The French Fold @ Palais Renaissance - New Outlet At Orchard Road For Their Popular French Crepes & Galettes

When it first opened at Telok Ayer, The French Fold was so hard to get a seat for their French crepes and galettes. Now the customers can have another option at their newest outlet located at Palais Renaissance, Orchard Road.

Besides the French crepes and galettes, customers can chill over a few glasses of cocktails. 

No.15 Sausage Galette 4.8/5

First is the No.15 Sausage Galette ($20). It is a big breakfast folded into the buckwheat pancake with sausage, pork pancetta, sunny egg side up, red bean and tomato. It is a hearty breakfast crepe that can be enjoyed any time of the day.

No.11 Yellow Curry Galette 4/5

Next is the No.11 Yellow Curry Galette ($22). Yellow curry in French pancake may sound like a weird combination, but it works for me. The subtle curry paired with fresh sauteed shrimps, onion and leeks can be enjoyed by both the young and old. However, I prefer the curry to carry more punches as the flavour was too mild for me.

No.30 White Chocolate Crepe 4.8/5

I do not have a sweet tooth, but I would highly recommend ending your meal on a sweet note with the chocolate heaven crepe, No.30 White Chocolate Crepe ($16). The rich and intense chocolatey flavour complements the sweet crepe excellently. It is addictively good. You will want to go back for more.

It is not just about galettes and crepes at French Fold. They have an extensive menu that includes sides, burgers, and salads. The restaurant can get quite crowded, especially on weekends. 618 Sim Carrot Cake @ Yishun Ring Road - The Stall Sells White Carrot Only With Generous Chye Poh

What is the good food in Yishun? Most of us will probably mention 928 Yishun Laksa or 925 Yishun Hainanese Chicken Rice. Another popular hawker stall in Yishun is 618 Sim Carrot Cake. Coincidentally, it has numeric number on its stall name too. By the way, the stall only fries white carrot cake. It does not sell the black version.

The first thing I notice is the heap of sweet chye poh (preserved radish) on the plate of White Carrot Cake ($3.50/ $4.50). It is not unusual to add chye poh to fried carrot cake, but it is usually fried with the steamed radish cake.

I am not going to complain about the generous serving of chye poh as it accentuated the flavour profile and gave it a delightful texture bite, contrasting the softness of the radish fried cake.

If you realize the fried carrot cake is cut into small cubes and held together by a generous amount of eggs, almost like an omelette. One side is fried to crispy, while the other allows the enjoyment of the egg's fragrant and carrot cake's softness. It is like having two ways of enjoying the plate of fried cake.

681 Sim Carrot Cake indeed serves an excellent plate of white carrot cake. However, my friend told me to have the carrot cake with prawn option as it tastes even better with the crustacean's flavour infused into the fried carrot cake. I will do so on my next visit.
