Alegria @ Teck Lim Road - New Menu Brings Brazilian Flair and Filipino Soul Together

IMG_3783

Alegria, located at the heart of Keong Saik district, specialises in Latin Asian cuisine reimagined with Asian and European influences. Their newly launched menu draws from Peruvian, Mexican, and Brazilian flavours, with unmistakable Filipino touches woven throughout.

IMG_3741
Pão de Queijo 5/5

We started with a brilliant lineup of starters. The Pão de Queijo ($15), Brazil's iconic cheese bread, arrived warm and chewy, served with house-fermented basil butter. The herbaceous butter beautifully complemented the cheesy interior, making these morsels utterly moreish.

IMG_3792
Coxinha 5/5

Next came the Coxinha ($16), a classic Brazilian chicken croquette and a first for me. I braced for a heavy, cheesy filling, but Alegria's version surprised me with its lightness. Encased in a crisp crust, the mashed potato dough encased a well-seasoned shredded chicken filling that had a subtle curry-like warmth. The balance of crunch, fluff and spice all come together in each bite, deliciously satisfying without being cloying.

IMG_3761
Sisig Taco 4.5/5

Alegria truly shines with its tacos. Made fresh in-house from corn flour, the tortillas were soft, warm, and gently fluffy. The Sisig Taco ($19) offered a creative spin on the Filipino staple, topped with zesty salsa and a creamy dinakdakan sauce. While the pork belly had a tougher bite than expected, almost like fried pancetta, the flavour was spot on, savoury and vibrant.

IMG_3773
Pescado Taco 4.5/5

The Pescado Taco ($19) showcased firm but tender and flaky Baja-style fried fish encased in a light, crisp batter. A zingy salsa and sweet charred corn brought brightness and contrast, while the chipotle mayo tied everything together with a smoky, creamy finish.

IMG_3813

IMG_3819
Seafood Moqueca 3.5/5

Among the mains, the Seafood Moqueca ($34) was a comforting Brazilian seafood stew, especially when paired with savoury sinangag rice. Vibrant with the flavours of capsicum and curry, the prawns were cooked just right. It was succulent and tender. However, the stew leaned noticeably sweet overall. A touch of acidity or heat helped cut through the richness and brought better balance to the dish.

IMG_3838
Pollo Asado 5/5

The standout main was the Pollo Asado ($34), which consisted of a woodfire-grilled half chicken glazed in achiote and cilantro crema. Instead of grilling the chicken whole, it was portioned into three, allowing each piece to achieve deeper caramelisation and smoky char. Juicy and flavourful, it was elevated further by adding tangy pineapple kimchi that cut through the richness of the crispy skin.

IMG_3863
Churros 5/5

We ended on a sweet note with Churros ($15) served with a Dulce de Leche dip. Perfectly fried, they were crispy outside and airy inside. These were among the best I've had, leaving a lasting impression.

NA OH @ Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) - A Unique Korean Fine Dining Experience at a Conventional Automotive Production Facility

Naoh35

Located within the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS), Na Oh has quickly become one of the most sought-after restaurants in town. This exclusive dining destination is a collaboration between Hyundai and Chef Corey Lee, the first Korean chef to earn three Michelin stars for his renowned San Francisco restaurant, Benu.

NaohIG-2

Na Oh offers a four-course prix fixe seasonal menu. Guests can opt for Jinjitsang, a traditional Korean meal setting with an array of accompaniments. We recently visited to experience their Winter Menu, a showcase of refined Korean flavours.

Naoh7
Homemade Tofu with Aged Soy Sauce 4.2/5

Our meal began with the Homemade Tofu with Aged Soy Sauce. The highlight was undoubtedly the aged soy sauce, which provided deep umami notes that enhanced the soft, silky tofu, making for a simple yet elegant dish.

Naoh10

Naoh17
Buckwheat and Mugunji Jeon 4.2/5

Next, we had the Buckwheat and Mugunji Jeon, served with a salad of freshly harvested lettuce. This was a unique take on Korean pancakes — paper-thin with a crisp exterior. The accompanying vinegary dipping sauce was essential, adding brightness and acidity that balanced the flavours.

Naoh19
Chilled Hand-Pulled Somyeon 4.8/5

A light and refreshing dish, the Chilled Hand-Pulled Somyeon featured silky noodles in a lightly fermented kimchi broth, delivering a delicate tang. The dish was completed with braised octopus and beef tendon, adding contrasting textures and richness.

