Peh Gao Coffeeshop @ Serene Centre - Coffeeshop In The Day, Taproom In The Night

PehGao6

Tucked within Serene Centre, Peh Gao presents a unique dual-concept space that seamlessly shifts from a nostalgic kopitiam by day to a lively craft beer destination by night. Operating from 8am to 3pm, the daytime menu pays homage to local breakfast staples alongside hearty mains, before transforming into Orh Gao in the evening, offering Asian-inspired bar bites paired with an eclectic craft beer selection.

The morning crowd can look forward to a concise menu before 10am, featuring traditional toast and open-top sandwiches. From 10am to 2pm, the offerings expand to include a range of noodle and rice dishes, complemented by satisfying sides.

PehGao5
Traditional Kaya Butter Toast 5/5

Starting with the Traditional Kaya Butter Toast ($2.80), it’s easy to see why this has garnered a reputation as one of the best in town. The toast strikes an ideal balance — crisp on the outside yet thick enough to retain a soft, fluffy interior, offering a delightful textural contrast. Slathered with fragrant kaya rich in coconut and pandan notes, and layered with a generous slab of butter, each bite delivers a harmonious blend of sweetness and richness that lingers.

PehGao9
Mapo Tofu Udon 4.2/5

Moving on to the Mapo Tofu Udon ($12), the dish brings together elements of different cuisines in a comforting fusion bowl. Featuring silky mapo tofu, minced pork, onsen egg, and fried beancurd skin, it evokes a sense of familiarity akin to bak chor mee or even a bolognese-style pasta, with udon replacing the usual noodles for a heartier bite.

PehGao14
Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang 4.8/5

A standout on the menu is undoubtedly the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang ($15). The coconut rice is aromatic and fluffy, forming the perfect base for the exceptionally tender beef cheek, which is braised until melt-in-the-mouth soft and deeply infused with rempah spices. Paired with classic accompaniments such as sambal, ikan bilis, peanuts and egg, this is a must-order dish that impresses on all fronts.

PehGao26
Fried Spring Rolls 3/5

The Fried Spring Rolls ($5) offer a crisp exterior, deep-fried to a golden brown. However, the radish and carrot filling lacks depth of flavour, making it less memorable than the other dishes.

PehGao35

PehGao42
Pho Ultimate 3.8/5

For something comforting, the Pho Ultimate ($19) features generous chunks of beef short rib alongside flat rice noodles, bean sprouts and fresh herbs in a spiced broth. The broth leans lighter in flavour, but the addition of condiments elevates the overall profile, resulting in a soothing bowl.

PehGao22
Crunchy Chicken Cartilage 3.8/5

Come evening, the space transitions into Orh Gao, where the focus shifts to bar bites and craft brews. The Crunchy Chicken Cartilage ($12) makes for an ideal accompaniment to drinks, with its well-marinated, crispy bites delivering a satisfying crunch and chew, especially when paired with chilli sauce.

PehGao30
Kra Pow Mee Tai Mak 4/5

Equally inventive is the Kra Pow Mee Tai Mak ($15), a creative fusion dish marrying Thai basil chicken with claypot mee tai mak. Each mouthful is packed with bold flavours — aromatic basil, a gentle heat, and the richness of the onsen egg tying everything together.

PehGao44
Curry Mussels 4/5

The Curry Mussels ($21) round off the experience on a comforting note. The fresh mussels are bathed in a sambal butter curry that leans slightly sweet and creamy, accompanied by focaccia bread perfect for soaking up every bit of the sauce.

PehGao2
Craft Beer

Of course, no visit to Orh Gao is complete without exploring its rotating selection of craft beers on tap. The diverse lineup ensures there’s something to suit every palate, making it an inviting spot to unwind.

With its thoughtful concept and well-executed menu spanning both traditional and modern flavours, Peh Gao successfully carves out its identity as both a dependable breakfast spot and a vibrant evening hangout.

Armoury Craft Beer & Steak @ South Beach Quarter - Craft Beer Bar That Offers Spanish Tapas and Wagyu Steaks

TheArmoury19

Armoury at South Beach Quarter started in 2016 as a craft beer speciality bistro. Collaborating with local and international breweries, it introduces a wide range of craft beers, including its very own Armoury Lager and Armoury IPA. The food menu was basic back then, but it has now evolved to include Spanish-style offerings such as tapas, paella and even wagyu ribeye for the gourmands.

TheArmouryBeachRoad-07

Its Armoury IPA is suitable for an easy start, as well as the Watermelon Martini.

TheArmoury9
Madrid Broken Egg 4/5

Our evening started strong with very enjoyable dishes from the Tapas menu. Madrid Broken Egg ($16) is a dish that will cure your hangover and set you up for more alcohol! I love the broken pieces of gooey egg yolks tossed alongside roasted potato chunks and chorizo sausages. It is on the saltier side but deeply satisfying nonetheless.

TheArmoury5
Spicy Mussel Bowl 4.5/5

The Spicy Mussel Bowl ($20) will whet your appetite with its garlic white wine broth. Aromatic with a depth of flavour lent from the white wine, it comes with a fiery kick but is gentle on the taste buds.

TheArmoury13
Gambas al Ajillo 4.5/5

Gambas al Ajillo ($20) was simple, with all three ingredients done well - prawns, olive oil and garlic. The perfectly browned chopped garlic was indeed the flavour bomb, which explained the side toasts to mop up the garlic-infused olive oil.

TheArmoury25
Mediterranean Seafood Paella 4/5

Mediterranean Seafood Paella ($39) is wholesome for mains with prawns, squids and scallops. The rice had a delicious bite, and the various seafood added to that enjoyable texture.

