Roosevelt's Diner & Bar @ Dorsett Residence

IMG_1990ed

Conveniently just located beside the exit of Outram MRT station at Dorsett Residence, less than a month old all day dining restaurant bar, Roosevelt's Diner & Bar is opened by the folk behind the French fine dining restaurant Millesime in Kuala Lumpur. Millesime is an award winning restaurant, voted as one of Asia's top restaurant by The Miele Guide and having been rated as one of the top dining must-do's in 2011 by Singapore's Food & Travel Magazine. (Unfortunately at the time of this publication, I have been informed by my reader that Millesime has closed down).

Jalapeno Bacon Mac & Cheese 3.5/5

A take on a classic is the Jalapeno Bacon Mac & Cheese ($11). As there was jalapeno in it, I thought it will be spicy but it turned out pretty pleasant to the palate. The crumbs on the top gave it a crunchy texture which was really enjoyable. I only hope that the chef could be more bold in the seasoning as I was seeking for a more cheesy execution.

Teddy's Classic Bacon Cheese Burger 4/5

The patty of the gourmet burgers at Roosevelt is made with 100% beef. Using 2 different types of beef, the Teddy's Classic Bacon Cheese Burger ($20) so extremely moist and juicy. It was shared that there is a particular way how the chef mixed and formed the beef patty giving it the moistness

Truffle Snapper Pie 3/5

I could not help comparing the Truffle Snapper Pie ($19) after having tried the baked snapper pie at The Pelican. While it was beautifully perfumed by truffle and wrapped in a flaky pastry, the filling although flavourful but a bit too watery.

Southern Fried Chicken 3.8/5

The Southern Fried Chicken ($18) is marinated with milk giving it a very tender and juicy texture. Deep fried with a secret spicy blend to an aromatic crunchy bite, it is served with salad side and triple mash consists of potato, sweet potato and pumpkin. Like the mac and cheese, I felt that seasoning can be much bolder.

Apple Forest Berries Crumble 3.5/5

Ending the meal on a sweet note with the Apple Forest Berries Crumble ($8). A delectable warm dessert that has a layer of crunchy crumble finished off with a scoop of smooth creamy ice cream.

Roosevelt's Diner & Bar is beautifully decorated with an industrial chic. Among the decor, is a vintage orange Vespa placed beside a glass table supported on a geometric metal framework with a behemoth race car engine forming the base. The food here was decent with some American influence. I felt that the kitchen can be a bit bolder in their seasoning in some of the dishes, just a bit more fine tuning to raise the bar.

Cacio e Pepe @ Bamboo Grove Park

IMG_1066ed

To be frank when I was told that we are going to Cacio e Pepe at the faraway land in Bukit Batok for dinner, I was initially a bit hesitant. I am glad that I did not back out from the dinner or I would have missed the opportunity to unearth a gem in the hood. Nestled among the private housing at Chu Lin Road off Jalan Remaja, Cacio e Pepe used to be at Paya Lebar before relocating to its current location.

Antipasto Italiano 4/5

We started our dinner with a platter of Antipasto Italiano ($50 big/$35 small). A great starter for the 5 of us to share before moving on to our mains.

Risotto Al Nero De Seppa 4.8/5

The sight of the Risotto Al Nero De Seppa ($20) already lifted up my spirit, whetting up the appetite with its generous servicing of squid and clams. In fact, I actually commented that the rice was lesser than the seafood. The rice was cooked perfectly to the texture I liked, neither too mushy or grainy.

Linguine Al Cartoccio 4.5/5

The Linguine Al Cartoccio ($24) is served with clams, mussels, prawns, squid and crayfish in a tomato base marinara sauce. Each mouthful of the al dente pasta is bursting with the lovely seafood flavour swimming in the mouth.

Baked Seabass 4/5

Cacio e Pepe will introduce special item on their menu and we have the privilege to try the Baked Seabass on their special for the day. Clean flavour, tasty and moist, the baked seabass was a delicious choice.

Tagliatelle Al Tartufo 5/5

A must try at Cacio e Pepe is the Tagliatelle Al Tartufo ($24). The homemade egg pasta has a very delectable texture. Cooked in an aromatic truffle cream sauce, this is definitely one of the best pasta dish I have eaten that stimulate all the senses.

The little Italian restaurant at Bamboo Grove Park is an exciting discovery. Never would I have known of this hidden Italian kitchen if not for my friend's recommendation. My own complain is that the lighting in the restaurant is very dim and I really have difficulty reading the menu.
