robust soup base, complementing the handmade noodles. The Vivocity outlet I usually go to has the full view of the chef making and cooking the noodles from scratch upon receiving your order.

WesternMahua-13

WesternMahua-11

An interesting fact is you can choose the wide of the noodles. There are nine different choices from 1mm to 50mm. We have the 2mm (普通细) and 15mm (中宽). My preference is the 15mm texture. It is broader and has more bite, giving it a more textural enjoyment than the thinner noodle.

LanzhouLaMian-3
Pickled Chicken Soup Chicken/Beef La Mian 3.8/5

Another variety on the menu is the Pickled Chicken Soup La Mian ($11.80). You can choose either to have chicken or beef for the protein. The soup is light and appetising, packed with a sourish profile from the pickled Chinese mustard with a hint of spiciness.

LanzhouLaMian-6
Braised Beef in Pita 3.5/5

Besides the noodles, there are other items on the menu, such as the Braised Beef in Pita ($6/pc) and Lamb Skewer ($3.80/pc). I felt the pita bread was a bit dry. I prefer it to be more fluffy. The saving grace is that the braised beef stuffing was well-marinated with a lovely aroma from the spices. I also applauded that it has a good mix of fatty cuts, so it is not dry. If you like lamb, then the lamb skewer rubbed and grilled in aromatic spices is a must-order.

WesternMahua-14
Lamb Skewer 4.2/5

Tell you a tip. If you dine at Western Mahua outlet at Vivocity, you can also order from the menu from Ali Jiang, the sister restaurant beside the noodle restaurant.

White Marble @ Orchard Rendezvous Hotel - Chef Otto Weibei's Loving Tribute To The Mediterranean

WhiteMarble13

The newly opened White Marble restaurant at Orchard Rendezvous Hotel is a Mediterranean grill concept by Chef Otto Weibel, Singapore's grand doyen of Western gastronomy. The restaurant brings together the timeless flavours of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. And in line with Chef Otto’s philosophy, dishes are prepared with fresh quality produce, using simple techniques that showcase the natural flavours at their vibrant best.

WhiteMarble1
Roasted Butternut Squash 4.2/5

Our dinner started with the Roasted Butternut Squash ($12++). The sweetness of the butternut squash is paired with chilli yoghurt and coriander salsa. It comes with a hint of spiciness from the chilli oil drizzled over the dish, finished with toasted sunflower seeds and seasonal herbs.

WhiteMarble4
Octopus 4/5

Following that, we have the Octopus ($36++). The charcoal-grilled Spanish octopus rests atop crispy potato and garlic cream. Pistachio crumbs are added for extra texture, while the chilli oil spiced up the taste profile.

WhiteMarble6
Fattouche 3/5

WhiteMarble8
Mezze Plate 3.5/5

The Mezze Plate ($34++) and Fattouche ($12++) are good for sharing. The platter comprises falafel, tabbouleh with quinoa, fattouche, eggplant moutabal, hummus, chicken skewers, and grilled pita. The platter draws inspiration from Chef Otto's trip to the Middle East, featuring dishes in the region such as Dubai, Lebaron and Egypt. A healthy take from the region is the Fattouche, a classic Levantine crunchy salad dressed in a refreshing lemon dressing.

WhiteMarble10
Chicken Leg Bone-in Tagine 4.5/5

Great to go with a plate of rice is the Chicken Leg Bone-in Tagine ($60++). The whole chicken leg is marinated with shawarma spice for a day, grilled and cooked with red onions in a tagine. It is a classic Moroccan stew held together by a delicious tomato sauce brightened with dates and preserved lemon.

WhiteMarble14
Prawn Bucatini Puttanesca $28++

My favourite dish for the night is the Prawn Bucatini Puttanesca ($28++). I love the pasta texture cooked in a classic Italian recipe with olive oil, mixed olives, tomatoes, capers and anchovies. It seems that many things were going on, but they came together harmoniously for a delicious finishing.

