Little Hiro @ Bukit Timah Road

IMG_2528ed

Inspired by a trip to Hawaii, the owner of Burger Shack decides to revamp the concept offering Hawaiian-Japanese BBQ and Grill as well as renaming the cute little restaurant as Little Hiro. Fans of Burger Shack need not worry as their popular burgers is still available in the revamped menu.

Chicken Karaage 3.5/5

With the new menu and concept, Little Hiro has introduced 2 Shio Ramen Burger using Japanese ramen specially air flown into Singapore. I tried both the Sanzoku Black Pepper Beef ($8.90) and Chicken Karaage ($8.90). The burgers were definitely an interesting introduction to the burger scene however there is a flaw in the concept. The ramen burger is too messy to handle and eat. I collapsed upon handling. Between the 2 ramen burgers, my favourite was the Chicken Karaage which was more juicy and flavourful. The beef patty somewhat was gamy and tough.

Chicken Wings 3.5/5

For some light snacks, the Chicken Wings ($3.50 for 2 /$6.50 for 4) were big and juicy. Deep fried to a nice golden brown crisp, a delightful bite at Little Hiro.

Fried Calamari 3/5

The Fried Calamari ($7.90) comes with a nice thin batter that was deep fried to a nice crispy bite.

Sanzoku Double Hamburg Steak 3/5

From the Teppanyaki Rice Plates section of the menu, this is a one plate meal that is reasonable priced to satisfy one's hungry tummy. Unfortunately the Sanzoku Double Hamburg Steak ($8.20) used the same patty as the ramen black pepper beef burger which was not to my liking. The garlic butter Japanese rice on the hand was fragrant but could be richer in seasoning.

Flame Seared Teriyaki Salmon 3/5

The Flame Seared Teriyaki Salmon ($10.90) while value for money with the big slab of salmon, unfortunately was overcooked and needed a more fitting sauce to go with it.

While I was at Little Hiro, I observed that most of the patrons were students and younger crowd. I do not find the food top notch but definitely value for money with its huge servicing portion.

Pisco @ Resort World Sentosa (RWS)

IMG_3073ed

Located at Resort World Sentosa, PISCO South Amercian Kitchen and Bar is a family style restaurant offering South American cuisine inspired by native Amercian fare and food from Andes Mountains. The restaurant is named after the port of a colonial town in Peru transporting guests to the heart of South America with its vivid design elements.

Pisco Sour 4.2/5

The restaurant comes with a bar that serves up a variety of signature Pisco cocktails. I have a pre-dinner drive starting with the iconic Pisco Sour ($15) which is a mix of pisco, lime juice, sugar, egg white and Angostura. A very refreshing and easy to drink cocktail.

IMG_3079ed
Langostino 4.5/5

Quintessential to South Amercian cuisine is the selection of ceviches on the menu, a raw seafood dish marinated in lemon juice, lime and spiced with chilli peppers. The Langostino ($13) is served in a coconut leche broth and topped with fried banana. The prawns were fresh, crunchy and came with a rich coconut and tangy burst of flavours.

IMG_3078ed
Pulpo 4/5

The Pulpo ($13), octopus in olive sauce and capers is another beautiful ceviche that comes with a rich flavour.

IMG_3076ed
Conchas Borrachas 2.8/5

I was actually a bit disappointed with the Conchas Borrachas ($13). The Pisco drunk sea scallops with passion fruit sauce and chilli somewhat lost its sweetness in the alcohol high scallop resulting in a bitter taste.

IMG_3085ed
Empanada 4/5

Moving on to the Tapas menu, I tried the Empanada ($14) which is a stuffed pastry with minced beef.
Shaped and tasted similar to our local curry puff, the well marinated minced beef made it a very delightful snack.

IMG_3087ed
Bolas De Yuca 4/5

The Deep Fried Cheese Balls with Cassava Mayo, Bolas De Yuca ($14) is fried to a nice gold brown. Paired it with the cassava mayo dip to fully enjoy these crispy bites.

IMG_3096ed
Los Pinchos 4/5

The highlight at Pisco probably is the Los Pinchos or Skewer Sets where guests can select a combination of 3 skewers of meat, vegetables and seafood. It is served with mint salsa, salsa criolla or Amarillo chilli. I tried the Pork Belly ($12), Lamb Shoulder ($16), Beef Ribeye ($21), Salmon ($16) and Chicken Thigh ($10). My favourite was the Salmon, Chicken Thigh and Pork Belly. They were well marinated and perfectly grilled, tender and succulent.

IMG_3093ed
Grilled Corn 4/5

IMG_3097ed
Jacked Potatoes 3/5

Add to the skewer sets with a selection of sides such as the Grilled Corn ($9) and Jacked Potatoes ($9). Nothing fancy but a good complement for all the meats on skewers. I like that the grilled corn are served with butter and parmesan cheese on the side where I can spread as much of it on the corn.

IMG_3101ed
Churros with Hot Chocolate Sauce 4.5/5

Finished up dinner with the classic Churros with Hot Chocolate Sauce ($9). The fried dough pastry sprinkled with sugar is definitely a crowd pleaser with its crunchy bite and chocolate dip.

The convivial ambience at Pisco makes it a perfect dining stop to experience the spirit of South Amercia. If you have a big appetite, you can try the All You Can Eat Freshly Grilled Skewers ($59 for 1pax/ $98 for 2pax/ $138 for 3pax/ $178 for 4pax)
