Photo 30-9-23, 3 08 35 PM

Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ is renowned for being the first restaurant in Singapore to offer the exclusive Korean galmaegisal, a premium pork skirt meat. This delicacy, once reserved for Korean royalty, has become a favourite among Korean food enthusiasts. First conceptualised in Seorae village, South Korea, it has grown into the leading Korean BBQ chain and cemented its reputation as a rare pork-cut specialist, with over 300 outlets established globally. Seorae has since expanded to 6 outlets in Singapore, with its newest outlet in Northpoint City. They are dedicated to presenting the authentic flavours of Korean BBQ and traditional cuisine, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a taste of Korea's culinary heritage.

Hangari Dry-Aged Pork Belly 4.5/5

Seorae's latest addition to their Signature Collection is the Hangari Dry-Aged Pork Belly ($32/200g), a culinary masterpiece aged in traditional Korean Hangari pots with a proprietary blend of three essences. This careful ageing process in a controlled 3-degree chill chamber produces a uniquely flavourful and tender pork belly cut. It promises a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is a true indulgence for the senses. To elevate the experience further, this exquisite dish complements exceptionally well with a side of sambal kimchi onion, adding a delightful hint of spice and complexity to the rich flavours of the dry-aged pork belly. Make a classic lettuce wrap by placing a piece of pork belly within a lettuce leaf and topping it with the sambal kimchi onion.

Pork Skirt 4.2/5

Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ's signature dish, the Pork Skirt ($23.90), is a rare and exclusive delicacy as only 250 grams of this premium pork skirt meat can be sourced from a full-grown pig. The meat undergoes a meticulous 30-minute marination process using Seorae's authentic Korean spices, resulting in a juicy and flavourful experience. What sets this dish apart is its remarkable flavour profile, with all the succulence you'd desire from pork while being notably leaner, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a delectable and indulgent yet less fatty meat option.

Iberico Black Pork Tasting Platter 4/5

Photo 30-9-23, 2 44 02 PM

The Iberico Black Pork Tasting Platter ($68/350g) at Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ introduces diners to the exquisite flavours of Iberico black pork from Spain. This exceptional tasting platter showcases a carefully curated selection of premium cuts, totalling 350 grams of succulent Iberico pork per serving. It offers a unique opportunity to savour each distinct cut, allowing you to explore the nuances of this exceptional pork variety: Abanico, Rib Finger, Skirt Meat, Jowl and Pork Tongue. The Rib Finger meat is known for its juicy and well-marbled qualities, delivering a delightful combination of tenderness and flavour. The Pork jowl is exceptionally tender and showcases a luxurious fattiness that adds depth and succulence to every bite. Our favourite is the Abanico, which is delicate and beautifully marbled, offering a rich and buttery flavour.

Watermelon Soju 4/5

The Watermelon Soju at Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ is a refreshing and visually captivating beverage served inside a hollowed-out watermelon with balls of watermelon meat. This delightful drink combines fresh watermelon juice with soju, offering a perfect balance of natural sweetness and a mild alcoholic kick. It serves as a palate cleanser and pairs excellently with the restaurant's grilled meats.

Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ also offers a tempting array of free-flow sides such as kimchi, potato macaroni salad and braised pumpkin that perfectly complement the main barbecue dishes.

Pint & Dine @ Kensington Square - New Cafe In Bartley Serving Korean Fusion Western Food With Soju Tower In A Fire Extinguisher

PintNDine3

Cafe by day and bistro by night, Pint & Dine is a Korean Fusion Western Cafe that has recently opened within Kensington Square.

PintNDine10
Seafood Ramyeon 3.5/5

We had their Seafood Ramyeon ($10). The warm and comforting bowl comes with noodles, squid, clams, mushroom and egg.

PintNDine12
Kimchi Spaghetti 3.8/5

The Kimchi Spaghetti ($16) is creamy with generous servings of kimchi and bacon bits embedded within the pasta. It packs a delightful burst of tangy flavour from the kimchi, yet not too overpowering. Break the egg and stir in the yolk for a creamier mouthfeel.

PintNDine14
Korean P&D Chicken Wings 3.5/5

Besides the mains, they also offer a variety of finger foods. Their Korean P&D Chicken Wings (6pcs/$12) are available in original, soy garlic or Yang Nyum. We opted for the soy garlic. The battered chicken has a crispy skin and tender meat, with a subtle soy garlic flavour.

PintNDine5
Yakult Soju Tower 4/5

The Yakult Soju Tower ($28) comes in a 1.5L fire extinguisher where you can pump the drink out. While the interesting and instagrammable presentation caught our attention, the drink itself also stood out with a prominent taste of yakult and grape soju sweetness. You can't really taste too much of the alcohol, which is perfect for your non-alcoholic friends. The fire extinguisher tower is available for the Yuzu Milkis Soju and Conjinganmek Soju Tower as well.

PintNDine6
Yuzu Soda 3.8/5

Besides coffee and tea, a non-alcoholic option is the Yuzu Soda ($5.50). This punchy drink is refreshing and bold with citrusy notes.

No Milk Bistro @ Pahang Street - Fish Soup Boutique With A Hip Asian Vibe

NoMilk1

Opened by three very gutsy local chaps, No Milk Bistro offers a combination of good-old dishes and new-found flavours within its 2-storey unit at Padang Street. The Fish Soup Boutique at Level 1 is where a clear fish soup continues its 27 years worth of Teochew-style heritage, and The Rooftop Bistro at Level 2 is where a line up of tongue-tinging dishes awaits you.