TheArmoury21
Armoury Wagyu + Pork Ribs Set 4/5

When you have a curation of craft beers to choose from, perhaps one way to amp up the experience is to have something luscious and sinfully indulgent. Other than its Spanish-style tapas and mains, what's worth highlighting is its wagyu steaks which are not so commonly available in such places. We had the Wagyu Ribeye and Pork Ribs Set ($95) served with Mentaiko Fries.

TheArmouryBeachRoad-42
Molten Lava Cake 4/5

If you do need a dessert, the Molten Lava Cake($14) is good for sharing.

Dine At Home During Circuit Breaker - Burger & Lobster Singapore

BurgerNLobster1

Around a year or so ago, the F&B scene was full of excitement when Burger & Lobster landed in Singapore. Fans of the lobster roll and burgers need not fly all the way to London to enjoy the food anymore. In fact, with the COVID-19 pandemic and circuit breaker period, you can enjoy them in the comfort of your home now.

BurgerNLobster2
Original Lobster Roll

The takeaway and delivery menu has a couple of different lobster rolls in it. However, I still prefer the Original Lobster Roll, which comes with chilled chunks of lobster meat tossed in their signature lemon mayo served alongside B&L's famous lemon and garlic butter.

BurgerNLobster4
Kale & Quinoa Lobster Salad

I am not really a salad person but the Kale & Quinoa Lobster Salad is one that I have enjoyed. I enjoyed the different textural bites from the quinoa, fig, cranberry and walnuts complemented by the balsamic dressing. It also comes with succulent lobster meat and shavings of radish.

BurgerNLobster3
Miso Burger

As the name of the restaurant suggests, Burger & Lobster is not just all about lobster. Its burgers are as good too. I decided to order the Miso Burger, which I enjoyed. It comes with a Nebraskan beef patty glazed with spicy miso, topped with provolone cheese and served on their signature brioche bun with a lightly spiced guacamole, kale, red chilli flakes and onion.

BurgerNLobster6
B&L Claw and B&L Tri-Tip Bottle Beer

With all the drinking holes closed during the circuit breaker period, you can order bottled craft beers to be delivered to your home too.

Takeaway and island-wide delivery are available. To order visit https://burgerlobster.oddle.me/en_SG

The Dragon Chamber @ Circular Road (Boat Quay) - The Hidden Restaurant Inside A Kopitiam

IMG_7631

The Dragon Chamber has been rebirth at its new location in an assuming kopitiam at Circular Road, hidden behind a glass fridge door. Stepping behind the glass door, diners will be plunged into a world that is reminiscent of Chinatown gambling dens and secret society hangouts. One can also find exotic dishes on the menu such as the crocodile feet and penis.

DragonChamber3
Firecracker Chicken and Maple Fritters 3.8/5

I was told that the Firecracker Chicken and Maple Fritters ($16/$28) is a luxed up version of the chicken and waffle dish which I don't actually get it. It is a La Zi Ji (Sichuan Chilli Chicken) dish with some crispy you tiao drizzled with maple syrup. I can't associate it with the so called chicken and waffle inspiration. Putting the ranting aside, the dish itself is very enjoyable with the spicy kick from the Sichuan peppercorn. The diced chicken which has been deep fried to golden brown was also tender and addictive.

DragonChamber7
Cheeseburger Eggroll 3.5/5

An unique and bold creation is the Cheeseburger Eggroll ($14). Instead of toasted bun, the ingredients in a cheeseburger such as beef, cheese, lettuce and tomato is stuffed into a eggroll skin. It felt more like have a bonito wrap with crispy skin, instead of a burger.

DragonChamber23
Dick Soup 4/5

The name of the dish may sounds vulgar but it is absolutely delicious. The nourishing Dick Soup ($30) features crocodile penis in a chicken and pork based broth that has been double boiled for six hours. If you can overcome the idea of eating the exotic ingredient, it actually tasted like pork rib with a layer of collagen. The soup itself tasted nothing acquire, it is flavourful and packed with essences drawn from boiling the ingredients and herbs for hours.

DragonChamber13
Dragon Mountain 3.8/5

A new dish on the menu is the Dragon Mountain ($88/$138). The whole lobster is fried and tossed in crispy garlic, crushed fermented soybeans, sliced chillis and Sichuan peppercorns. Some commented that it is a waste to mask the freshness of the lobster flesh in the rich flavour. Well, I tend to agree but I also feel it needs to offer something different to entice diners, just like there are different sauces for our favourite local crab dish.

DragonChamber19
The Flaming Pineapple Beef 3.5/5

The Flaming Pineapple Beef ($28) will make a spectacular entry, served in flame. The beef was really tender and juicy. However I found the sauce too sweet for my liking, masking the appreciation of the beef.

DragonChamber21
Wagyu Truffle Beef Hor Fun 4.2/5

DragonChamber9

A must try at The Dragon Chamber is their Wagyu Truffle Beef Hor Fun ($68). This is apparently a new and improved version showcasing wok-fried flat noodles in a moreish truffle gravy. It also comes with slices of A4 Kagoshima wagyu, crispy deep-fried hor fun strips and poached egg. This is a multi-sensual enjoyment packed with flavours and textures. A must order here.

DragonChamber28
Fried Durian 3/5

For dessert, we had the Fried Durian topped with ikura. Encased in the crispy skin is the durian puree. However the durian puree lacked the piquancy in the king of fruit. It also can be sweeter.

Besides the food at The Dragon Chamber, the bar is worthy to check out too. You can find Asian-inspired cocktails such as Crazy for Coconuts, Old Fashion Twist, Mojito Twist, Tea Time and Soda, and Vodka Citrus Soda. It also offers a range of craft beers and ciders including Dragon Chamber exclusive in-house labelled beers - Dragon Pale Ale and Summer Sesh Ale.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
