Silver Shell Cafe @ Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort

IMG_5415

When I received the tasting invitation from Shangri-La, I jumped to the opportunity to check out the place since I have never dined at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort. Gone were the days where the restaurant were at the different floors of the property. After the multi million makeover, the new Dine on 3 brings one an unique dining concept with a cluster of restaurants and a bar under one roof at level 3 of the resort.

The tasting invitation was to introduce Silver Shell Cafe's "Meet the Meat" Wednesday theme. Every Wednesday dinner time, diners can indulge themselves in an array of meat selections and cooking styles.

Pork Knuckles and Sausages

A section of the restaurant just behind the reception is dedicated for the amazing display of the meats. A hugh selection ranging from pork knuckes, sausages, lamb rack, beef tenderloin, duck confit, roast chicken, roast tomhawk veal and many more.

All the roasts, rosemary and the orange lighting just gave me a very Christmas feel in the whole setup.

Roast Tomahawk Veal

The huge Roast Tomahawk Veal was the most eyes catching of the night and I simply couldn't resist  having a slice of it.

Look at all the lovely and beautiful cuts of the meats from the various Meet the Meat selections. My personal favourite was the sausages, beef tenderloin and duck confit. The pork knucles and lamb were good too...oh my god, I just didn't have the stomach to eat them all.

The buffet is not just about meat. Just like any other buffet spread, there were salads, cold cuts, appertisers, cooked food, local fare and desserts too.

The laksa is a MUST TRY here. The laksa broth was robust with dried shrimp flavour.

For the sweet tooth, a decent selection of desserts are available on the buffet spread too.

Worth mentioning is the buffet line at Silver Shell Cafe has a section specially children friendly designed. Both the savoury and sweet food are laid out on a comfortable height for the children to help themselves. Even the plates, bowls and cutlery are in plastic materials. The whole concept is to allow parents to enjoy their meal while knowing their children is safe and being taken care of.

Zhong Yu Yuan Wei Wanton Noodle @ Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre

IMG_5076

For the seek of planning the next Hawker Trail at Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre, I went back to the food centre to check out some of the stalls and also to make sure that they are open on Sunday. Maureen was kind enough to help me out and so we were down at the food centre to have lunch and did some inital planning.

Char Siew Wanton Noodle 4.5/5

After waiting for a good 30 minutes, the bubbly Maureen came running to me with a plate of Char Siew Wanton Noodle ($5). Derrick! Derrick! I got the "Bu Jian Tian Char Siew (不见天叉烧)" I was like question marks all over my face. She explanined to me that this is the part of the pig that does not see the sky, the pig's armpit. It was the last piece which the stall owner wanted to save it for himself but was kind enough to sell it to her.

Indeed the Char Siew was beautifully marbled with a layer of fats around it. The char siew is more tender and juicy with a well marinated colour and a tad of charred aroma. I am afraid I have raised the bar for a good piece of char siew after having Bu Jian Tian Char Siew.
