Gunther's Modern French Dining - A Special Curated Degustation Menu Highlighting Chef's Signature Dishes and Culinary Artistry

Gunthers-24

Established in 2007, Gunther's Restaurant is a renowned destination for Modern French dining in Singapore, which speaks to the consistency and quality of their food and service over the years. Their thoughtful approach in presenting the entire dining experience is evident, an example being their continued use of real silverware, which adds a touch of old-world sophistication and charm.

They have recently updated their à la carte menu and offered a curated degustation menu highlighting the chefs' signature dishes and culinary artistry. There is a choice of a 4-course ($158 per person) or 6-course Degustation Menu ($228 per person), with a further option to have wine accompaniment for either menu.

Gunthers-29

We started our 4-course dinner with a freshly Baked Mini Baguette with Butter. The baguette was served warm and featured a crisp, golden crust and a soft interior, accompanied by a rich, creamy butter that melts beautifully when spread on the baguette.

Gunthers-27
Tempura Prawn

Next, we were treated to a snack of Tempura Prawn that was light and crispy. This nice touch provided a little nibble as we waited for our first course.

Gunthers-26
Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra Caviar 5/5

For our first course, we selected two different options- the first being their famous Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra caviar, and the second being the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin.

The Cold Angel Hair Pasta, topped with Oscietra caviar, is truly a dish that speaks for itself, and in my opinion, it's absolutely perfect. Every delicate, silky strand of chilled pasta is tossed with chives, kombu and truffle oil for a delicious taste. It is also luxuriously topped with Oscietra caviar for a briny pop of flavour. A standout choice, I would love to eat this again!

Gunthers-22
Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin 4.2/5

The second starter we tried was the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin, a dish that showcases the high quality of meat used. Thinly sliced, the carpaccio highlights the rich marbling and tenderness of the Saga Wagyu, known for its exceptionally buttery texture. It’s also sprinkled with some cheese shavings and crispy croutons.

Gunthers-31
White Whole Truffle

Gunthers-17
Gratinated Cevennes Onion 3.8 /5

Moving on to our second course, we also savoured two different options. I had the Gratinated Cevennes Onion with Seasonal White Truffle, lemon and black pepper, whilst my dining companion opted for the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with light spicy tomato-flavoured rice.

For the Gratinated Cevennes Onion dish, seasonal white truffles are shaved over the caramelised Cevennes onions and served elegantly in a silver bowl. The baked dish features a rich, buttery aroma that complements the distinctive sweetness of the onions, creating a comforting yet refined flavour profile. However, I found the portion size of this dish to be really small, and I finished it in two bites.

Gunthers-20
Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with Light Spicy Tomato Flavoured Rice 4.5/5

For a heartier second starter, consider the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas. This dish has half of the Carabinero prawn roasted to perfection and bursting with flavour. It is served alongside a tangy tomato-flavoured rice with a bit of spiciness that makes it even more satisfying.

Gunthers-9
Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl 4.8/5

Moving on to our main plate, we tried two delightful dishes: Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl and Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin.

Considering that pork is almost never my first choice for a main, I was thoroughly impressed with the Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl, which was accompanied by herbs, raspberries, and hibiscus sauce. The pork jowl was beautifully prepared—tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of fat and meat. The hibiscus sauce and raspberries complemented the pork wonderfully, adding a touch of tanginess without being overly sour. I would definitely pick this dish again!

Gunthers-7
Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin 4.5/5

The Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin is also delicious; it comes with roasted sweet corn and a caramelised banana shallot that enhances the flavour of the dish, whilst crispy potato strips provide a nice crunch. Overall, this is a well-rounded dish showcasing the beef's high quality.

Gunthers-14
Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee Flavoured Parfait 4.2/5

Last but not least was the dessert course, and I selected the Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee-Flavoured Parfait. It's a dense, warm chocolate cake with a rich, gooey centre. Paired with coffee-flavoured parfait, it's a timeless flavour combination that is quite irresistible.

Gunthers-4
Fine Apple Tart “Aux Dragées”, Salted Caramel, Havana Rum Raisin Ice Cream 4.5/5

The Fine Apple Tart "Aux Dragées" features a delicate pastry base filled with sweet apple compote and some crunchy caramelised sugar. To elevate the experience, it is served alongside Havana rum raisin ice cream, which makes for an indulgent dessert. It is something quite special that I have not had before, and I enjoyed the crispy pastry paired with the ice cream very much.

