Poulet Bijou @ Jewel Changi Airport - New Outlet Offering Savoury Galettes, Sweet Decadence Crepes And French Toast

PouletBijouJewel-10

Poulet Bijou at Jewel Changi Airport is Poulet's latest and eighth outlet in Singapore. It also marks Poulet's 10th anniversary of serving its favourite French Roast Chicken. The new restaurant serves an extensive all-day dining menu comprising its signature French Roast Chicken, contemporary French cuisine, and desserts under one roof.

PouletBijou3
Truffle Fries 3.5/5

We had the Truffle Fries ($10.90) for our starter. It comes with chopped parsley and parmesan snow, dressed in black truffle oil. An addictive munch while waiting for the mains.

PouletBijou4
Mixed Mushroom Sautee Galette 4/5

Besides Poulet's signature items, Poulet Bijou has offered an all-new French dessert menu that focuses on savoury galettes, sweet decadence crepes and french toast. We tried a couple of their savoury galettes, starting with the Mixed Mushroom Sautee Galette ($13.90). Folded inside the crepe is wild mushroom, sunny side-up egg in truffle dressing.

PouletBijou7
Mixed Seafood Galette 3.8/5

The other galette we tried is the Mixed Seafood Galette ($16.90) which comes with a local twist. It is laksa in a crepe instead in a bowl. There are prawns, squid, fish cake, crushed nut and sunny side-up egg with laksa dressing.

PouletBijou12
Vanilla French Toast 4/5

Wrapping up our meal, we had the Vanilla French Toast ($15.90) laden with generous toppings of juicy mixed strawberries and yoghurt ice cream.

Yun Nans (云海肴) @ Jewel Changi Airport - Shining Spotlight On Unique Ingredients And Yunnan-style Dishes

YunNansCNY2022-13

Usher in the Year of the Tiger at Yun Nans (云海肴). The restaurant's Chinese New Year 2022 menus will feature new mainstays and curated favourites. There are six CNY set menus catering for 4 to 8 pax, with prices ranging from $318++ to $788++. Available for dine-in, takeaway and delivery, each menu consists of 7 to 9 dishes.

YunNansCNY2022-5
Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng 3.5/5

Toss up to a prosperous and auspicious year with the Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng ($68.80++/ $88.80), which comes with whole abalone. Diners also have the option of additional abalones at $29.90 for six pieces.

YunNansCNY2022-9
Black Garlic Kampong Chicken Soup 4.2/5

New this year is the Black Garlic Kampong Chicken Soup. It uses Yunnan's fermented solo clove black garlic in the soup, giving it a natural sweetness. The superbly nutritious soup is well balanced, giving it a light and clear taste, coupled with the subtle fragrance of the black garlic.

YunNansCNY2022-15
Yun Nans Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot 4.5/5

Making a return this year is the Yun Nans Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot ($298++/ $458++), brimming with roast pork belly, wild golden fungus from Yunnan, sea cucumber, abalone, scallops, prawns, mushrooms, fish maw, cordyceps flowers, yam and Chinese cabbage.

YunNansCNY2022-21
Steamed Jade Perch in Spicy Garlic Lime 4.2/5

Locally sourced is the Steamed Jade Perch in Spicy Garlic Lime. It boasts a silky and delicate texture, boasting spicy and sour flavours from Yunnan's preserved vegetables, preserved plums, limes and chillies. Diners can also have it prepared in Hong Kong style, steamed in superior soya sauce.

YunNansCNY2022-23
"Bi Feng Tang" Style Pork Ribs

The humongous "Bi Feng Tang" Style Pork Ribs coated in a bed of garlic and red chillies are incredibly aromatic and tender. There is no point in observing any dining etiquette. Instead, I would recommend picking up the pork rib with your hands and tearing it apart to appreciate the beautiful piece of meat.

YunNansCNY2022-28
Steamed Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf

Unlike most restaurants, Yun Nans uses specially sourced Hakka preserved vegetables from Dabu County, produced in limited quantities and supplied to a selected list of independent merchants. It imparts a unique flavour and fragrance to the Steamed Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf, a delicious substitute for the usual Chinese sausage.

YunNansCNY2022-31
Double Boiled Peach Gum with Snow Pear

We end our meal on a sweet note with the Double Boiled Peach Gum with Snow Pear. Served warm, it is light and refreshing with crunchy white fungus.