NoMilk11
Mixed Fish Soup 3.8/5

Upholding the traditional recipe of the Teochew-style fish soup is Chef Hoe Gern who believes that his full-bodied fish broth needs no milk to dress it up, and will have you coming back for it after you have had your third bowl. Mixed Fish Soup ($7) offers both sliced fish (mackerel) and fried fish (seabass), distinctive with a piece of Japanese Nori in place of seaweed. Compared to many highly acclaimed Teochew fish soups which I often find slightly too saltish, No Milk's take on the soup is much well balanced - you could easily finish it till the last drop and not needing a glass of water after that. The homemade sambal is the star too. Served only 2 days after making to allow its flavours to fully develop, it adds characters to a day-to-day dish. Some of the fried fish slices were drier but overall, it is a fish soup to be remembered when you think "what's for lunch?".

NoMilk16
Char Siew 3.8/5, Ngor Hiang 3/5

Perhaps it is not just the fish soup alone that will have you consider coming back again. The array of side dishes with homemade sauces to complement your fish soup are great for sharing among friends and colleagues. The most intriguing dish would be the Char Siew ($6.9). Not your usual sweet-glazed loin meat but a very tender slab of pork belly being caramelised to charcoal black, attaining hint of smokey sweetness. The homemade Ngor Hiang ($2) was not too tightly packed with meat but moist and juicy with vegetables bits.

NoMilk31
Grilled Pork Belly 3/5

We liked the Grilled Pork Belly ($6.90) too, which was rustic with simple seasoning but could have been better if the salt level could be reduced by half.

NoMilk28
Spicy Fragrant Egg Noodles 4/5

Among all the dishes we tried, including those served on Level 2, this Spicy Fragrant Egg Noodles (little spicy) stands out the most with its originality. The freshly handmade egg noodles was relatively lighter than regular noodles and was prefect with the rich homemade mala chilli sauce. I'm definitely not a mala person but that mala chilli sauce won me over with its pleasant sweet undertone, and the smell of the aromatic black vinegar effusing from the sauce got me hooked. Chunky with mushrooms bits, the noodles itself was moreish on its own. Served with fried fish belly (you can opt for pork belly), an effort from the chef of wasting no good ingredients, I would have appreciated the idea more should they taste less of a salt bomb.

NoMilk22
Beef Rendang Tagliatelle (tasting portion) 4/5

The Rooftop Bistro at Level 2 operates from 530pm to 12 midnight with fusion cuisines and drinks. Although No Milk does not brand itself as a pasta place, the handmade pastas here are definitely better than some of those who do. The Beef Rendang Tagliatelle ($16.80) features a tender beef stewed for 12 hours. The rendang was robust with its own juices and fats, and so easy on the palate. The tagliatelle was thicker than usual but exceptionally springy, and supported the beef rendang well.

NoMilk18

The Thai Red Curry with Tiger Prawns ($18.80) was piquant with a spicy kick.

NoMilk35
Tequila-marinated Angus Beef (tasting portion) 3.5/5

Forget about the regular quesadillas when you have this Tequila-marinated Angus Beef ($24). The D.I.Y part was fun, where filling up the tortilla with slabs of the beef, salsa and topping it up with a spoonful of the velvety mashed potatoes built up the anticipation. The buttery and creamy mashed potato is a star in its own right, available at $6 as a side as well.

NoMilk8

Every night is Ladies’ Night at No Milk, with discounts ranging from 1 for 1 liquor by the glass to 15% off bottles to Korean soju deals (3 bottles for only $42 with a free yakult mixer).

NoMilk6

NoMilk7

I like how this concept of 鱼汤 is being executed and I find this Chinese moniker speaks much more than No Milk and has a potential to go even further. Somehow it reminds me of Lucy Liu in Melbourne. Perhaps, No Milk would find itself right at home as an underground bistro.

Chicken Up @ Jurong East - Voted The Best Korean Fried Chicken

3Z5A1428ed

I actually did not know that Chicken Up has been around since 2010. What surprises me more is that there is a Chicken Up outlet at Jurong East MRT station itself. It is actually located on the ground floor of the station.

3Z5A1421ed
Watermelon Soju 4.5/5

Something that I have always wanted to try at Chicken Up after seeing numerous photo of it on social media platforms is their Watermelon Soju. The cocktail blend of soju and watermelon juice makes it a very easy and happy drink to enjoy with friends and families.

3Z5A1427ed
Ganjang (Soya) Chicken Wings 4.5/5

One of Chicken Up's bestseller is their Ganjang Chicken Wings ($12). It was even declared as the best korean fried chicken conducted in a blind taste with 8 different brands. This is my first time having it and I can understand why. The freshly deep fried chicken wings which are dipped in Chicken Up's special soya sauce blend, is very crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside.

3Z5A1436ed
Bulgogi Fries 3.5/5

I was told that the Bulgogi Fries ($18) is very popular with the diners. The shoestring fries is topped with thin slices of beef marinated in soy sauce and drizzled over with white garlic sauce and garnished with springs of coriander.

3Z5A1432ed
UFO Toppoki 4.2/5

New on the menu is the UFO Toppoki ($35.10) which comprises of rice cake, fish cake and deep fried breaded squid in a spicy chilli paste sauce (gochujang). I have tried many gochujang before but this version is really spicy, it sets my tongue burning. The dish got its name because it is served in an UFO pan. On the side includes other stuff such as caramelized kimchi, cheese, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, steamed egg and some grinded padano cheese as garnish.

3Z5A1430ed

For those that has a big appetite, Chicken Up has a All Day Ala Carte Buffet for both lunch and dinner. It comes with unlimited serving of mega half chicken (spicy, crispy, yangnyum, spicy yangnyum, ganjang), wings/popcorn (ganjang, yangnyum, spicy yangnyum) and side dishes such as fries (kimchi, bulgogi, truffle), topoki, jabchae and fried dumpling.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
