Zafferano @ Ocean Financial Centre

IMG_4243ed2

Opened in mid July 2013, I have been hearing good reviews for the 15 months old Italian restaurant, Zafferano. Located on the top level at 43th floor of Ocean Financial Centre, the intimate restaurant comes with a contemporary dine-in section and a rooftop bar with a panoramic view of the Marina Bay skyline.

Insalata Zafferano 4/5

Dinner began with the Insalata Zafferano ($18) that came in a bowl of colourful and refreshing salad of Romaine hearts, fennel, Roma tomatoes, shallot, beetroot, capsicum, brioche croutons and shallot cheese dressing.

Insalata di Salmone Scozzese 4.5/5

I simply fell in love with the Insalata Di Salmone Scozzese ($26) as it has 2 of my favourite ingredients salmon and spinach together on a plate. The salmon was herb cured and thinly sliced paired with crispy red cabbage and baby spinach tossed in a honey mustard dressing.

Ravioli Di Burrata 4.5/5

A vegetarian dish on the menu, the Ravioli Di Burrata ($24) has everyone at the table raving about it. The freshly made ravioli was filled with burrata and served with basil, tomato passata sauce and roasted tomato confit. An excellent dish of texture and flavour coming together with simple ingredients.

Mezzelune Con Ricotta E Spinaci 4.5/5

Another delish vegetarian dish on the menu is the Mezzelune Con Ricotta E Spinaci ($18). The crescent pasta is filled with delectable ricotta cheese and spinach glazed with delightful sage butter sauce. The freshly made crescent pasta was thin and came with a nice bite. Zafferano is really good at their pasta. It's definitely my to go place for the time being.

Branzino Cartoccio 4.5/5

After having tried the steamed Red Snapper at Jamie Kitchen recently, I realized the Italian can do their fish quite well not. Italian cuisine is not just about pasta and risotto afterall. The Branzino Cartoccio ($68) or whole seabass was cooked in paper with olives, capers, tomatoes and spring vegetables. The huge fish is good for sharing between 3 to 5 persons.

Fiorentina Alla Brace 4.2/5

Another dish on the menu that is good for sharing is the Fiorentina Alla Brace ($168). The 900g Black Angus T-bone steak is charcoal grilled to perfection consider its quite a big piece of meat to handle. Good for 3 to 5 persons, one side of the T-bone is tenderloin while the other side is sirloin. The beautiful steak was also served with oyster mushroom, shallots and bone marrow.

Guancietta Di Maiale Iberico 4/5

For non beef eater, the Guancietta Di Maiale Iberico ($35) not only melted in the mouth but probably melt your heart too with the slow braised Iberico pork cheeks with valpolicella wine sauce, cipollotti onion and polenta.

Gnocchi Di Patate Al Gorgonzola E Noci 4.8/5

There were so many delicious food for the night but the Gnocchi Di Patate Al Gorgonzola E Noci ($19) impressed me the most. The russet potato gnocchi with gorgonola cheese topped with walnut flakes was creamy and nutty, packed with lovely flavours and texture.

Astice Alla Busara 4/5

Moving on to seafood, the Astice Alla Busara ($86) is good for 2 persons. The Boston Lobster was cooked beautifully and served with chilli tomato sauce, pine nuts and raisin, gratinated with creme fresche.

Risotto Al Nero Di Seppia 4.2/5

I usually avoid ordering squid ink dishes cause not many places can do it well. The Risotto Al Nero Seppia ($24) surprised me how well the chef managed to balance the saltiness of the squid ink with the red wine reduction and tomatoes. The squid ink flavour was perfectly infused with the risotto served with crunchy baby calamari.

Cremoso Al Formaggio Fresco 4/5

The wonderful night was further sweetened with a quad of desserts. We started off with the Cremoso Al Formaggio Fresco ($10), a light cheese creme with toffee filling on a crunchy biscuit base.

IMG_4261ed
Nocciole Di Canelli 4/5

Exquisitely presented in a crumble, ice cream, caramel and sauce on a plate, the Nocciole Di Canelli ($19), canneli hazelnuts done in 4 ways was not only pretty in sight but delightful in taste.

Tiramisu 4/5

This is probably the prettiest Tiramisu ($18) that I have seen. A classic Italian dessert that was not only pretty in sight but it tasted beautiful too.

Sfoglia Croccante Alla Mela 4.2/5

Among the 4 desserts, the Sfoglia Croccante Alla Mela ($22) was my favourite. The crispy pastry with caramalised golden apple segments was like a match in heaven served with a scoop of homemade Madagascar vanilla ice cream.

Zafferano has definitely impressed with the quality of food. I can understand why they have received many good reviews after personally visit and tried out the food. I left the restaurant making plans for my next visit especially with a new chef on board and a new menu in the pipeline.
