Chara Brasserie @ Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre - Mediterranean-Asian Buffet with 4 Rotating Menus

IMG_3826

Chara Brasserie is an all-day dining restaurant of the new Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre. Offering a Mediterranean Asian theme buffet, the menu lineup took on inspiration from different countries each day of the week. There are four menus in rotation each week. Be enticed by more than 100 varieties, from classic flavours to modern takes on familiar dishes.

IMG_3833
Australian Angus Beef Prime Rib 3.8/5

IMG_3847
Seabass 4.5/5

IMG_3860
Spice Marinated Whole Baby Lamb Rotisserie 4.5/5

On Friday and Saturday, the Live Rotisserie Station will be fully charged with beautifully roasted meats. As the theme is Mediterranean and Asia Pacific, lamb rotisseries and roast carving stations will take centre stage. The star of this station is the Spice Marinated Whole Baby Lamb Rotisserie (for dinner), alongside other hearty roasts such as Australian Angus Beef Prime Rib and Roasted Chicken.

IMG_3884
DIY Chicken Kebab 3/5

There is also an interactive DIY Kebab Station that lets you put together your own kebab. Although the chicken was a tad dry, the creamy hummus made up for the texture.

IMG_3825
Seafood on Ice 4.5/5

The Seafood on Ice station brimmed with chilled clams, poached sea prawns, mussels, flower crabs, lobsters, crayfish, and oysters. The oysters were quite exceptional, and a variety of sauces complemented them.

IMG_3871
Japanese Okonomiyaki 4.5/5

IMG_3873
Korean Tteobokki 3/5

One standout dish from the buffet is the Japanese Okonomiyaki. It's a delightful blend of shredded cabbage, dough, whole egg, and oysters, resulting in a light and satisfying texture. The final touch of sauce and mayonnaise binds the savoury ingredients together with a contrasting sweet and creamy flavour. I reckoned the Korean Tteobokki needed a bit more sauce.

IMG_3838

IMG_3828
Sashimi 3.8/5

I appreciate the individually plated Sashimi from the Japanese station. You can also find aburi chirashi dons with free-flowing ikura, ebiko, and tobiko.

IMG_3846
Chilli Crab 4/5

IMG_3835
Black Pepper Crayfish 4/5

Local favourites and flavours are included as well. Both Black Pepper Crayfish and Chilli Crab were being snapped up really fast. Kung Po Smoked Chilli Prawns were an interesting rendition.

IMG_3814
Prata Puff and Dahl Curry 4/5

IMG_3834
Hand - Skewered Ariff Satay 4/5

Although the Prata Puff and Dahl Curry were a tad oily, they were exceptionally moreish. For the hand-skewered Ariff Satay, I suggest enjoying it early in your meal as they are limited in numbers.

IMG_3795

IMG_3796

IMG_3797
Assorted Kuehs 4.5/5

The Dessert Station was decadent, with a wide range of Nyonya kueh, mini tarts, cupcakes, mini cakes, puddings, and even waffles, served with soft-serve gelato. I tried every single kueh, and they were really delicious!

To celebrate its grand launch, Chara Brasserie is offering an opening special of 25% off the prices of its buffet menu, valid daily until 31 May 2024

IMG_6118
Seafood-on-ice

The Seafood-on-ice station was a popular choice among many diners as their first stop. It showcased a tower of fresh snow crab legs, scallops, mussels, clams, tiger prawns, lobsters, and more.

IMG_6156
Seafood-on-ice

Our top two favourites among these options were the sweet and meaty snow crab legs and the briny oysters.

IMG_6099
Cheese Table

The Cheese Table had a good number of options, with sides of nuts, dried fruits, and crackers to pair with them.

IMG_6095
Smoked Salmon and Ham Cuts

Next to the Cheese Table, a spread of Smoked Salmon and Ham Cuts awaits. I enjoyed the various cuts of ham, and the smoked salmon came in several flavours.

IMG_6112
Salad

For something lighter, look for the Salad Corner, which offers Idaho Potato and Mushroom, Mixed Seafood Salad, Mediterranean Quinoa Salad, and the option to make your own with their homemade dressings.

