Mary Grace Cafe @ Tras Street - Beloved Filipino Bakery-Café Makes Singapore Debut with Signature Ensaymadas and Comfort Classics

MaryGraceCafe32

The beloved Filipino bakery-café chain Mary Grace makes its international debut in Singapore with its first overseas outpost along Tras Street. Officially opening on 13 March 2026, the homegrown favourite from the Philippines. With over 140 branches, it brings its signature bakes, comforting Filipino classics, and warm hospitality to our local dining scene. Alongside well-loved staples like Ensaymadas and Cheese Rolls, diners can also look forward to Singapore-exclusive creations.

MaryGraceCafe19
Mary Grace Ensaymada 4.2/5

A must-try is the Mary Grace Ensaymada ($5.50), the brand's signature take on the classic Spanish-Filipino pastry. The brioche is soft, fluffy and buttery, crowned with premium-aged Queso de Bola (Edam cheese) from Holland. Unlike traditional versions, this rendition is lightly toasted, adding a delicate crispness that enhances both texture and aroma, especially bringing out the cheese's richness. There is also a Singapore-exclusive Salted Egg version for those seeking a local twist.

MaryGraceCafe12

MaryGraceCafe18
Kaya Pandan Cheese Roll 3.8/5

Another exclusive item is the Kaya Pandan Cheese Roll ($5.30). This variation features homemade pandan kaya paired with a savoury cheese core, all wrapped in the café's signature soft bread and finished with a light coating of caramelised coconut sugar. The combination delivers a comforting balance of sweet and savoury flavours.

MaryGraceCafe15
Mary Grace Hot Chocolate 3.5/5

Pair your bakes with the Mary Grace Hot Chocolate ($7.50), made from premium Belgian cocoa. Rich and indulgent, it works well both as a drink and as a dip for the pastries.

MaryGraceCafe5
Ube Coconut Cloud 4/5

For something refreshing, the Ube Coconut Cloud ($10) offers a delightful mix of coconut water topped with creamy ube foam and toasted coconut flakes. It is light, fragrant and very tropical.

MaryGraceCafe7
Cassava Chips with Onion Dip 4.2/5

Beyond pastries, the menu also showcases hearty Filipino fare. The Cassava Chips with Onion Dip ($12) are paper-thin and crispy, but the addictive onion dip truly steals the show.

MaryGraceCafe27
Angus Beef Tapa 4/5

The Angus Beef Tapa ($25.50) showcases a Filipino classic, featuring tender sirloin strips marinated for 24 hours. The sweet-savoury flavours are well-balanced and deeply satisfying. It comes with a choice of garlic or rosemary rice and eggs done your way — we opted for the garlic rice, which was fluffy and fragrant, paired with sunny-side-up eggs that completed the dish nicely.

MaryGraceCafe33
Grilled Chicken Inasal Focaccia 4.2/5

A highlight among the savoury offerings is the Grilled Chicken Inasal Focaccia ($19.50). The chicken, marinated in a tangy achuete-spiced blend, is grilled to bring out smoky, zesty notes of lemongrass and tamarind. Sandwiched in house-baked focaccia that is crisp on the outside and fluffy within, it delivers both flavour and texture in every bite.

MaryGraceCafe38

MaryGraceCafe41
Mango Bene 4.5/5

We wrapped up the meal with the Mango Bene ($14.50, petite), a delightful dessert layering crisp meringue, silky custard cream, and fresh mangoes. Slightly frozen at the core, it offers a refreshing, almost ice cream-like finish that is both light and indulgent.

