Feelsion @ Old Phuket Town [Phuket]

20180115_180240_HDR

Off the beaten track at Old Phuket Town sits Feelsion. Rather common in countries like Australia, where you will find warehouse-style cafes in suburbs or industrial chic spaces right in the middle of a neighbourhood. As I turned into the lane, the sight of this steampunk design space in a sleepy town bewildered me for seconds.

The European style chairs fall aptly into place alongside with other vintage furniture and antique exhibits which bound to intrigue you in one way or another. My favourite place is the toilet and if you ever drop by, you will know why. Sit on the mezzanine level allow you to appreciate almost the entire spectrum of this place.

The drinks come across as rather archaic to me, like how some other cafes tried to make their food instagrammable. Still, we ordered one just to complete the experience.

Spicy Seabass Soup 4/5

I half expected the food to be amateurish but it turned out to be real good, way better than the watered-down version that I had in Patong beach. The Spicy Seabass Soup was fiery and tangy, and if you like XO sauce, the sweet-spicy shrimp paste at the side may make you want to get a bottle back.

Green Curry Spaghetti 4.2/5

A fusion dish is the Green Curry Spaghetti, similar to our Laksa pasta. The green curry sauce was rich and robust, and the housemade crispy prawns say a lot about the quality of their food. I would imagine most would have given us the ready-to-eat prawn tempura version.

Rum & Banana ICe Cream 3.5/5

Homemade ice creams seem popular in Thailand and I remember having really delicious ones in both Thailand and Cambodia. I tried the Rum & Banana. The rum taste was quite pronounced and the sweetness level was quite right.

Bookhemian @ Old Phuket Town [Phuket]

20180116_111432_HDR

The need to refresh my diving skills brought me to Phuket at the start of 2018. An island frequent by Singaporeans, this was actually my very first trip, finally after years of putting it off. And what might possibly make me return, is certainly not the overcrowded beaches but the quaint Old Phuket Town.
Old Phuket Town - what an escape from the jam-packed streets of Phuket. Most importantly, scrumptious authentic Thai food and smiley faces of the locals. If time is not on your side, Talang street would be the main area to explore.

Lined with cafes, boutiques, little souvenir shops, this area shares a similar vibe with that of Malacca's Jonker Street. With only an hour to spare, I managed to squeeze in 15mins at Bookhemian.

As with its moniker, its interiors is made up of books and cute souvenirs. Coffees are great too. Many had the Iced Bookhemian Coffee than comes with a torched marshmallow cream atop. I had Magic, which comes with double ristretto. Though the milk came slightly too hot, it still carried the bold flavour and body.

Walk deeper into the space and you will find yourself away from the busy streets. As with most of the cafes and bistros housed in this entire stretch of narrow terraced houses, the extended 'alfresco' hallway provides a respite from the hustle and bustle.

The Nap Patong Hotel, Phuket

IMG_5655-001

Back in September 2012, I went to Phuket for a short weekend getaway. After some research on tripadvisor, I decided to book my stay at The Nap Patong at Patong Beach. The chic, stylish ambiane and modern minmalist design hotel is located at the tranquil end of Patong Beach. The beach is 5 minutes walk from the hotel while the hectic centre of Patong's dining and entertainment district is about 10 minutes walk.

Massage parlours and restaurants can also be found just a few steps away at the main roads even it is a distance away from the heartbeat of Patong beach.

Love the Tiffany blue theme of the hotel and the spacious check in lobby. There is even beach beds placed at the lobby itself.

Besides the lobby is where the bar and restaurant is located. This is where the morning buffet breakfast is served.

The room is spacious and clean. Love the morning sun shining into the room. It also comes with complimentary wifi.

The bed side comes with an Iphone docking station for one to play their favourite music as well as charging their phone.

Simply love these hotel door hangers.

Although the toilet does not come with a bath tub, it is still quite cozy and big.

For light travellers, The Nap Patong provides complimentary bathroom amenities. Even the shampoo is consistent with the Tiffany blue theme.

My room also comes with a balcony which has a great view of the swimming pool. A perfect day to have a can of beer, rest and relax and enjoy the beautiful view.

The Nap Patong Hotel is a new and pretty well maintained hotel with nice friendly service staffs. It also received a lot of good reviews in tripadvisor. Although the hotel received many good reviews, the location of the hotel which is at the start of Patong beach is still a distance away from the vibrant part of Patong beach.

Phuket Trip Part 3

I have visit Thailand several times but never eaten at MK Restaurant. There is MK Restaurant located at Junceylon Shopping Mall at Patong, Phuket and I decided to check it out for dinner.

To cool ourselves from the hot weather, we have Thai Ice Tea and Pineapple Juice which were very refreshing.

We settled for the MK Steamboat. I ordered the vegetable platter, meat platter and beef. The platters had a good variety of ingredients and the beef was beautiful. Unfortunately there was no flavour for the broth. It was plain boiling water. I even noticed the tourist couple beside my table pouring soy sauce and chilli into the broth.

The steam rice came in a little pyramid shape with brown rice and barley on top of it. It gave the rice an additional texture which was nice.

Phuket Trip Part 2

After settling down in the resort, we took the resort shuttle to Central Festival. Central Festival is another mega shopping mall in Phuket. After roaming around the mall for a while, we went to Yum Saap for lunch.

The morning glory was spicy and crunchy. Although it was mostly stems but it was an enjoyment biting into the crunchiness.

The Papaya Salad which is also known as Som Tam in Thai is full of flavours. Sour, spicy and sweet all came together in a simple dish of shredded unripened papaya. It also came with salted egg which was quite unique.

The authentic Green Curry Chicken was really good. The green curry gravy was thick and creamy exactly the the way I like.

The hot and sour taste from the Mixed Seafood Tom Yam simply spice up my day. It was full of yummy and fresh seafood.

Phuket Trip Part 1

I went for a 3D2N short trip in Phuket after grabbing a cheap accommodation deal from WOTIF at Evason Phuket & Bon Island Resort for USD$57 per night, which was about SGD$66 per night. The resort is located at the Southern end of Phuket at Rawai beach area. The resort itself also has a private island which you can visit via their free ferry shuttle.

A peaceful and scenic view welcomes you when stepping into the resort.

The resort has 4 pavilions built above the pond serving as reception area.

A towel,  welcome drink and tibits upon checking in.

The scenic view every morning for breakfast.

Interesting "Do not disturb" door sign.

The resort also has its own vegetable farm too.
