Supertree Dining @ Gardens by the Bay

IMG_5218

Singapore latest attraction Gardens by the Bay is officially opened to the public on 29 June 2012. One of the iconic structures is the enchanting towering tree like structure called the Supertree. The main cluster of them are at Supertree Grove where the 22 metre high OCBC skyway is located.

Located by Supertree Grove, Supertree Dining features five distinctive food and beverage concepts in a common dining space. It provides an all inclusive family dining experience in one of Singapore's most unique attractions, Gardens by the Bay. Offering a diverse range of local and international cuisines, Supertree Dining caters to the different budget and tastes of visitors.

Hill Street Coffee Shop

Hill Street Coffee Shop restores the 1960s coffeeshop experience with its traditional coffeeshop atmosphere complete with marble-top tables and wooden chairs, red brick walls and old style window shutters.

Aims to preserve Singapore's hawker and coffee shop culture even the food and beverage are served in tradition wares. The menu also comes in the form of an old school newspaper.

Steam Bread 4.2/5

The Steam Bread was like my childhood. I remembered those days my grandma would bring me to the coffeeshop to have breakfast and ordered them. The bread was soft and fluffy with the lovely coconut flavour of the kaya spread.

Kampong Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak 4.2/5

I am surprised the aromatic long grain Basmati rice was used for the Kampong Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak ($8.90++). The coconut rice had a nice pandan leaf fragrant. The chicken was tender and moist. The homemade vegetable achar on the side stood out too.

IMG_5251
Traditional Singapore Laksa 4.2/5

This is the way I love my laksa. The Singapore Laksa ($8.90++) was cooked in a coconut milk based curry brother with thick vermicelli topped with an abundance of cockles, prawns, shredded chicken and sliced egg.

IMG_5259
Street Fried Hokkien Mee 4.2/5

The Fried Hokkien Mee ($9.90++) used a mix of thin vermicelli and yellow noodles wok fried in a dense broth. According to the PR, the chef has over 20 years of experience stirring up the dish.

Peach Garden Noodle House

Peach Garden Noodle House is the casual dining version of Peach Garden restaurant, offering quick, convenient, delicious and affordable Chinese dishes in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

IMG_5281
Noodle with Fresh Prawn Dumpling 4/5

The Noodle with Fresh Prawn Dumpling ($7.00++) was subtle and pleasant, pleasing for the palate. It comes in both soup and dry version.

IMG_5270
Xiao Long Bao with Goose Liver Double-boiled Shark Bone Cartilage Soup 4/5

The Xiao Long Bao with Goose Liver Double-boiled Shark Bone Cartilage Soup ($12.80++) is a bit too pricey for me and it only comes with the serving for one. The flavours were definitely premium but the size of the Xiao Long Bao made it quite difficult to eat.

IMG_5282
Steamed Chicken Bun 4/5

This is definitely not your ordinary Steamed Chicken Bun ($12.80++). It was huge! The bun had baby abalone, chinese sausage and mushroom inside.

IMG_5276
Chicken Rice 4.2/5

The Chicken Rice ($18.80++) is a special edition for Gardens by the Bay, Supertree Dining. The chicked was perfectly cooked, moist and tender. Unfortunately I find it too pricey. It probably the most expensive Chicken Rice after Chatterbox.

Pineapple Shave Ice 4/5

IMG_5344
Dragonfruit Shaved Ice  3.8/5

Another new addition to the menu is the selection of Fruits Shaved Ice. The shaved ice was plated using the fruit itself. It was rather unique and eye catching in presentation. We tried both the Dragonfruit Shaved Ice ($8.80++) and Pineapple Shaved Ice ($.8.80++). I would prefer the Pineapple Shave Ice as it had a more intense fruity flavour.

Casa Verde

The Italian relaxed trattoria Casa Verde serves classic Italian cooking. It also house an open bar where visitors can enjoy a glass of ice cold beer or sip a glass of wine while admiring the Supertrees.

IMG_5293
Casa Verde Salad 4/5

The beautiful and lovely Casa Verde Salad ($12.00++) came with combination of garden greens and assorted mixed fruit tossed with honey lemon.

IMG_5327
Baked Macaroni with Mushroom and Mozzarella Cheese 3.5/5

The Baked Macaroni with Mushroom and Mozzarella Cheese ($14.00++) is new on the menu and only available at Supertree Dining. The dish was a bit dry and flat for me. I would preferred it to be more cheesy and creamy.

IMG_5336
Sfilatino Casa Verde 4/5

Sfilantino Casa Verde ($24.00++) is the house specialty. An interesting version of mozzarella, ham and mushroom a la spring roll style.

Texas Chicken

Texas Chicken is an American fast-food chain which serves original and spicy fried chicken. It is known for its juicy and full flavoured fried chicken served in its signature eight piece cut. This is also the only Halal restaurant at Gardens by the Bay.

IMG_5324
Spicy Fried Chicken 4/5

I noticed Texas Fried Chicken ($7.60 for 2 piece set meal) is not as oily compared to the other fried chicken chains while retaining the moist in the meat. Only available at Texas Fried Chicken is the handmade Honey Butter Biscuits ($1.20/pc, $3.20/3pc, $5.80/6pc) glazed with sweet and savoury honey butter and baked to golden brown.

IMG_5322
Fire Wrap 3/5

The Fire Wrap ($7.80 for a set meal) is new and exclusive at Supertree Dining. It came with crunchy, juicy tender chicken strips with fresh lettuce, jalapeno pepper slices, cheese, crispy tortilla chips, red onions and tomato, wrapped in a hot toasted tortilla. Abundance of ingredients but a bit on the dry side.

Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie

Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie serves a tantalising selection of pastries and desserts. Diners can enjoy a lazy afternoon over a slice of cake and coffee or end a gratifying meal with a sweet finish.

IMG_5306
Limited Edition Summer Macarons 4/5

The Limited Edition Summer Macarons ($2.50/pc, $11.50/6pc, $21.50/12pc) is on sale from 6 July to mid August 2012. The flavours are violet berries, chocolate rice krispie, mint chocolate, lemon lime and vanilla banana.

IMG_5304
Chocolate Caramel Ice Cream 4.5/5

After touring the Garden by the Bay under the hot and humid Singapore weather, the Chocolate Caramel Ice Cream ($3) will be perfect to cool you from the heat. The chocolate ice cream is layered with caramel and topped with hazelnuts.

IMG_5331
Canele Chicken Caesar Wrap 3/5

For the opening of the Supertree Dining, Canele introduces a new sandwich and savour wrap selection to its menu. The Canele Chicken Caesar Wrap ($8) with anchovy dressing, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and sliced chicken strips was rather pedestrian for me.

Jian Bo Shui Kueh (楗柏水果) @ Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre

IMG_4661

If you were to ask me for a recommendation at Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre, my first thought will be the Lor Mee and Chwee Kueh. I told the opportunity to visit Lor Mee 178 and Jian Bo Shui Kueh while I was there a couple of weeks back.

There were many mixed reviews on Jian Bo Shui Kueh and most of them noticed that the standard and quality were not the same as previous. They could be right as the original owner has sold the stall to the current owner (accordingly to what I found on the web).

IMG_4654
Chwee Kueh 4/5

The freshly made Chwee Kueh ($1.20/4pc, $1.80/6pc, $2.40/8pc) was soft and firm. The chye poh (turnip filling) was on the darker side which was rather fragrant compared to other stalls. However it was kind of flat without the crunchy texture. The chilli although was mild but I personally felt that it blended very well with the chye poh. Overall I felt that the chwee kueh standard is still way above most of the competitors out there.