IMG_6158
Bread Table

Bread lovers can find all types of bread at the Bread Table.

IMG_6132
Carved Meats

Among the Carved Meats, expect Herb Marinated Prime Rib, Pork Rib, Barbecue Veal Rib and more.

IMG_6140
Hot Food

Apart from the generous meat offerings, there was also a significant selection of other hot foods, including Grilled Vegetables, Sauteed Fish, and even the iconic combination of Fried Mantou and Singapore chilli crab. The Chilli Crab carried a good amount of fragrance and heat.

IMG_6130
Hot Food

Another popular station among diners was the Grilled Scallops and plated Pan-Fried Foie Gras. Definitely give the latter a try! The buttery Foie Gras was topped with a tangy-sweet fruit sauce and raspberry sorbet.

IMG_6147
Live Noodle Station

The chefs at the Live Noodle Station will prepare your Laksa or Prawn Noodles fresh upon request. There were also various boiled soups on the side.

IMG_6192
Josper Grill Station

Grab the wooden pegs at your table to make your order at the Josper Grill Station. Dishes cooked a la minute include prawns and tender Mediterranean Octopus. After you order, they will be thoughtfully sent to your table.

IMG_6182
Josper Grill Station

At the same station, I look forward to the well-seasoned Australian Lamb Rack, Wagyu Ribeye, and Roasted Chicken.

IMG_7233
Crab Ravioli

Make sure that you do not miss out on the far end of the buffet line. Here, you can enjoy Pizzas, Truffle Fries, Tapas, and freshly cooked Pasta. We opted for the creamy Crab Ravioli.

IMG_7232
North Indian Delicacies

At a surprise corner, explore quality North Indian Delicacies presented by the team of the new SanSara. From Lamb Bhuna Gosht to Dum Ke Murgh, get them to pair with a side of naan, roti or paratha, all fresh from the tandoor.

IMG_6102
Dessert

Save some stomach space for Dessert from their exciting range. There was a Strawberry Chocolate Fondue, Cakes, Croffles, and Ice Cream — to name a few. If you had to pick, I would recommend checking out the Artisanal Chocolate counter. I especially adored the chocolates with tea-based flavours.

The Epicure Brunch buffet menu is rotational and subject to change.

Eden Restaurant @ Pullman Singapore Orchard - Vibrant Asian Flavours with Contemporary Interpretations by New Executive Chef Martin Tan

IMG_2397

Eden Restaurant at Pullman Singapore Orchard has recently unveiled an updated menu thoughtfully designed by its newly appointed Executive Chef, Chef Martin Tan. This refreshed culinary offering spans from inviting small plates and bao buns to more substantial sharing platters, maintaining the vibrancy of Asian flavours with contemporary interpretations.

IMG_2375
Sticky Pork Belly 4.5/5

IMG_2387
Kam Heong Grilled Octopus 3.5/5

We had Kam Heong Grilled Octopus ($32) and Sticky Pork Belly Bao Bun ($18/2 pcs) to start. The latter exceeded expectations, providing a more satisfying experience. The pork belly showcased an ideal balance of fats and meat, achieving a tender texture that was spot on. Its braised flavour was quite on point, particularly when combined with the layer of salted vegetables within the bun. On the other hand, while the grilled octopus was skillfully prepared, the subtle Kam Heong glaze failed to make a distinct statement in the overall dish.

IMG_2396
River Prawns, Scallop, Local Farmed Mussels 4/5

On the menu are two wok dishes for sharing. We had the bright-looking River Prawns, Scallop, Local Farmed Mussels ($44) in Tangy Coconut Gravy, served with a Charcoal You Tiao. The standout element was the vibrant coconut gravy, boasting a delightful acidity that enticed us to savour each spoonful. While the prawns and scallops were expertly seared, a slightly firmer texture of the prawns would have enhanced the overall experience.

IMG_2414
Pan-Fried Black Cod 4.8/5

For mains, Pan-Fried Black Cod ($42) with Thunder Tea. As a Hakka, I must commend the fine execution of the Thunder Tea, particularly with the addition of roasted peanuts — a hallmark of a traditional Thunder Rice Tea dish. The innovative pairing of the tea with cod fish was a delightful surprise, as the tea's astringency and the cod's richness complemented each other flawlessly. The cod, adorned with crisped skin, added an extra layer of deliciousness to the dish.