Overall, Mary Grace's Singapore debut delivers a comforting mix of nostalgic Filipino flavours and thoughtful local touches, making it a charming addition to the Tras Street dining scene.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

Priced at $79++ with free-flow alcohol or $49++ without, diners can customise their meal from a curated selection of Japanese dishes. SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard9

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard11

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard7
Free Flow Drinks

The free-flow drinks option is a highlight, comprising both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. For those going for the alcohol package, there is a good variety of options, including sake, highballs, beer, and umeshu, perfect for pairing with the grilled skewers and small plates.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard22
Assorted Appetisers Box

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard25
Assorted Sashimi Box

Diners can choose between the Assorted Appetisers Box or the Assorted Sashimi Box. As there were two of us, we opted to have one of each sample both offerings. The Assorted Appetisers Box features a selection of cooked items, including unagi, aburi fish, tamago, sushi rolls, and grilled prawn — a comforting assortment with a balance of textures and flavours. The Assorted Sashimi Box, on the other hand, showcases a variety of fresh seafood, including ebi, scallops, salmon, and chutoro, offering a clean and satisfying start to the meal.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard30

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard31
Yakitori 4/5

For the Yakitori selection, each diner gets to choose three skewers. We went with Tebasaki (wing), thigh, pork jowl, iceberg pork roll, and leek. The skewers were well-executed with a nice char and smokiness, making them ideal accompaniments to the drinks.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard23
Creamy Crab Croquette 3.5/5

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard38
Potato Salad 4.2/5

For sides, we had the Creamy Crab Croquette and Potato Salad. The croquette was fried to a golden crisp, revealing a creamy, flavourful filling. The Potato Salad was particularly enjoyable, elevated by the addition of ikura, which added bursts of briny umami to each bite.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard12
Wagyu Sirloin Steak 4/5

For the mains, the Wagyu Sirloin Steak delivered on tenderness and juiciness. However, the portion felt somewhat small for a main course, especially for those with larger appetites.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard43
Overflowing Toro-Taku Roll 3.8/5

A more substantial alternative would be the Overflowing Toro-Taku Roll, which offered a generous filling and a satisfying bite, making it a better choice for those seeking something heartier.

SakedokoroEizaburoOrchard49
Overflowing Ikura, Salmon Negitoro Don 3.8/5

Another fulfilling option is the Overflowing Ikura Salmon Negitoro Don. The bowl comes topped with creamy salmon negitoro and generously piled ikura, delivering a rich and savoury combination that pairs well with the rice.

Overall, Eizaburo Orchard’s Build-Your-Own dinner experience is a great option for casual gatherings. With its customisable format, wide selection of dishes, and free-flow drinks option, it offers a lively and enjoyable way to dine with friends in the heart of Orchard.

boCHINche @ Club Street - New Weekly Offerings Including Free-Flow Steak Experience on Weekend

IMG_6805

boCHINche, the beloved Argentinian steakhouse on Club Street, has rolled out a brand-new line-up of Weekly Offerings, specially curated by Executive Chef Fabrice Mergalet. Regulars and steak aficionados alike will be thrilled by its latest weekend indulgence — a free-flow steak experience. Available every Saturday and Public Holiday from 11.30am to 3pm, you can tuck into a 90-minute feast of unlimited steaks, featuring the restaurant's Signature Argentinian "Frimsa" Ribeye, Frimsa Sirloin, and the premium add-on, "Robbins Island" Inside Skirt.

IMG_6795
Frimsa Sirloin 3.5/5

Each portion (200g) is grilled over a fragrant blend of jarrah, apple, and lychee wood, imparting a distinct smokiness. The Signature Argentinian "Frimsa" Sirloin, being a leaner cut, made for a great opener. Mine was evenly cooked, succulent, with a lovely char on the surface.

IMG_6817
Argentinian Frimsa Ribeye 3.8/5

In contrast, the Signature Argentinian "Frimsa" Ribeye (British Angus, grass-fed, and 28 days wet-aged) was juicier, with its marbled fats rendering beautifully to enhance both flavour and texture.

IMG_6828
“Robbins Island” Inside Skirt 3.8/5

For an additional $10, diners can upgrade to the "Robbins Island" Inside Skirt, a Full Blood Wagyu cut that's grass- and cereal-fed, aged for 38 days. With high marbling, it proved the most flavourful of the trio, especially at the charred edges. Its natural fibrousness gave it a chewier bite as well.

