IMG_6795ed

Completing Antoinette's La Croissainterie series is three new flavours - Charcoal Kaya Croissant, Matcha Croissant and Quatre Fromages (4 Cheeses) Croissant. The 3 new members joined the other 4 members - Salted Egg Croissant, Chilli Crab Croissant, Scallion Arlette and Salted Caramel Croissant which was launched earlier in February and March.

Charcoal Kaya Croissant

Inspired by the traditional breakfast of kaya and toast, Chef Pang created the charcoal infused croissant.  The Charcoal Kaya Croissant ($6) houses a delightful lava of Antoinette's house made kaya.

Quatre Fromages (4 Cheeses) Croissant

The Quatre Fromages Croissant ($6) comes with 4 different types of cheeses. There are cheddar, gruyere, parmesan and mozzarella. The well balanced sharp, savoury and salty flavours received many thumbs up from the group.

Matcha Croissant

Using high quality matcha powder from Nishio in the Aichi prefecture, Chef Pang created the Matcha Croissant ($6) which comes with a smooth concoction of custard and matcha powder. Green tea lover will like the rich and bitter taste of the matcha.

Cheng Heng Kway Chap And Braised Duck Rice @ Holland Drive Food Centre

IMG_6787ed

At Holland Drive Food Centre, there are two stalls selling Kway Chap. One of them is Cheng Heng Kway Chap And Braised Duck Rice. This stall seems to have a longer queue compare to the one about 2 stalls away. When I was there, the stall was man by two aunties probably in their late 40s to 50s.

Kway 4/5

The Kway or rice sheet is smooth and soft. It is served in a bowl of richly flavoured braised broth and topped with a generous serving of fried shallots.

Salted Vegetable 3.5/5

I usually like to order some Salted Vegetables to go with kway chap. The salted vegetable is cooked to a enjoyable softness. The saltiness also helps to cut through the rich braised sauce.

Kway Chap 4/5

The Kwap Chap for 2 pax comes with pork belly, pig skin, small and big intestines, egg, tau pok, tofu, pig stomach, and duck meat. All together, the meal for 2 pax costs only $12. The different ingredients were well braised, soaking up the rich and flavourful sauce. Among all the braised ingredients, the stood out is the melted in the mouth braised pork belly and the succulent braised duck.

Overall, the kway chap at Cheng Heng Kway Chap And Braised Duck Rice is worth the queue and wait. For $12 and the portion being served, I think it is quite reasonable priced too.
