Prosperity Teochew Yusheng 3.5/5

Unlike the usual Yu Sheng offers at most restaurants, Tien Court offers Prosperity Teochew Yusheng with octopus, salmon or abalone options. It is a classic Teochew style yu sheng with leafy greens tossed in addictively zesty passion fruit and plum sauce that bond everything together.

Kung Fu Pot 4/5

TienCourtCNY2022-33

New this year is the Kung Fu Pot available both for dine-in ($268++) and takeaway ($268 Nett with claypot/ $218 Nett in vacuum-sealed pack only). Each bountiful claypot is a labour of love and limited to just 50 pots this year. It is brimming with handmade sotong balls, individually wrapped cabbage parcels stuffed with chunks of crabmeat, scallops and carrot, fish maw with prawn paste, deep-fried prawn roll and more. Unlike the usual pen cai, this version is lighter.

Sauteed Prawn with Pineapple with Sweet and Sour Sauce 4.2/5

An interesting take of the sweet and sour pork dish is the Sauteed Prawn with Pineapple with Sweet and Sour Sauce. It is an auspicious dish that is common on every reunion dinner.

Fortune Spring Chicken 4.2/5

Another dish on the menu which I enjoyed was the Fortune Spring Chicken. It has an aromatic herbal flavour on top of the tender steamed chicken.

TienCourtCNY2022-29
Braised Fish Cake with Napa Cabbage 4.2/5

Probably a signature at Tien Court is the handmade fish cake by Chef Lui. The Braised Fish Cake with Napa Cabbage is soft and pillowy, sitting on a bed of soft and sweet Napa Cabbage.

TienCourtCNY2022-17

The adorable Tiger Buns are specially made for the year of the Tiger. It is limited to 20 pieces per day at $8,80 (2pc) with a secret dining code. You have to recite to the staff, 你家老虎太可爱 (The Tiger in your house is so cute).

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chinese Waxed Meat 3.5/5

Like every Chinese dinner, it will end with a carb dish. We had the Steam Glutinous Rice with Chinese Waxed Meat. It is fluffy and sticky, flavoured by the delicious Chinese waxed meat.

Steamed Nian Gao 4/5

We have the Steamed Nian Gao coated in peanut and coconut for dessert. The extra coating elevates the fragrant and textural enjoyment.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

Singapore Lor Mee @ Tiong Bahru Food Centre - A New And Third Lor Mee Stall At The Food Centre

SingaporeLorMeeStall-3

A third and new Lor Mee stall - Singapore Lor Mee has opened at Tiong Bahru Food Centre. Accordingly to my friend, the stall is previously known as Zhen Hao Lor Mee at North Bridge Road. I have not heard of them before. Nevertheless, I could not help my curiosity self to check them out.

SingaporeLorMee7

There is three items on the menu - Traditional Lor Mee ($4.80), Fried Cod Fish Lor Mee ($5.80) and Jumbo Lor Mee ($8). Unlike other lor mee stalls, it offers unique items such as fried cod fish fillet and tempura prawn for their lor mee.

SingaporeLorMee3

I decided to go for the Fried Cod Fish Lor Mee. Although the fried cod fish is flaky and moist, the exterior is not as crispy as I would have liked. Probably due to the fact it is not freshly fried.

SingaporeLorMee11

Compared to the other two popular stalls at the food centre, the broth, better known as the lor for the noodle, lacks robustness. While it is not very gooey, it is light and lacks depth. So maybe I am more inclined to a more heavily flavoured bowl of lor mee.

SingaporeLorMee13

I had tried the stall when it was previously at North Bridge Road. From the taste, it seems that it is more for the older plate or what we may label it as traditional taste. The younger generation, which prefers strong flavours, may not yet enjoy it.

Angie's Oyster Bar & Grill @ Tan Boon Liat Building - A New Home For Its Seasonal Seafood And Charcoal Grilled Dishes

AngiesOysterBar14

Angie's Oyster Bar & Grill which used to be located at Raffles Place moved to its new home at Tan Boon Liat Building. The new place is beautiful and cosy. Though it may not be as accessible by public transport compare to its previous home, there are plenty of parking lots for those driving.

AngiesOysterBar2
Taramosalata 4/5

Our lunch started with Taramosalata ($14), a Greek meze made from tarama, and cod's roe. It has a slight pinkish colour which makes it very attractive to the sensitives, garnished with red wine shallots, Kalamata olives, dill and thyme. Best to have it together with the sourdough. I like the jalapenos served at the side, which helps to freshen up the palate.

AngiesOysterBar11
Dorper Lamb "Lollipop" 4.8/5

The dish that sold my heart is probably the Dorper Lamb "Lollipop" ($12). It is one damn good lamb dish beautifully marinated with aromatic spices. The whole pairing of Moroccan-spiced chermoula, chipotle, grapefruit, mint salsa, poblano labneh and watercress with the fork-tender lamb may feel like there is a lot of things going on, but they work harmoniously together.

AngiesOysterBar6
Truffled Kombu Cold Pasta, Prestige (Ikura Mountain) 3.8/5

Suitable for sharing is the Truffled Kombu Cold Pasta, Prestige ($68) topped with a mountain of ikura. The texture and flavours are spots on, but it is rather expensive though it is suitable for 3 to 4 persons.

AngiesOysterBar15
Spanish Mussels (500g) 4.5/5

For $38, you get a whole plate of huge and plump Spanish Mussels prepared in mariniere style with a splash of Pernod. A well-executed dish that is not sophisticated yet brings up the freshness of the shellfish.

AngiesOysterBar12
78 Degree Fremantle Octopus 4.2/5

Last but not least, we had the 78 Degree Fremantle Octopus ($36) grilled to perfection. It is tender and succulent, with a slightly crispy exterior. The smokiness further enhances the beautifully cooked dish, paired with pistou, burnt cauliflower, olive, chorizo crumbs and sea grapes.

For coffee lover, you maybe delighted to know that Anther by Glasshouse shared the same space with Angie's Oyster Bar & Grill. Coffee and pastries are available from 9am to 6pm daily.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
