The Nap Patong Hotel, Phuket

IMG_5655-001

Back in September 2012, I went to Phuket for a short weekend getaway. After some research on tripadvisor, I decided to book my stay at The Nap Patong at Patong Beach. The chic, stylish ambiane and modern minmalist design hotel is located at the tranquil end of Patong Beach. The beach is 5 minutes walk from the hotel while the hectic centre of Patong's dining and entertainment district is about 10 minutes walk.

Massage parlours and restaurants can also be found just a few steps away at the main roads even it is a distance away from the heartbeat of Patong beach.

Love the Tiffany blue theme of the hotel and the spacious check in lobby. There is even beach beds placed at the lobby itself.

Besides the lobby is where the bar and restaurant is located. This is where the morning buffet breakfast is served.

The room is spacious and clean. Love the morning sun shining into the room. It also comes with complimentary wifi.

The bed side comes with an Iphone docking station for one to play their favourite music as well as charging their phone.

Simply love these hotel door hangers.

Although the toilet does not come with a bath tub, it is still quite cozy and big.

For light travellers, The Nap Patong provides complimentary bathroom amenities. Even the shampoo is consistent with the Tiffany blue theme.

My room also comes with a balcony which has a great view of the swimming pool. A perfect day to have a can of beer, rest and relax and enjoy the beautiful view.

The Nap Patong Hotel is a new and pretty well maintained hotel with nice friendly service staffs. It also received a lot of good reviews in tripadvisor. Although the hotel received many good reviews, the location of the hotel which is at the start of Patong beach is still a distance away from the vibrant part of Patong beach.

Barnacles @ Shangri La's Rasa Sentosa Resort

IMG_0065ed

Barnacles of Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa probably is the first among the hotels in Singapore to come up with this brillant fun filled dining package for families to enjoy Sundays on Sentosa from January 2013. The Sunday Garden Party by the Sea includes a seafood buffet spread with a child buffet corner, alongside children's activities. Not only that, diners enjoy complimentary access to the resort's natural water swimming pool, children's slides and splash pad. In addition, free parking for diners 0n a first come first served basis.

Barnacles offers both indoor and al fresco seating. While the indoor air conditioning helps to cool down the sunny Singapore weather, I prefer the outdoor which comes with a scenic sea view. Kids can also be seen running around the compound and enjoying themselves in a host of activities such as balloon sculpting and magic shows while the parents can sit back, relax and enjoy the sumptuous meal.

If you are a cheese lover, you should not miss this. Barnacles has specially imported a selection of over 12 types of gourmet cheese from France.

The buffet spread is basically divided into 2 sections. The indoor buffet spread is where you can find amuse bouche, salad, seafood, cheese and a children buffet corner.

The mult-tiered seafood spread of fresh prawns, Alaskan king crab legs, lobsters and deep sea oysters  stands tall like a red lighthouse.

Being a family oriented restaurant, it is glad to see there is a buffet corner for the children. Kids can help themselves to nuggets, french fries, hot dogs, waffles, sweet and ice cream.

The buffet continues outdoor with cooked food, grill and live stations. Although the buffet selection is not as extensive compared to others, it definitely made up for it with its quality.

My lunch began with some amuse bouche. Among the 4, my favourite was the salmon wrap.

Barnacles serves French Fine de Claire Oysters for their Sunday buffet. The oyster was not as fleshy. It was briny and fresh. Given a choice, I would still prefer my oyster to be creamy and fatter.

Moving on to the cooked food section, I tried the Sea Perch, Roast Pork Belly, Stir Fried Bee Hoon and Deep Fried Nian Gao. As it was Chinese New Year period, Barnacles specially prepared the Nian Gao which was sandwiched in between 2 slices of sweet potato and deep fried. The result was an enjoyable traditional Chinese New Year snack with a medley of textures. The restaurant even served a shooter with watermelon and sprite to clear the palate.

Not to be missed is the Grill section of the buffet. I went for the Lamb Chop but there are other meat and prawn too. The lamb was grilled perfectly, flavoursome and delectable.

A delectable array of desserts and tropical fruits completed the sumptuous buffet feast in the lush gardens by the waterfront.

After lunch, families can enjoy the resort’s swimming pool, children’s slides and splash pad, which employ a particle physics based water management system to keep water at its most pristine and natural form. These facilities are suitable for younger guests without incurring chlorine-related risks such as skin and eye irritations. After a relaxing afternoon swim, guests can enjoy one-for-one drinks at the Siloso Beach Bar from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Sunday Garden Party by the Sea is priced at $138++ per adult. One child 12 or under dines for free when accompanied by a paying adult. $38++ is chargeable for each additional child.