In addition to the set menu, Yun Nan is also bringing back its Special Take-home Festive Set for 4 to 6 pax ($308++ for members, $338++ for public) for patrons to enjoy a hassle-free feast in the comfort of their own home.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

Tai Er Chinese Sauerkraut Fish @ Jewel Changi Airport - Popular Chinese Restaurant In China With Nearly 300 Stores Opens In Singapore

TaiEr10

Popular Tai Er Chinese Sauerkraut Fish, with nearly 300 stores in China, has opened its first outlet in Singapore at Changi Jewel Singapore. The restaurant is known for its Chinese Sauerkraut Fish seeing daily queues at the stores to savour the fish fillets in a spicy and sour broth.

TaiEr3
Chinese Sauerkraut Fish 4.5/5

The Chinese Sauerkraut Fish ($48/$68/$88) comes in a huge plate with the tender fish slices swimming in a pool of soup, brimming with red chillis, Sichuan peppercorn and pickled cabbage. If I am not wrong, they use tilapia fish for the dish. The combination of mala, spicy and sour flavours is super shiok. I can understand why it is so popular in China now.

TaiEr12
Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chilli Oil 4.8/5

Another crowd favourite is the Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chilli Oil ($26). The beef slices are incredibly tender. The star has to be the aromatic hot and spicy broth accentuating the full enjoyment. I feel the flavours are well balanced for Singapore's palate, neither too spicy nor mala. The dish is seriously one of the best interpretations of the classic Sichuan dish I have eaten for a long while.

TaiEr19
Abalone and Shrimp in Spicy Sauce 4/5

The Abalone and Shrimp in Spicy Sauce ($12) is a delightful starter to whet up your appetite. However, I probably save my calories for the other star dishes on the menu, such as the Chinese Sauerkraut Fish and Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chilli.

TaiEr30
Fried Crispy Prawn Topped with Mustard 4/5

Not everything on the menu is spicy. There are also non-spicy dishes such as the Fried Crispy Prawn Topped with Mustard ($13). Coated in a light batter, it gives the crunchy prawn a crispy exterior coat paired with a sweet mustard sauce.

TaiEr37
Seaweed Roll with Salted Egg Yolk 2.5/5

Exclusively for the Singapore outlet is the Seaweed Roll with Salted Egg Yolk ($6). I find it disappointing for an exclusive dish. It felt half-hearted by putting together a few pieces of seaweed cracker and drizzled it with salted egg yolk sauce.

TaiEr20
Egg Coated Glutinous Rice Rolls with Brown Sugar 4.8/5

Another beautiful dish we enjoyed is the Egg Coated Glutinous Rice with Brown Sugar ($10). The texture is like mochi, soft and chewy paired with sweet brown sugar dip. It is so good.

TaiEr27
Ice Jelly with Coconut Milk 4/5

TaiEr35
Sichuan Pepper Milk Tea and Lemon Tea With Passionfruit Juice

If you find the food is too hot to handle, don't worry. You can cool off with some cold beverages and desserts such as the Ice Jelly with Coconut Milk ($3), Sichuan Pepper Milk Tea ($5) and Lemon Tea With Passionfruit Juice ($5).

TaiErRestaurant-8

I have enjoyed the food at Tai Er Chinese Sauerkraut. I will be back again to check out the rest of the menu. Please note that they do not accept walk-in. You have to make reservation via their facebook page or WeChat. For the first-timer, the must-try items are Chinese Sauerkraut Fish, Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chilli Oil and Egg Coated Glutinous Rice Rolls with Brown Sugar.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

BurgerNLobster8

Opening its doors at Jewel Changi Airport over a year ago, Burger & Lobster is nestled on the topmost floor of Jewel, Canopy Park. Diners are treated to the spectacular views of the HSBC Rain Vortex and lush Shiseido Forest Valley while indulging in luxurious Atlantic lobsters, outlet's exclusive sambal glazed lobster, and prime beef burgers.

BurgerNLobster14
B&L Sling 4/5, PG-13 3.8/5

For drinks, we had the refreshing B&L Sling ($16) one of their signature cocktails, as well as the PG-13 mocktail ($9), a non-alcoholic option but no less satisfying with grapefruit, lime, grenadine and tonic.

