Senso Ristorante & Bar @ Club Street - Sunday Prosecco Brunch

20180624_131314

As Club Street settles in for the beginning of a new week on a lazy Sunday morning, Senso Ristorante & Bar is just about to get started with its Sunday Brunch affair. With its Sunday Prosecco Brunch, you get to enjoy a buffet spread of antipasti and desserts, while your choice of mains and pastas will be served a la minute.

Occupying five heritage shop houses that make up its 180-seaters, this 18-year old establishment is an intimate space, no less. Plate yourself a selection of the starters - freshly-shucked Normandy Oysters and Prawns, Cheeses and Crackers, freshly-baked Breads with butter or olive oil, a glass of Prosecco in hand, and you are on your way. Brunch affairs at Senso is not so much about eat-all-you-can kind of weekend splurge but really about taking it slow, bringing people together over drinks & dine.

What you can rave about this Brunch affair is its range of Italian Cold Cuts which includes premium items such as Vitello Tonnato. Afterall, Senso is known for its contemporary Italian cuisine and these Italian antipasti definitely sets the mood for more Prosecco.

Pan-seared Duck Liver 4/5

From the Soup & Appetizer menu, I tried 2 add-ons (top up $8  per serving) - Pan-seared Duck Liver and Foie Gras Terrine. Beautifully plated, the duck liver came with both sides seared to crisp, with the bottom taking on a sweet note with caramelisation. With the tart port wine cherry coulis and savoury salted meringue served alongside, the different textures and flavours of the ingredients intertwine with one another to complete this dish.

Foie Gras Terrine 4/5

The Foie Gras Terrine was buttery smooth, with subtle livery taste and a hint of alcohol which is my favourite part! The mango chutney brightens it up with a sweet tartness. Like any good butter or bone marrow, the toasted homemade brioche bread becomes the best vehicle to deliver all that into your mouth.

Risotto Carnaroli with Summer Black Truffles 3/5

For Pasta, we also tried an add-on Risotto Carnaroli with shaved summer Black Truffles (+$15). There's really nothing much about this dish other than the shaved truffles on top.

Green Fettuccini, Baby Spinach, Mushrooms 3.5/5

Taglierini, Prawns, White Wine Sauce 3.5/5

Hence, sticking to the regular menu is good enough. We had the Green Fettuccini and Taglierini which were pretty decent. All are served small portion, hence you get to try all on the menu!

Haddock Fillet, Salmon Fillet, Beef Straccetti and Iberico Pluma 3/5

Following are the Mains - Haddock Fillet, Salmon Fillet, Beef Straccetti and Iberico Pluma. Served with complementary sides and sauces, I appreciate how all the Mains are being plated as a course of its own. However, given that all are served a la minute, it is a shame that they were all somewhat dry except the Haddock Fillet.

Desserts range from the classic Tiramisu to Macaroons, Profiteroles and Brownies, Crème brulee. The desserts are average, so you might want to end your Sunday with a refreshing note by ordering its Homemade Ice Cream and Sorbet with fresh berries (top up $6 per serving).

Senso’s Brunch menu is refreshed weekly. I love the ambience and the spread of great antipasti that allows one to spend the early afternoon away from the hustle of the city. Of course, with a glass of Prosecco in hand.

Sunday Prosecco Brunch
Pice: $68 (adult), $38 (child, 6-12 years old) includes free flow of juices.
- Top up $30 for free flow of Prosecco
- Top up $40 for free flow of Prosecco, Wines, Beer, Soft drink, juices, Coffee & Tea
- Top up $60 for free flow of Champagne, Prosecco & Rose' Prosecco, Wines, Beer, Soft drink, juices, Coffee & Tea

The Hungry Caveman @ Orchard Central - Electric Automated Barbecue Concept

DSC02812

Recently opened in Orchard Central, The Hungry Caveman brings to Singapore an electric automated barbecue concept. In partnership with China’s biggest BBQ chain - 某个时间全自动烧烤店, who has approximately 138 outlets in China, expect old-aged caves as the interiors.

There is a wide selection of meat and vegetables. However, do note that the marinade on most of the dishes is spicy, those mala numbing type and they are not stated in the menu. I did not enjoy the marination as it does not complement some of the meat skewers but others might think otherwise.

Guava with Dried Orange Skin 4.2/5

I started off with the signature Guava with Dried Orange Skin because this will just open up your tastebuds to the dishes that are coming up. The guava pieces are thinly cut and are so refreshing with its sourness.

Signature Lamb & AUS Grain Fed Beef 3/5

Top selling dishes here include the Signature Lamb & AUS Grain Fed Beef. Unfortunately, the waiters here will not help you with the barbecue and this means you have to judge the food based on your own knowledge. Thus, my skewers turned out too tough.

DSC02820
Taiwan and German Pork Sausage 4/5

I was really into the Spear-The-Salmon Skewers as the barbecue gave them a charred taste while still being so smooth and flaky. Juices were flowing out with each bite, you just can’t stop at one. Do remember to keep a watch on these salmon as you don’t want to overcook them. Sausage skewers are also available. Personally, I preferred the Taiwan Sausage over the German Pork Sausage but they both had their different tastes. The sausages will burst upon contact with the heat from the barbecue and will be bursting with juices.

Bacon Enoki Skewer 4.5/5

Your mouth will water at the sight of the Bacon Enoki Skewer. Well, I am a bacon-lover so I might be biased but this is one of the dishes you can’t miss out on when you’re doing a barbecue

DSC02799

There were also many vegan friendly choices like the Oyster Mushroom, Shitake Mushroom and Grilled Sweet Corn. Also, there are ready cooked dishes like the Grill Golden Mushroom and Grill Eggplant that you can try.

DSC02826
Grilled Milk Man Tou 3/5

I expected the Grilled Milk Man Tou to turn out like the ones that always come with chilli crab but these man tous will come in their white and raw form. This man tou was probably a healthier version of the fried man tous since they are grilled so you may give it a try if you’re interested.

Grill Scallop Garlic Vermicelli 4.5/5

Another ready to eat dish you should try is the Grill Scallop Garlic Vermicelli. It comes in one piece only but the flavours were really nice and I liked how the vermicelli absorbed the garlic flavour.

DSC02783
The Hungry Caveman’s Healthy Soup 4.5/5

If you’re a soup person, do order The Hungry Caveman’s Healthy Soup, aka “Ge Da” soup in Chinese. It was my first time having such a different soup as this one was thick and packed with many ingredients like noodle bits, tomatoes, egg and vegetables.

DSC02773

Each table comes with fully-automated barbecue machines which allow diners to enjoy barbecued food at ease. However, the heat from the machine was too hot and made it quite hard for me to enjoy my food without trying to burn my face. I have been to another automated barbecue restaurant at Tanjong Pagar before this in which I had a better experience as the heat didn’t affect me at all, hence my base of comparison.