NaohIG-12

For the Jinjitsang, diners can choose from three main options:

1. Grilled Jeju Beltfish with Golden Queen’s Rice
2. Galbijjim Finished Over Charcoal
3. Pheasant Mandu Soup with Freshly Milled Rice Cakes (which we did not try)

Naoh26
Spicy Winter Seafood Stew with Pollock Roe and Cod Milt 4.5/5

Naoh25
Grilled Jeju Beltfish 5/5

Naoh32
Seaweed Gyeran Mari, Bellflower Root Muchim 4.2/5

The Grilled Jeju Beltfish with Golden Queen's Rice was a beautifully executed dish, allowing the fish's natural sweetness to take centre stage. The Beltfish was grilled to perfection, with its delicate flesh remaining moist and tender, complemented by a lightly crisped skin. Accompanying the fish was an array of thoughtfully prepared side dishes that added depth to the meal. The Spicy Winter Seafood Stew with Pollock Roe and Cod Milt stood out with its bold flavours, while the Bellflower Root Muchim introduced a slightly bitter, earthy contrast. The Seaweed Gyeran Mari, a soft rolled omelette infused with umami-rich seaweed, added a comforting touch to the meal.

NaohIG-15

Naoh36
Galbijjim 5/5

Naoh44
Preserved Maesil Geotjeori 4.2/5

The Galbijjim Finished Over Charcoal was equally satisfying for those who prefer a meat option. The Hanbang-style Beef Short Ribs were braised in aged soy sauce, resulting in exceptionally tender meat infused with a deep, savoury aroma, enhancing the dish's richness and making each bite incredibly flavourful. It was served alongside Chestnut and Thistle Sotbap, a nutty and earthy rice dish that complemented the robust galbijjim. The Preserved Maesil Geotjeori provided a bright, tangy contrast that helped balance the meal, ensuring that every element worked harmoniously together.

Naoh46
Winter Hwachae of Jeju Citrus, Naju Pear, Pomegranate

To wrap up the meal, we enjoyed the Winter Hwachae, a vibrant Korean fruit bowl featuring Jeju Citrus, Naju Pear, and Pomegranate. Its natural sweetness and refreshing acidity made it a perfectly light and invigorating dessert.

Na Oh delivers an elevated yet deeply rooted Korean dining experience, blending traditional techniques with modern refinement. With its seasonal menus and hard-to-secure reservations, dining here is a rare treat worth experiencing.

Brewerkz @ One Fullerton - Brand New Look and a Refreshed Menu Offering Modern European Dishes Infused with Local Flavours

IMG_7201

Brewerkz at One Fullerton has recently reopened with a brand-new look and a refreshed menu, offering modern European dishes infused with local flavours. The updated menu introduces a range of bar bites, small plates, and mains that cater to a diverse palate.

IMG_7244
Salted Egg Mermaid Fish 3.5/5

The Salted Egg Mermaid Fish, Crispy Tofu Fritters, and Baby Squid & Calamari are some new additions to the Bar Bites. The Salted Egg Mermaid Fish ($12) delivered a satisfying crunch without being overly sauced, but the salted egg flavour was a tad too subtle.

IMG_7236
Crispy Tofu Fritters 3.5/5

The Crispy Tofu Fritters ($12), more like tofu fries, were sprinkled with Szechuan peppercorn and sesame. While the peppercorn wasn't very pronounced, the sesame provided a savoury-sweet contrast that worked well.

IMG_7232
Baby Squid & Calamari 3.5/5

The Baby Squid & Calamari ($18) combined the best of both worlds with a well-seasoned batter, although the accompanying sour plum mayo dip lacked the expected sour plum notes.

IMG_7252
Memphis Baby Back Ribs 4.5/5

IMG_7262
Nasi Lemak Focaccilla 2/5

We had a couple of appetisers - Nasi Lemak Focaccilla ($22) and Memphis Babyback Ribs ($20). The Nasi Lemak Focaccilla, intended to be a hybrid of focaccia and quesadilla, turned out more like a dry quesadilla with a thin spread of rendang and hardboiled egg bits. However, the Memphis Babyback Ribs were a standout, with tender meat glazed in a smoky BBQ sauce that was finger-licking good.

IMG_7269
Wagyu Steak & Frites 4/5

The mains offered a more refined dining experience. The Wagyu Steak & Frites ($74) was satisfying, with a beautifully grilled Wagyu Ribeye (MBS4-5) that rendered enough fat to deliver a rich, buttery flavour, enhanced by a red wine reduction and a hint of smokiness. The chunkier Sidewalker Fries were a great complement to the steak.

IMG_7278
Apple Bacon Pork T-Bone 2.8/5

The Apple Bacon Pork T-Bone ($34) was served with apple bacon sauce, onion chutney, and confit potatoes. While the fruity sweetness of the apple bacon sauce helped cut through the pork's richness, the gaminess was a bit overwhelming. The buttery, soft confit potatoes, however, were indulgent and enjoyable.

IMG_7298
Pugliam Seafood Stew 2/5

Unfortunately, the Pugliam Seafood Stew ($36) was disappointing, presenting itself as more of a pasta-in-cream dish. It seemed hastily prepared, with orecchiette pasta, bits of fish, squid rings, sliced scallops, and prawns thrown into a weak cream sauce. The broth lacked the depth of flavour, and the prawns should have at least been deveined for the price.

IMG_7309
Sour Cherry Crumble 4.2/5

The highlight of the evening was the Sour Cherry Crumble ($18). It was divine, with a base of dark tart cherries topped with sweet, chunky walnut crumble and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