BurgerNLobster4
Pan-Fried King Prawns 4/5

To start off the meal, we had their Pan-Fried King Prawns (3pcs/$13). Served in a smoked paprika and garlic butter sauce, the prawns were tender and juicy.

BurgerNLobster9
Original Lobster Roll 4.5/5

We had their signature Original Lobster Roll ($34) paired with crispy fries and salad, which comes with generous chunks of fresh lobster meat dressed in Japanese mayo and lemon, sandwiched in between a soft and buttery toasted brioche roll. Drizzle the accompanying lemon and garlic butter sauce to amp up the fresh lobster flavours.

BurgerNLobster13
Lobster Laksa 4.2/5

Locally inspired dish, the Lobster Laksa ($67 for whole lobster) features wild-caught fresh lobsters cooked in an aromatic coconut sauce. The broth was fragrant, with a mild spicy kick, while the lobster meat was fresh and tender. Served with rice noodles bean sprouts and tofu.

BurgerNLobster3
The Venison Burger 4/5

The Venison Burger ($25) is the limited-edition festive burger introduced for this year's coming Christmas. It comes with a thick and succulent venison mushroom patty served on sesame brioche bun with brie, balsamic mayo, a sweet cranberry balsamic compote and crispy bacon for a mix of textures and flavours that complement one another well.

BurgerNLobster11
Bread Pudding 3.5/5

To round off the meal, we also had their festive dessert, Bread Pudding which features soft and fluffy bread drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Tonito @ Jewel Changi Airport - Serving Lesser Known Traditional Latin American Cuisine

Tonito1

Having dined at Tono Cevicheria on a few occasions, I have grown to enjoy the vibrant flavours of Peruvian cuisine. I was excited when it opens a brother restaurant, Tonito at Jewel Changi Airport, bringing the lesser known Latino dishes to Singaporean as well as tourists travelling in and out of Singapore.

Tonito14
Mexican Ceviche 4/5

For appetisers, we started with the Mexican Ceviche ($28) and Ceviche Tonito ($28). The Mexican Ceviche consists of octopus, Japanese baby scallops, crabmeat, pico de gallo, limes, and guacamole. It is best eaten together with the crispy corn tortilla for an explosion of flavours and play of textures.

Tonito7
Ceviche Tonito 4/5

Tasted as good is the Ceviche Tonito ($28) that comprises of Japanese baby scallops, octopus, crabmeat and fried calamari in Smoked Aji Amarillo Tiger's Milk. Compare to the Mexican Ceviche, and I prefer this more as the flavours are sharper with more depth.

Tonito9
Pork Tacos 4/5

Tonito does not focus only on Peruvian food. It also offers a selection of Latin American cuisine  such as the Mexican tacos and quesadillas. For tacos, there are options for fish, beef, chicken and pork. I had the Pork Tacos ($16) which comes with crispy pork belly, sausage, caramelised onion, chipotle mayo aioli with soft corn tortilla.

Tonito11
Beef Quesadillas 4.2/5

The Beef Quesadillas ($16) with crispy thin flour tortilla is another excellent dish on the menu. Marinated beef, coriander aioli and avocado puree are sandwiched in between the crispy shell, bound together by the melted cheddar cheese for a cheesy enjoyment. There are also options for pork and chicken if you don't eat beef. For vegetarian, the corn replaces the protein.

Tonito5
Fish Moqueca 4.2/5

A dish closer to our local palate is the traditional Brazilian Fish Moqueca ($26). The fish stew is prepared with rich coconut milk in a piquant gravy of tomatoes and peppers which has a mild spicy kick. It goes very well with the fragrant garlic rice.

Tonito2
Latino Seafood Rice 4.5/5

My favourite dish for the night goes to the Latino Seafood Rice. The crabmeat rice cooked in white wine, dried chilli sauce and parmesan cheese is delicious and flavourful. Crispy fish, calamari and prawns accompanied the dish. It is a simple yet hearty dish. I probably can eat this every day and not get tired of it.

Tonito16
Tres Leches 4.5/5

Not being a dessert person, I find myself enjoying the Tres Leches ($8) paired with pineapple compote and crispy coconut flakes. The sponge cake soaked in coconut milk is moist and sweet.