This 90-minute free-flow Argentinian steak experience is priced at $55 per person. For just $8 more, complete the meal with free-flow sides - crisp Provençal Fries tossed with garlic and parsley, and refreshing Mixed Greens dressed in balsamic.

Gunther's Modern French Dining - A Special Curated Degustation Menu Highlighting Chef's Signature Dishes and Culinary Artistry

Gunthers-24

Established in 2007, Gunther's Restaurant is a renowned destination for Modern French dining in Singapore, which speaks to the consistency and quality of their food and service over the years. Their thoughtful approach in presenting the entire dining experience is evident, an example being their continued use of real silverware, which adds a touch of old-world sophistication and charm.

They have recently updated their à la carte menu and offered a curated degustation menu highlighting the chefs' signature dishes and culinary artistry. There is a choice of a 4-course ($158 per person) or 6-course Degustation Menu ($228 per person), with a further option to have wine accompaniment for either menu.

Gunthers-29

We started our 4-course dinner with a freshly Baked Mini Baguette with Butter. The baguette was served warm and featured a crisp, golden crust and a soft interior, accompanied by a rich, creamy butter that melts beautifully when spread on the baguette.

Gunthers-27
Tempura Prawn

Next, we were treated to a snack of Tempura Prawn that was light and crispy. This nice touch provided a little nibble as we waited for our first course.

Gunthers-26
Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra Caviar 5/5

For our first course, we selected two different options- the first being their famous Cold Angel Hair Pasta topped with Oscietra caviar, and the second being the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin.

The Cold Angel Hair Pasta, topped with Oscietra caviar, is truly a dish that speaks for itself, and in my opinion, it's absolutely perfect. Every delicate, silky strand of chilled pasta is tossed with chives, kombu and truffle oil for a delicious taste. It is also luxuriously topped with Oscietra caviar for a briny pop of flavour. A standout choice, I would love to eat this again!

Gunthers-22
Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin 4.2/5

The second starter we tried was the Tartare Flavoured Carpaccio of Saga Wagyu Striploin, a dish that showcases the high quality of meat used. Thinly sliced, the carpaccio highlights the rich marbling and tenderness of the Saga Wagyu, known for its exceptionally buttery texture. It’s also sprinkled with some cheese shavings and crispy croutons.

Gunthers-31
White Whole Truffle

Gunthers-17
Gratinated Cevennes Onion 3.8 /5

Moving on to our second course, we also savoured two different options. I had the Gratinated Cevennes Onion with Seasonal White Truffle, lemon and black pepper, whilst my dining companion opted for the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with light spicy tomato-flavoured rice.

For the Gratinated Cevennes Onion dish, seasonal white truffles are shaved over the caramelised Cevennes onions and served elegantly in a silver bowl. The baked dish features a rich, buttery aroma that complements the distinctive sweetness of the onions, creating a comforting yet refined flavour profile. However, I found the portion size of this dish to be really small, and I finished it in two bites.

Gunthers-20
Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas with Light Spicy Tomato Flavoured Rice 4.5/5

For a heartier second starter, consider the Roasted Spanish Carabinero Gambas. This dish has half of the Carabinero prawn roasted to perfection and bursting with flavour. It is served alongside a tangy tomato-flavoured rice with a bit of spiciness that makes it even more satisfying.

Gunthers-9
Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl 4.8/5

Moving on to our main plate, we tried two delightful dishes: Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl and Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin.

Considering that pork is almost never my first choice for a main, I was thoroughly impressed with the Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl, which was accompanied by herbs, raspberries, and hibiscus sauce. The pork jowl was beautifully prepared—tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of fat and meat. The hibiscus sauce and raspberries complemented the pork wonderfully, adding a touch of tanginess without being overly sour. I would definitely pick this dish again!

Gunthers-7
Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin 4.5/5

The Grilled Wagyu Beef Sirloin is also delicious; it comes with roasted sweet corn and a caramelised banana shallot that enhances the flavour of the dish, whilst crispy potato strips provide a nice crunch. Overall, this is a well-rounded dish showcasing the beef's high quality.