IMG_2409
Hae Bee Hiam Australian Lamb Rack 3/5

On the other hand, the Hae Bee Hiam Australian Lamb Rack ($48) could have been more impressive. The standout feature for me was the tangy Sesame-Fermented Sauce, which skillfully complements the inherent gamey taste of the lamb. However, the expected presence of the Hae Bee Hiam glaze was somewhat lacking. Perhaps sous vide preparation wasn't the ideal way to achieve precise doneness, and the overall texture of the lamb left a bit to be desired.

IMG_2426
Coconut Frozen Parfait 3/5, Osmanthus Chia Seed Jelly 3/5

For desserts, we had Coconut Frozen Parfait ($16) with Pineapple Nage and Osmanthus Chia Seed Jelly ($16). The parfait was interesting, with a sprinkle of pink peppercorn, which lent a peppery fragrance and nuanced flavour. However, using riper and juicier pineapples instead of our unripened ones would have elevated its tastiness. The latter was refreshing with Kaffir Lime and Mango cubes thought a reduction in sweetness would have been ideal.

En Yakiniku @ Middle Road (Bugis) - First in Singapore Sake Tengoku

EnYakiniku10

En Yakiniku, nestled in the heart of Middle Road, introduces a first-of-its-kind experience in Singapore - Sake Tengoku. This unique offering involves superior broth and sake being steamed with Ebi, Hotate, and Asari over charcoal in a special steamer, adding a distinctive touch to the traditional Japanese yakiniku experience.

EnYakiniku2
En Sashimi 4.2/5

Embarking on our dinner experience, we delved into a couple of appetizers, starting with the En Sashimi ($32.40). A platter of fresh and generously cut Salmon, Maguro, Hamachi, Mekajiki, and Tako.

EnYakiniku8
Foie Gras with Yam 3/5

Following the exquisite sashimi is the Foie Gras with Yam ($36). The pan-seared duck liver, resting atop a slice of yam, offered a decadent experience. However, the slightly sweet sauce somewhat obscured the nuanced creaminess of the foie gras.

EnYakiniku11
Sake Tengoku 4.5/5

EnYakiniku17

EnYakiniku20

The pièce de résistance was the newly introduced Sake Tengoku ($68). Prawns, clams, and scallops were meticulously steamed over charcoal in a special sake and superior broth-infused steamer. Arranged in three layers, each tier unveiled a seafood symphony. The Japanese congee in the final layer, infused with the essence of seafood and sake, reached perfection when paired with a serving of wagyu shabu-shabu - a bowl of comforting and hearty porridge.

EnYakiniku31
Zabuton

For the quintessential Japanese yakiniku experience, a variety of beef cuts graced our table. The cut of the day, Zabuton ($38.90), showcased a rich beefy flavour and a satisfying textural bite.

EnYakiniku36
Temari Gyutan

The Temari Gyutan ($14.90) was a unique offering, presented with seasoned rice balls wrapped in thinly sliced wagyu beef tongue. Grilled over charcoal, this dish offered a delightful fusion of sushi and barbecue.

EnYakiniku41
Negi Gyu Tan

To fully savour the tender beef tongue, the Negi Gyu Tan ($27.90), adorned with spring onions, provided a flavorful and aromatic option.

EnYakiniku66

EnYakiniku69
Miyazaki A4 Wagyu Striploin

For those seeking a more premium indulgence, the Miyazaki A4 Wagyu Striploin ($54.90) showcased top-quality marbling, delivering a distinct melt-in-the-mouth texture.

EnYakiniku52
Chestnut-fed Duroc Pork Belly

Non-beef enthusiasts need not fret. The Chestnut-fed Duroc Pork Belly ($15.90) and Tiger Prawn ($22) offered equally gratifying options. The grilling process released fragrant aromas, enhancing the overall dining experience.

EnYakiniku63
Tiger Prawn

En Yakiniku's meticulous attention to detail and innovative offerings make it a standout destination for those seeking a Japanese BBQ experience elevated by culinary creativity and premium cuts.