Unlike Tono Cevicheria, Tonito offers a more family-friendly, convivial dining atmosphere with hearty and flavourful traditional Latin American cuisine that is lesser known to Singaporean.

Red Lips @ Jewel Changi Airport - Largest New-age Mala Tang Chain from Shanghai Arrived In Singapore

RedLips14

Red Lips, the largest new-age mala tang chain from Shanghai, has opened its first-ever overseas outlet at Jewel Changi Airport. With over 40 outlets in China within five years of its establishment, diners can customise their hotpot-in-a-bowl with 45 food items, authentic hotpot base and secret spices.

RedLips4

RedLips13

The 45 items include seafood, meat and vegetables, noodles and other speciality offerings. These ingredients are handpicked and selected for their freshness, quality and taste. It is unlike most mala fragrant pot stalls that serve frozen ingredients.

RedLips2

Customers will be handed an ordering sheet to tick the ingredients they want, give it to the cashier, pay, and the staff will pick the ordered ingredients. Instead of cooking the raw ingredients in hot boiling water which is bland, they are boiled in a flavoursome stock that has been boiled for hours.

RedLips8

What holds everything together is the secret spicy sauce that comprises of peppercorns, and a blend of over 20 ingredients and spices. It has a bold, full-bodied flavour with depth, leaving a pleasing and lingering aftertaste. I would recommend mixing it up with the creamy sesame sauce which kicks up the flavours by several notches. The sauces really go well with the ingredients and its very convenient for takeaway.

RedLips26

The winner for Red Lips is their fresh ingredients and delicious sauces that lifted the whole enjoyment. Prices starting from $0.90 is quite reasonable; however, the portion needs to be more generous. I have my colleague complaining that $0.90 only gets her 2 strands of spinach. The food is excellent, and I really hope the portion can be more generous to win more loyal fans.

Tonkatsu Ma Maison @ Jewel Changi Airport - The Gold Standard For Tonkatsu

TonkatsuMaMaison12

The opening of Jewel Changi Airport welcomes a number of new restaurants at the airport. One of these new restaurants is Tonkatsu Ma Maison, located on level two of Jewel Changi Airport. Known for its breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet, this is my go-to place whenever I am craving for some tonkatsu. On top of that, I can eat to my fill with the free flow serving of cabbage, rice and tonjiru

TonkatsuMaMaison10
Rosu Katsu Set 4.2/5

My usual order is the classic Rosu Katsu Set ($20.80++ for 120g / $22.80++ for 160g). The deep-fried pork loin set consists of tender pork cutlet with cabbage, rice, tonjiru and pickles. Depends on your appetite, the rice comes in three sizes; small (150g), medium (200g) and large (300g). You also have the option of plain steamed rice or the healthier multigrain rice. Besides the rosu katsu, there is also the hire-katsu, the leaner pork fillet. I prefer the rosu for its fattier and juicier cut.

TonkatsuMaMaison15
Mameton Set 4.2/5

If you find that everything in the menu looks good and can't decide what to order? I would recommend the Mameton Set ($25.80++). It consists of deep-fried pork loin, pork fillet and prawn. You can try each of everything. The set comes with cabbage, rice, tonjiru and pickles.

TonkatsuMaMaison5
Cheese Mille-feuille Katsu Set 4.5/5

There is always a reason to re-visit with its seasonal items. Currently, the seasonal item is the Mille-feuille Katsu Fair. There are 3 items - Mille-feuille Katsu Set ($25.80++), Umeshiso Mille-feuille Katsu Set ($26.80++) and Cheese Mille-feuille Katsu Set ($26.80++).

TonkatsuMaMaison2

I decided to try the Cheese Mille-feuille Katsu Set, which comes with layers of sliced pork cutlet with a cheesy core, encased in crispy breadcrumb batter. This is my new love now. The texture from the layered pork slices is even more tender than the rosu, complemented by the molten cheese. I really hope they can keep this permanently on the menu.

IMG_2029

Tonkatsu Ma Maison has never disappointed me, and it has always maintained its quality and standard. The tonkatsu is thickly cut around 2-3cm with crispy breadcrumb batter that is delightful but not greasy. It definitely sets the "gold' standard for a good tonkatsu!