Gunthers-11
Canelés, Cookies and Choc Truffle

We were presented with Petit Fours, featuring Canelés, a crisp Cookie, and a rolled Chocolate Truffle to conclude our meal. We also enjoyed warm, freshly baked mini financiers with delightfully crisp edges.

Gunthers-1

Dinner at Gunther's was a memorable dining experience marked by high-quality ingredients and well-balanced, delicious flavours in each dish. The chef is very skilled and has many signature dishes which are well worth trying.

However, expect that portions are on the smaller side overall. Personally, it left me feeling satisfied but not uncomfortably full. However, for those with a larger appetite, the smaller portions might leave you wanting more.

27 Degrees West @ Orchard Road - Mumbai's Millon-followers Celebrity Chef Varun Inamdar Brings a Melting Pot of Indian Flavours to Singapore

27DegreeWest6

Mumbai's celebrated celebrity chef, Varun Inamdar, popularly known as "Mumbai's Chocolate Prince," has opened his first Indian restaurant outside India — 27 Degrees West. Nestled in Singapore, the restaurant offers a unique culinary experience that blends traditional Indian flavours with contemporary techniques. The name "27 Degrees West" pays homage to India's geographic positioning relative to Singapore. With dishes that reflect the rich diversity of Indian cuisine, 27 Degrees West delivers a memorable dining experience.

27DegreeWest2
Chicken 65 4.8/5

We kicked off our meal with a classic — Chicken 65 ($15), a beloved South Indian dish. Tender chicken chunks were seasoned with an aromatic blend of spices. Though it might seem like a simple chicken dish, the depth of flavours and the expert seasoning elevated it to something much more special, making it a solid start to the meal.

27DegreeWest30
Togarashi Tossed Bhindi Jaipuri 4/5

The Togarashi Tossed Bhindi Jaipuri ($15) was unexpectedly addictive! This dish is a modern take on Jaipur's famous chaats, featuring crispy fried okra sprinkled with a dash of shichimi togarashi. The highlight was the accompanying 72-hour fermented beetroot chutney ketchup, which added a zesty, tangy depth of flavour. I loved the chutney so much that I wished they sold it by the bottle!

27DegreeWest7
Crabmeat Thecha Thermidor 4.5/5

A crowd favourite, the Crabmeat Thecha Thermidor ($35), truly showcased Chef Varun's philosophy of blending traditional Indian flavours with modern techniques. This luxurious dish features fresh crabmeat from India's coastline, paired with Thecha, a popular chilli-garlic condiment from India. The dish was rich yet perfectly balanced, and the bold flavours worked harmoniously.

27DegreeWest12
Bagara Baingan 4.2/5

The Bagara Baingan ($28), originating from the royal kitchens of Hyderabad, is a dish that surprised me in the best way possible. Smoky eggplants are served in a creamy, nutty sauce alongside crispy starfruit chips for a bit of crunch. It's a unique dish I had never tried before, but it opened my eyes to new possibilities for eggplant. It's definitely one to remember!

27DegreeWest9
Smoked Lamb Rack, Beliram 4/5

Next, we had the Smoked Lamb Rack, Beliram ($55) — a nod to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji's legendary royal dish, 'Gosht Beliram'. The lamb rack was marinated with Kolhapuri masala and roasted to a tender, smoky perfection over an open flame. It was served with a rich Punjabi Beliram gravy paired beautifully with the perfectly cooked lamb.

27DegreeWest18
The 'Varun Inamdar' Butter Chicken 4.5/5

Perhaps the most anticipated dish of the evening was The 'Varun Inamdar' Butter Chicken ($29). This is Chef Varun's signature recipe, popularised by millions of views on his YouTube channel, now available right here in Singapore. The chicken was incredibly succulent and simmered to absorb the creamy, tangy, and rich flavours of the butter chicken gravy. It lived up to the hype.

27DegreeWest16
Assorted Naan 3/5

To soak up the rich gravies of the meal, we ordered the Assorted Naan ($6), which came in various flavours such as plain, garlic, butter, cheese, black pepper, and even truffle! It is the perfect vehicle for the rich sauces that accompany the dishes.

27DegreeWest24
Jowar Khichdi 4.2/5

A personal favourite of mine was the Jowar Khichdi ($25), a unique "no rice" porridge made with nutrient-dense millets and desi ghee. The dish, inspired by Chef Varun's grandmother, was both hearty and comforting, with layers of complex spice that made each bite more intriguing than the last. It's a dish you could enjoy on a cold, rainy day or when you crave something warm and nourishing.

