Xita Lao Tai Tai (西塔老太太) @ Bugis+ - China's Number 1 BBQ Chain with unique Korean-influenced Clay Stove Barbecue Debuts First Southeast Asia Outpost

XitaLaoTaiTai1

XitaLaoTaiTaiIG-5

Fresh from the accolades of being crowned China’s Number 1 BBQ chain by the 2025 China Restaurant Industry Awards, Xita Lao Tai Tai (西塔老太太) makes its much-anticipated entry into Southeast Asia, right in the heart of Bugis+. With over 600 outlets across China and a reputation for snaking queues in cities like Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, this cult-favourite Korean-style charcoal BBQ brand finally brings its fiery charm to Singapore.

What sets Xita Lao Tai Tai apart is its traditional clay stove charcoal grill, a nod to its origins in the Xita district. The clay stove retains higher heat than conventional grills and imparts a deep, smoky aroma to the meats, an essence born out of heritage and innovation.

XitaLaoTaiTai7

At Xita Lao Tai Tai, beef is unquestionably the star of the show. With an astonishing variety of over 20 cuts to choose from, the menu is a carnivore's dream. Each cut is meticulously curated. Some are left in their natural form to let the pure beefy flavours shine, while others are infused with house-made marinades crafted from a repertoire of 28 secret blends for an added punch of flavour.

XitaLaoTaiTai13

XitaLaoTaiTai20

We began with the Xita Speciality Sliced Beef Chuck ($30.90 for 130g), a tender and juicy cut with just the right amount of fat to absorb the smoky kiss of the charcoal grill. The Flagship Feather Blade Steak ($36.90) offered a meatier bite, with rich marbling that turned buttery on the tongue once seared. Equally indulgent was the Marbled Beef Short Rib ($44.90 for 120g), where the luscious fat rendered beautifully over the clay stove, enhancing the cut's natural umami. Meanwhile, the Xita Fatty Beef Short Plate ($27.90 for 130g) was thinly sliced and ideal for quick grilling, delivering bold beefy notes with every bite.

XitaLaoTaiTai11

Among the most memorable was the Pineapple Glazed Beef Rib Finger ($34.90 for 150g), marinated to tender perfection with pineapple juice that gave the meat a subtle sweetness and balanced acidity. The Special Marinated Beef Rib Finger ($32.90 for 140g) was another standout, deeply soaked in the founder's signature Korean-style marinade, which is sweet, savoury, and utterly addictive.

Whether you're a fan of natural beef flavours or crave bold, marinated cuts, Xita's beef selection offers something to satisfy every palate. It is elevated by the rich, smoky magic of the traditional clay stove grill.

XitaLaoTaiTai14

XitaLaoTaiTai12

Non-beef eaters are not left out. Three pork options are available: Thick Cut Pork Belly ($28.90), Special Marinated Pork Collar ($35.90), and Special Marinated Pork Fillet ($30.90), each offering a luscious bite and satisfying grill char. The Secret Marinated Chicken Chop adds even more variety, ensuring something for everyone.

Spicy Bulgogi Mid Joint Chicken Wings

A variety of cooked dishes and sides, including free-flow banchan (小菜) like kimchi, tofu skin, pumpkin porridge, and more, complement the grilled meats.

XitaLaoTaiTai3
Sweet and Spicy Chicken Feet

XitaLaoTaiTai2
Grandma Seafood Pancake

We particularly enjoyed the Spicy Bulgogi Mid Joint Chicken Wings ($14.90 for 5 pcs), which were succulent with a smoky, sweet heat, and the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Feet ($12.90 for 4 pcs), which offered a satisfying chew and kick. The Grandma Seafood Pancake ($16.90) was crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and generously studded with seafood morsels.

XitaLaoTaiTai4
Cold Buckwheat Noodles

The Cold Buckwheat Noodles ($16.90) are a must-try for something more filling. Served in an icy, tangy broth, the chewy noodles refreshed our palate and contrasted with the bold grilled meats.

XitaLaoTaiTai16
Strawberry Ice Burst

To cool things off, we ended the meal with the Strawberry Ice Burst ($9.90). It was a refreshing mound of fruity shaved ice, crowned with fresh strawberries. It was light, revitalising, and perfect for combating the grill's heat and Singapore's weather.

