Chin Mee Chin Confectionery @ East Coast Road

IMG_3312

Located along East Coast Road at the corner of East Coast Road and Chapel Road, is this nostalgia old school confectionery with mosaic floor tiles and marbled top tables. The place has limited seating and it is rather hot and stuffy. This is my 2nd visit on a Sunday morning and the place is always packed with breakfast crowd.

For the first timer, ordering can be quite confusing. The couple of waiting staffs are so busy that it is rather hard to catch their attention. The tip is to just look for a sitting area, sit down and self service the pastries at the display cabinets. When you manage to catch the attention of the waiting staff, order your drinks and kaya buns. Upon your drinks and kaya buns are served, tell the waiting staff what pastries you have taken and he/she will write it down in a piece of white paper for you to pay at the cashier when you are done with your meal.

Western loves their cereal for breakfast and we Singaporean loves our Half Boiled Egg. With a dash of dark soy sauce and pepper, it is our tonic to start the day.

Kaya Bun 4.2/5

I finally understand why all the ravings of Chin Mee Chin Kaya Bun after sinking my teeth into the Kaya Bun.  The toasted bun with its crisp outer and fluffy inside, spreads with the fragant kaya was like marriage in heaven.

Custard Egg Tart and Puff 4/5

If the kaya buns are not enough for you, help yourself to the differnt pastries that are made freshly from the oven everyday. Some of the popular pastries are the Custard Egg Tart and Custard Puff. Grab them while they are piping hot from the oven. They do run out quite fast.

Poached Lobster with Mango Salsa 4.2/5

Amuse Bouche was Poached Lobster with Mango Salsa. The fruity salsa was a lovely complement for the beautifully poached lobster. It really got me excited for the next dish. The salsa was worth mentioning, there were flavours from the nutty pistachio, sweet mango and fragrant sesame.

Crab & Seruga Caviar 4.5/5

Appertiser was Crab & Seruga Caviar. The beautiful garden was bursting with flavours from the crabmeat, vin de blanc jelly, champagne grape, frisee salad and citrus dressing.

Cod Fillet 4.2/5

For the main there were 3 selections and to introduce us to The Good Life iPhone app we have to order from the app by redeeming our main selection.

Sherie aka maameemoomoo who is seated on my left ordered the Cod Fillet which was specially created for the night. The cod fillet was served with grilled artichoke, truffle, parsnip puree, tomato salsa and lemon foam. The cod fish wa perfectly cooked, it was fresh and moist.

Wagyu Rib Eye 4.2/5

My partner had the Wagyu Rib Eye served with horseradish crusted bone marrow, sauteed broccolini, grill portobello mushroom and chive baby potatoes. The huge piece of intense marbling beef cooked to a nice medium pink was tender, flavourful and juicy with a nice smokey aroma.

Slow Roasted Suckling Pig with Iberico Jamon and Fig stuffing 4.2/5

For myself, I had the slow roasted Suckling Pig with Iberico Jamon and Fig stuffing. It was served with Kurobuta Pork Belly, Fried Applies, Apple and Pear Jelly and crackles. The final presentation of the dish surprised me as it was totally different from what I have imagined. Lovely sweet and fruity sauce for the main. However the Kurobuta Pork Belly was a bit too fat for my liking.

White Chocolate Bomb with Lemon Verbena Pannacotta 4/5

Ending the dinner on a sweet note was a lovely white cholocate dessert that was served with pineapple sauce. For those with a sweet tooth,  it was really an enjoyment for the palate.