27DegreeWest37
Coconut Kulfi 4/5

For dessert, we indulged in the Coconut Kulfi ($15), a nostalgic treat that combines creamy coconut ice cream with grilled pineapple and pomegranate molasses. The addition of passion fruit added a refreshing tang, balancing the sweetness of the kulfi perfectly. A lovely dessert to end the meal.

27DegreeWest41
Chocolate Mess 4/5

Lastly, we couldn't pass up the Chocolate Mess ($15), a dessert that Chef Varun famously created for the Obamas. This decadent dish features a rich dark chocolate ganache mixed with tart cranberries and raspberries. The result is an indulgent yet well-balanced dessert that any chocolate lover would adore.

27 Degrees West truly lives up to its promise of offering a melting pot of Indian flavours with Chef Varun Inamdar's signature touch. The menu is a delightful journey through both classic and contemporary Indian cuisine, with some dishes reinvented to surprise and delight. Whether it is the tender Smoked Lamb Rack, the comforting Butter Chicken, or the refreshing Coconut Kulfi, 27 Degrees West delivers on both flavour and experience. For anyone looking to explore Indian cuisine with a modern twist, this restaurant is worth a visit.

PS.Cafe @ One Fullerton - Celebrates its 25th Anniversary with Blast from the Past Menu

IMG_7542

PS.Cafe celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special "Blast from the Past" menu, available from September 1 to 30. The menu revives five of the café's most beloved dishes from over the years, priced at $25 each, with a dessert and a handcrafted cocktail for $12.50 each.

IMG_7499
Chicken Tau Kwa Burger 3/5

We began with the Chicken Tau Kwa Burger ($25) from the anniversary menu and the Pecorino Cauliflower Gratin ($15) from the current menu. The Chicken Tau Kwa Burger debuted in 2006 at PS.Cafe's Paragon branch features tender chicken breast sandwiched between two fried tau kwa, dressed with tangy dried chilli oil. It's a high-protein, visually appealing dish, but it tasted and felt rather functional than satisfying.

IMG_7517
Pecorino Cauliflower Gratin 4/5

The Pecorino Cauliflower Gratin was a delightful side, with well-roasted cauliflower florets in béchamel, seasoned with garlic and sesame crumbs. However, I felt that a bit more cheese could have added extra depth and richness.

IMG_7537
King Prawn Paella 3/5

Another item from the special menu, the King Prawn Paella ($25), leaned more towards a Pearl Barley risotto than a traditional paella. That said, the texture of the pearl barley, combined with chunks of chorizo and sweet corn, offered a chewier bite than the usual bomba rice, adding an enjoyable textural twist to the dish.

IMG_7528
Miso Black Cod 3/5

We tried the Miso Black Cod ($42) from the current menu with Grilled Pumpkin, Cha Soba, and Greens. Unfortunately, the fish itself wasn't at its best, and the miso flavour was lacking. The tasty accompanying sides made up for it.

IMG_7554
Lemon Steamed Pudding 2.5/5

IMG_7557
Double Chocolate Blackout Cake 4/5

For dessert, the special Lemon Steamed Pudding ($12.50) was a lemon steamed cake served with homemade lemon custard sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was overly sweet for my taste. In contrast, the classic Double Chocolate Blackout Cake ($18) had a better balance of bitter-sweetness and indulgence.

CURE @ Keong Saik Road - Celebrates 9th Anniversary With A Limited-time Menu From Past & Present CURE Chefs

CureAnniversary-1

One Michelin-starred CURE celebrates its 9th anniversary with an exceptional limited-time-only menu. This ‘Past & Present’ menu is an all-star collaboration between three current CURE chefs and six ex-CURE chefs who now each helm excellent restaurants of their own.

CureAnniversary-5

The stellar line-up of chefs includes CURE’s Chef-Owner Andrew Walsh, Chef Gary Wong and Chef Aiken Low. Alongside them are Chef Stefan Liau from Hevel, Chef Ryan Newman from Le Bon Funk, Chef Maksym Chukanov from Qīn, Chef Kevin Wong from Seroja, Chef Melvin Chou from Terra and Chef Lewis Barker from Sommer.

