Dallas Restaurant & Bar @ Boat Quay - Western Favourites With A Local Twist To Celebrate Chinese New Year

DallasCNY15

Moving away from the typical Chinese New Year delicacies at Chinese restaurants, dive into the western culinary delights with a touch of Asian flavours at Dallas Restaurant & Bar. The enticing festive set menu comes with a selection of starters, mains and desserts in a 2 course ($28++) or 3 course meal ($36++).

DallasCNY21

Nestled along Boat Quay, the restaurant offers beautiful views of the Singapore cityscape, especially the balcony seats on the third floor where diners can sip on cocktails while enjoying the view.

DallasCNY20
Lychee Martini 4/5

Their Cocktail Of The Month, Lychee Martini ($12++) is made using the award-winning and super premium Laplandia Vodka from Finland. It has a pleasant fruity sweet taste, with a slight tart finish.

DallasCNY1
Black Pepper Calamari 4/5

We remembered our fondness for their signature salt & pepper calamari and were no less impressed with their Black Pepper Calamari, served with black pepper and curry leaf dipping sauce on the side. Perfectly soft and chewy, with a slight layer crisp on the outside, the accompanying black pepper sauce adds a subtle savoury sweet flavour to the calamari, without being too peppery.

DallasCNY23
Wagyu Cheeseburger Spring Rolls 3.8/5

The Wagyu Cheeseburger Spring Roll is our typical spring roll but given an ingenious western twist with flavourful wagyu cheeseburger fillings within the crispy rolls. While I would still enjoy a proper cheeseburger, this inventive combination is an interesting dish worth trying, served with a side of tomato and mustard dipping sauce for a tangy flavour.

DallasCNY5
Satay Chicken Skewers 4/5

A classic local fare. their Satay Chicken Skewers comes in larger portions, and the meat is much more tender and juicier than the usual satay.

DallasCNY7
Tom Yum Prawn Linguine 4.2/5

A surprisingly good combination where East meets West, I was blown away by how good the Tom Yum Prawn Linguine was. The linguine was cooked to a delectable consistency and doused in a spicy-sweet Tom Yum sauce. The result is a spicy, fiery and sweet dish that got us wiping the whole plate clean.

DallasCNY12
Steamed Barramundi with Ginger 3.8/5

The Steamed Barramundi with Ginger features a soft and fork-tender Barramundi over light and fluffy rice, and mixed Asian greens.

DallasCNY14
Prime Rib Steak 4.2/5

The restaurant's highlight is the Prime Rib Steak (250g), which is served with fries and salad. The thick slab of prime rib is slow-cooked to order and chargrilled, resulting in incredibly juicy and tender meat. You can choose to pair it with their Red Wine Jus, Black Pepper, Smokey BBQ and Wild Mushroom sauce.

DallasCNY16
Orange and Almond Cake 4/5

End your dining experience on a sweet note with the Orange and Almond Cake. Perfectly spongy and moist, the cake has a light zesty fragrance, great with double cream atop to balance the flavours.

Mezza9 @ Grand Hyatt Singapore - 9 Different Dining And Wining Experiences Under One Roof

Mezza_10

Many people has the misconception that Mezza9 at Grand Hyatt is a buffet restaurant but actually it is not. Probably due to its popular Sunday brunch and open show kitchen concept, I also thought that Mezza9 offers buffet throughout the week. Mezza9 is actually a restaurant with 9 different dining and wining experiences under one roof. You have the Grill, Sushi, Thai, Seafood, Steam Basket, Patisserie, The Shop, Party Room and Martini Bar all housed together, where you can order anything from any of the concepts. It is perfect for people who wants variety and not restricting one to just a particular cuisine.

Mezza_3
Lychee Martini 4.5/5

We started with some pre-dinner and I ordered a light but refreshing Lychee Martini from the Martini Bar to start with.

Mezza_7
Tom Yam Goong Nam Kon 4/5

Actually the menu is a bit overwhelming as they are some many things we want to try from the different cuisines. We decided to try as far as possible order an item from each section or concept. From the Thai Menu, we decided to have the Tom Yam Goong Nam Kon ($16), a Thai spicy and sour soup with tiger prawn. The kick from the spiciness definitely whets up our appetite.

Mezza_18
Blue Swimmer Crab Cake 4.2/5

Mezza_16
Seasonal Rock Oysters 4.5/5

From the Seafood Menu, we tried the Blue Swimmer Crab Cake ($7.50/pc) with remoulade sauce. It is packed with real crab meat encased in a crispy exterior. A delicious and delightful starter. We also ordered some Seasonal Rock Oyster ($6/pc). They were fresh and plump.

