East Treasure Chinese Restaurant @ Woods Square - Bringing Their Delicious Chinese Cuisine To The North

EastTreasure9

East Treasure Chinese Restaurant at Clarke Quay has opened a new outlet at Woods Square. The Chinese restaurant under the Astons Group has been one of our favourite Chinese restaurants. Together with a few foodie friends, we went down to the new outlet.

EastTreasure6

We started with some light snacks to kick start the dinner. Artisanal done is the Wasabi Mayo Crabstick ($32) served in an ice cream cone. The wasabi is very subtle, overpowered by the pungent mayonnaise. Nothing special to shout about, but I do applaud the modern interpretation of Chinese cuisine.

EastTreasure3
White Bait 3.5/5

EastTreasure5
Prawn Roll 3.8/5

The other two light snacks we have is the White Bait ($24) and Prawn Roll ($24). They are very addictive with their delightfully crispy bites.

EastTreasure12
Double Boiled Crocodile Soup 4.5/5

A signature at East Treasure is their Double Boiled Crocodile Soup ($80). I have been a fan of their tonic that is packed with depth and robustness from the herbal sweetness. If you are not into exotic meat, worry not, as crocodile meat is exactly tasteless like chicken.

EastTreasure15
East Treasure Smoked Duck 4.8/5

Another must-have signature item at East Treasure is the East Treasure Smoked Duck ($58). The duck is dry-aged for 60 hours in their dry-aging cabinet for a more intense flavour with crisper skin. It never failed to impress me.

EastTreasure19
Jian Gu Tou 4.2/5

A new dish on the menu is the Jian Gu Tou ($32) which pig trotters and other pork ingredients such as pig's skin, sio bak etc., are cooked in fermented soy beancurd. It felt like a celebrative festive dish. The sauce brightens up the whole enjoyment though it looks messy.

EastTreasure17
Gan Xiang Yu Tou (甘香鱼头) 4.5/5

Another beautiful dish on the menu is the Gan Xiang Yu Tou. The fish head is chunky and succulent with meaty fish flesh, coated in an aromatic sauce and spices.

EastTreasure22
Stir Fried HK Kai Lan with Enoki 4.2/5

To my surprise, the Stir Fried HK Kai Lan with Enoki ($24) tastes exceptionally delicious and fragrant. I am not sure why but it could be the wok frying skill, retaining the delectable crunchiness.

EastTreasure24
Braised Vermicelli with Seafood 3/5

The Braised Vermicelli with Seafood ($38), unfortunately, was disappointing. The stock for the braised vermicelli lacks in flavour and depth. If they can fine-tune the dish, I am sure it will be another popular dish on the menu.

Cat & The Fiddle Cafe - Unveils Its First Cafe At Woods Square

CatNFiddle6

Cat & the Fiddle is pleased to welcome its first café at Woods Square on 9 March 2021! The café will offer a complete range of the brand's well-loved cheesecakes and NEW outlet-exclusive items such as Cheesy Soft Serve and homemade Waffles complemented with aromatic brews from Tad Coffee Company.

CatNFiddle2
Milo Dinosaur 4/5

We had the Milo Dinosaur (Cone: $6.90; Waffles: $12.90) featuring rich, and velvety Cheesy Soft Serve atop fluffy waffles. It is then gloriously cloaked in Milo powder, Milo cereal and chocolate syrup. It is delicately sweet, wonderfully smooth with a hint of savoury. The soft serve is available in a cone or served atop light and crisp waffles that are freshly made-to-order with founder Daniel Tay's proprietary recipe.

CatNFiddle3
Gula Me Gusta cake 4/5

The entire range is available, including favourites such as Gula Me Gusta (Pandan Gula Melaka), Charred Eclipse (Burnt cheesecake) and The Emperor's Romance (Lychee Rose), available in slices and whole cakes. Customers may also pick up their online orders from the café. We had the Gula Me Gusta Cake ($5.90), reminiscent of the traditional ondeh-ondeh. The luscious pandan-infused cream cheese sits on a base of sweet and savoury gula melaka sponge cake, topped with warm and smoky gula melaka glaze as well as a generous sprinkle of grated coconut.

