Gunther's Modern French Dining - A Special Curated Degustation Menu Highlighting Chef's Signature Dishes and Culinary Artistry

Gunthers-24

Established in 2007, Gunther's Restaurant is a renowned destination for Modern French dining in Singapore, which speaks to the consistency and quality of their food and service over the years. Their thoughtful approach in presenting the entire dining experience is evident, an example being their continued use of real silverware, which adds a touch of old-world sophistication and charm.

They have recently updated their à la carte menu and offered a curated degustation menu highlighting the chefs' signature dishes and culinary artistry. There is a choice of a 4-course ($158 per person) or 6-course Degustation Menu ($228 per person), with a further option to have wine accompaniment for either menu.

Gunthers-29

We started our 4-course dinner with a freshly Baked Mini Baguette with Butter. The baguette was served warm and featured a crisp, golden crust and a soft interior, accompanied by a rich, creamy butter that melts beautifully when spread on the baguette.

Gunthers-27
Tempura Prawn

Next, we were treated to a snack of Tempura Prawn that was light and crispy. This nice touch provided a little nibble as we waited for our first course.

Gunthers-26
Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra Caviar 5/5

For our first course, we selected two different options- the first being their famous Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra caviar, and the second being the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin.

The Cold Angel Hair Pasta, topped with Oscietra caviar, is truly a dish that speaks for itself, and in my opinion, it's absolutely perfect. Every delicate, silky strand of chilled pasta is tossed with chives, kombu and truffle oil for a delicious taste. It is also luxuriously topped with Oscietra caviar for a briny pop of flavour. A standout choice, I would love to eat this again!

Gunthers-22
Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin 4.2/5

The second starter we tried was the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin, a dish that showcases the high quality of meat used. Thinly sliced, the carpaccio highlights the rich marbling and tenderness of the Saga Wagyu, known for its exceptionally buttery texture. It’s also sprinkled with some cheese shavings and crispy croutons.

Gunthers-31
White Whole Truffle

Gunthers-17
Gratinated Cevennes Onion 3.8 /5

Moving on to our second course, we also savoured two different options. I had the Gratinated Cevennes Onion with Seasonal White Truffle, lemon and black pepper, whilst my dining companion opted for the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with light spicy tomato-flavoured rice.

For the Gratinated Cevennes Onion dish, seasonal white truffles are shaved over the caramelised Cevennes onions and served elegantly in a silver bowl. The baked dish features a rich, buttery aroma that complements the distinctive sweetness of the onions, creating a comforting yet refined flavour profile. However, I found the portion size of this dish to be really small, and I finished it in two bites.

Gunthers-20
Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with Light Spicy Tomato Flavoured Rice 4.5/5

For a heartier second starter, consider the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas. This dish has half of the Carabinero prawn roasted to perfection and bursting with flavour. It is served alongside a tangy tomato-flavoured rice with a bit of spiciness that makes it even more satisfying.

Gunthers-9
Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl 4.8/5

Moving on to our main plate, we tried two delightful dishes: Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl and Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin.

Considering that pork is almost never my first choice for a main, I was thoroughly impressed with the Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl, which was accompanied by herbs, raspberries, and hibiscus sauce. The pork jowl was beautifully prepared—tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of fat and meat. The hibiscus sauce and raspberries complemented the pork wonderfully, adding a touch of tanginess without being overly sour. I would definitely pick this dish again!

Gunthers-7
Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin 4.5/5

The Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin is also delicious; it comes with roasted sweet corn and a caramelised banana shallot that enhances the flavour of the dish, whilst crispy potato strips provide a nice crunch. Overall, this is a well-rounded dish showcasing the beef's high quality.

Gunthers-14
Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee Flavoured Parfait 4.2/5

Last but not least was the dessert course, and I selected the Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee-Flavoured Parfait. It's a dense, warm chocolate cake with a rich, gooey centre. Paired with coffee-flavoured parfait, it's a timeless flavour combination that is quite irresistible.

Gunthers-4
Fine Apple Tart “Aux Dragées”, Salted Caramel, Havana Rum Raisin Ice Cream 4.5/5

The Fine Apple Tart "Aux Dragées" features a delicate pastry base filled with sweet apple compote and some crunchy caramelised sugar. To elevate the experience, it is served alongside Havana rum raisin ice cream, which makes for an indulgent dessert. It is something quite special that I have not had before, and I enjoyed the crispy pastry paired with the ice cream very much.

Gunthers-11
Canelés, Cookies and Choc Truffle

We were presented with Petit Fours, featuring Canelés, a crisp Cookie, and a rolled Chocolate Truffle to conclude our meal. We also enjoyed warm, freshly baked mini financiers with delightfully crisp edges.

Gunthers-1

Dinner at Gunther's was a memorable dining experience marked by high-quality ingredients and well-balanced, delicious flavours in each dish. The chef is very skilled and has many signature dishes which are well worth trying.

However, expect that portions are on the smaller side overall. Personally, it left me feeling satisfied but not uncomfortably full. However, for those with a larger appetite, the smaller portions might leave you wanting more.