Xita Lao Tai Tai brings an immersive and hearty barbecue experience to the Singapore food scene. Its signature clay stove, high-quality meats, extensive marinades, and vibrant sides make it a smoky, flavour-packed adventure worth braving the queue for.

The Orchard Cafe @ The Orchard Hotel Singapore - Lavish Buffet Featuring Finest Cut of Meats and BBQ Seafood

IMG_1834

The Orchard Cafe at The Orchard Hotel Singapore has a brand new lineup with Flaming Feast: Prime "Meats" Seafood BBQ Buffet. Running from 1 March to 4 May 2025, the feast also showcases American flavours, offering a range of BBQ meats with hearty US flavours, comforting Western fare, and indulgent desserts.

Slow Roasted US Grain Fed Prime Rib

Over at the Prime Meats & Signature Carving station, you will find beastly-looking roasts and BBQ meats — Slow-Roasted US Grain-Fed Prime Rib, BBQ-smoked hickory US Beef Brisket, and Slow-Roasted US Kurobuta Pork Shoulder. While the meats were truly the stars of the offerings, given their succulency and bold flavours, the sides were delectable as well. The Yorkshire puddings were excellent with the US prime rib, and the buttery mashed potatoes for the pork shoulder were sinfully delicious.

Charcoal Grilled Meats

New Orleans BBQ Prawn

Alongside the BBQ meats, the Charcoal Grill Selections features tantalising items such as Flank Steak. Short Plate, Lamp Chops and Beef Sirloin. The New Orleans BBQ Prawn offered a fresh take on their usual grilled prawns.

IMG_1837
Pumpkin Croquette, Maryland Crab Cakes, Fries, Buttermilk Chicken

Another station offered the comfort of Fried Basket. There were Fish & Chips, succulent Buttermilk Chicken, and my favorites were the Pumpkin Croquette and Maryland Crab Cakes.

IMG_1828
Seafood on Ice

The Seafood on Ice station was also delightful, with Snow Crab Legs among other usual favourites such as Red Prawns and Black Mussels. Boosting the seafood offering, there is also a Sashimi and Sushi counter offering Norwegian Salmon sashimi, Yellow Fin Tuna and Hokkaido Tako.

Banana Foster with Caramel Ice Cream

Snicker Chocolate Bar

Blueberry Cheesecake

Another highlight was the dessert lineup. Not only are there regular crowd-pleasing and comforting sweets such as Bread & Butter Pudding, Blueberry Cheesecake, and Key Lime Pie, but also unique creations such as the Snicker Chocolate Bar, which offers a whole new experience in enjoying the familiar flavours of a Snickers. The live station whipped up delicious Banana Foster with Caramel Ice Cream made of caramelised bananas served with a scoop of velvety vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

RUBATO Restaurant @ Greenwood Avenue - A Taste Of Italy In The Neighbourhood Since 2009

IMG_4795

Nestled in the quaint Greenwood Avenue neighbourhood is RUBATO, an Italian restaurant that has found its place since 2009. It prides itself on offering its selection of Italian food in small batches, only roasting and baking upon order. The selection is extensive, from All Day Breakfast to classic Italian starters and mains, various grilled meats, and homemade desserts.

IMG_1982

Their Greenwood outlet has both indoor and outdoor seating, exuding a more casual, family-friendly vibe. Other establishments under them are RUBATO STEAKHOUSE @ Teck Lim Road, FESTIVO @ Mr Gallop and the soon-to-open RUBATO ITALIAN & ASIAN @ SAF Yacht Club.

IMG_4792
Michelin Quality Burrata 4.2/5

For our first starter, we had the Michelin Quality Burrata ($62), which had a huge ball of fresh burrata sitting in the middle of the plate on rocket leaves. It was dressed in olive oil and paired with aged parma ham, fresh and semi-sundried tomatoes.

IMG_4793

There were only 2 of us, but we polished this off. The lightly savoury burrata was incredibly creamy and perfectly matched the sweet semi-sundried tomatoes. I A dish that is good for sharing. I recommend getting some warm toasted bread to go with this!

IMG_4806
A Gift from the Angels 4.5/5

A Gift from the Angels (from $68) was a starter we noticed every table ordered. It features chilled angel hair pasta tossed in premium white truffle oil, topped with Hokkaido scallop sashimi, kombu, and 5g of Hokkaido Bafun Uni hidden under a generous shave of truffles.

