YakinikuOneIG-6

Yakitori One (鳥萬), a celebrated yakitori establishment from Beijing, opened its first international outlet in Suntec City, Singapore, bringing local diners an authentic Japanese head-to-tail grilling experience. Specialising in every part of the chicken, from the commonly loved thighs and wings to rare cuts like neck meat, heart aorta, and boneless wing tips, Yakitori One offers a unique take on traditional yakitori dining. Open till 2 AM, it's an excellent late-night spot for grilled skewers and drinks. In addition to its à la carte selections, the restaurant offers a $158 omakase menu, available only for dinner, showcasing the best of its skewers and seasonal specialities.

YakitoriOne2

We had the opportunity to experience the Omakase Menu ($158 per pax), which includes two starters, ten skewers, a rice dish, and dessert. Upon being seated, diners are welcomed with a refreshing drink to kickstart the meal.

YakitoriOne5
Otoro with Grated Foie Gras & Uni 4.2/5

The meal began with an Otoro with Grated Foie Gras & Uni, where the luxurious otoro melted effortlessly in the mouth. The rich foie gras and creamy uni elevated the dish, delivering an explosion of flavours.

YakitoriOne8
Snow Crab with Caviar & Yuzu Jelly 4.2/5

The Snow Crab with Caviar & Yuzu Jelly followed. The jelly's zesty flavour balanced the crab's natural sweetness, while the caviar provided a subtle umami depth to round out the dish.

YakitoriOne14
Chicken Tenderloin 4.2/5

Next came the grilled skewers, a highlight of the omakase experience. The Chicken Tenderloin, delicately grilled over charcoal, retained its incredible softness and silkiness. It was topped with ikura roe for a burst of savoury brininess.

YakitoriOne17
Chicken Thigh 4.5/5

The Chicken Thigh had a more pronounced smokiness due to the additional grilling, enhancing its juicy texture.

YakitoriOne23
Chicken Cartilage 4.2/5

YakitoriOne27
Chicken Heart Aorta 4.2/5

The Chicken Cartilage provided a satisfying crunch, while the rare Chicken Heart Aorta delighted offal lovers with its unique chew and rich taste.

YakitoriOne31
Chicken Neck Meat 4.5/5

One of the standouts was the Chicken Neck Meat. Its tender yet slightly firm texture added an extra layer of enjoyment.

YakitoriOne35
Mentaiko Zucchini 4.5/5

To break up the sequence of chicken skewers, the Mentaiko Zucchini was served. The light, crunchy zucchini was topped with torched mentaiko, imparting a rich creaminess that perfectly complemented the vegetable’s freshness.

YakitoriOne39
Chicken Wings 4.2/5

YakitoriOne51
Chicken Tsukune 4.8/5

Returning to the chicken selections, the Chicken Wings reminded us why bone-in skewers are always more aromatic and flavourful, while the Chicken Tsukune was undoubtedly a crowd-pleaser. The juicy chicken meatball skewer, mixed with soft bone for added texture, was paired with an egg yolk dipping sauce, giving it a silky and indulgent finish.

YakitoriOne53
Pineapple 3/5

AA simple grilled Pineapple was served, though it could have been charred more evenly for a more pronounced caramelisation.

YakitoriOne56
Chiba Sweet Potato 4/5

The meal included a Chiba Sweet Potato, an unexpected but pleasant surprise for a change in pace. The naturally sweet and creamy potato provided a hearty contrast to the preceding skewers.

YakitoriOneClaypot-1

YakitoriOne60
Nodoguro and Sakura Ebi Don 4.5/5

The final savoury course was the Nodoguro and Sakura Ebi Don. This fragrant and umami-rich rice dish was deeply satisfying, thanks to its delicate balance of seafood flavours and perfectly cooked rice.

YakitoriOne63
Yuzi Ice Cream 3/5

Finally, a scoop of Yuzu Ice Cream provided a refreshing citrusy sweetness, leaving a light and clean finish to an indulgent yakitori feast.

YakinikuOneIG-2

Yakitori One brings a rare and authentic yakitori omakase experience to Singapore. With meticulously prepared skewers and premium ingredients, it is a must-visit for yakitori lovers and adventurous diners alike. Whether you're looking for an indulgent omakase experience or just craving some late-night skewers, Yakitori One is definitely a spot worth checking out.

Armoury Steaks & Craft Beer Bar @ Orchard Central - Prix Fixe Menu for 2pax from $128

A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye 2

When it comes to indulgent dining experiences, Armoury Steaks & Craft Beer Bar stands out as a haven for food enthusiasts. Renowned for its mouthwatering steaks, this establishment is a must-visit for anyone seeking a hearty meal with elevated flavours.

A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye 4

Starting at $128, the Prix Fixe menu for two offers an excellent introduction to Armoury's speciality. Designed to impress, it features delectable starters, premium mains, and indulgent desserts, creating a memorable dining experience perfect for sharing.