CureAnniversary-6
Fermented Cashew Cream, Kelp & Banana Tart

Chef Stefan Liau from Hevel presents the first appetiser, a Fermented Cashew Cream, Kelp, and Banana Tart. Chef Stefan learned the kelp fermentation technique at CURE six years ago, and whilst I would never have guessed that this combination works, it is somehow a harmonious, creamy bite. It is also a little nutty, and the banana also lends some sweetness.

CureAnniversary-11
Irish Gallagher Oyster, Cider Granita & Caviar

The Irish Gallagher Oyster, Cider Granita & Caviar is a signature dish of CURE's Chef Andrew Walsh. The freshness of the chopped oyster is enhanced with horseradish cream, chopped shallots and celery. Cider granita adds a little icy texture and refreshing acidity, and it is finished with some briny caviar for the taste of the sea.

CureAnniversary-15
Salmon, Beetroot & Kampot Pepper

From his time at CURE, Chef Ryan Newman from Le Bon Funk used two favourite ingredients — cured salmon and beetroot marinate — to create this bright and cheerful (both in colour and taste) Salmon, Beetroot, and Kampot Pepper. It is an enjoyable appetiser that whets the palate before the more substantial dishes.

CureAnniversary-18
Abalone, Mushroom Broth & Sticky Rice

Chef Kevin Wong from Seroja is next with an auspicious dish of Abalone, Mushroom Broth & Sticky Rice. The abalone signifies continued longevity, prosperity and best wishes for CURE. The abalone was perfectly cooked and served in a wild mushroom stock and sticky rice with collagen. I really loved this dish, it's so warm and comforting and just hits the right spot.

CureAnniversary-19
Danish Langoustine, Tom Yum & Calamansi

Another hot evening favourite was the Danish Langoustine, Tom Yum & Calamansi by Chef Maksym Chukanov from QĪN. This pretty and tasty dish uses a whole langoustine. The juicy meat is grilled over binchotan charcoal, and the head is used to add sweetness to the Tom Yum soup. The soup is neither too tart nor too spicy; it's very balanced, and you can sip it slowly to fully enjoy the flavours.

CureAnniversary-23
Aged Silver Duck

As a surprise, Chef Andrew brought out his signature Aged Silver Duck, Fermented Summer Berries & Spiced Seven Tails Brandy Broth. The duck had rich, deep flavours, and the ageing process enhanced it for a very satisfying taste experience. There was also much buzz and excitement about the glass of liquid gold being served with the duck. It turned out to be a warm glass of duck consommé made with a reduction of duck bones, celery, carrots, onions, an infusion of thyme, rosemary and orange peel, and the addition of some spiced 7 tails brandy for depth of flavour just before serving.

CureAnniversary-25
Kyoho Grape, Fruit Tomato & Shiso

Chef Melvin Chou from Terra blends Italian and Japanese influences in this pre-dessert of Kyoho Grape, Fruit Tomato & Shiso. The base is made with fruit tomato gelee, with a refreshing topping of shiso sorbet, as well as peeled Kyoho grapes and Fruit tomato. This dish has some sweetness, with a touch of savoury and tartness. It is unique and quite refreshing.

CureAnniversary-26
Valrhona chocolate, Roasted hay, and White Miso

Last but not least, Chef Lewis Barker from Sommer ingeniously recreates the flavours of salted caramel using Valrhona chocolate, Roasted hay, and White Miso. Without salt or caramel, the dish achieves a unique depth with smoky notes from roasted hay and a subtle saltiness from white miso, creating a luxurious and inventive chocolate dessert.

CureAnniversary-3

This special menu is available from 11 June till 31 July 2024, and is priced at $188 for three courses, $218 for five courses or $238 for 9 courses.

Overall, I enjoyed the limited-time menu by the past and present chefs. Some dishes have more classic flavour combinations, while others feel more exploratory and innovative. Regardless, it is undoubtedly a golden opportunity to taste these esteemed chefs' signature dishes and craft.

Entrepot @ The Robertson House - Introduces New Menu Infused With Nostalgia and Bold Flavours

EntrepotMay24-13

EntrepotMay24-24

Entrepôt at The Robertson House unveils an enticing new menu that will excite your taste buds with bold, robust flavours. Chef Nixon Low draws from his formative years, personal experiences, and conversations with guests and his team to introduce eight new dishes, each telling a culinary story that celebrates tradition and nostalgia. The restaurant space is also nicely decorated with art pieces for a heritage chic vibe.

