With the moving out Ah Hoe Mee Pok (the stall runs by Mr Naoji's son) to Cantonment Road, another new stall has taken over and it is non other than Guan's Mee Pok. If you have not known, Eric Chia founder of Guan's Mee Pok and Ah Hoe Mee Pok is the master of Mr Naoji, the Japanese Mee Pok man that you probably have seen in many media platforms.

Song Garden is  a new Cantonese restaurant that has opened on the second level of the new Mercure Singapore Bugis hotel. Taking almost the entire floor, it can sit up to 120 people with seven private rooms. The new Chinese restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Wong Shea Nung and Executive Dim Sum Chef Leung Chi Man. If you are a fan of East Ocean Seafood Restaurant's dim sum, you may be interested to know that Chef Leung has moved to Song Garden to be the Executive Dim Sum Chef.

One of the latest creation at KEK Seafood is their Oriental Burger, giving the western fare an Asian twist. A total of seven different burgers are created incorporating Asian techniques into the burger. I had the Pai Gu Wong Burger ($9) which comes with a huge piece of tender and juicy pork in a sweet sauce, sandwiched between 2 toasted buns. It turned out surprisingly good. Other burgers available on the menu are Salted Egg Chicken Burger, Marmite Chicken Burger, Coffee Pork Burger, Salted Egg Pork Burger, Sambal Beef Burger, Salted Egg Sotong Burger. For a mere $9, it comes with pickles and a drink.

The ART (Assumption Restaurant for Training) is not your usual restaurant. Located inside Assumption Pathway School at Cashew Road, the restaurant provides the training ground for the students to put their F&B knowledge and skills into practice. The ART is a casual dining restaurant that offers 3-Course set lunch and High Tea Set on weekdays and during school terms. All prices here are nett. The ART has recently extended its operating hours on Fridays (during school term) to include dinner. Set dinner will be served for dinner except on the last Friday of each month, where it is replaced with Porridge Buffet. I was there on the last Friday of March to check out the Porridge Buffet which is priced at only $12 nett.

Probably the only place in Singapore where you can find sourdough baked traditional in a wood fired oven. Four types of sourdoughs are available from the oven. Complementing the sourdoughs are a selection of small plates and big plates, showcasing contemporary dishes cooked with traditional European techniques.

The first ramen eatery to be awarded a Michelin Star, Tsuta has opened its second outlet at 18 Tai Seng. Unlike its first outlet that offers the shoyu soba and shio soba, the new outlet offers the new miso soba together with its signature shoyu soba. As per my earlier review, Singaporean may not be used to the type of ramen offered by Tsuta but the new miso soba is closer to what we have grown up eating with, the rich and creamy tonkotsu style.

The cafe at Lavender has extended their opening on Friday and Saturday to offer dinner. Although the dinner menu is limited, the dishes are well presented and plated. Although some dishes needed some refinement, I think it has potential if a little more effort is put into the cooking.

Used to be located at The Rail Mall, Restaurant Home has moved to Changi. The new location has a new kampong vibe to it. Besides the indoor dining area, the restaurant also has an alfresco area with a bar. A separate menu has also been put together focusing on barbecued items. While Chef Tan has retained most of his signature items of the menu, he has also incorporated new items inspired by the kampong surrounding, bring cooking to its basic and showcasing the natural flavours of the ingredients.

Recommend Item: La La Crispy Rice, Hot-Stone Sauteed Pig Liver, Baked Chicken with Herbal Sea Salt.

In the blink of an eye, we are in the 4th edition of the Monthly Grub Recommendation. For this March 2017 listing, I am recommending 6 new restaurants that have opened recently which I have visited and enjoyed the food there. On top of that, 2 restaurants have refreshed their menu which is worthy of a visit. Time flies and we are into our third series of our Monthly Grub Recommend. For February's recommendation, we have 7 new establishments, 2 new menu and 1 relocation. I am rather surprise with the number of new cafe, restaurants that have opened. I thought everyone is saying the economy is not good. I even remembered reading a report saying we are in technical recession. It really make me wonders why there are still new cafes and restaurants opening in Singapore.