IMG_4794

We could see the reason for its popularity, as the pasta was al dente with a lingering truffle fragrance that didn't overpower. You can opt to add another 80g portion of uni for $80. The dish is on the pricier end, but the portion was quite substantial for group sharing.

IMG_4796
RUBATO Mixed Grilled Platter 3.8/5

We had the RUBATO Mixed Grilled Platter ($288) served to sizzling hot for mains. Alongside shaved truffles and a medley of colourful vegetables, there was a grilled rack of lamb, chicken and pork chop. The vegetables were fresh and sweet. Our favourite was the lamb which was done tender and without any gameness. The chicken and pork chop, however, were a little too tough for our liking.

IMG_4798
Cherry Flambé 3.8/5

Our warm and friendly servers enthusiastically introduced us to one of their new boozy desserts, the Cherry Flambé. It was quite an experience watching our servers prepare this right next to our table, lighting the cherries on fire with a pour of brandy into the pan before plating it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While we enjoyed the mix of sweet and alcoholic notes here, I wish more texture had been added, and a better quality vanilla ice cream was used.

IMG_4797

Apart from the a la carte menu, there are a few special events to look out for at RUBATO @ Greenwood. Ladies Night runs every Wednesday from 5pm to 10.30pm, and offers diners 1-for-1 house pour wines and prosecco.

The exciting Everyday Brunch Buffet costs $68 (up to $108) per pax from 11am to 4pm daily. The menu looks exciting with fresh Canadian oysters, a range of hand-stretched pizzas and pasta, charcoal-grilled Iberico pork and a rack of lamb, and many more. You can even opt for free-flow champagne for 1.5 hours at an additional $78.

Yak Kin Yakiniku located at Jalan Riang is a Thai-Japanese yakiniku restaurant. The Japanese-style yakiniku offers quality meats and seafood married with Thai spices, marinated meats and Thai dipping sauces.

Yat Kin51
Meat Platter 4.2/5

Yat Kin26
Moo Ping 4.2/5

We kickstart our yakiniku with a meat platter that consists of Rosu (Wagyu A5 Yakiniku), Karubi (Short-Rib Bone-In), Thai Style Pork Neck, Thick Bacon Steak and Moo Ping. I need help pinpointing my favourites as they are all quality meat with their own merits. How fitting it is to have Moo Ping on the menu for the Thai side of things, a staple in Thai cuisine.

Yat Kin22
Pork Tomahawk 4.5/5

A highlight is the Pork Tomahawk. The beautiful piece of pork after grilling has a delightful crunch.

Yat Kin43

Yat Kin47
Scallop with Miso Butter, Surume Ika 4.2/5

Besides the meats, there is a fresh selection of seafood, such as the plump Scallop with Miso Butter, a whole Surume Ika (Japanese flying squid), and even Fresh Oyster.

Yat Kin50
Vegetable & Mushroom Platter 4/5

Complete the grilling experience with a vegetable and mushroom platter such as Enoki Mushroom with Soy Butter in Foil, King Oyster Mushroom, Butter Corn Cup and Coral Lettuce.

Yat Kin7
Kawaebi Karaage 4/5

Yat Kin12
Kaki Fry 4/5

Fitting for a few glasses of beer, highballs, or sake is an array of delightful starters such as the Kawaebi Karaage and Kaki Fry. These deep-fried snacks are ideal bar bites. The kawaebi karaage is sweet and plump, while the deep-fried oysters are bursting with briny juiciness.

Yat Kin5
Yak Kin! Tako Wasabi 4/5

Yat Kin6
Yak Kin! Potato Salad 4.2/5

The Yak Kin! Tako Wasabi is an appetising side dish in which the raw octopus is flavoured with Japanese horseradish. If you can get over the octopus's slimy texture, this is very addictive. As for the Yak Kin! Potato Salad, the smooth and creamy texture is further accentuated in flavour with bonito flakes topping.

Yat Kin15
Ice Plant with Goma Dressing 4.2/5

Yat Kin20
Yam Mamuang 4/5

The Ice Plant with Goma Dressing and Yam Mamuang showcases the best of both worlds. From Japan, we have the crunchy ice plant dressed in a delicious goma sauce, while we have the piquant yam mamuang that comes with a spicy kick.
