South Buona Vista Road Famous Teochew Boneless Duck Rice @ Sam Leong Road

IMG_8433ed

Fans of famous Lim Seng Lee Duck Rice at South Buona Vista which has closed its door in July 2013 despair not as Mr Lim Ah Too's brother in law, Mr Ang Chiap Teck who has been working with him for the past 28 years has decided to revive the business and opened his own stall at Little India. Occupying a corner unit at Kim San Leng Eating House along Sam Leong Road, Mr Ang has named the stall South Buona Vista Road Famous Teochew Boneless Duck Rice.

When I visited the stall on a Sunday afternoon, business was slow. I noticed the stall is consider quite spacious. They are also serving some of their former signature sambal dishes such as the Sambal Kang Kong, Sambal Sotong, Sambal Prawn and Sambal Tofu.

Braised Duck Leg 3.8/8

I ordered a plate of Braised Duck Leg Rice ($5.50). The beautifully braised duck was tender and covered in a herbal gravy with a nice hint of cinnamon. However, I thought the gravy tasted a tad on the salty side.

I did not visit Lim Seng Lee Duck Rice when it closed its shutter back in July 2013. I actually felt quite regret that I did not do so. I am glad that Mr Ang has decided to revive the recipe at a venue that is more accessible and nearer to my place now.

Necessary Provisions @ Eng Kong Terrace

Latte and Flat White 4.2/5

For people staying in the West, rejoice as a good cafe has opened at the quiet vicinity of Eng Tong Park. Necessary Provisions by Smitten Cafe is quite inaccessible but for a good cup of caffeine, I was not surprised to find the place crowded. In fact, I have to wait for a couple of minutes before I could get a seat.

We had a Latte ($5) and Flat White ($5) in a 6oz cup to start the dinner. Among the various cafe I have visited, I still prefer the coffee from Smitten/Necessary Provisions. My latte was done exactly the way I like with the right amount of espresso and steamed milk allowing me to appreciate the aroma of the coffee bean while still having that creamy smoothness.

Sauteed Calamari 3/5

When the Sauteed Calamari ($8) was served I have to admit I was taken part. My partner even has to reconfirm with me how much does this small bowl of sauteed calamari cost. The dish itself was not bad. The squid was tender and crunchy in a fragrant white wine broth.

Pork Burger 3.5/5

Moving on to our mains, I have the Pork Burger ($14) which was quite petite. The juicy pork patty was sandwiched in a delectable bun and served with sweet potato chips at the side.

Bucatini Grilled Prawn Pasta 3.5/5

My other half had the Bucatini Grilled Prawn Pasta ($14) which was cooked al dente with a nice bite. The grilled prawn was also beautifully executed. Overall it was a good pasta dish with clean flavours.

I will definitely go back Necessary Provisions for a good cup of coffee and chill out at the cozy cafe. Food is not bad but the portion is kind of small for the price I am paying. Next time I am here at Necessary Provisions again, I would like to see how their cakes and pastries fair.