Drinks 1
Blue Pea Lemonade and Yuzu Calpis Fizz 3/5

We began our meal with two refreshing drink options: the Blue Pea Lemonade ($9) and Yuzu Calpis Fizz ($10). Both drinks offered tangy notes that perfectly complemented the richness of the courses ahead, ensuring a balanced start to our feast.

Mushroom Soup 1
Mushroom Soup 3.8/5

The Mushroom Soup opened the meal with a comforting, creamy texture and an aromatic drizzle of truffle oil. Paired with crispy garlic bread, it was a classic yet satisfying start.

Grilled Octopus 1

Grilled Octopus 2
Grilled Octopus 4/5

The highlight of the appetizers was undoubtedly the Grilled Octopus (+$12). Tender octopus pieces were served atop velvety mashed potatoes, enhanced by chimichurri and crunchy radish for a delightful contrast in textures.

Bacon Mac & Cheese 1
Bacon Mac & Cheese 3.8/5

For our pasta choice, we selected the Bacon Mac & Cheese. Topped with tobiko for a unique texture, this dish was indulgently rich. However, the creaminess became slightly overwhelming over time, leading us to think the lighter aglio olio option might be a better choice for future visits.

A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye 1

A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye 3
A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye 4/5

The centrepiece of our meal was the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye (+$60). This 500-gram cut featured an excellent balance of fat and meat, offering buttery tenderness in every bite. While the fat rim may not suit all diners, it can be easily trimmed off if you are not a fan.

Sweet Potato Fries 1

The steak comes with two side dishes from the à la carte menu. We opted for Sweet Potato Fries and Baby Spinach. Although the fries were slightly over-fried, the spinach provided a refreshing balance to the richness of the meal.

Molten Lava Cake 1
Armoury Molten Lava Cake with Ice Cream 4/5

We concluded our feast with the signature Armoury Molten Lava Cake with Ice Cream. Made fresh to order in 15 minutes, the dessert delivered a perfectly molten centre with a hint of sea salt, beautifully paired with creamy vanilla ice cream for a satisfying end to our meal.

Restaurant 2

Dining at Armoury Steaks & Craft Beer Bar is a journey through bold flavours and premium ingredients. Each dish showcases the chef's attention to detail and passion for quality, from the tender Wagyu steak to the indulgent molten lava cake. The restaurant is spacious, with various decorations at each corner, suitable for all occasions.

The Marmalade Pantry @ Tanjong Pagar - Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Refreshed Menu of Light and Vibrant Flavours

IMG_8832

The Marmalade Pantry is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a refreshed menu across its four outlets in Tanjong Pagar, Novena, ION, and Anchorpoint. The menu introduces lighter and more vibrant flavour profiles, incorporating new dishes and enhancements to its signature items.

IMG_8823

The extensive line-up includes a variety of starters, salads, mains, pasta, risottos, and desserts, as well as an updated beverage selection featuring NON, an Australian non-alcoholic wine alternative.

IMG_8824
Red Velvet Latte 3.5/5

I decided on the Red Velvet Latte ($8) as I was curious about adding fresh beetroot to the dark cocoa drink. While it was a tad sweet for me, I appreciated the subtle earthy notes from the beetroot.

IMG_8825
Fried Brussels Sprouts 4/5

We began our meal with the Fried Brussels Sprouts ($16), which had a delightful Japanese twist. The brussel sprouts are dressed in sesame soy kewpie mayo and topped with pickled chillies, nori strips, and sesame seeds.

IMG_8827
Roasted Smashed Sweet Potatoes 4.2/5

Next up was the Roasted Smashed Sweet Potatoes ($16). A fresh dill and chives, yoghurt dressing, and tangy pickled onions nicely balanced the potatoes' natural sweetness.

IMG_8826
Chicken Salad 4.2/5

Another standout starter for me was the Chicken Salad ($23). This vibrant and healthy dish was a colourful mix of fresh salad vegetables, green apples, cherry tomatoes, cashews, and coriander, all tossed in a tangy Viet-Thai dressing. The sous vide chicken strips were particularly tender and well-seasoned.

IMG_8828
Crispy Barramundi 3.8/5

Moving on to the mains, we tried the Crispy Barramundi ($32). The fish was lightly seasoned and paired with stronger aromatics from the masala potatoes and vegetable chutney.

IMG_8829
Chicken Burger 3.8/5

The Chicken Burger ($28) surprised us with its spicy kick. It featured a crunchy chicken thigh sandwiched between soft potato buns, accompanied by tangy slaw and spicy garlic soy. The burger was served with a side of fries and beet-pickled cauliflower.

IMG_8833
Tomato Risotto 4.2/5

Next, we were served with the Tomato Risotto ($26). The risotto was creamy yet not too heavy, thanks to the addition of stracciatella cheese, cherry tomatoes, and a Thai basil salsa. It was a comforting dish.

