Chara Brasserie @ Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre - Mediterranean-Asian Buffet with 4 Rotating Menus

IMG_3826

Chara Brasserie is an all-day dining restaurant of the new Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre. Offering a Mediterranean Asian theme buffet, the menu lineup took on inspiration from different countries each day of the week. There are four menus in rotation each week. Be enticed by more than 100 varieties, from classic flavours to modern takes on familiar dishes.

Australian Angus Beef Prime Rib 3.8/5

IMG_3847
Seabass 4.5/5

IMG_3860
Spice Marinated Whole Baby Lamb Rotisserie 4.5/5

On Friday and Saturday, the Live Rotisserie Station will be fully charged with beautifully roasted meats. As the theme is Mediterranean and Asia Pacific, lamb rotisseries and roast carving stations will take centre stage. The star of this station is the Spice Marinated Whole Baby Lamb Rotisserie (for dinner), alongside other hearty roasts such as Australian Angus Beef Prime Rib and Roasted Chicken.

IMG_3884
DIY Chicken Kebab 3/5

There is also an interactive DIY Kebab Station that lets you put together your own kebab. Although the chicken was a tad dry, the creamy hummus made up for the texture.

IMG_3825
Seafood on Ice 4.5/5

The Seafood on Ice station brimmed with chilled clams, poached sea prawns, mussels, flower crabs, lobsters, crayfish, and oysters. The oysters were quite exceptional, and a variety of sauces complemented them.

IMG_3871
Japanese Okonomiyaki 4.5/5

IMG_3873
Korean Tteobokki 3/5

One standout dish from the buffet is the Japanese Okonomiyaki. It's a delightful blend of shredded cabbage, dough, whole egg, and oysters, resulting in a light and satisfying texture. The final touch of sauce and mayonnaise binds the savoury ingredients together with a contrasting sweet and creamy flavour. I reckoned the Korean Tteobokki needed a bit more sauce.

IMG_3828
Sashimi 3.8/5

I appreciate the individually plated Sashimi from the Japanese station. You can also find aburi chirashi dons with free-flowing ikura, ebiko, and tobiko.

IMG_3846
Chilli Crab 4/5

IMG_3835
Black Pepper Crayfish 4/5

Local favourites and flavours are included as well. Both Black Pepper Crayfish and Chilli Crab were being snapped up really fast. Kung Po Smoked Chilli Prawns were an interesting rendition.

IMG_3814
Prata Puff and Dahl Curry 4/5

IMG_3834
Hand - Skewered Ariff Satay 4/5

Although the Prata Puff and Dahl Curry were a tad oily, they were exceptionally moreish. For the hand-skewered Ariff Satay, I suggest enjoying it early in your meal as they are limited in numbers.

Assorted Kuehs 4.5/5

The Dessert Station was decadent, with a wide range of Nyonya kueh, mini tarts, cupcakes, mini cakes, puddings, and even waffles, served with soft-serve gelato. I tried every single kueh, and they were really delicious!

To celebrate its grand launch, Chara Brasserie is offering an opening special of 25% off the prices of its buffet menu, valid daily until 31 May 2024

88 Pocha + BBQ @ Duxton - Bringing Together The Atmosphere of Pojangmacha and Korean BBQ Under One Roof

IMG_7310

88 Pocha + BBQ at Duxton brings together the vibrant atmosphere of Pojangmacha with the enticing lure of Korean BBQ. The Korean BBQ selection showcases good quality cuts, including Chicken Set, Duroc Pork Set and A5 Wagyu Beef.

IMG_7281
Duroc Pork Set 4/5

Duroc Pork Set ($45.88) comes with 180g Pork Belly, 180g Pork Jowl, Kimchi, Chinese Chives, and Watercress.

Pork Belly

IMG_7326
Pork Jowl

The Pork Belly though thinly sliced, was as succulent as the Pork Jowl. The best parts were the charred bits, especially the Pork Jowl. The best way to barbecue the pork jowl is to cut it into small pieces when they are halfway done to get its edges charred and turn them into moreish morsels. The grilled kimchi and chives helped offset the fatty meats' richness.

IMG_7294
Seafood Tofu Stew 2.5/5

IMG_7284
Tteokbokki 3.5/5

88 Pocha + BBQ also offers a variety of stews to accompany the BBQ sets. We had Seafood Soft Tofu Stew and Tteokbokki. The stew could have been better. It wasn't much of a stew with a very thin consistency. The latter fared better. The rice cake was chewy with a nice bite, and the sauce complemented it well.

IMG_7331
Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice 3/5

The BBQ set also comes with a complimentary Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice, which is heated up and tossed with cheese when you are done with the meats. The taste was average, but it was a nice touch to complete the experience.

To complete the experience of Pojangmacha, 88 Pocha also offers a wide range of beverages, from bottled beers, Soju, and Highball, to traditional Korean rice liquor and makgeolli.

Dosirak @ Suntec City - Popular Korean Shake Bibimbap Opens New Outlet At Suntec City

Dosirak1

Dosirak, fast-healthy Korean food restaurant in Singapore recently opened its third outlet at Suntec City. Reinventing traditional Korean food for modern consumers as a fast, convenient and inclusive alternative, they offer bibimbap in fun tubs with a myriad of fresh ingredients and flavours for shaking, as well as tteokbokki to complete the Korean dining experience.

Dosirak3

Next, pick 5 sides from the array of vegetables on display, such as the cucumber, purple cabbage, spinach and bean sprouts, followed by a base (5-grain rice, buckwheat noodle and cauliflower rice). Opt for an add-on (mushroom or onsen egg).

Dosirak2

To amp up the flavours of your bibimbap, choose from 3 of their homemade sauces such as the umami Soy Garlic Jang, spicy Omma’s Gochujang and the sweet and tangy Apple Cider Gochujang. Add in the sauce, close the lid, and give the bibimbap a good shake, until all the ingredients are nicely mixed together.

Dosirak4
Soy Sesame Chicken Bibimbap Bowl

Dosirak12
Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap Bowl

I tried the Soy Sesame Chicken Bibimbap Bowl and the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap Bowl. While the flavoursome sauces gave the bowls an uplift of flavours, the meats took the limelight, well-executed with its sous-vide method of preparation, which rendered the meat tender, while retaining its moisture and juiciness.

Dosirak5
Classic Spicy Tteokbokki

Apart from their signature bibimbaps, they also serve Tteokbokki. Choose from the Classic Spicy Tteokbokki, and their new Creamy Truffle Tteokbokki, which is exclusively available at their Suntec outlet. A modern take on tteokbokki - the truffle cream sauce was thick and creamy, with a subtle truffle aroma. Further drizzled with a truffle-infused oil to enhance the flavours of the soft, chewy rice cakes.
