Cross Way Bay Hong Kong Roasted Meat (尖沙嘴港式烧臘) @ Tampines Street 43

IMG_0644ed

Yes the words have been out and it has also appeared in KF Seetoh's Makansutra column recommending this hidden gem in the hood for having one of the best Sio Bak in town. Coming from the food guru himself, it is like a stamp of guarantee. Credit has to go to Uncle Martin who has unearthed this humble stall at Tampines Street 43. Surrounded by a maze of urban concretes, it was not easy to navigate to the coffeshop where Cross Way Bay Hong Kong Roasted Meat (尖沙嘴港式烧臘) is located. I could have easily gotten lost if not for the foodie buddies showing me to this hideout.

Roasted Pork Belly or Sio Bak 4.8/5

My first visit was in the late afternoon so the Sio Bak was a bit cold. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the different layers of of the pork belly was basically belly dancing in a seductive matter seducing me to eat them up quickly. Sinking my teeth into the seductive piece of roast pork. My first response was that the blistered skin tasted special. Even though it was a bit cold, the skin still has that crackling and crumbly texture. Borrowing Seetoh's description, it was biscuit like.

In my second visit I was earlier and I got to try the roasted pork while it was still warm. The piece of sio bak literally melted in my mouth. The blistered skin still has that biscuit like texture which is really very enjoyable. I felt that my limited vocabulary did not do justification to the beautiful piece of roasted pork belly. You just have to try it yourself to know what I meant.

At Cross Way Bay Hong Kong Roasted Meat, besides the roasted pork belly it also has roasted duck, roasted chicken and char siew. I tried their Roasted Chicken which was also quite good although I can't say they are the best. For the Char Siew, my advice is to go for the armpit cut which has a nice layer of fats that is more succulent.

Bedrock Bar & Grill @ Pan Pacific Serviced Suites

IMG_1156ed

I have been wanting to check out Bedrock Bar & Grill for the longest time after reading many good reviews about this place. I am a person that will try to avoid crowds so hardly will I make my way down to Orchard Road. In a rare occasion that I needed to go down to Orchard Road for some personal errand, I suggested dinner at Bedrock Bar & Grill. Moreover, I know the Entertainer App allows me to enjoy 1 for 1 main course. Imagining getting a $79 main course free and that is less than what I paid for get the full version of the Entertainer App. In one meal, I already recovered my cost. You can download the Entertainer App at http://www.theentertainerme.com/singapore/

Flat Bread 4.5/5

After taking our orders, complimentary flat bread was served. Love the flat bread, it was so warm, soft and fluffy. With full view of the kitchen, I can see how these breads were freshly made. Besides the butter, roasted garlic in olive oil is also served here as a spread for the bread. Love the garlic spread with the bread, excellent pairing for enjoying the flat bread to the fullest.

Smoked Tomato Soup 4/5

My partner took a sip of the Smoked Tomato Soup ($14) and exclaimed, why is there a burnt taste? What a way to describe it. I explained that it was the smokiness from the applewood smoked tomato. The servicing was huge but I am not complaining. Personally I think it is good for sharing. The velvety and soothing soup with basil mascarpone was both hearty and comforting.

Broiled Sea Scallops 4.2/5

The plump Broiled Sea Scallops ($32) comes in a trio and served with jamon iberico confit, pinot noir reduction and drawn butter.  Succulent and sweet, a delicious starter to whet up the appetite.

Sauteed Mushrooms 4.2/5

To go with our steaks, we decided to have the Sauteed Mushrooms ($18) for our side dish. The serving for the earthy mushrooms was quite generous, cooked to a nice crunch with hints of white wine.

Pepper Steak 4.5/5

I decided to go for the Bedrock Pepper Steak ($79) which is served in a hot pan with the black peppercorn sauce at the side. The 300g Angus Beef Ribeye was juicy and flavourful. I like that the sauce is served at the side giving me the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful flavour of the beef. I ended up alternating between the natural flavour of the beef and the peppercorn sauce as I could not make up my mind which I preferred. Both were so good.

Striploin 4.2/5

My partner went for the 300g Australian Grass Fed Striploin ($79). Cooked to medium donenss, she chosen to pair it with classic bearnaise sauce. The buttery and creamy sauce went very well with the steak. There are also other options of red wine, chili oil, wholegrain whiskey mustard and chimichurri sauces. Do note all these sauces come at a $4 cost which I find that it should not be chargeable. In comparison, I still prefer the ribeye to the striploin as it's more flavourful

I am glad that I have finally eaten at Bedrock Bar & Grill. Their steak is really beautiful. On top of that the service was excellent. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Price is on the steep side but it comes with quality and the portion is actually big. For budget hunter, you may want to purchase the Entertainer App to enjoy great saving with their 1 for 1 main course redemption.