WhiteMarble16
Seafood and Australian Lamb Skewer 4/5

Not to be missed at White Marble is the charcoal-grilled Seafood Skewer ($38++ per skewer) and Australian Lamb Skewer ($48++ per skewer). The seafood skewer consists of octopus, white fish, prawns, and assorted vegetables. I prefer the Australian lamb skewer marinated in chermoula. It was juicy and tender. Three different sauces - lemon garlic cream, harissa aioli, and salbitxada are served to enjoy the seafood and meat.

WhiteMarble18
Crema Catalana 4.2/5

Unlike creme brulee, the difference is that Crema Catalana ($16++) is thickened with milk and cornstarch instead of cream. Freshly squeezed orange juice is added, zesting up the flavour profile. It is topped with torched orange segments, freeze-dried tangerines, candied orange peels and mint leaves.

WhiteMarble20
Fig & Almond 4/5

Another classic Spanish dessert is the Fig & Almond ($16++), a cold-pressed olive oil cake baked with fresh figs. It is paired with almond crumble for crunch and yoghurt ice cream for a sweet ending.

Miznon @ Stanley Street - Highly Acclaimed Casual Eatery By Chef Eyal Shani Unveiled Its First Outlet In Asia

Miznon15

I have nil knowledge about Israeli cuisine; hence I was really looking forward to the opening of Miznon at Stanley Street. The contemporary casual eatery by Chef Eyal Shani has an international footprint of 10 outlets across the cities of Vienna, Paris, New York, and Melbourne. Singapore is their first outlet in Asia.

Miznon1

Upon placing your order at the cashier, you can help yourself to the complimentary pita bread. It gives you a glimpse of the original taste of the soft and fluffy pita bread.

Miznon3
Intimate 4.2/5

Besides the variety of Pita on the menu, there are other non-pita items too that you can order to complement your meal. The Intimate ($24) is so hearty and comforting with melt-in-mouth beef short ribs, roots stew, tahini, onion, pickles and chilli. I would recommend saving some of the complimentary pita bread to wipe up any leftovers.

Miznon7
Batata 3.5/5

The Batata ($12) may not be as exciting as the other items on the menu, but the grilled sweet potato is really sweet.

Miznon6
Hraime 4.5/5

Not to be missed is the Hraime ($26) that has a whole barramundi swimming in a spicy Moroccan stew, together with tahini, chilli and cilantro. I regret asking you to save some of the complimentary pita bread for the Intimate, you will need more of them to fully appreciate the stew.

Miznon9
Steak & Egg  4.5/5

There is a variety of Pita on the menu stuffed with different fillings. The texture of the pita bread is exactly much softer and fluffier than those that I have eaten so far. As I am sharing them with my friends, we get to try a couple of them. We started with the Steak & Egg ($21) which is stuffed with tender beef, fried egg, sour cream, tomato, onion and Japanese cucumber. A friend of mine shared with me that her husband refused to share with her after having a bite. That just shows how good it is.

Miznon10
Chicken Liver 4.5/5

One of my favourite pitas is the Chicken Liver ($18) which comes stuffed to the brim with seared chicken liver, tahini, spring onion, salsa and chilli. I know some diners may not enjoy the chicken innard, but the creaminess for the chicken liver is like foie gras to me.

Miznon11
Abu Kebab 3.5/5

Something more Middle Eastern is the Abu Kebab ($24) with lamb and beef meatballs, tahini, chilli, salsa, pickles, onion and parsley. I find the meatballs slightly on the dry side, which is somewhat less appetising compared to the other pitas I tried.

Miznon18
ERotisserie 3.5/5

For a healthier choice, one may go for the ERotisserie ($18) that consists of pulled roasted chicken, chilli, spring onion and baba ganoush.

Miznon14
Ratatouille 3.5/5

There is even a vegetarian version of the pita. The Ratatouille ($17) comprises of tahini, chilli and hard-boiled egg.

The pita bread by itself is already very substantial and filling. Unless you go down in a group, you may need to make a few trips to try the different pitas in the menu. By the way, Miznon does not take reservation for lunch, but for dinner, you can do so.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