EntrepotMay24-5
Vietnamese-Style Crispy Rice Paper 4.2/5

We had the Vietnamese-style Crispy Rice Paper ($24), a nod to the past when Vietnamese junk boats were common on the Singapore River. This dish is fun and interactive, as diners assemble their own portion of toppings. It's a delicious mix of vermicelli, prawns, fresh herbs and peanut sauce piled on top of crispy rice paper, almost like a deconstructed spring roll.

EntrepotMay24-1
Chicken Drunken 3/5

Secondly, a Chinese-inspired dish of Chicken Drunken ($22). The idea is certainly innovative, and the dish is beautiful- a platter of poached chicken roulades and goji berry marmalade, accompanied by a fragrant shot of Drunken Chicken Liquor to be drunk. However, I would have liked it with some dipping sauce as the chicken meat itself, although tender, could do with a little more flavour.

EntrepotMay24-6
Dr Robertson's Chai Cured Salmon 4/5

The third dish of Dr Robertson's Chai Cured Salmon ($24) is a refreshing salad dressed in Dragon Fruit plum. The fennel, radish slaw, candied pecans, and granola also contribute a nice crunch and texture. With very bright flavours, this was light and easy to eat.

EntrepotMay24-8
"Itek Sio"- Tamarind Braised Cherry Valley Duck 3.8/5

Moving on to the main dishes, we had the "Itek Sio" — Tamarind Braised Cherry Valley Duck ($54). I found this enjoyable. There was a duck leg confit and a sous vide duck breast, both of which were nicely cooked and soft. The baked banana shallots added aroma and a mild, subtly sweet flavour to each bite.

EntrepotMay24-12
Aged Vinegar and Malt Sugar Glazed Kurobuta Pork Chop 4.5/5

The Aged Vinegar and Malt Sugar Glazed Kurobuta Pork Chop ($48) is one of the Chef's signature dishes, and it is impressive! The Kurobuta pork loin is cooked and fried to get a crispy edge before glazed with vinegar and malt sugar. The result is a nicely tender pork chop with the right amount of fat and meat and a pleasing sweetness to the meat. Cocoa nibs complete the dish, and grilled white cabbage and pickled vegetables refresh the palate.

EntrepotMay24-14
Chef's Joo Chiat Charcoal Seasonal Whole Fish 4.5/5

I also very much liked Chef's Joo Chiat Charcoal Seasonal Whole Fish ($48). It's done in Thai style with a tangy and appetising Thai chilli sauce, accompanied by a raw papaya and wing bean salad and toasted glutinous rice. The exterior of the fish is nicely charred, while the flesh is fresh, juicy, and flaky.

EntrepotMay24-16
"Hong Zao" Rice Cakes with Eryngii Mushrooms 3/5

One of the most interesting dishes of the evening was the "Hong Zao" Rice Cakes with Eryngii Mushrooms ($28). This dish consists of Teochew rice cakes, crispy red rice and black fungus cooked in a Red Yeast rice residue. Prepared by Chef Nixon's father during his mother's confinement period to nourish her after the birth of each of his younger siblings, this dish symbolises joyous moments and warm family memories in his life. It is a hearty dish (a little too savoury on its own) and is best paired with rice.

EntrepotMay24-19
Fragrant Steamed Coconut Rice with Serundeng 4.8/5

As such, I recommend pre-ordering this special item of Fragrant Steamed Coconut Rice with Serundeng (not on the main menu, limited availability). It seems like a simple rice dish, but it's an absolute delight to eat with the communal main dishes listed above, especially with all that tasty gravy! The rice is light and fluffy and has the delicate fragrance of spicy toasted coconut.

EntrepotMay24-20
Peanut Butter and Chocolate 4/5

Dessert is a real treat for all Peanut Butter and Chocolate ($17) lovers. It is assembled with peanut candy, chocolate genoise sponge cake, 72% dark chocolate mousse, and cashew nut praline. The peanut butter's savoury notes harmonise with the chocolate's sweet and bitter nuances for an indulgent final plate.

EntrepotMay24-23

To complement your meal, there's a good list of cocktails and spirits. They even have their own exclusive Dr Robertson's Gin, crafted in collaboration with Tanglin Gin in Singapore.

EntrepotMay24-26

This menu is now available at Entrepôt from Mon - Fri, 6pm - 10:30pm and Weekends (Last Order: 10:00pm).