IMG_8831
Butternut Mac & Cheese 4.5/5

The unanimous favourite of the meal was the Butternut Mac & Cheese ($26). A signature dish of The Marmalade Pantry has been refined in the new menu with a rich truffle cream and blue cheese base, enhanced by sweet roasted butternut squash and a black vinegar glaze. This dish is a wholesome, decadent, and balanced cheese lover's dream.

IMG_8836
Miso Sesame Cupcake 3.8/5

We tried the Miso Sesame Cupcake ($6.50), a new addition to the brand's cupcake range for dessert. The savoury-sweet frosting had a nutty flavour with hints of peanut butter, complementing the moist cake base.

IMG_8835
Green Tea Basque 3/5

Lastly, we ended with a slice of Green Tea Basque ($15). This double-layered baked cheesecake had a top layer of white chocolate and green tea, which balanced the richness of the cheese. However, I found it too sweet for my liking.

The Marmalade Pantry's 25th-anniversary menu refresh has something to offer for everyone, whether you're a fan of their classic dishes or eager to try something new.

G Izakaya @ Golden Mile Tower - 1-for-1 8-Course Japanese Omakase Till 31 May 2024, Featuring Lobster Tail, Chutoro, and Uni Hand Roll

IMG_6461

From now till 31 May 2024, G Izakaya at Golden Mile Tower is offering a value-for-money 8-course Omakase at a promotional price of $188++ for two pax. The restaurant has garnered popularity for its seasonal omakase menus, which are offered at attractive prices.

IMG_6339

It took us a while to locate the restaurant. When facing Golden Mile Tower, veer to the left instead of entering from the main entrance. The cosy 10-seater omakase space is next to their larger izakaya dining area.

IMG_6343
Welcome Drink

We were each given a shot glass of Butterfly Pea Welcome Drink to start. I would have liked this a lot less sweet.

IMG_6349
Hotaru Ika with Yuzu Miso

The starter featured Hotaru Ika with Yuzu Miso. Hotaru ika, currently in season, boasted a rich and briny flavour. It harmoniously paired with the zesty yuzu miso.

IMG_6356
Lobster Tail with Uni Paste & Pan-Fried Scallop

The succulent Lobster Tail was served warm and accompanied by an intriguing combination of uni paste, pan-fried scallop and tempura bananas. This unexpected mix of elements was surprisingly likeable, with the sweetness from the lobster and banana complementing the umami notes of the uni paste.

IMG_6363
3-Kind Sashimi

Next was 3-Kind Sashimi, with fresh and thick cuts of Shima Aji, Akami and Otoro.

IMG_6373
Gindara Saikyo with Sweet Potato

Following that, the chef presented us with the Gindara Saikyo with Sweet Potato. The miso cod was firm yet flaky, and despite the side of shiokoji dressing, we found it to be adequately flavourful on its own.

IMG_6382
Noresore with Mozuku Seaweed

I was excited to try the chef's palate cleanser of Noresore with Mozuku Seaweed, as I had never tried noresore (young conger eel) before. The noresore was light with a subtle sweetness, refreshing when paired with the tangy vinegared seaweed.

IMG_6424
Isaki

The next part of the omakase was the 6-Piece Nigiri Sushi. First was Isaki, a lean cut white-fleshed fish.

IMG_6430
Madai

The Madai was served next. The sea bream was mild with a clean sweetness and became one of my favourites.

IMG_6449
Hirame

The chef lightly torched a piece of engawa for our third sushi to add on top of our Hirame.

IMG_6453
Chutoro

The Chutoro was served with slender strips of delicate young spring onion, which I found particularly enjoyable. The fatty cut of chutoro melted in the mouth.

IMG_6468
Hotate

Lightly dressed in soy, the plump and fresh Hotate will satisfy scallop lovers.

IMG_6476
Uni

The last of our 6-Piece Nigiri Sushi was also a highlight of the meal. The luxurious mouthful of Uni hand roll was layered with sushi rice, chutoro, and a generous scoop of uni, all finished with a spray of gold dust. This was a flavour explosion of the sea.

IMG_6486
Pumpkin Fish Soup with Fish Curd

The soup course varies daily, and during our visit, we were served the Pumpkin Fish Soup with Fish Curd. With its thicker consistency, the warm soup was a comforting closure before desserts.

IMG_6490
Pineapple Sherbet and Warabi Mochi

The desserts didn't quite match the preceding dishes. We tried the Pineapple Sherbet and Warabi Mochi; while the sherbet was refreshing, it was pretty average.

IMG_6497
Pineapple Sherbet and Warabi Mochi

The homemade warabi mochi paired with azuki beans was better, but the combination was slightly too sweet for my liking.

IMG_6444
8-Course Omakase 4.5/5

At this 1-for-1 price point, G Izakaya's omakase offered excellent quality and value. Overall, I thoroughly appreciated the thoughtful curation of the dishes and the quality of the ingredients. I particularly liked how the ingredients' natural flavours are allowed to shine without being overshadowed by additional seasonings.