Pacific Emporium @ Pan Pacific Singapore - Local Inspired Afternoon Tea

PanPacPacificEmporium-7

A new afternoon tea experience at Pacific Emporium, Pan Pacific Singapore, celebrates our region's rich tapestry of local flavours and culinary traditions. The selection of sweet and savoury bites is thoughtfully curated and presented on a three-tier stand, accompanied by a fine selection of teas, coffee, or champagne as an add-on if you so wish.

PanPacPacificEmporium-2

The ambience is set with contemporary elegance, inviting guests to unwind and simply enjoy the afternoon. We were seated in one of the personal pods, which afforded us a cosy and relaxing space to enjoy our afternoon tea.

PanPacPacificEmporium-3

From the top tier, we had a Baba Ghanoush Avocado Bowl on Squid Ink Baguette, a colourful and tasty bite to whet the palate.

PanPacPacificEmporium-4

The middle tier showcased an exquisite selection of sweets: Hazelnut Crunchy Dark Coco, Apple Yuzu Citrus, Coconut Bandung with Chendol, and Mango Pomelo Sablé. Each one was well-balanced in flavour, and I particularly enjoyed the Mango Pomelo Sablé, which had refreshing tropical fruits encased in a buttery shell.

PanPacPacificEmporium-5

The bottom tier featured more substantial savouries, such as the Wagyu Beef Sando from Keyaki, Salted Egg Yolk Yam Puff from Hai Tien Lo, Singapore Chilli Crab Meat and Egg Custard cup with crispy Mini Bun, and Penang Crispy Pork Lobak with Five Spices wrapped in Bean Curd Skin.

PanPacPacificEmporium-15

On weekends, it gets even better with the Local Experience Live Stations, where guests can indulge in all-you-can-eat selections of local favourites. We ordered many warm, comforting bowls of tangy Penang Assam Laksa and Prawn Noodle Soup at the noodle station with fresh tiger prawn, water spinach and sliced pork. The broth was just too tasty!

PanPacPacificEmporium-10

For a bowl of Wok Hei Char Kway Teow with pacific crab meat, simply order it from the kitchen. It will come straight to your table piping hot.

PanPacPacificEmporium-8

The crêpe station was also really popular! Everyone wanted one of those freshly made crispy crêpes slathered with a thick layer of creamy D24 durian. That day, they were also offering the classic option of chocolate banana crêpes as an alternative. While waiting, feel free to help yourself to the DIY Fruit rojak.

PanPacPacificEmporium-18

This local-inspired Afternoon Tea experience is now available at Pacific Emporium with two daily seatings from 1pm to 3pm (1st seating) and 4pm to 6pm (2nd seating). The Local Experience Live Stations are available as part of the afternoon tea experience on weekends only.

Rudimentary @ Footscray [Melbourne] - Container Cafe With Seasonal Menu Straight From Their Garden

Rudimentary1

Container concept is not new but seldom I see one that is as comfortable as Rudimentary, which is nested at Footscray,a suburb in Melbourne. This is one of my favourite suburb cafes in Melbourne which I visited during my trip. Huge breathing space with an impressive garden with greens, fruits and herbs which go into making our dishes. Do note that menu changes according to season, what we had was Autumn menu. Very simple interior and furnishing, the kind of everyday cafe, as seen from their basic 2 toasts with butter and homemade seasonal jam alongside with their cup of coffee.

Rudimentary6
Steak & Cheese Baguette

The Steak & Cheese Baguette (AUD$14) is a very basic sandwich but the taste of the steak went beyond your usual fast food kind of sandwich. It was quite juicy and tender with oozy cheese all over it. The baguette is closer to a ciabatta which I thought goes even better with the filling. Just look at the charred portion of the bread! That adds characters to an otherwise ordinary toast out from an oven.

Rudimentary5
Coconut & Lime Panna Cotta

Somehow or rather, the Coconut & Lime Panna Cotta (AUD$16) is a dish within the mains and not in the range of desserts, perhaps like your brunch waffles or pancakes. It was my very first experience having panna cotta as a main and theirs made it a memorable one too. The contrast of colours in a myriad of red and orange was sense awakening. Every bite comes with a nice coconut fragrant on top of the creamy texture without being overly cloying. The salad on the side which consists of tangy and citrusy fruits, tart berries and crispy dried fruits was perfect in creating complementing flavours and textural contrasts with the panna cotta.

Rudimentary3
Smoked Beef Ribs with Plum Puree, Cucumber Kimchi, Corn Bread

I rarely see a meat dish that is as neat as their Smoked Beef Ribs (AUD$19.50) with the different ingredients arranged side by side. Corn bread seems to be a common accompaniment for meats, as it appears a few times in other menus. The beef did look really smoked and almost to the degree of charred black but the inside was done right. The blood red plum puree was a sophisticated sauce to flavour the meat, along with an interesting spicy kick with the cucumber kimchi adding a crunchy touch. The portion of the ribs may seem much smaller than expected, not your regular american ribs with sauces all over the plates for sure, but I like the intimacy that a diner could have with this dish - savours every bite and appreciates every flavour that comes through.

Rudimentary2

I finally get to really appreciate what a seasonal menu is after seeing the garden, savouring the food using the ingredients straight from the garden etc.. Last but not least, the warm service and smile by the team. I wished I was really on a vacation and need not rush to my next destination. One day, I shall be back!