Gunthers-14
Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee Flavoured Parfait 4.2/5

Last but not least was the dessert course, and I selected the Floating Island of Chocolate on Coffee-Flavoured Parfait. It's a dense, warm chocolate cake with a rich, gooey centre. Paired with coffee-flavoured parfait, it's a timeless flavour combination that is quite irresistible.

Gunthers-4
Fine Apple Tart “Aux Dragées”, Salted Caramel, Havana Rum Raisin Ice Cream 4.5/5

The Fine Apple Tart "Aux Dragées" features a delicate pastry base filled with sweet apple compote and some crunchy caramelised sugar. To elevate the experience, it is served alongside Havana rum raisin ice cream, which makes for an indulgent dessert. It is something quite special that I have not had before, and I enjoyed the crispy pastry paired with the ice cream very much.

Gunthers-11
Canelés, Cookies and Choc Truffle

We were presented with Petit Fours, featuring Canelés, a crisp Cookie, and a rolled Chocolate Truffle to conclude our meal. We also enjoyed warm, freshly baked mini financiers with delightfully crisp edges.

Gunthers-1

Dinner at Gunther's was a memorable dining experience marked by high-quality ingredients and well-balanced, delicious flavours in each dish. The chef is very skilled and has many signature dishes which are well worth trying.

However, expect that portions are on the smaller side overall. Personally, it left me feeling satisfied but not uncomfortably full. However, for those with a larger appetite, the smaller portions might leave you wanting more.

SAKEMARU Artisan Sake Hideout @ South Bridge Road - Journey Through 300 Different Types Of Sake With Modern Kappo-style Japanese Cuisine

IMG_3661

SAKEMARU Artisan Sake Hideout at South Bridge Road is a haven created for the sake of aficionados and novices alike. At any one time each season, it carries around 300 types of artisanal sake. First established as an online sake subscription service provider for five years, SAKEMARU ventured into their first restaurant business. The dine-in restaurant offers an impressive range of artisanal sakes and a modern Kappo-style Japanese cuisine fronting the restaurant.

The sake and food menus are seasonal, with the former curated by Head Sommelier Tadashi Okushima, one of the honorary Sake sommeliers designated by the Japan Sake Sommelier Association, the latter executed by Head Chef Daisuke Yomogi. You can opt for a 15-course Omakase tasting menu for $200, with an optional Sake pairing that comes highly recommended. At Sakemaru, you will get to taste sakes that are rarely available, even in Japan, as they work closely with small and unknown but excellent breweries in Japan.

IMG_3679
Persimmon and Tiger Shrimp 4/5

Our tasting was a 9-course Omakase with an opening course featuring Persimmon and Tiger Shrimp with Sesame Tofu Sauce. The nutty and savoury sauce complements the key ingredients, which are inherently on the sweet side.

IMG_3699
Wagyu Uni Sushi 3.8/5

The theatrical effect of this course was when the Chef unveiled the Wagyu Uni Sushi hidden underneath the whole Persimmon. It won us over with its luscious and mouth-filling combination of wagyu and uni.

IMG_3667
Kasaichiyo Casareccio

The sake to kickstart our dinner was Kasaichiyo Casareccio from the Kyoto Prefecture. Brewed with White Koji, this Sake is perfect for starting any meal with extremely fruity notes and considerably low alcohol content. It is one of our favourites of the night.

IMG_3709
Teapot Soup 4/5

IMG_3716
Nigiri Salmon Ikura Steamed Sushi 3.5/5

IMG_3713
Shichisui Yumesasara 40

For Appetiser, we had a comforting Teapot soup - Matsutake Mushroom and Pike Cougar Steamed In Teapot, followed by Nigiri Salmon Ikura Steamed Sushi. A simple dish but elevated with zest from Japanese lime. They are paired with a slightly stronger Shichisui Yumesasara 40 from the Tochigi Prefecture.

