Jit It Thai San Popiah (日益太山薄饼) @ Clementi Avenue 3

The question has been asked, where is the best Popiah in Singapore? I am sure many has their own favourite but I have been hearing about the queue at this small stall tucked again in a corner of a coffeeshop at Clementi Avenue 3 where the popular Brothers Rojak is located. The stall known as Jit It Thai San Popiah (日益太山薄饼) is run by 2 elderly while the auntie is in charge of making the popiah.

When I reached the stall, there was already a queue. I patiently waited for a good 25 minutes for my popiah although there was just like 4-5 people in front of me. To be frank, it can be faster but I think age has caught up with the owners and their pace has slowed down.

When I was queuing for my turn, I post on facebook that I am checking out this popiah stall and I was warned to keep my order simple. I also received a text from my partner that the auntie is quite fierce. True enough, a lady in front of me was scolded by the stall auntie for her confusing order. Upon my turn, I kept it simple and ordered 2 Popiah roll ($1.50 each), one with chilli and the other without. When she finished preparing the popiah. you place the money on the plastic tray for her to collect.

Popiah 4/5

I feel that the popiah at Jit It Thai San Popiah stands out in 3 areas. First is the thin and soft popiah skin that is stuffed with turnips, beansprouts, hard boiled eggs and peanuts. Second, the popiah comes with garlic which further enhanced the flavour. Lastly, the special chilli that will send the tasting buds sambal dancing.
