Kaki 4.5/5

The six course omakase menu started with the Fresh Oyster from Mie with malossol caviar. The clean taste of the oyster has a subtle sweetness to it that is quite smooth for the palate.

Omi Gyu 4/5

Next is the Omi Wagyu from Shiga which is served tataki style. The beautiful marbled wagyu is smoked and chopped with scallions. Eat bite into the fatty marbling is bursting with lovely flavour.

Kinoko 4/5

I thought this is a very creative dish, King Mushroom "Pasta" from Tottori with green asparagus in a crispy rice vermicilli nest. I never expect the chef to substitute the pasta with mushroom. This gives the mushroom noodle more bites and flavour.

Tako 4/5

The  soup comes with Octopus from Hyogo and shijimi clams, simmered with sake & chorizo picante. The octopus was cooked to a nice tender texture. The richness of the soup is perfect for those that has too much a drink. I felt all my senses are waken up again after drinking it.

Udon 3/5

For something more substantial, there is the Udon from Hyogo braised with squid ink stock, topped with firefly squid and Yuzu molecules. I can sense that the kitchen was a bit rush in executing the dish. The udon does not seems to be coated evenly with the squid ink stock, and it didn't manage to come together as a dish.

Warabi Mochi 4.2/5

Wrapping up the six course omakase meal is the Warabi Mochi, a jelly-like confection made from bracken starch, coated with kinako and matcha powder. Mochi is usually quite chewy but this is really soft with jelly like texture. The kinako and matcha powder elevated the whole enjoyment.

Yan Kee (炎记) Noodle House @ South Bridge Road - 24 Hour Bak Chor MeeSua

IMG_6589ed

While Singapore is known as a food paradise, it is actually quite hard to find a supper place. Most places are usually closed by 10pm. If you like bak chor mee, let me introduce you to Yan Kee (炎记) Noodle House at the junction of South Bridge Road and Circular Road which is opened 24 hour.

Dry Bak Chor Mee Sua 4.2/5

Besides the fact that it is opened 24 hour, this is where you can find a special bowl of Dry Bak Chor Mee Sua ($4). The delicious bowl of mee sua comes with minced pork, lean pork, meatball, mushroom, ikan bilis and lots of vinegar.

Dry Bak Chor Mee Sua 4.2/5

Actually not many places offers bak chor mee sua. Usually it only comes with mee pok or mee kia. I guess probably its because it is not easy to cook mee sua. If overcooked, it will become gluey and soggy. Cost could be another fact. However I personally like mee sua over mee pok and mee kia because it is a better sponge to soak up the tanginess of the vinegar.

During my visit around 10pm, the stall was mend by a younger man cooking the mee sua. My mee sua unfortunate was a bit lumpy. I was told that there is a uncle who cooks a better bowl of mee sua and he usually works in the morning. I look forward in my next visit to try the uncle's cooking and compare the different.