CatNFiddle4

The café offers a comprehensive list of cuppas and bottled cold brews prepared with beans meticulously roasted locally by Tad, as well as a select range of teas and flavoured Drinking Chocolate. We had their Hazelnut Cafe Latte ($6.50) and White Bottled Cold Brew ($5.80).

Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles @ Marsiling Mall Food Centre - Famous Bak Chor Mee Re-opens In Woodlands

MacphersonMincedPorkNoodles7

A regret I have is not able to try Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles when it was at Serangoon Road. When I heard that the Uncle Yap has come out of retirement and open a new stall at Marsiling Mall Food Centre, I simply just have to drag my lazy feet to the North. No more regret and it is definitely worth the trip.

Mee Pork Dry 4.5/5

I tried the Mee Pok Dry ($4.50) which comes with minced pork, braised mushroom, fish cake slices and pig liver. It may look like an ordinary bowl of noodle but what binds all these ingredients together is the sauce and the doneness of the noodle's texture. Making each mouthful a slurping enjoyment.

MacphersonMincedPorkNoodles15

Besides mee pok, you can order a variety of noodles such as mee kia, mee tai mak and mee sua. Incidentally, we discovered that the mee sua goes very well with the sauce. It soaked the vinegary sauce better, with the tanginess coming through more. I will order mee sua next time.

MacphersonMincedPorkNoodles19

Not forgetting the bowl of soup. It is packed with flavours that are boiled over 3 to 4 hours with old hens, soybeans and anchovies. If you want to really enjoy the soup, I would recommend ordering either the Bak Chor Mee Soup or Xiao Wan Mian (小碗面).

I am glad that Uncle Yap decides to reopen his stall, and I can get to taste his delicious bowl of noodles. Hopefully don't leave any regret like me, go and check it out. Just in case he decides to retire again. By the way, I heard through the grapevine that they are opening another outlet in Serangoon, 1.5 km away from their old stall.

Teochew Meat Puff @ Woodlands Industrial Park, Wave9 - Snaking Queue For Their UFO-shaped Meat Puff

TeochewMeatPuff9

Oyster cake is a rarely seen snack in Singapore nowadays. There probably left only one or two places in Singapore still selling them. If I am not wrong, one is in Maxwell hawker centre, and the other is at Jalan Besar hawker centre. Thanks to MissTamChiak, I get to know another new stall - Teochew Meat Puff in Woodlands Industrial Park selling this delicious snack.

TeochewMeatPuff7

Teochew Meat Puff used to operate at Pasar Malams, it has no choice but to change its business model, settling into a permanent stall in a coffeeshop at Wave9 building in Woodlands Industrial Park under the current COVID pandemic.

TeochewMeatPuff2

TeochewMeatPuff1

Be prepared to queue if you plan to try the UFO-shaped meat puff. The latest I heard the wait is up to 2 hours now. The stall owner, Keith, will pour a layer of rice batter into a metal spatula, followed by the meat mixture, celery and another layer of rice batter to cover it. Peanuts are then sprinkled on top before sending it into the hot oil, deep-fried to a golden brown. If you observed each meat puff carefully, you would notice that the peanuts pattern help to differentiate the different flavours.

TeochewMeatPuff8
Oyster Pork Meat Puff

All together the stall sells 6 different flavours of meat puff. They are Oyster Pork ($3.50), Prawn Pork ($3.50), Octopus Pork ($3.50), Crab Pork ($3.50), Scallop Pork ($4) and Vegetable ($2).

TeochewMeatPuff21
Octopus Pork Meat Puff

The meat puff is crispy on the exterior with juicy pork filling. My favourite is the pork and oyster filling. I find the briny taste of the oyster complements the savoury pork filling better than the rest. I will go for the pork and octopus if you prefer a more textural enjoyment in each bite. Last but not least, don't forget to have it together with the chilli sauce.

The last I check on Teochew Meat Puff Facebook page, the stall owner, is very apologetic to his customers for the long wait. They are currently trying to negotiate with the coffeeshop to take up the space beside their stall so that they can add extra equipment to deep-fried more meat puff. You may not know, but each meat puff takes about 15 minutes.
