Wolfgang's Steakhouse @ Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay - Serving Prime USDA Black Angus Dry Aged Beef

WolfgangsSteakhouse8

The renowned Wolfgang's Steakhouse from New York City has finally arrived on our shore. The steakhouse prides themselves for serving only USDA Prime Beef that has been dry aged for 28 days. The family-run restaurant, started by father-son duo, Wolfgang and Peter Zwiener, brings over 5 decades of experience with steakhouses.

I was honoured to witness the opening ceremony of the steakhouse and get to meet both Wolfgang and Peter Zwiener.

Wolfgang's Steakhouse's prime USDA Black Angus meat is dry aged in a proprietary designed aging room for 28 days. Once the beef has reached maturity after almost a month, an in-house butcher carves the meat to size before cooking to order at 1600-degrees Fahrenheit on a grill broiler to seal the meat's juicy succulence and flavour.

The steak has a caramelized crust on the outside and melt in the mouth tender meat on the inside. It also comes with a distinct deep and nutty flavour. Wolfgang's Steakhouse also offers a selection of signature side dishes such as Creamed Spinach, Sauteed Broccoli, German Potatoes and Sauteed Mushrooms to go with the tender meat.

Besides the steak, I also tried the Lamb. I was actually quite surprised how well and tender the lamb was cooked. While my dining companions do not quite like the strong lamb taste, I actually enjoyed the rich flavour of the meat. However, I thought a little bit more char to the exterior will be even nicer.

If you are not a meat lover, do not despair. Wolfgang's Steakhouse offers seafood items on their menu such as Salmon. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. Good for sharing is the Seafood Platter which consists of jumbo shrimp, fresh Maine lobster and jumbo lump crabmeat.

The interiors of the new restaurant in Singapore pay tribute to the original New York institution with solid walnut floors, a rich mahogany bar, imported Italian chandeliers and mosaic-tiled details. The restaurant offers lunch, happy hour and dinner daily, and will soon be launching brunch menu on weekends. It also has two private rooms for parties or exclusive dinner events which may be reserved in advance.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

Bedok Corner Hokkien Prawn Mee @ Bedok Corner Food Centre - A Delicious Plate Of Goodness

IMG_1424

For someone staying in the West, Bedok Corner Food Centre is somewhere I hardly venture to in the far East. Little do I know much about the hawker centre except for the Cheng Tng stall. Without any clue what else is good at the hawker centre, I decided to try Bedok Corner Hokkien Prawn Mee which has a queue.

Hokkien Prawn Mee

A plate of the Hokkien Prawn Mee ($4/$5) comes with squid, prawn, beansprouts, egg and pork lard. Most hokkiem mee stalls use a mix of yellow noodle and thick beehoon but over here, the stall uses the thin beehoon. Without a good control of the wok, it is easy to get the beehoon burnt. Hence I really have to applaud the skill of the stall owner.

The other reason why I like about the use of the thinner beenhoon is that it can absorb the stock better. Every strand of the noodles seem to be coated with the sweet robust stock. However for the chilli, I am not a fan of it. I think it can be better.

The other thing I like about the plate of hokkien prawn me is their fried egg, buried together with the pile of noodles. The aroma of the fried egg provides the extra oomph to the whole dimension of the dish.

Overall, this is a good plate of hokkien prawn mee. I am glad that my trip to the far East was not wasted. I really enjoy the plate of wet and flavoursome hokkien prawn mee.