Mezza_12
Premium Sashimi Moriawase on Ice 4/5

Japanese is one the my favourite cuisines and I can't resist getting some sashimi from the Sushi section. The Premium Sashimi Moriawase on Ice ($88) comes with fresh delivery such salmon, swordfish, yellowtail, ebi and scallop. While they are fresh and thickly cut, I was expecting a little bit more in terms of ingredients since it is labelled as premium, such as toro and uni.

Mezza_24
French Charolais Beef Fillet 250g 4.5/5

Mezza_28
Green Asparagus with Hollandaise, Dukkha 4.2/5

From seafood we moved on to some meat from the Grill menu. We decided to go for the French Charolais Beef Fillet 250g ($70) which is grass-fed and dry aged for 50 days. Grilled to a beautiful medium rare pink, the beef had a delectable full flavour with a nice char on the exterior. To go with the steak, we also ordered Green Asparagus with Hollandaise, Dukkha ($9) as our side.

Mezza_32
Mezza9 Dessert Extravaganza $38

We really have a hard time deciding which dessert to order, so the easiest way is to have the Mezza9 Dessert Extravaganza ($38) which includes everything on the dessert menu. The dessert platter consists of the Mezza9 Flower Pot, Peach Compote, La Esmeralda Chocolate Pudding and Gluten Free Banana Flour Crepe. My favourite is the chocolate pudding and gluten free banana flour crepe.

Naughty Nuri's Singapore @ Capitol Piazza - Renowned Bali RestaurantOpens First Outlet in Singapore

IMG_6286ed

The renowned Naughty Nuri's in Bali, Indonesia has finally landed in Singapore. Popular for its succulent barbecue pork ribs, Indonesia fare and martinis, the restaurant has opened its first outlet at Capitol Piazza. No longer do we need to fly all the way to Bali to satisfy their barbecue pork ribs cravings.

IMG_6297ed
Mad Ribs Half Rack 3.8/5

Known for having the best sticky pork ribs in Bali, we just have to try it for ourselves. We had the Mad Ribs Half Rack ($18.80). Marinated in balinese spicies and glazed with their special asian bbq sauce, the pork ribs were indeed juicy and succulent. However, it lacked that charred aroma to encompass that beautiful meat. Even my dining partner who has dine at the Bali outlet, felt disappointed. Saying that, a highlight worth mentioning is the kechap manis chilli sauce on the side. It complemented the pork ribs very well, giving it a wicked kick in flavour.

IMG_6309ed
Pull Pork Burger $16.50

From the grill, we also tried the Pull Pork Burger ($16.50). Sandwiched between the homemade bun is yogurt mint slaw, cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, lettuce and the pull pork. The burger felt sort of off balance, with the pull pork overshadowed by the intense flavours of the slaw, cheese and bbq sauce.

IMG_6284ed
Nuri's Signature Martini 3.5/5

Not to forget, the bar at Naughty Nuri's shakes up some interesting Martinis and Cocktails by the in-house Master Mixologist Ricky Paiva. We started with the Nuri's Signature Martini ($19.50) that is infused with the pandan flavour on top of the refreshing coconut.

IMG_6299ed
Crispy Pig Ears 4.2/5

Ideal to go with the martinis and cocktails are some small plates on the menu such as the Crispy Pig Ears ($6.80) and Burnt Squid ($8.80). The Crispy Pig Ears, with its crunchy soft bone that is perfumed with spicy curry powder is really addictive.

IMG_6306ed
Burnt Squid 4/5

A light bite that comes with a slightly burnt surface, gives the bouncy Burnt Squid ($8.80) a hint of smokiness. The sweetness of the squid is further accentuated with the red pepper sauce.

IMG_6302ed
Sambal Prawns Petai 4.2/5

Besides the grill and small plates, I find the Indonesian fare fairs much better than the rest. The Sambal Prawns Petai ($11.80), stir fried in home made sambal and bitter beans, carries a fiery spicy kick to it. I like the fact that it is not fine tuned for the wider public.

IMG_6304ed
Lemak Chili Party 4.5/5

The Lemak Chili Party ($6.80) has the whole chicken leg cooked in a tumeric coconut gravy. The tender chicken leg with the creamy gravy has me craving for a bowl of rice to go with it.

I have not tried Naughty Nuri's in Bali hence I could not really compare the food experience. I can only judge on my on personal preference. Overall I think the pork ribs is above average, saving grace is the kechap manis chilli sauce. However, I will return for their Indonesian dishes. I fund them better than the grill items and small plates.