IMG_3717
Horse Mackerel Wrapped in Radish 3.5/5

IMG_3723
Sliced Usujukuri with Uni 3.5/5

IMG_3729
Bluefin Tuna 4/5

We had Seasonal Sashimi 3 Kinds - Horse Mackerel Wrapped in Radish, Sliced Usujukuri with Uni and Bluefin Tuna for the Sashimi course. I appreciate how each kind of sashimi was presented individually and treated differently, which brought an entirely new experience to eating the same ingredients that I had before. That certainly prolonged the pleasure of pairing them with Sharaku Junmai Ginjo Yamadanishiki from the Fukushima Prefecture. If you are good, you might detect banana notes in it.

IMG_3736
Grilled Miyazaki A5 Sirloin 4/5

Next, we had Grilled Miyazaki A5 Sirloin with Japanese Yam on Hoba Leaf. One of the joys of this course is watching the Chef at work - smoking the Hoba Leaf, grilling the sirloin and eventually placing the beautiful dish in front of me. The Hoba Leaf evoked a sense of walking in the woods, with the yam and Japanese green pepper adding a touch of rustiness to the plating. The Sirloin, though I thought it needed to be slightly more charred to render its fats was still yummy with the help of rich and savoury dark miso sauce. This course is accompanied by Tengumai Yamahai Junmai from the Ishikawa Prefecture, served at 30 degrees Celcius. The key to note about this sake is that it is produced using a very traditional method: Yamahai Style. I learned that such a method has a wilder flavour in sake, perhaps explaining its interesting mushroom notes.

IMG_3744
Hairy Crab with Tosazu Jelly Sauce 4/5

IMG_3740
Tatenokawa Muga Junmai Daiginjo Nama

We also had a dish to refresh our senses in between - a chilled dish featuring Hairy Crab with Tosazu Jelly Sauce. The combination is sweet, citrusy and tangy. It did what it was meant to do - awakening my taste buds, alongside a serving of Tatenokawa Muga Junmai Daiginjo Nama from the Yamagata Prefecture.

IMG_3747
Fig Tempura 4.5/5

IMG_3758
Deep-fried Pacific Saury 4/5

IMG_3751
Nabeshima Blossom Moon

The Deep-Fried item stood out for me. First, we had Fig Tempura served with Miso Sauce and Yuzu Zest, followed by the Deep-fried Pacific Saury rolled with Shiso basil, served with Ume Sauce. Coated with a light tempura batter, deep-frying the fig seemed to change both its flavour and texture profile, for it reminded me so much of a fried Breadfruit. The sake paired with it was a highlight for me - Nabeshima Blossom Moon from Saga Prefecture. Using Tajima Gouriki rice, it has very distinct strawberry notes.

IMG_3767
Mushroom and Sea Eel Claypot Rice 4.5/5

After so much drink, a carbs-heavy dish in the Mushroom and Sea Eel Claypot Rice served with Miso Soup is always welcome. It showcases the simplicity of Japanese claypot rice and how one can derive such extreme comfort from eating it. With that, indeed, perhaps the perfect pairing will have to be this Kuromatsu Kenbishi, served at 45 degrees Celcius. Being one of the most rustic styles of sakes from the Hyogo Prefecture, it has characteristic mushroom notes that syncs with the dish.

IMG_3776
Shine Muscat Daifuku 4.8/5

Rounding off the meal was a mellow sweet Shine Muscat Daifuku served with hot tea. It marries the beauty of the Japanese Shine Muscat with one of our most well-loved traditional Japanese dessert.

IMG_3659

From $55 a month for the classic plan, SAKEMARU subscribers get a 720ml bottle of seasonal Junmai or Junmai Gingo grade sake. Some of the sake breweries are Tempoichi Shuzo, a 106-year-old small brewery in Hiroshima, Kikuzakari Shuzo, a family-run brewery from Iwate Prefecture and Mikunibare Shuzo, a 131-year-old brewery in Ikuji Kurobe, famed for its water quality. The sakes from Sakemaru are available exclusively through them.
