The Butchers Club Burger @ Clarke Quay

IMG_3067ed

I was really excited when I get to know that The Butchers Club Burger will be opening its first outlet in Clarke Quay, Singapore. Widely known as best burger joint in Hong Kong, theirs burgers have won numerous awards too. Hence I was eagerly looking forward to get my hands messy and sink my teeth into the dry aged beef patty.

The Burger 4.5/5

In Hong Kong, there is only 2 items on the menu. The signature cheese burger, The Burger ($20) and The Duck Fat Fries ($8). Diners actually has to scanned the QR code to know what is the secret menu or what are burgers are on the menu. Unfortunately this did not really work in our culture and the restaurant ends up having to bring out the secret menu on the flip side of it.

The Burger 4.5/5

The Burger ($20) is made up of 160 gram of dry-aged Black Angus grain-fed beef patty, sandwiched between Canadian strip bacon glazed in maple syrup. the house's caramelised onion spread, English white cheddar, pickle and tomato. Grilled to perfect medium, the dry aged beef patty was juicy, moist and flavourful. The rest of components complement one another perfectly, making this a really awesome burger. I have not eaten such a good burger for a long time.

Wu Tang Style Burger 4.2/5

Using the same dry aged beef patties and toasted homemade Scotch bap, I was rather surprised that the addition of kimchi, kewpie mayo, tempura sweet potato and sriracha can change the dimension of the burger totally. The whole kimichi thingy did not steal the show away from the patty which is a good thing allow the sriracha to give the Wu Tang Style Burger ($25) a slightly fiery punch instead.

Double Happiness 4.8/5

The Burgers is upsized in the Double Happiness ($38) with double patty, double cheese and all the fixins between two grilled cheese sammys. Instead of white cheddar, orange cheddar was used. I actually preferred the double happiness more, maybe it was the different cheese, the flavour seemed to be more robust compare to its smaller brother, The Burger.

Captain Ahab 4.5/5

I seldom order fish burger because not many places is able to impress me with one. The only fish burger I have given a high rating is the cod fish burger from Market Grill until I tried the Captain Ahab ($24) at The Butchers Club Burger. The fish burger is made panko breaded fresh New Zealand Ling Fillet flown chilled not frozen to Singapore. Served with homemade tartar sauce and spicy coleslaw, I have discovered the next best burger at The Butchers Club Burger.

If you love burgers, The Butchers Club Burger definitely is the place to check out. Do check out their facebook page for Burgers Takover, occasionally the restaurant will work with other chefs to introduce a special burger for the promotional period. I heard Chef Matt will also be introducing his own version of the chicken burger in the near future. Can't wait to be back to try it.

Kampong Carrot Cake @ Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre

IMG_3291ed

Having visited Tiong Bahru Food Centre on several occasions, I never seem to notice Kampong Carrot Cake stall until my recent visit. Not sure whether it is new to the food centre, I decided to give it a try to find out for more myself.

Black Carrot Cake 4/5

I ordered a plate of their Black Carrot Cake ($3) which to my delight, the stall adds two eggs to the carrot cake instead of the usual one. I could also find chye poh in it too.

The dark sauce used for the carrot cake is not too sweet. I find it acceptable, suiting my taste buds. I know some may preferred it to be sweeter. It also has occasionally charred bites which added to the whole enjoyment.

The texture of the fried carrot cake was also not mushy. It still has a good bite to it. Overall this is quite a good plate of carrot cake that will worth the calories.
