Crown Prince Kitchenette @ United Square - Invites All To A Reunion Feast Of Good Fortune For Lunar New Year

CrownPrincelCNY23-15

Crown Prince Kitchenette, located at United Square, is opened by a team of Malaysian Tze Char chefs, woking up an array of authentic Malaysian Tze Char and Chinese cuisine. To welcome the Year of the Rabbit, Crown Prince Kitchenette has put together two set menus catering for group size 5 and 8.

Fortune Abalone Yusheng 3/5

A tradition to kickstart all Lunar New Year meals is the Lo Hei, Diners gathered around the table tossing to a year of prosperity and abundance. Catering for the occasion, Crown Prince Kitchenette has put together the Fortune Abalone Yusheng ($39.80/$69.80).

Marble Goby in Three Delicacies 4/5

Fish is a must in the Lunar New Year meal as it symbolises well-being and prosperity. The Marble Goby in Three Delicacies ($78) is a fitting celebratory dish for the occasion. The three delicacies are marble goby, clam and prawn. The broth has a hint of herbal flavour and is fragrant with loads of garlic. It may not be for those that dislike garlic.

Clams with Basil Leaves 4.2/5

Basil leaves are usually used in Thai cuisine, but their incorporation into the Clams with Basil Leaves ($15.80) gives the shellfish an accentuated aromatic enjoyment.

CrownPrincelCNY23-21
Superior Soy Sauce Prawns 4.5/5

Another beautiful seafood dish on the menu is the Superior Soy Sauce Prawns ($36.80). Deep-fried and stir-fried in superior soy sauce, it gives the prawn's sweetness a boost in taste profile.

CrownPrincelCNY23-8
Dry Fried Green Beans 4.2/5

The Dry Fried Green Beans ($12.80) is a delectable vegetable dish that is fragrant and crunchy.

CrownPrincelCNY23-12
Homemade Tofu with Enoki Mushroom & Scallops 4.5/5

The Homemade Tofu with Enoki Mushroom & Scallops ($11.80) will delight the young and old for its soft and silky texture paired with a robust scallop sauce.

CrownPrincelCNY23-19
Crispy Roasted Sesame Chicken 4.2/5

Crispy on the skin and juicy inside is the Crispy Roasted Sesame Chicken ($38.80). The addition of sesame further enhances the taste profile for a delightful finish.

CrownPrincelCNY23-16
Braised Pork Knuckle 4.5/5

One of my favourite dishes for dinner is the Braised Pork Knuckle ($58). The pork knuckle, well flavoured by the braising sauce, is deliciously tender, paired with snow peas and mushrooms.

Signature Crispy "Chao Ta" Beehoon with Seafood 3.5/5

A signature at Crown Prince Kitchenette is their Crispy "Chao Ta" Beehoon with Seafood ($12.80). It is good, but it lacked the crispiness and wok hei I had at other places.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

The Canopy Cafe @ Marina Bay Golf Course - Chao Ta Bee Hoon, Hokkien Mee, Penang Fried Kway Teow At A Golf Course?

CanopyCafe18

I would never think I would discover The Canopy Cafe at Marina Bay Gold Course as I don't play golf; hence it is not a place I would ever visit. If not for my friends The Ranting Panda, I would not have known of the hidden gem that offers a delicious selection of local zichar dishes.

CanopyCafe-2

The Canopy Cafe located on the second floor is an alfresco cafe with the dining area having a stunning view of the CBD landscape and the golf course.

Johore Fried Bee Hoon 3.8/5

The Canopy has an eclectic menu ranging from Western, Japanese, Snacks and Local dishes. The highlight is their local dishes. Who on earth would imagine you can get a plate of Johore Fried Bee Hoon ($9) or better known to many as "Chao Ta Bee Hoon" in a cafe at Marina Bay Golf Course. Though you could not get that crisp compare to JB Ah Beng, the flavours and smokiness are there.

Penang Fried Kway Teow 4/5

The Penang Fried Kway Teow ($9) fares much better than the Johore Fried Bee Hoon with its wok hei aroma. You can also find prawns, fish cake, egg and beansprouts in the plate of rice noodles. I felt that the generous egg serving further enhanced the flavour.

CanopyCafe3
Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee 4/5

My favourite is the Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee ($9). It serves the wet version with the noodles soaking up the robust prawny stock. My only slight disappointment is the accompanying chilli sauce. I find that it does not go well with the noodle.

CanopyCafe8
Tahu Goreng with Special Sauce 4.2/5

A surprise for me is their Tahu Goreng with Special Sauce ($8.90). Unlike the usual sweet sauce with a lot of peanuts, the deep-fried tofu comes in a pool of red chilli, beansprouts and cucumber. Don't be scare by the sea of red; it is not very spicy. It is kind of sweet, a bit like Thai chilli sauce but it still has the sambal fragrant.

CanopyCafe10
Prawn Paste Fried Chicken Wings 3.5/5

While the Prawn Paste Fried Chicken Wings ($9.90) comes in a crispy batter coat, it lacked the prawn paste flavour. Putting that aside, it is an enjoyment deep-fried chicken wing, crisp and juicy.

In my wildest imagination, I would never expect a cafe at a golf course can dish out such delicious local dishes. It is not easily accessible by public transport but for those that drives, you may like to visit the place as it has a lot of parking with a beautiful dining view. By the way, do not mistake Canopy Cafe with the ones at Bishan Park and Hort Park.
