Teck Kee Chicken Rice @ The Rail Mall

With the upcoming opening of the new downtown line 2, there is finally some daylights to the restaurants and shops at the rail mall with the opening of the Hillview MRT station. After years of suffering from the construction on the new line, the roads and traffics are cleared to receive more people using the new line to explore the Northwest part of the island.

Half Chicken 3.5/5

Located at the Rail Mall, there is a pretty decent chicken rice restaurant named Teck Kee Chicken Rice. They also have another outlet at Leisure Park Kallang. We ordered Half a Steam Chicken ($18) which was quite good. The chicken was chopped to chunky pieces, tender and juicy. The chicken is normal broiler hence not much sweetness in the meat but the soy sesame sauce that is dressed over it lifted the flavour.

Steamed Rice 3/5

The Steam Rice ($1) unfortunately felt short to my expectation. The rice was not fragrant enough and it was on the dry side.

Salted Fish Bean Sprout 3.8/5

Besides the chicken rice, the restaurant offers other cooked dishes too. To accompany our chicken rice meal, we also ordered a plate of Salted Fish Bean Sprout ($7). The bean sprout was crunchy and packed with the beautiful salted fish flavour. However the price tag is on the high side.

Overall Teck Kee Chicken Rice is decent but not the best in town. The steamed chicken is still consider quite tender and succulent. With the variety of other cooked dishes, it can be a place for a satisfying meal if one is not too choosy.