The former Seletar Airbase or better known as Seletar Airport has been transformed into a F&B and lifestyle destination. The black and white colonial bungalows, together with the lush greenery, felt as if one is being transported to the English countryside. Occupying the former home of the Royal Air Force's Tech Wing Command, is the site of The Summerhouse. The Summerhouse is an integrated multi-concept destination comprising The Summerhouse Dining Room and Balcony Bar located on the upper storey; and Wildseed, a cafe, patisserie and bar on the ground level.

Botanico at The Garage is located in a conservation building within Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site - Singapore Botanic Gardens, that was built in the 1920s.The restaurant offers a contemporary-bistro seasonality driven menu. The kitchen is helmed by Spanish-born Chef Antonio Oviedo. A visit to The Garage is not complete without checking out the hidden bar on the 2nd level at Botanico. The alfresco bar area is actually air conditioned! It has definitely set a new benchmark of outdoor dining in Singapore which is air conditioned. It is amazing that the design of the place is able to trap the cool air within, keeping the temperature around 20-25 degree celsius.

Only available at the Casuarina Curry Macpherson outlet is the new creation -  Ondeh Ondeh Prata ($4.90). What exactly is it? It is actually made up of crispy tissue prata, folded into a parcel. In it, there are pandan jelly cubes, a scoop of coconut ice cream, shredded coconut and gula melaka to be drizzled over it before eating. The combination in terms of flavours and textures work harmoniously. It has brought prata appreciation to a new level, stepping away from the tradition.

Due to re-developement of Market Street Food Centre, the fish soup has moved to its current location at One Shenton and renamed as Yu Tang Clan. With the re-location, the stall has also gone up market and high tech. Food ordering is done through the touch screen machine at the front of the stall. You will be given a queue number upon payment. Wait for your queue number to be displayed at the queue number screen for collection.

Throughout the Lunar New Year season, Seasonal Tastes at The Westin Singapore has lined up an abundant spread to feast on. The highlights include the ubiquitous Yu Sheng alongside a host of salmon treats – Traditional Smoked Salmon, Thai Smoked Salmon with Coriander Crust, and Beetroot Salmon Crust with Candied Walnuts – or savor the traditional Four Treasure Fortune Pot, Braised Pork Belly, and Drunken Fresh Prawns with XO Brandy, among others. A must have at every reunion dinner is the Yu Sheng, tossing to a year of prosperity and abundance. At Xin Cuisine, it offers a healthier version using dragon fruit dressing. The Abalone and Salmon Yusheng with Dragon Fruit Dressing comes with shredded yam and purple potato on top of the usual ingredients.

One of my favourite item on every Chinese New Year menu is the Pen Cai or Treasure Pot. The Xin's Traditional Pen Cai has around 12 ingredients. There are abalone, roasted pork, roasted duck, mushroom, prawn, fish maw, oyster, cabbage, Chinese sausage, radish, fat choy, scallop etc. This is also available for takeaway for a luxurious reunion dinner with your family members.

The popular Beauty in The Pot has opened a second outlet at The Centrepoint. The new outlet compared to the flagship restaurant has a larger capacity, can sit up to 250 guests. Since I was first introduced to the stall when it was in Tampines, I have been following it as it followed to Johor in Malaysia, and back in Singapore at Bukit Batok and Foch Road. It has recently moved again down the road to Tyrwhitt Road. Known for its famous biscuity sio bak, the stall has also improved on its other roasts, especially the roasted duck and char siew. It even offer noodles to go with their roasts now.

Niven, one of his sons has started with Uncle Chicken Rice at Alexandra Food Centre before moving to The Bedok Marketplace. He has relocated once again to Havelock Road. The new location at Havelock Road is an air conditioned sit down eatery hence you will find the price a bit higher.
