Bravery Cafe @ Horne Road

IMG_0358ed

Is this a cafe? Where is the sign board? Where is the door? That is the usual question if it is your first time at Bravery Cafe. If not for my friends that have been here and seeing picture of the cafe front on social media, I would have totally missed this place. In fact, I did miss the place and my friend has to remind me that we actually walked past the cafe earlier when we went to check out another cafe further down the road. By the way Bravery Cafe is opened by the same people from the The Plain.

Lavender Latte 3.8/5

The Lavender Latte ($5.50) was interesting but I regretted getting it. Not that it was bad but being a coffee lover, I prefer to enjoy the bittersweet taste of the caffeine then the perfumed lavender essence that was added into the coffee. However I still can taste that it was a good cup of coffee. So stick to the real stuff and avoid the gimmicks.

Raunchy Eggs 2/5

I did not enjoy the Raunchy Eggs ($14) at all. It came with a pile of shredded raw cabbage, tortilla shell, 2 sunny eggs, spicy beans and anchovies. The taste was a bit acquire for me. I particularly did not enjoy the raw cabbage. I found it hard to appreciate the whole concept of the dish not to mentioned it is quite pricey for 2 eggs and some sides.

Bravery Pancake Stack 4/5

I have read bad reviews about the food at Bravery Cafe so I was not having much high expectation with the Bravery Pancake Stack ($15) especially after the disappointment with the raunchy eggs. To my surprise, the pancakes were fluffy and moist. I like the added pistachio giving it a nice nutty taste and texture. We added another $3 for the honeycomb which was not necessary. The sweet bananas and maple syrup is already way good for the pancakes.

Overall I think Bravery Cafe is still worth checking out. Its bare and simple interior and a hard to find cafe front gives the cafe a form of character which is different from others. Most important they serve a cup of good coffee.

W39 Bistro & Bakery @ Jalan Mas Puteh (West Coast Road)

IMG_9992ed

People staying in the West must be rejoiced when the relax, casual and chirpy cafe opened in their neighbourhood. The place has a lazy but yet sunshine ambience with its white, blue and yellow themed cafe. W39 Bistro & Bakery is hidden from the main street, the cafe is located away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.

Caffe Latte 4.2/5 Ribena Lemon Twist 4/5

I ordered a cup of Caffee Latte ($4.50) which was strong, bittersweet but not overly acidic. While my partner has refreshing Ribena Lemon Twist ($4.50).

Wagyu Burger 4/5

As I was pretty hungry, I had the Wagyu Burger ($20) with fries. The wagyu patty was quite juicy but I thought I can be more flavourful and cheesy. I like my burger to be messy.

Salted Caramel Cake 4/5

My partner has the Salted Caramel Cake ($6.80) which I took a few bites. Many of my friends will know not I am not a dessert, pastry or cake person. The fact that I will go back for a few bites mean that the cake was good. It was not too sweet, nicely balanced in flavour, dense and moist.

The cozy cafe is one of the better cafes I have visited so far. The ambience, food and coffee got all the ticks in my scorecard. If not for the fact that I stay in the East, I would probably be spotted regularly at W39 Bistro & Bakery.
